Currently, SBI has a 63% stake in the fund house and the remaining 37% is held by Paris-based AMUNDI Asset Management. SBI MF is a joint venture between SBI and AMUNDI Asset Management. Zomato becomes a top pick for large mutual fund houses in July

New Delhi, Apr 3 () Mutual funds' asset base rose marginally to over Rs 27 lakh crore in the January-March quarter, with SBI MF emerging as the largest fund house. The average asset under management (AAUM) of the industry, comprising 44 players, stood at Rs 26.77 lakh crore in the October-December quarter 2019, according to data by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi). The asset base of the industry was Rs 24.5 lakh crore in the same period a year ago. The marginal growth of one per cent on quarter-on quarter basis comes amid high volatility in equity markets. Among the top five fund houses, SBI MF and Nippon India MF have witnessed gain in their asset base, while the other three - HDFC MF, ICICI Prudential MF and Aditya Birla Sunlife MF - saw decline in their average AUMs. With an asset base of Rs 3,73,537 crore, SBI Mutual Fund has become the largest fund house in the country during the January-March quarter 2020, toppling HDFC Mutual Fund, which has an average AUM of Rs 3,69,783 crore. The fund house has jumped from the third spot at the end of December 2019 quarter to the first position. SBI MF had an asset base of Rs 3,52,632 crore. Commenting on the performance, Ashwani Bhatia MD and CEO, SBI MF said, "Over the years, we have built robust internal systems and processes, we have the largest investment team in the industry and believe in bottom-up investing." "We encourage our teams to market the right products to customers and we believe we are in the game for the long term. Our purpose is very important for us. These have helped us achieve this milestone," he added. HDFC MF, which is at the second position, have seen a drop in its asset base to Rs 3,69,783 crore during the quarter under review from Rs 3,82,517 crore in December quarter. This is followed by ICICI Prudential MF at the third rank with an average AUM of Rs 3,50,743.5 crore in the March quarter. It had an average AUM of Rs 3,61,506.57 crore in the December quarter. Aditya Birla Sunlife MF, the fourth largest fund house, has seen its average AUM decreasing to Rs 2,47,522 crore from Rs 2,49,926 crore. New Delhi, Apr 13 () Markets regulator Sebi on Monday disposed of insider trading charges against two mutual fund houses - SBI Funds Management and Aditya Birla Sunlife AMC - in the matter of Manappuram Finance.It was alleged that the two fund houses had sold shares of Manappuram Finance Ltd (MFL) while in possession of unpublished price sensitive information (UPSI) about the company and thereby violated insider trading norms.Sebi, pursuant to investigation in the matter of selective disclosure of unpublished price sensitive information by MFL, observed that the two fund houses had sold its shares while allegedly in possession of UPSI during March 1-20, 2013 and allegedly violated PIT (Prohibition of Insider Trading) Regulations.Sebi noted that officials of MFL met Ambit Capital Pvt Ltd's research analysts on March 18, 2013 to seek market guidance about the quarterly results and future outlook.Ambit published a research report based on the meeting which was distributed to its clients (broking as well as research) on March 19, 2013 before the market opening hours.In the research report, Ambit had changed its rating of MFL's stock from "buy" to "under review."Ambit published the report based on the meeting which was distributed to its clients (broking as well as research) on March 19, 2013 before the market opening hours.The information of negative profit for the fourth quarter of FY2012-13, which is deemed to be price sensitive information, was disclosed to the stock exchanges by MFL on March 20, 2013 after market hours and the information was already in the public domain before that.Sebi said the asset management companies (AMCs) were not in a position to know that the information that was distributed in the research report or discussed in the conference call or being covered by media is UPSI.The transactions of the asset management companies was purely from the point of view of the unit holders in the mutual fund and selling of the scrip of MFL during that time was necessary to avoid significant loss to the unit holders in the scheme, since the price of the scrip was rapidly falling after the research report was issued in the morning of March 19, 2013, it added."I do not find a reasonable and acceptable degree of probability towards proving beyond doubt or even, without existence of significant doubt that Noticee (the two fund houses) had traded in the scrip of MFL when in possession of UPSI and hence, the allegation of violation of...PIT Regulations...does not stand established," Sebi Adjudicating Officer Vijayant Kumar Verma said in similarly worded separate orders."I hereby dispose of the SCN (show cause notice) in the matter without any penalty," he added.Last month, Sebi had disposed of insider trading allegations against IDFC Asset Management Company and BNP Paribas Asset Management in the same matter. New Delhi, Mar 17 () SBI Funds Management, a joint venture between India's largest bank SBI and European asset manager Amundi, on Tuesday said it has adopted stewardship code which requires the fund house to monitor its investor companies and establish voting policies. In doing this, SBI Mutual Fund has become the first fund house to implement the stewardship code in India. This is aimed at complying with markets regulator Sebi's directive, which mandated all mutual funds and alternative investment funds in the country to adopt a stewardship code, which is applicable for investments in listed equities. The code will come into force from April 1, 2020. Under the code, institutional investors need to monitor investor companies and intervene in these firms in case of any requirement through meetings with the management. Also, they need to have a policy on voting and disclose the voting behaviour. In a statement, SBI Mutual Fund said the stewardship code which they have adopted highlights the stewardship responsibilities undertaken by the fund house to actively monitor, engage with and intervene, if needed, in the companies under its coverage. "We have a fiduciary duty to create long-term value for all our stakeholders. The stewardship code gives an insight into the AMC's strong ESG (environment, social and governance) integration initiatives and firm resolve to take decisions in the best interest of its unit holders," said Navneet Munot, ED and Chief Investment Officer at SBI MF. "The AMC (asset management company) shall continue to monitor and engage constructively with its investee companies on matters related to environmental footprint, social impact and governance," he added. SBI Funds Management adopts stewardship code as mandated by Sebi

New Delhi, Dec 6 () Markets regulator Sebi on Friday directed three public sector financial institutions -- LIC, SBI and Bank of Baroda -- to dilute their stakes to below 10 per cent in UTI Asset Management Company (AMC) by December next year.
 In the case of non-compliance with directions, the shareholding and voting rights of these entities in UTI AMC and UTI Trustee in excess of 9.99 per cent and corporate benefits will be frozen till the time they comply with the orders.
 UTI AMC is promoted by four public sector financial institutions as sponsors -- State Bank of India (SBI), Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), Bank of Baroda (BoB) and Punjab National Bank (PNB) -- with each of them presently holding 18.24 per cent stake in the fund house, while private equity firm T Rowe Price International holds 26 per cent stake in UTI AMC.
 Sebi observed that LIC, SBI and BoB are the sponsors of LIC Mutual Fund, SBI Mutual Fund and Baroda Mutual Fund, respectively, and they also hold more than 10 per cent stake each in these mutual funds.
 In addition, LIC, SBI and BoB are also sponsors of UTI AMC and hold more than 10 per cent stake individually in the AMC and trustee company of UTIMF.
 "The noticees (LIC, SBI and BoB) are sponsors of more than one mutual fund and hold more than 10 per cent shareholding in more than one AMC and trustee company and, hence, are not in compliance with the requirements of ...the MF regulations," Sebi said in an order.
 Sebi amended the mutual fund regulations in March 2018, wherein a shareholder or a sponsor owning at least 10 per cent stake in an AMC is not allowed to have 10 per cent or more stake in another mutual fund house operating in the country.
 In addition, such entities are not allowed to have a representation on the board of another mutual fund house.
 Entities not in compliance with the requirement was given time up to March 2019 to comply with the requirement.
 Besides, it was alleged that LIC and SBI had nominated directors on the board of UTI AMC.
 In their reply to Sebi, they said they had nominated directors in accordance with the provisions in the shareholder agreement and further clarified that such nominees were also not their directors. It was also submitted that none of the working employees of LIC or SBI were on the board of UTI AMC or UTI Trustee and the nominated directors did not have any reporting relationship with the two companies.
 Sebi said that despite the expiry of over 20 months from the date of amendment of the regulations, the three entities are yet to achieve compliance with these requirements. While they have shown that they have initiated some steps to dilute their stake in UTI AMC, the substantial compliance with the regulation "still remains pending".
 Accordingly, the regulator has said that the voting rights of LIC, SBI and BoB in UTI AMC and UTI Trustee shall be brought down below 10 per cent on or before December 31, 2020.
 Also, they have been asked to take suitable steps to ensure compliance with regards to board composition.
 "In the event of non-compliance with the aforesaid directions, the shareholding and voting rights of the noticees in UTI AMC and UTI Trustee in excess of 9.99 per cent and corporate benefits thereon shall stand frozen till such time the noticees comply with the aforesaid directions," it added. In September, inflows into SIPs hit an all-time high of ₹16,042.06 crore, according to Association of Mutual Funds of India (AMFI). It also said that the cumulative Assets Under Management (AUM) for the mutual fund industry stood at ₹46.58 lakh crore as of September end. Apart from pushing investors to bring discipline into their investments, SIPs also automates investing providing convenience with stress-free investing. “Increasing your SIP contributions in line with the rise in your earnings can magically grow your wealth. You can do this annually by increasing your SIP amount,” says a note by Value Research.
