Boeing and <keyword id="2836827" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Advanced-Systems-Limited">Tata Advanced Systems Limited</keyword> (TASL) on Wednesday signed a framework agreement to take part in aerospace and defence manufacturing and potential integrated systems development opportunities, including unmanned aerial vehicles, taking <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>’s ‘<keyword id="6354869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="make-in-India">Make in India</keyword>’ campaign one step ahead. 

	The agreement was signed by Shelley Lavender, president of Boeing Military Aircraft and Sukaran Singh, managing director and chief executive officer of TASL. TASL already has a contract to manufacture aerostructures for Boeing's CH-47 Chinook and AH-6i helicopters.
 

	"This agreement with TASL is significant because it demonstrates Boeing's commitment to expanding its aerospace manufacturing footprint in India," Lavender said.
 "As we step into our 100th year in business, a new aerospace partnership with India is the perfect milestone to accelerate the momentum we have generated for making in India," said Pratyush Kumar, president for <keyword id="189173" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Boeing-India">Boeing India</keyword>. "It is noteworthy that TASL will produce Chinook helicopter parts in India even before the procurement contract is signed with the Indian government." 

	The companies intend to access markets jointly for products and platforms developed together by Boeing and TASL, a company press release said.
 

	"This framework agreement is the result of the world-class competencies of TASL as well as the vendor eco-system it has helped establish in India. It gives us an opportunity to explore the massive potential in India for aerospace manufacturing and make the investments required to grow the industry," said S. Ramadorai, Chairman of TASL. "Boeing's platforms require complex manufacturing processes within a competitive cost structure and we are confident that the partnership will be able to deliver high quality aerostructures out of India."
 Other Tata group companies - <keyword id="2951672" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Advanced-Materials-Limited">Tata Advanced Materials Limited</keyword> (TAML) and TAL Manufacturing Solutions (TAL) - are also supplying important components to Boeing. TAML has delivered power and mission equipment cabinets and auxiliary power unit door fairings for the P-8I long range maritime surveillance and anti submarine warfare aircraft.

Boeing-TASL deal gives a huge boost to Modi’s Make in India

India’s second largest software exporter Infosys has formed a special investment committee on its board to keep a watch on all new acquisitions and big investments of the company. <keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword>, the CEO of the Bengaluru-headquartered IT MNC, is aggressively pursuing buyouts as the company wants to generate $20 billion of revenue by 2020. 
 Its rivals, both <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> and <keyword id="6357585" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tata-Consultancy-Services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (TCS), have a special committee to oversee decisions regarding strategy planning, capital expenditure programmes, acquisitions and investments. Roopa Kudva, new board member and managing director of <keyword id="211875" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Omidyar-Network">Omidyar Network</keyword>'s India operations, would chair the committee that comprises board veteran and former <keyword id="28250" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Microsoft-India">Microsoft India</keyword> chairman <keyword id="50299" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ravi-Venkatesan">Ravi Venkatesan</keyword> among other board members, two people familiar with the development told the Economic Times. 
	 

	"Infosys felt that creating a committee to oversee acquisitions was a necessity, given the company's more aggressive stance on acquisitions and investments under Sikka — this committee will be responsible for vetting and overseeing all decisions the company makes on acquisitions, along with the approval of the rest of the board," said one of them. 
	 

	Infosys declined to confirm whether such a committee had been formed. "We do not comment on rumours or speculation," a company spokeswoman said in an email response to ET. 
 

	Sikka has said that he wants acquisitions to generate at least $1.5 billion of that. According to the company's quarterly report, Infosys had cash and cash equivalents of about $5.2 billion as of March 31, 2015. Earlier, in an interview to ET, Sikka said that Infosys would be very aggressive in chasing buyouts. In February, days after the software company bought automation startup <keyword id="2728667" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Panaya">Panaya</keyword> for about Rs 1,200 crore ($200 million), the first non-founder CEO of Infosys said, "We have a dozen targets we are looking at now." Infosys made another large acquisition and bought ecommerce services provider <keyword id="2822310" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Kallidus">Kallidus</keyword> (also known as Skava) for $120 million in April. "Anytime we see a company with talent, capabilities and IP in these areas (AI and collaboration technology) we would love to go for an acquisition," said Sikka, a former SAP board member. 
	 

	Both the Panaya and Skava acquisitions were vetted by the newly-formed investment committee on the Infosys board, said the two sources quoted above. 
	 

	The formation of this committee comes at a crucial juncture for Infosys, which is making big bets in newer areas of technology as part of Sikka's overall plan to turnaround the fortunes of the company and also when rivals such as TCS and Wipro are trying to make similar investments to gain a first-mover advantage in areas such as artificial intelligence and automation. Sandra Notardonato of <keyword id="6371981" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Gartner">Gartner</keyword> Research said, to achieve the compound annual rate of revenue growth of 18% implied by the $20 billion target, Infosys is counting on $1.5 billion in acquisitions, 10% contribution from new service areas and 15% internal growth. It’s worth noting that Infosys’ rival Wipro also has a committee that oversees decisions around acquisitions, among other things. Wipro's billionaire chairman <keyword id="6419840" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Azim-Premji">Azim Premji</keyword>, CEO TK Kurien, board veterans <keyword id="2881183" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="William-Arthur-Owens">William Arthur Owens</keyword> and Jagdish Sheth, and former head of <keyword id="6528042" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Hewlett-Packard">Hewlett-Packard</keyword>'s printing business Vyomesh Joshi are currently part of this committee. Even Tata Consultancy Services has an executive committee that oversees decisions around capital expenditure programmes, acquisitions and investments. Members of the committee include TCS CEO N Chandrasekaran, <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata Group</keyword> chairman <keyword id="6356895" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Cyrus-Mistry">Cyrus Mistry</keyword>, former company veteran S Ramadorai, Harvard Business School professor Clayton Christensen and board veteran Ron Sommer.

Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka creates a special panel to look into all acquisitions

When <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=N+Chandrasekaran&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">N. Chandrasekaran</a> was asked how he will handle manufacturing since he had no experience, his reply reminded the 5-member selection panel of the time when <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ratan+tata&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Ratan Tata</a> was named <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=tata+sons&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Tata Sons </a>Chairman. 
 
"I cannot all by myself. I need a team to guide me,” Chandrasekaran replied. 
 When <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword> was taking over from JRD Tata, he had no experience in technology and was dependent on FC Kohli to build <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=TCS&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">TCS </a>into the group flagship. 
 
ET quoted people involved in selection process saying that Chandrasekaran's answer made it evident he was ready to hit the ground running. 
 
The selection committee interviewed three other serious contenders - Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth, Harish Manwani of Unilever and Sir George Buckley of the Smiths Group. 
 So how Chandrasekaran, or Chandra, appointed? Well, before the <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword> board met to select the occupant for the corner office, the selection panel briefed the Nomination and Remuneration Committee (NRC) of the board about its unanimous choice. Some of the members of NRC - Tata himself, Ronen Sen and Venu Srinivasan - were also on the selection panel, so the meeting was brief. This was followed by a meeting of the entire board where Chandra, who arrived after addressing the media on TCS' quarterly results, was "officially, given the news. Sources said both Tata and Chandra made short speeches. 
 
After the board meet at Bombay House, the group headquarters of the $103-billion conglomerate in south Mumbai, Chandra and fellow Tata Sons board member Amit Chandra drove back together to the TCS head office. 
 
Pretty early on during selection interviews, the search panel came to the conclusion that, despite the global nature of the process, an internal candidate was to be preferred - one who understood the complexities and ethos of the House of Tatas. 
 
"An external candidate would need some months to grapple with the diversity,” an old group associate told ET. Speth, while an internal candidate, was not an insider in the sense Chandra is. 
 "Look at his value-creation track record and the scale of operations he manages at TCS along with his personal leadership traits and the respect he generates,” another official involved in the process told ET, adding “He has grown TCS substantially from what he inherited from S Ramadorai and helped it topple <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> as the IT bellwether.” 
 
Chandrasekaran has been instrumental in leading business transformation for many of his global clients. And that in turn has given him invaluable insights into customer centricity. 
 
Under Chandrasekaran, TCS had identified a series of future leaders, so taking him out of the organisation would not have triggered a major dislocation. 
 
His finance deputy was the obvious choice to follow in his footsteps. 
 Now, as <keyword id="651163" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Sons-Chairman">Tata Sons Chairman</keyword>, Chandrasekaran's job will be to create his own brain trust at the earliest. So that would mean the long awaited group chief financial officer's position getting filled. 
 
Some would even expect the creation of a vice-chairman's role - something that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=cyrus+mistry&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Cyrus Mistry</a> had promised the Tata Sons board but never did. 
 
"The selection panel or the board could not have done that for him. He has to lead that initiative,” a senior Tata Group official told ET.

Tata Technologies to help upgrade 71 ITIs in Tamil Nadu

Fakir Chand Kohli, the founder and the first CEO of <keyword id="6357585" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-consultancy-services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (TCS), passed away on Thursday after reportedly suffering a heart attack. He was 96. A recipient of the Padma Bhushan, Kohli is called the 'Father of Indian IT Industry' and is credited for pioneering the technology revolution in India. Mourning the passing of Kohli, TCS, in statement, noted that Kohli joined the company in 1969 at the behest of J.R.D. Tata. He pivoted the first into management consultancy, and then over the next two decades, into software development, helping the organisation navigate multiple technology waves over two and a half decades by continually investing in people and staying relevant to customers, it said. Kohli stepped down as TCS' CEO in 1996 and continued to play an active role in promoting technology to solve the country's social problems. <keyword id="46894" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword> Chairman N. Chandrasekaran said: "I am deeply saddened by the news that Mr F.C. Kohli passed away this afternoon. FC Kohli, 'father' of India's IT industry and TCS founder, passes away at 96

<keyword id="1583080" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="AirAsia-India">AirAsia India</keyword> is conducting an internal investigation after <keyword id="3821099" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ex-tata-sons">ex-Tata Sons</keyword> chairman <keyword id="6356895" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cyrus-Mistry">Cyrus Mistry</keyword> raised red flags over functioning of the airline. During investigations, it surfaced that senior executives of AirAsia had complained to the company board and <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata Group</keyword> about serious lapses in business practices time and again, but no actions were taken. 
 
AirAsia executives highlighted few complaints, saying AirAsia was being "run" by Malaysian parent AirAsia Bhd, in contravention of FDI rules, and that the Indian venture was being "overcharged" by the Malaysian company. 
 
According to Indian rules, foreign airlines can only own up to 49% in domestic airlines but effective management control must remain with the Indian partner. 
 As per reports, AirAsia India executives had warned board chairman Ramadorai and director <keyword id="6578785" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharat-Vasani">Bharat Vasani</keyword> about potential losses, and the way the airline was being run. Some executives had questioned AirAsia chief <keyword id="82750" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tony-Fernandes">Tony Fernandes</keyword> on entering into what they termed as “costly financial deals” with associate companies of AirAsia Bhd. Email correspondence between February 2014 and July 2015 highlights these complaints. 
 
"A thorough investigation was sought. The details of fraudulent transactions were discovered through an audit. It was taken to its logical conclusion and an FIR was filed against the resistance that has been discussed in the media in recent days," ET quoted a source as saying. 
 
In an email sent to Ramadorai, former executive Gopalan warned him about the breach of FDI and also hifhlighted many other issues. "Revenue management has to be real time and handled by persons familiar with the Indian marketplace and its behaviour", but the entire process is in Kuala Lumpur (the headquarters of AirAsia Bhd). "This is a significant issue from an effective management control perspective also," Gopalan had written. 
 "We have been mandated to use AGSS for outsourcing aspects of finance and accounting, HR functions, procurement and IT," Gopalan wrote in a mail to AirAsia Global Shared Services (AGSS). He also wrote that AGSS has exceeded the amount as compared to what it would have been of they were to inhouse the entire operation. There was also a warning that using Tune <keyword id="35450" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="insurance">Insurance</keyword>, another associate company of the AirAsia group, would reduce AirAsia India's earnings by 50%. 
 
The issue of selecting an advertising company was also brought to light. "We have decided not to go with PHAR, which is an AA (AirAsia) Group Company. This could lead to lesser rates as well," Gopalan noted. 
 
Another issue discussed in the mail was related to authority over clearing payments and expenses. Companies typically assign the responsibility of approving payments over a specified limit to the board and payments related to the day to day expenses to the management but according to a person familiar with the process, in AirAsia India, day to day approvals on key payments, travel, initial offer letters to employees etc came from Fernandes. 
 
"This process was followed because the authority of this director (Fernandes) was agreed by the board. Every agreement and contract that AirAsia India executed with an Indian or foreign agency and related party followed exactly the same process," he told ET. 
 
Another person familiar with the operations of the airlines told ET that only capital expenditure is approved by the board. 
 Gopalan and several colleagues - such as <keyword id="2190104" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gaurav-Rathore">Gaurav Rathore</keyword>, commercial director; <keyword id="217165" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amit-Singh">Amit Singh</keyword>, director of flight operations; and <keyword id="3821101" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="najam-rao">Najam Rao</keyword>, head of security - quit AirAsia India in 2015. Chandilya's contract expired in March 2016. 
 
Gopalan also sought a meeting with Mistry. "I brought out (facts) to you so that the (Tata) group is not blindsided...This meeting is requested solely with the intent of protecting the Tata group and to enable me to discharge my duties honestly towards the position I was appointed for," he wrote. 
 <keyword id="3288032" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amar-Abrol">Amar Abrol</keyword> is the replacement for Chandilya and <keyword id="377197" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ankur-Khanna">Ankur Khanna</keyword> is now in the place of Gopalan, eight months after he quit, with effect from April 1, 2016. The airline is yet to make a profit.

Investigations reveal AirAsia executives had apprised Tatas of lapses in the airline

The <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata Group</keyword> today (June 23) said it aims to bring out a fully built aircraft for Ruag Aviation, an international group for aerospace and defence.
 <keyword id="1706423" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Advanced-Systems-Ltd">Tata Advanced Systems Ltd</keyword> (<keyword id="469678" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="TASL">TASL</keyword>) has tied up with Europe's <keyword id="2362617" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="RUAG-Aviation">RUAG Aviation</keyword> to manufacture crucial systems for the latter's <keyword id="1092069" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dornier-228">Dornier 228</keyword> new generation aircraft. 

	The Tata-Ruag partnership is a glowing example of cooperation between India and Europe, S Ramadorai, TASL chairman, said. 
 

	"It is our belief that this project is a significant step forward in India's growth as a high technology, precision, manufacturing destination. Ruag has entrusted the Tatas to deliver its showcase product, the Dornier 228, at world-class standards of precision and quality," he said. 
 

	"Our vision is to work with Ruag in having a full aircraft, equipped with systems flying out from a Tata final assembly. This will be of significant importance to the Indian Armed forces in their desire to produce products locally," he added
 TASL, in a span of five years, has become a significant player in the Global Aerospace market by delivering successfully over 70 Sikorsky S-92 cabins, and delivered Empennage and Center Wing Box for the C-130 J aircraft through its separate JV with <keyword id="112859" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lockheed-Martin">Lockheed Martin</keyword>, Ramadorai said. 

	It has also made Hyderabad a premier manufacturing destination for Global OEMs, he added.

Tata Group Keen To Work With Ruag Aviation To Build Aircraft

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Boeing">Boeing</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tata+Advanced+Systems">Tata Advanced Systems</a> on Monday announced a joint venture that will manufacture aerostructures for aircraft and collaborate on integrated systems development opportunities in India. 
 
According to the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Boeing">Boeing</a> press release, "The JV will initially create a manufacturing center of excellence to produce aerostructures for the AH-64 Apache helicopter and to compete for additional manufacturing work packages across Boeing platforms, both commercial and defense." 
Boeing and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tata+Advanced+Systems">Tata Advanced Systems</a> want to grow this partnership in the future. They want to collaborate, develop and sell integrated systems. 
 
"This partnership will capitalize on India's industrial capability, innovation and talent to contribute to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Boeing">Boeing</a>'s long-term competitiveness and position us for future growth in the global marketplace," said Chris Chadwick, president and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space &amp; Security. Tata and Boeing to make Apache fuselages in India

Much before the retirement of a <keyword id="5645" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="CEO">CEO</keyword>, the chairman or the company’s board chalk out succession plan in order to save the company from the downfall. This is what India's third largest software firm <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> did. It appointed <keyword id="2067405" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Abid-Ali-Neemuchwala">Abid Ali Neemuchwala</keyword>, the former Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) BPO head, as its first ever chief operating officer (<keyword id="6423421" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="COO">COO</keyword>). The information was revealed in an Economic Times report. 
 
With this announcement, the process of succession planning begins at Wipro as TK Kurien’s five-year-term as CEO will expire the next year. 
 Abid Ali Neemuchwala, who is the former head of <keyword id="748094" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="TCS-BPO">TCS BPO</keyword>, and energy and utilities chief <keyword id="608152" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Anand-Padmanabhan">Anand Padmanabhan</keyword> were leading the race to be named Wipro's first COO. And Wipro picked Neemuchwala over Padmanabhan to lead the post. 
 
"Abid brings invaluable experience with his track record of building and scaling businesses. I am confident his deep understanding of technology and expertise in all facets of IT &amp; BPS businesses will help power our businesses to greater heights," Kurien told ET. 
 

	In his role, Abid will head the Service Lines of Global Infrastructure Services, Business Application Services, Business Process Services, and Advanced Technology Solutions. He will also head Business Operations; the geographies comprising Continental Europe, Africa, and LATAM; Strategic Engagements, Advisor Relationships as well as the Marketing function.
 
Earlier, another ET report had hinted at the creation of a COO position at the Bangalore-headquartered IT company to free up TK Kurien so that he could focus on technology vision and strategy. 
 Similar succession strategies were earlier adopted by other renowned IT firms. At the Mumbai-based TCS, N Chandrasekaran was appointed as the COO before he escalated to the post of CEO by replacing S Ramadorai. On the other hand at <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, S Gopalakrishnan replaced Nandan Nilekani to take over as CEO and SD Shibulal succeeded Gopalakrishnan, the leading business daily added.
