 PM CARES donations from sportsmen From the sporting arena, Indian cricketer Suresh Raina is donating ₹52 lakh but only ₹31 lakh is going towards the PM-CARES fund. Branches of government doing their part National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials are putting up one day's salary towards PM CARES. Coal India Limited (CIL) has pledged ₹220 crore and NLC India has promised ₹25 crore. All of Indian Railway's employees have pledged one day's salary to the newly-formed Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) Fund, according to union minister Piyush Goyal. Collectively, the contribution will amount to ₹151 crore from Indian Railways Ministry. New Delhi, A petition has been filed in the <keyword id="19895345" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="supreme-court" source="keywords">Supreme Court</keyword> seeking contempt action against the <keyword id="19934368" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-bank-of-india" source="keywords">State Bank of India</keyword> (SBI) alleging it "wilfully and deliberately" disobeyed the apex court's direction to submit details of contributions made to political parties through electoral bonds to the Election Commission by March 6. The plea, filed by two NGOs, claimed SBI's application seeking extension of time till June 30 to disclose the details of electoral bonds encashed by political parties has been deliberately filed at the last moment to ensure that details of donor and the amount of donations are not disclosed to the public before the upcoming <keyword id="19895394" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha" source="keywords">Lok Sabha</keyword> elections. A bench headed by Chief Justice <keyword id="19936357" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="d-y-chandrachud" source="keywords">D Y Chandrachud</keyword> on Thursday took note of the submissions by advocate <keyword id="20027334" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="prashant-bhushan" source="keywords">Prashant Bhushan</keyword>, who appeared on behalf of NGOs Association for Democratic Reforms and Common Cause, that he wanted initiation of contempt proceedings against the SBI. Bhushan said the SBI's application is likely to be listed on March 11 and the contempt application should also be heard together with it. "Please send an e-mail. I will pass the order," the CJI said. The SBI moved the top court on March 4 seeking extension of time till June 30 to disclose the details of the electoral bonds that were encashed. In a landmark verdict on February 15, a five-judge constitution bench of the apex court had scrapped the Centre's electoral bonds scheme of anonymous political funding, calling it "unconstitutional" and ordering disclosure by the Election Commission of the donors, the amount donated by them and the recipients by March 13. Ordering closure of the scheme forthwith, the top court had directed the SBI, the authorised financial institution under the scheme, to submit by March 6 the details of the electoral bonds purchased since April 12, 2019 till date to Election Commission (EC), which will publish the information on its official website by March 13. In the contempt plea, the NGOs have said that two days before the expiry of the stated deadline, the SBI has filed an application seeking time till June 30 to comply with the directions. "It is submitted that the said application is mala fide and demonstrates a wilful and deliberate disobedience &amp; defiance of the judgement passed by the constitution bench of this court. It is further a clear attempt to undermine the authority of this court," it said. "The petitioner herein is filing the instant petition seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against State Bank of India for wilfully and deliberately disobeying the order dated February 15 passed by this court... wherein this court directed SBI to submit details of contribution made to the political parties through electoral bonds to the Election Commission of India by March 6," it said. It said the affidavit supporting the SBI's application has neither been sworn by the chairman or the managing director of the bank. It said SBI has the record of the unique number allotted to each electoral bond and the know your customer (KYC) details of its purchaser. "The requirement of the KYC is mentioned in section 4 of the EB scheme itself, therefore, the SBI is well aware of the identity of purchasers of each electoral bond," the plea said. It said as per clause 7 of the electoral bond scheme, information furnished by the buyer can be disclosed when demanded by a competent court. "As per clause 12 (4) of the scheme, electoral bonds have to be encashed within fifteen days failing which the amount of bonds not encashed are to be deposited by the bank to the PM relief Fund. Thus, it is inconceivable that SBI does not have the recorded information readily available within its data base," it said. The plea said electoral bonds are "completely traceable" which is evident from the fact that SBI maintains a secret number-based record of donors who buy bonds, and the political parties they donate to. It said as per information received through RTI, in 30 phases of electoral bonds sale, only 19 out of 29 SBI authorised branches sold electoral bonds and 14 SBI branches encashed them. "The data available as on January 2024 further shows that only 25 political parties had opened their account and are eligible for encashing electoral bonds. Therefore, compiling of this information should not be difficult as the system is already in place," it said. "It is mandatory that SBI furnishes all information relating to electoral bonds within stipulated time frame given by this court as voters will not be able to exercise their informed opinion properly during Lok Sabha 2024 if complete information about EBs is not shared with them," it said. The plea said any form of anonymity in the finances of political parties goes against the essence of participatory democracy and people's right to know enshrined under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution. It said availability of information about electoral bonds will give voters a chance to truly inspect, express and decide their choices. "This defiant approach of the SBI towards citizen's 'right to know' about huge sums of money received by parties through electoral bonds and corporates in a non-transparent and unaccountable manner is reprehensible and betrays its clear motive to stifle citizen's voice and right to audit actions of the political class, and therefore it should be held as serious breach of contempt by this court," it alleged.

Mumbai, Apr 4 () State-owned Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) on Saturday said the government has nominated it for collection of donations for PM-Cares Fund.The Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-Cares Fund) was set up on March 28 to raise money for combating the Covid-19 crisis and to provide relief to the affected."Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), has been nominated by the government for collection of funds, which will be used to support the community during the Coronavirus outbreak. The funds will be assigned to PM-Cares Fund," the bank said in a statement.The contributions can be made by RTGS, NEFT, IMPS, cheques and demand drafts drawn in favour of PM-Cares Fund.One can also remit contributions directly by electronic clearing system (ECS) to the designated savings bank account of Indian Overseas Bank.All such contributions will be entitled to 100 per cent income tax exemption under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.Political leaders, corporates, defence personnel, employees of PSUs such as Railways and Bollywood personalities are among a cross-section of organisations and people who have announced their contribution to the PM-Cares Fund.All officials of the external affairs ministry are also donating a day's salary, while some of them are voluntarily donating more.The Army, Navy and Indian Air Force as well as employees of the defence ministry have decided to donate one day's salary totalling around Rs 500 crore. Govt nominates IOB for collecting donations for PM Cares Fund

New Delhi, May 19 () Employees of State Bank of India (SBI) have decided to contribute an additional amount of Rs 7.95 crore to the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) Fund as part of their effort to fight the COVID-19 crisis. The donation made by SBI employees by letting go of one day's salary and a day's leave encashment totals at Rs 107.95 crore, the country's largest lender said in a statement. In March, around 2,56,000 employees of SBI donated Rs 100 crore to the PM-CARES Fund that is created to fight the coronavirus pandemic, it said. SBI has also committed 0.25 per cent of its annual profit of 2019-20 towards CSR (corporate social responsibility) activities to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, it said. Public sector companies and their employees have been at the forefront in the fight against COVID-19 and they have generously contributed to the PM-CARES Fund. At this time of crisis, SBI is taking all efforts to provide best possible banking services to its customers, it said. The bank is also urging citizens to avail digital banking services and avoid moving out of the house so that social distancing is maintained, it added. DP HRS

New Delhi, Apr 4 () State-owned Indian Potash Ltd on Friday donated Rs 5 crore to the PM-CARES Fund, taking the total contribution by fertiliser PSUs to Rs 32 crore so far.Employees of two PSUs -- National Fertilizer Ltd (NFL) and Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd -- have donated their one day's salary amounting to Rs 88 lakh and Rs 50 lakh, respectively, for the PM-CARES Fund, an official statement said.Fertiliser and Chemicals Minister D V Sadananda Gowda lauded the efforts of the PSUs saying this will strengthen and support the relief works being carried out by the central government in the wake of COVOID-19 outbreak.Other fertilizer companies especially Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO), Krishak Bharati Cooperative Ltd (KRIBHCO) and NFL-KISAN have also contributed more than Rs 27 crore to the PM-CARES Fund.The Centre has set up the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) Fund with the primary objective of dealing with any kind of emergency or distress situation such as the one posed by COVID-19 pandemic and the contribution made to the said fund shall qualify as CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) expenditure under the Companies Act 2013. New Delhi, Apr 1 () Fertiliser firms have donated over Rs 27 crore to the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) Fund to fight the coronavirus pandemic, the fertiliser and chemicals ministry said on Wednesday. Leading fertiliser cooperative IFFCO has contributed Rs 25 crore, KRIBHCO about Rs 2 crore to PM-CARES, while state-owned firm NFL-KISAN about Rs 63.94 lakh, the ministry said in a statement. The Centre has set up the PM-CARES Fund with the primary objective of dealing with any kind of emergency or distress situation such as that posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has already clarified that any contribution made to the said fund shall qualify as CSR expenditure under the Companies Act 2013. Commending on the contribution made by these companies, Fertiliser and Chemicals Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said it will go a long way in helping the government combat coronavirus and mitigate the impact of the outbreak. New Delhi, Apr 1 () FDI-funded realty firm Experion Developers on Wednesday said it has donated Rs 1.85 crore to PM CARES Fund for fighting the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to the Rs 1.85-crore contribution, Experion Developers has extended the material supply of medicines and essential items to the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), the company said in a statement. The firm has also contributed Rs 20 lakh to Haryana Corona Relief Fund. The Gurugram-based company is backed by Singapore's Experion Holdings, which is the real estate investing arm of the USD 2.5 billion AT Holdings group of companies. It is developing township, housing and commercial projects mainly in Gurugram, Haryana, Amritsar, Punjab and Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. MJH ANSANS

Experion Developers donates Rs 1.85 crore to PM CARES Fund

New Delhi, Apr () Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL) on Thursday announced a financial contribution of Rs 5 crore towards PM CARES Fund to fight the coronavirus outbreak. In addition to the aid, JSL has taken several steps like offering medical facilities, safety equipment, among others, to contain the spread of the virus, the company said in a statement. "Jindal Stainless announces a contribution of Rs 5 crore towards PM-CARES Fund in support of the on-going efforts of the government to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in India," it said. The company had earlier pledged a sum of Rs 15 lakh to Haryana Chief Minister's Relief Fund, it said. The company's 580-bedded multi super-specialty hospital Jindal Institute of Medical Sciences (JIMS) at Hisar (Haryana) has dedicated 125 beds for isolation ward and two negative pressure isolation rooms for COVID-19 patients. The facility is also producing and supplying industrial and medical oxygen to JIMS and Agroha Medical College for medical emergencies. Apart from this, JSL is supporting over 500 families through food packets and food grain distribution in areas around its plants at Hisar and Jajpur (Odisha). The company is also distributing ration and food supplies to migrants and daily wage workers in Delhi-NCR post the imposition of lockdown, it said. JSL Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal said, "In the midst of this global health crisis, we understand the need to support the government and put up joint efforts towards the goal of saving lives.
