Last month when <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=aamir+khan&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Aamir Khan</a> shared a picture on social media that showed the <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> perfectionist holding dumbbells, it immediately took the internet by storm. People were finding it hard to believe how a 51-year-old managed to attain such an unbelievably jacked-up physique. 
 
This was the actor’s look for his upcoming movie, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=dangal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Dangal</a>, in which he essays the role of Indian wrestler Mahaveer Phogat. 
 
Granted, this is not the first time that Khan has undergone a physical makeover for a movie- the actor had gotten eight-pack abs for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ghajini&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Ghajini</a> back in 2008, but anyone who has seen the picture will tell you- this is certainly Khan’s most jaw-dropping transformation till date. 
 
The biggest question on everyone’s minds was naturally unanimous- How did Khan do it? 
 For starters, Khan worked with <keyword id="1743648" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ryan-Fernando">Ryan Fernando</keyword>, an award winning celebrity sports nutritionist whose clients include two-times <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=olympics&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Olympics</a> medalist wrestler <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=sushil+kumar&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Sushil Kumar</a>, cricketers <keyword id="6405247" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Robin-Uthappa">Robin Uthappa</keyword>, <keyword id="17805" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shikhar-Dhawan">Shikhar Dhawan</keyword> and <keyword id="368" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Harbhajan-Singh">Harbhajan Singh</keyword> among others. 
 
To help Khan attain a professional wrestler-like physique, Fernando introduced the actor to nutrigenomics- the scientific study of the interaction of nutrition and genies.

India has only five laboratories in the country that undertake sequencing of the DNA and even then testing all genes- about 20,000-25,000 of them can be a rather expensive affair. 
 “To test something as simple as whether you are allergic to gluten it is as low as Rs 5,000, but if you want to do the whole gamut like <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword> did, it will cost you closer to about Rs 1 lakh, which would analyse everything related to food and nutrition,” revealed Fernando in an interview with Factordaily. 
 
As for Khan, the test resulted in him having to balance out his anti-oxidants. It showed that he should be avoiding refined carbohydrates as it may result in his cholesterol and triglycerides going up- all because there is a certain gene that might not be working well. 
 
Khan had to undergo rigorous workout sessions to gain 93 kgs from a weight of 68 kgs in six months- for his role of the ageing wrestler during the first phase of Dangal’s shoots. Later, he also had a weight loss target of 25 kgs before he could begin shooting for the next phase.

According to a Target spokesperson, a third-party company is responsible for blocking and flagging would-be problematic websites on Target's server. Target determines which categories of flagged websites should be denied access, but it is not directly involved in the process of blocking specific websites.Target said it flagged the issue to the third-party company and the website was moved into a new, unblocked category, late Friday. What's next? The NLRB received <a href="https://www.nlrb.gov/news-outreach/graphs-data/charges-and-complaints/charges-and-complaints" target="_blank" rel="noopener">18,552</a> charges in the 2019 fiscal year. The Drive-Thru: Victoria's Secret changes, problems at Target, and moldy Whoppers

The mid-sized Western city has been called the <a href="https://livability.com/best-places/top-100-best-places-to-live/2019/id/boise">best place for millennials to live in the US</a>. It was also <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/samanthasharf/2018/02/28/full-list-americas-fastest-growing-cities-2018/#1e7e23217feb">the fastest-growing city in the US</a> in 2018, according to Forbes. And of the almost <a href="https://www2.census.gov/programs-surveys/demo/tables/geographic-mobility/2018/state-to-state-migration/State_to_State_Migrations_Table_2018.xls">80,000 people who moved to Idaho in 2018</a>, about 26% were from California, according to US Census data.On a recent <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/boise-idaho-fastest-growing-city-in-us-photos-growth-cost-2019-12">four-day trip to Boise</a> for Business Insider, I spoke to three millennials who gave up their big-city lives in California to move to Boise. Here's what they told me.<h2>Ryan Miller says she never would've been able to afford to buy a home in her 20s in Los Angeles </h2>Ryan Miller, a 28-year-old originally from the Los Angeles area, first came to Boise for college, spending her last two years of undergrad at Boise State University. After graduating, she moved back to Los Angeles and got a job as a marketing manager.She moved back to Los Angeles because she missed California, but once she got there, she almost immediately wished she were back in Boise.<img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5df129a0fd9db25b6b55cf96-1574/img1993.jpg" alt="ryan miller jelli" />Katie Warren/Business Insider28-year-old Ryan Miller went from living paycheck-to-paycheck in Los Angeles to buying a home in Boise."In 2015 in California, I had a really good job, I had really good roommates, but still everything was just paycheck to paycheck," Miller said, adding that she felt like she practically lived in her car because "commutes were so crazy."She moved back to Boise in 2016 and now works as the marketing manager for <a href="https://www.jelli.com/">Jelli</a>, a Silicon Valley radio ad-tech company that opened an office in Boise in 2017."I feel like I get paid more for what I do here," Miller said. "Everyone in California does marketing ... Here, I was able to specialize a little bit and find my way into tech."<img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5df7e7fdfd9db2715d671019-1778/img2001.jpg" alt="jelli boise" />Katie Warren/Business InsiderAbout 15 people work in Jelli's Boise office.Boise has a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/emerging-tech-hubs-usa-housing-still-affordable-2019-10">burgeoning tech scene</a>, with some Silicon Valley tech companies - including Jelli - <a href="https://www.curbed.com/2019/1/22/18193112/boise-real-estate-housing-downtown">opening offices there</a> to escape skyrocketing costs in the Bay Area. Jelli's CEO, Michael Dougherty, told me they chose to open an office in Boise when they visited and "realized there was an opportunity for us to participate in a tech scene there that was growing and we could actually, in some cases, be a leader in." Working at Jelli in Boise allowed Miller to buy her first home with her husband in March 2019."Being in my late 20s and owning a house wouldn't have happened in California - ever," Miller said.The <a href="https://www.zillow.com/boise-id/home-values/">median home price in Boise is about $350,000</a>, compared with <a href="https://www.zillow.com/los-angeles-ca/home-values/">$850,000 in Los Angeles</a> and <a href="https://www.zillow.com/san-francisco-ca/home-values/">$1.3 million in San Francisco</a>. But while Boise prices may seem like a bargain to transplants from cities like Los Angeles, some longtime residents no longer find it affordable. Housing prices in the Boise-Nampa metro area rose faster than in any other city in the US between 2018 and 2019, according to <a href="https://www.fhfa.gov/AboutUs/Reports/ReportDocuments/HPI_2019Q2.pdf">an August report</a> from the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and <a href="https://www.brookings.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/GrowingCitiesthatWorkforAll-FINALforWeb.pdf">wages haven't kept up</a>.Miller says she's had to learn to slow down her pace of life since moving to Boise."The California culture is you wake up, you work, you work your ass off all day, and you go home and then you do it again," she said. "So I've had to learn how to just like take a step back and chill a little bit ... Everyone kind of just slows down here and takes time for things, and I've had to learn how to do that cause I didn't grow up in an environment where that was the case."<h2>For Josh Carter, Boise's work-life balance is a vast improvement from that in Los Angeles or San Diego</h2>Josh Carter, a 37-year-old product manager at Jelli who grew up in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, moved to Boise from San Diego with his wife and newborn baby in 2015.Before that, they had tried to buy a house in San Diego. "We got outbid on 40 offers - 40 houses," said Carter, who was commuting at least an hour-and-a-half each way to work in Irvine. <img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5df12da0fd9db274a11266b4-1657/img1985.jpg" alt="josh carter jelli" />Katie Warren/Business InsiderJosh Carter, 37, moved to Boise with his wife and newborn baby in 2015.So they decided to move, and they had five cities in mind: Austin, Denver, Portland, Seattle, and Boise. During their search, Carter applied and was hired at Bodybuilding.com, a Boise-based online retailer of nutrition and weightlifting supplements. So he and his wife packed up everything in their Toyota Prius and made the move to Idaho.Carter said he finds the work-life culture in Boise to be a huge step up - and particularly ideal for seasoned tech workers."Take an engineer who's been at it for five-plus years: They have a family, they're commuting two to four hours a day, and they're just getting burned out," Carter said. "OK, well, you come to Boise, and you no longer have that huge separation from your family. It's a much more realistic work-life balance culture."Instead of working 60 hours a week, you work 40 to 45 hours a week and gain even more hours back from the commute, he said.<img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5dd43ddffd9db20a4e5c5a59-1181/img1949.jpg" alt="boise idaho greenbelt" />Katie Warren/Business Insider"It's a much more realistic work-life balance culture," Carter says of life in Boise."So now you can spend it with your family and do stuff with your kids," Carter said. "You can get outside and go hiking and fishing and hunting."That's not to say that adjusting to life in Boise is without its drawbacks. There's less diversity and fewer facilities and cultural events than in many major cities, Carter said.But the tradeoff is that he sometimes goes fishing on his lunch break, he says. And if he and his wife want to go on a weekend getaway, they can easily drive into the mountains to go camping or backpacking, or drive to Portland or Seattle to visit friends and family. <h2>Lucas Marshall says moving to Boise allowed him and his wife to buy a home and invest in their future </h2>Lucas Marshall, 29, and his wife moved to Boise from Los Angeles in 2018. Later that same year, they were able to buy a home.While it was "a huge adjustment" moving to Boise - which has <a href="https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/boisecitycityidaho">a population of about 228,000</a> as compared to <a href="https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/losangelescitycalifornia">Los Angeles' nearly four million</a> - Boise has far surpassed his expectations in terms of quality of life, Marshall told me.<img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5df12a41fd9db26eb95b1f62-481/img2123.jpg" alt="Lucas Marshall boise" />Courtesy of Lucas Marshall"What turned me on the most was the fact that at 29 years old, I was able to afford a home and invest in my future," Marshall said. "It gave me and my wife the opportunity to start a family and sustain a comfortable lifestyle. What took me six months to do here would have taken me at least 5 to 10 years in Los Angeles."In the fall of 2019, Marshall opened a pop-up shop, <a href="https://marshallgoodsco.com/">Marshall Goods</a>, which sells men's clothing and other goods right next to <a href="http://www.goldysbreakfastbistro.com/">Goldy's Breakfast Bistro</a>, a beloved local breakfast spot. He's considering opening up a permanent store."Personally for me, living in big city most of my life, I was more inclined to slow it down and sink my energy into a smaller, yet thriving place like Boise," Marshall said. iTiffin started operations in October 2013 and caters to nutritional requirements of all age brackets, from specialised meals for children to food for the elderly. 
 
"We blend advanced nutrition, food science and food service to offer everything from wellness-inducing to calorie-defined meals, as per the diner's preference," Das, Co-founder and CEO, told Economic Times. 
 
 
The iTiffin team of about 100 consists of food and nutrition scientists and expert chefs who can dish out up to 20,000 meals a day. Its average preparation is 2,000 meals a day. 
 
The start-up follows a subscription-based business model and food can be ordered via its website or over the phone-80% of its orders come via the website. 
iTiffin offers weekly and monthly lunch and dinner subscription plans, priced at Rs 500-800 and Rs 1,800-3,000 respectively. 
 
One cannot order a single meal. "Healthy food is not a one-off thing, you need to make it a part of your lifestyle," Fernando, Co-founder and Director, told ET. 
Currently, the service is limited to Bengaluru, however, the founders aim to have a pan-India presence, who are building a team and a team is expected to become 
operational in Delhi soon. 
 
The start-up also offers Munchboxes- healthy snacks for those between-the-meals cravings-which can be ordered by anybody from any part of the country. 
The financial daily reported that within one year of its operations, iTiffin served over one lakh meals. It recorded a revenue close to Rs 3 crore in 2014 and is looking to double its employee strength to 200 in the next six months. 
 
"We listen to our customers and understand their need and design our offerings accordingly. It helps the business," Fernando told ET. 
On the suggestion of one of its customers, it recently started a special variety of flour, i-Atta, said to be better-suited to diabetics than ordinary flour. 
But, one of the challenges for iTiffin can be retaining customers. 
 
It has an average customer retention period of 60 days, and more than 5,000 loyal customers, but expanding the customer base and the retention period is a daunting 
task.

The company opened the year with its strongest quarterly lift ever globally, including a healthy 1.7 million paid subscriber additions in the US.Growth weakened during Netflix's typically slower second quarter, and the company surprised by losing a 130,000 subscribers domestically. But they - especially Disney, which impressed out the gate <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-mandalorian-disney-plus-is-top-tv-show-in-world-2019-12">with "The Mandalorian"</a> - are the first signs of Netflix's increasing competition.Investors want to see that Netflix can continue to hold its own in the US in the coming year."The field is getting a lot more crowded with potentially formidable competitors," Tuna Amobi at CFRA Research told Business Insider. "What's pretty clear is the US market is showing some signs of saturation, even before the streaming wars get more intense. The worrisome sign would be if the pace of subscriber additions stagnates in 2020 compared to recent trends."Still, some analysts say the new competition could give Netflix a boost. Many of the new and upcoming streaming services are owned by legacy media companies that were previously mainly available through costly cable subscriptions. The push into streaming could lead more traditional TV subscribers to cut the cord and supplement their viewing with a handful of streaming services.Netflix, which has a little bit of everything, from serial dramas and sitcoms, to documentaries and feature films, is in a prime position to win over those people over."People are going to have three to four subscription services to give them the same feeling that they have with cable," Nick Grous, analyst at investment management firm, ARK Invest, said. "We see that as a benefactor for Netflix."<h2>Is Netflix's investment in international originals paying off?</h2>While Netflix plays defense in the US, it's been growing steadily in the rest of the world where it's still one of the few streaming services that's available almost anywhere.It'll be a few more years before Disney, WarnerMedia, and Netflix's other new rivals catch up to Netflix's global footprint. Investors want Netflix to use that time to put more distance between itself and its rivals abroad. To do that, the streaming giant has been investing in international content, including originals from overseas, licensed programming for local markets, and translating its global originals for more audiences."A distinct part to their strategy is to invest in original content for international markets," Mark Mahaney at RBC Capital Markets said. "We want to see that it's paying off."The company has also been testing cheaper plans outside of the US to entice subscribers in cost-sensitive markets, including a mobile-only offering in India that costs INR 199 (about $3), or about 60% of the price of its basic plan. Netflix is testing a similar model in Malaysia, and analysts expect to see Netflix experiment with more plan options for different markets.Starting with its next earnings report in January, Netflix will begin breaking out membership by four regions, including Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Latin America, and the US and Canada. Previously, it reported on two regions: the US and international. This change may make it easier to assess trends abroad, but also blur the picture in the US. <h2>Will Netflix be able to reduce its cash burn amid all the new competition?</h2>Netflix has been burning cash and taking on debt to fund the $15 billion it is spending on content this year.But, by 2020, Netflix told investors it would start improving its negative free cash flow, and "move slowly toward [free cash flow] positive."Netflix's free cash flow totaled -$1.6 billion through the first nine months of 2019, and is expected to reach -$3.5 billion by year's end. Analysts like Mahaney at RBC Capital Markets want to see that figure to drop between $2 billion and $3 billion for the full year of 2020. However, with more competition looming, Netflix won't be able to pull back on content spending any time soon. CEO Reed Hastings, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oVl3gyIaeI">speaking at the New York Times DealBook conference</a> in November, said Netflix may even spend more on content moving forward, citing the company's ramp up in production on original movies and other categories like animation."I think they can do it," Mahaney said of the free cash flow target, "but [the competition is] a concern."<h2>Will 2020 be the breakout year for Netflix movies? </h2>Analysts will also be watching to see whether Netflix's investments in big budget movies will pay off in 2020, by delivering more subscribers for Netflix or helping Netflix land more talent and content deals.This fall will see big theatrical debuts including Martin Scorsese's "The Irishman," Noah Baumbach's "Marriage Story," Michael Bay's "6 Underground," and Fernando Meirelles "The Two Popes."In 2020, Netflix is expected to release a slew of other movies, including the star-studded action flick, "Red Notice," with Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds; the psychological thriller, "The Devil All the Time"; and the Ryan Murphy-produced, "The Boys in the Band," based on the play of the same name."It remains to be seen if 2020 will be a breakout year for movies," Amobi, at CFRA Research, said. "It could be the biggest buzz year yet for the movie side of the business, if they can build up that moment."Netflix has been conservative in its estimates for the fourth quarter of 2019, in part because it's unclear how some of these films will impact subscriber growth compared to original series.Some analysts say that bigger movies could help Netflix internationally."It is an international play as well because movies reach a wider audience," Grous, at ARK Invest, said.<h2>Will management change its tune and pursue revenue streams outside of subscriptions? </h2>Increased competition from the likes of Disney, Apple, WarnerMedia, and NBCUniversal also has some investors worried about higher churn, or cancellations.The chief fear isn't that subscribers will abandon Netflix altogether, but that they'll <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/netflix-could-lose-10-million-us-subs-without-ads-analyst-2019-11">pause their subscriptions throughout the year</a> while they try out other services, or subscribe to competitor apps to watch popular shows.It could hurt Netflix's revenue in 2020. Laura Martin at Needham <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/netflix-must-launch-cheaper-plan-ads-after-disney-apple-analyst-2019-9">has pushed for Netflix to introduce a cheaper, ad-supported tier</a>, in the $5 to $7 range that Apple TV Plus and Disney Plus cost, which would allow Netflix to continue spending heavily on content while lowering the entry point for subscribers. She has said Netflix risks losing revenue in 2020 from 10 million subscribers, who turn their subscriptions on and off, if it doesn't introduce this plan.However, Netflix has repeatedly said that it will not sell ads, and that's not expected to change."Netflix has been very true to its brand of putting premium content in the control of consumers," Martin said. "They haven't deviated from that mission statement at all."There are other, more subtle options that could fit with Netflix's commercial-free brand ethos.Netflix is<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/netflix-marketing-strategy-brand-deals-campaigns-partners-details-2019-6"> working with brands</a> on product placement, integrations, consumer products, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/netflixs-brand-agency-partners-on-working-with-marketing-tie-ins-2019-8">other tie-ins to its flagship properties</a>, like "Stranger Things," which could become new sources of revenue. The company said it is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/netflix-explains-co-marketing-strategy-brands-coca-cola-stranger-things-2019-7">not trying to make money off of these deals</a>, but some analysts think that will change over time."There's a lot of money in that area that they could easily tap without going into straight, traditional types of advertising," Jim Nail, at Forrester, said. "With product placement, I'm expecting that to become a significant part of their business."Netflix, for its part, is focusing instead on getting people to spend more time watching Netflix to keep subscribers around."The real measurement will be time," Hastings said at the Dealbook conference. "How do consumers vote with their evenings? Stuber said there was one part of the conversation that stood out to him."A lot of times people want to get into film and come into it in a mechanical way or do it in a business model way," Stuber said at Produced By: New York. "But [Sarandos] said, 'One thing I would like to have done right now is 'Wolf of Wall Street.'"Stuber thought that was an interesting choice, as at the time it was known as a project that was a challenge for director Martin Scorsese to find financing for. In a town where executives want sure things, Sarandos seemed to be a risk taker. "And I felt, that guy knows films," Stuber said. "The fact that he would lean into Marty and Leo [DiCaprio, who played the lead in the movie] and want to try to make that, it just struck me."So in 2017, when Sarandos and Netflix came calling with an offer to run the streamer's original movie division, Stuber was up for the challenge. Movies fill an important role in Netflix's slate. The company has said that people routinely turn to its films in between binge-watching series. Netflix previously said about <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/netflix-viewing-is-a-third-movies-no-matter-what-2016-12">one third of its total viewing was films</a>, a ratio that tended to remain constant despite catalog differences between regions.<img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5df39a20fd9db2036e036675-1698/de niro old.jpg" alt="the irishman" />NetflixRobert De Niro in "The Irishman," which is one of Netflix's titles vying for Oscars.So as Hollywood studios began to launch their own competing streaming services, and take their films off Netflix, the company has had to beef up its originals to satisfy subscribers and gain new ones. Stuber is looking to green light 60 original films a year with budgets ranging from $20 million to $200 million. Those include independent films, documentaries, comedies, non-English-language titles, and blockbusters. All these divisions are headed by different individuals with Stuber overseeing it all, like a studio chairman at one of the traditional studios."One of the things I realized when I got [to Netflix] is there was a bunch of confusion in the marketplace because people didn't know how to access us," Stuber said at Produced By: New York. "So we've tried to spend a lot of time over-communicating so that you can find the right person."Stuber leaves the day-to-day operations to his executives, but many producers have realized that when big moves need to be made, Stuber is there to get it done."The Two Popes" producer Dan Lin, who has known Stuber since 2002 when Lin was a creative executive at Warner Bros., recalled how quickly Stuber got behind the movie, which was already in development at Netflix when Stuber joined the company."Often new leaders will only champion projects that they bought themselves, that wasn't the case at all here," Lin told Business Insider. "Scott inherited this project but immediately identified it as a movie that Netflix should be making. He was clear about the targets we needed to hit to get the movie greenlit, and then helped us cast our two actors, playing a crucial role with Anthony Hopkins since they had worked together in the past."<img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5e1367ca855cc24f4f21f7d8-1759/the two popes netflix.jpg" alt="The Two Popes Netflix" />Netflix(L-R) Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce in "The Two Popes."And acclaimed director Noah Baumbach - who is now a Netflix veteran having made both "The Meyerowitz Stories" and "Marriage Story" - said he's seen the industry become more willing to let Netflix into its ranks because of Stuber."Scott has found, and continues to find, a balance between the traditional Hollywood model and Netflix's innovations," Baumbach told Business Insider. "He also does what he says he's going to do. I've never been let down by Scott."But Stuber has never had a problem satisfying the creatives. And with the huge checks Netflix writes for movies, and its reputation for creative freedom, the addition of Stuber is a bonus as the steamer continues to ramp up its originals catalog with upcoming titles like "Red Notice," starring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds; Ron Howard's "Hillbilly Elegy," starring Amy Adams and Glenn Close; and the Ryan Murphy-produced "The Boys in the Band."The more impressive trick Stuber has pulled off in his short time at Netflix, however, has been building a relationships with movie theater chains.The theatrical run by "Roma" last year was a big step forward in smoothing out the rocky relationship Netflix has had with the exhibition scene. Stuber spent a lot of 2017 making the rounds to the major theater chains and trying to build some kind of relationship, according to a source within Netflix. That led to independently owned theaters like Landmark and Alamo Drafthouse showing more Netflix titles.But there's still work to be done with the big chains.The rift has been kept open by the fact that Netflix will not respect the exclusive 72-day theatrical window. This has caused the three biggest chains in the country - AMC, Regal, and Cinemark - to refuse to play Netflix movies.Still, Stuber has made headway."The Irishman" was close to getting the widest release ever for a Netflix title, as the company had discussions with AMC and Cineplex to show the movie. But talks stalled over how short the exclusive window would be (the chains wanted 60 days, Netflix wanted 45). AMC and Cineplex also <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inside-netflix-failed-the-irishman-wide-release-deal-2019-11">tried to get the higher end of the ticket sales split</a>, which is rare. "He very much wants to come to a deal with theater owners, and has assembled a great team to do it, but he doesn't have the final say," one industry insider with knowledge of the talks Stuber has had with theaters owners told Business Insider. This person said Stuber's boss, Sarandos, seemed to feel getting the movies quickly to Netflix subscribers was more important than agreeing to extended theatrical runs.That puts Stuber in a tricky situation, since the filmmakers and stars he's wooing to Netflix still want their movies to play in theaters. (And to get Oscar consideration, movies have to have played theatrically in at least New York and Los Angeles.)With "The Irishman" unable to play at any of the big chains, Netflix went outside the box and showed it on Broadway, screening the movie in midtown New York's historic Belasco Theatre."It was an ingenious idea," "The Irishman" producer Jane Rosenthal told Business Insider of the movie playing at the Belasco. "Scott's passion and commitment to ensure that Marty's vision was going to be delivered the way Marty wanted, it was unwavering."<img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5ddc1e7dfd9db22c337dd95c-2400/paris theatre 2 netflix.jpg" alt="Paris Theatre 2 Netflix.JPG" />NetflixNew York City's Paris Theatre.And Stuber was also a major force in Netflix taking over the lease for New York City's Paris Theatre.The 71-year-old movie house was the last single-screen theater in the city and closed in early 2019 after its previous lease expired. Netflix brought it back to life and played "Marriage Story" there for months. Then in November, the company announced <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/netflix-leases-paris-theatre-in-new-york-city-2019-11">it was taking over the lease</a>. The conventional thinking was that Netflix would use the space to show its new original titles and sidestep working with theaters. But the current plan is to use the space for retrospectives and special screenings, not as a first-run venue, according to a source within Netflix (the company is also in talks to take over The Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles).And then there's Imax. The large-format screen company has worked in the past with Netflix in doing special screenings and its CEO, Richard Gelfond, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/imax-ceo-wants-to-show-more-streaming-netflix-movies-2019-12">told Business Insider</a> he wants to work more with Netflix and other streaming services going forward."It's not a Netflix issue, it's a business issue," Stuber said at Produced By: New York of the current theatrical window. Amazon Studios also recently changed its release model and will now only have theatrical runs of a few weeks before putting its movies on Prime Video. "If everyone would just be calm and talk through it, over the next few years as an industry we'll be able to find the right answer for everyone," Stuber said.<h2>Movies are key to helping Netflix fend off new competition from Disney Plus and others</h2>As 2020 starts up, along with Netflix working on scoring some Oscar gold, the company is gearing up to face the new streaming competition, like Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus, and HBO Max.That makes Stuber's job all the more exciting, as he's spoken in the past of his competitive side that goes back to his college baseball days. And it seems his boss is also up for the challenge."We quickly evolved to the movies that everyone wished they made and that's what I'm shooting for," Sarandos said at the UBS TMT Conference in December on what the future holds at Netflix. "These are films that you would have seen in the theater that any studio will be thrilled to have at the center of their slate, but they are premiering on Netflix and being produced the way that the filmmaker wanted to make it and could make it."Investors are eager to see if Netflix can keep pushing the envelope and make big titles (like Michael Bay's "6 Underground") alongside auteur-driven Oscar bait (Scorsese's "The Irishman")."It remains to be seen if 2020 will be a breakout year for movies [at Netflix]," Tuna Amobi, analyst at CFRA Research, told Business Insider. "It could be the biggest buzz year yet for the movie side of the business."But what's already clear is that Stuber is the perfect fit for a company that wants its way to become the new normal in Hollywood, and shed the remnants of its outsider status."Scott isn't in the development business - he is in the filmmaking business, which is what every filmmaker wants," Lin said on why he would work with Stuber again.
