There is no other reason for a film's failure other than its content not being good, said Bollywood star <keyword id="6357861" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ranbir-kapoor" source="Orion">Ranbir Kapoor</keyword> on Wednesday as he opened up about the poor performance of his last release "<keyword id="6503823" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="shamshera" source="Orion">Shamshera</keyword>". <keyword id="53" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="kapoor" source="Orion">Kapoor</keyword> was speaking at the press conference here to promote his latest release "Brahmastra: Part One-Shiva", co-starring his actor-wife Alia Bhatt. Asked whether he feels Hindi movies are being unfairly treated in recent times, Kapoor said, "I will give the example of my own film. I will not talk about other films. Few weeks ago, my film 'Shamshera' was released. I didn't feel any negativity." "The film didn't run at box office, it is probably because the audience didn't like the film. Eventually it is about the content," he added. In recent times, mainstream Hindi movies like Ranveer Singh's "Jayeshbhai Jordaar", Akshay Kumar's "Bachchhan Paandey", "Samrat Prithviraj" and "Raksha Bandhan", along with Aamir Khan-starrer "Laal Singh Chaddha", failed to register big numbers at the box office. Kapoor, known for movies such as "Rockstar", "Barfi!" and "Sanju", said the audiences will only be entertained if they are served good content. "Who doesn't want to go to the movies to experience a different emotion, get moved by characters, be entertained, get a great laugh, cry and feel something? We all want to feel that. If a film doesn't work, there is no other reason. It is because the content is not good," he added. "Brahmastra", directed by his frequent collaborator and close friend <keyword id="66166" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ayan-mukerji" source="Orion">Ayan Mukerji</keyword>, has been in the making for a long time and faced several delays due to various reasons. Kapoor said no one, including his father, late cinema icon Rishi Kapoor, understood what it takes to make a film like "Brahmastra", which has been mounted on a huge budget and is loaded with visual effects. "It's been so long... No one really understood what it takes to make a film like this because no one has really done this, especially people we know. "The film has been going on for so many years. I remember when my father was alive, I used to lie that I was shooting 'Brahmastra'. I used to hide it and say I'm shooting for some other movie," the 39-year-old actor said. He also credited Mukerji, the director of his two blockbusters "Wake Up Sid" (2008) and "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" (2013), for his growth as an actor. "I have known Ayan since 2008 when he narrated 'Wake Up Sid' to me. I didn't know him before that. He is someone who just came and narrated his entire story. He was sitting on the floor and he was narrating the film for me, saying it would take just 1 hour but it took 5 hours to narrate that film. "I really felt that energy from a young filmmaker and I was like, 'Wow, this guy really has a story to tell.' He is passionate about every word, every character and I could feel that energy. I think art is about energy. You have to feel the energy within other people." Kapoor said he is aware that he will not get another opportunity to do a movie like "Brahmastra" again. "It's not like that after 'Brahmastra', I will do only these kinds of films. I know I won't get an opportunity like this again. I hope going forward I get other opportunities to showcase other different characters that I can portray," he added. 'Shamshera' didn't work because content was not good: Ranbir Kapoor

Actor <keyword id="6357861" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ranbir-kapoor">Ranbir Kapoor</keyword> has tested positive for <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">Covid-19</keyword>. He is on medication and living in quarantine at home. Ranbir's mother <keyword id="3608" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Neetu-Kapoor">Neetu Kapoor</keyword> took to Instagram on Tuesday to share her son's health update. Sharing a photo of Ranbir, Neetu wrote: "Thank you for your concern and your good wishes. Ranbir has tested positive for Covid-19. He is on medication and recovering well. He is in self quarantine at home and following all precautions." Commenting on Neetu's post, fans and followers shared their wishes for Ranbir's speedy recovery. Ranbir's sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni also took to her Instagram story to share a selfie with her ailing brother. Neetu Kapoor had contracted the coronavirus in December last year while shooting for the upcoming film "Jug Jugg Jeeyo" in Chandigarh. On the work front, Ranbir has lately been busy shooting for Ayan Mukerji's action fantasy film "Brahmastra" alongside rumoured girlfriend Alia Bhatt. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni and Mouni Roy. However, it is being speculated that shoot will be temporarily stalled with the lead actor contracting Covid-19. Ranbir's next release is "Shamshera" on June 25. The Karan Malhotra film is an action drama co-starring Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor, and is produced by Yash Raj Films. Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor tests positive for COVID-19

A nice romantic movie with soft soulful music is all that we could have asked for Valentine’s Day weekend. From the looks of it, <keyword id="6357861" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ranbir-kapoor">Ranbir Kapoor</keyword>, <keyword id="2180" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arjun-Rampal">Arjun Rampal</keyword> and <keyword id="6354417" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jacqueline-Fernandez">Jacqueline Fernandez</keyword> starrer <keyword id="715" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Roy">Roy</keyword> promised to be all that. However, the reality was far different from the same. <a href="http://www.desimartini.com/movies/roy/md3110.htm">Desimartini’s verdict</a> of the movie reads, “No amount of Ranbir Kapoor could save this overindulgent wreck of a film.” 
 
The movie started on a good note on Friday and managed to mint Rs 10.40 crore on Friday. The Valentine’s Day helped in maintaining the momentum and the movie managed to add another Rs 11.16 crore to its weekend total. On the other hand, Sunday had a different story to tell. This multi starrer movie ended up collecting Rs 7.12 crore, taking the overall weekend tally to Rs 28.68 crore. The drop that the movie witnessed was partly due to the bad reviews and also because of the India Vs Pakistan 2015 World Cup match. 
 Another movie that opened this week was <keyword id="254528" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ram-Rahim-Singh">Ram Rahim Singh</keyword>’s controversial movie, MSG: The Messenger. Over the weekend, this movie managed a mere Rs 6 crore and has been touted by the critics as a self-praising movie, made just for the fans. 
 
We just hope things to improve immensely in the coming week when Varun Dhawan starrer Badlapur hits the big screen. If the promos are anything to go by, it looks like an intense fair and Dhawan is expected to woo the audiences with his powerful performance.

Box Office Collections of Roy

If there is one movie that has been long awaited by Ranbir Kapoor fans, it’s Roy. The romantic-action-thriller movie much hyped because of Kapoor’s role as a thief, and for an intense and powerful plot, which had been kept well under wraps, invoking the curiosity of cine goers. 
 While <keyword id="2180" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arjun-Rampal">Arjun Rampal</keyword> had started shooting for the film in May this year, Ranbir was not able to join him on the sets because of his prior commitments, and began shooting only in September 2014. It is noteworthy that the makers had initially planned to release the film in second or third quarter of 2014 but because of one or the other reason, the movie kept getting delayed. 
 
Well, all that is a matter of the past now that the official trailer is out, and the movie is all set to hit screens on 13th February 2015. 
 
The first trailer of the movie was launched yesterday on the official YouTube channel of T-series, and in less than 24 hours, the trailer has managed to not only touch the golden mark of a million views, but also pass it gloriously with 14,78,556+ views and counting. 
 The trailer gives a glimpse into the plot of the action thriller, showing Arjun Rampal and <keyword id="6354417" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jacqueline-Fernandez">Jacqueline Fernandez</keyword> as movie directors Kabir Grewal and Ayesha Amir and Ranbir Kapoor in the title role of Roy, a thief. Rumours have it that Fernandez would be playing a double role in the movie, or else it would be one love triangle to watch out. 
 
The film has been primarily shot in Malaysia, and the trailer also shows the supporting cast of Anupam Kher, Victor Banerjee, Asif Basra and Rajit Kapur. Directed by debutant Vikramjeet Singh, the movie is expected to fare well at the box office, and can prove to be one of the biggest hits of the first quarter of 2015, if the director keeps his hands tight on the mystery.

That Entered Rs 100 Crore Club In 2013

Mumbai Film Festival is an annual international film festival organised by MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Image), a not-for-profit trust founded in 1997. The <keyword id="2558540" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="16th-Mumbai-Film-Festival">16th Mumbai Film Festival</keyword> was inaugurated yesterday, but the esteemed film festival didn’t see many stars at its opening ceremony. While it can’t be said that there was no major celebrity present at the opening, seeing the presence of <keyword id="6357861" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ranbir-kapoor">Ranbir Kapoor</keyword> and Akhsay Kumar, the opening was still not as star-studded as one would have expected it to be. This is all the way more ironical as a bunch of <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> celebrities was seen in the promotional video for the festival, only a few of whom actually came down to attend the opening. Hosted by actress and playwright Kalki Koechlin, the event saw the presence of celebrities like <keyword id="6366471" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aishwarya-Rai">Aishwarya Rai</keyword> Bachchan, Kiran Rao, Ayan Mukherji, Shyam Benegal, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani, <keyword id="2064" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Helen">Helen</keyword>, Subhash Ghai, Satish Kaushik, Ramesh and Kiran Sippy, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Huma Qureshi, Rahul Bose, Anurag Kashyap and Deepika Padukone. After the event was declared open by Mrs Bachchan, she gave the Lifetime Achievement Award to French actress <keyword id="151333" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Catherine-Deneuve">Catherine Deneuve</keyword>, followed by one to Helen, which was presented by <keyword id="2823" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Akshay-Kumar">Akshay Kumar</keyword>, who graciously held Helen's black and golden clutch as she gave her ‘Thank You’ speech. 
	 

	The week-long festival would see more than 175 movies, from 65 countries,. There also would be chat shows with celebrities from Bollywood and world cinema, like Deepika Padukone, Catherine Deneuve, Anurag Kashyap, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Arjun Kapoor, and Arturo Guilem.

After A Not-So-Star Studded Opening, Would The 16th Mumbai Film Festival Be A Hit?

If reports are to be believed, IIFA was a ride full of laughter, and the credit goes to the two actors who made an impressive stage debut, hosting the award ceremony for the first time. 
 
It’s no hidden fact that Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor are mischief personified. We all got a glimpse of this in the infamous AIB Roast that took place last year, where the actors sportingly got roasted by a team of stand-up comedians, leaving the audience in splits. Even though the YouTube video was banned and FIRs were registered against both the actors as well as several others, the actors didn’t budge from talking about the reactions for the roast even at the IIFA night. 
 
The heartthrobs, who first worked together in Gunday, even had no qualms admitting their horrible performances in the film; however, they did so in their own mischievous style in front of the heaving Putra stadium in Kuala Lumpur. 
 
They started out in a serious tone, admitting to an act that offended many people and involved a famous director (hinting at Karan Johar who was present with them on the AIB Roast). However, just when everyone thought that they are serious about the roast, the duo quickly apologized for doing Gunday, which was a major critical failure. 
 
Not only that, they also sang a parody on Aamir Khan, who was very vocal on christening AIB roast as 'violent' rather than 'funny'. The actors sang "Hume maaf karna, O Aamir Khan. Hum kabhi nhi lenge Reema Lagoo and Farida Jalal ka naam." they sang. Actually, they had offended senior actors like Farida Jalal in the infamous roast, which had led to several negative reactions from the industry and Aamir Khan as well. 
 Hinting big time at the alleged romance between Ranveer and actress <keyword id="598" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Deepika-Padukone">Deepika Padukone</keyword>, Arjun didn’t leave a chance to tease his friend as Deepika came on stage to receive her award for the Woman of the Year. 
 
Later, Ranveer Singh went down on his knees in front of Deepika and gave her a red heart-shaped balloon, as Arjun stood in the corner, giving his friend the space that he wanted.

Many actors, like Shahid Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor were at the receiving end of their jokes, because of Shahid’s alleged link-ups with every actress he has worked with, and Ranbir’s recent duds on Box office, like Roy and Bombay Velvet. 
 
Apparently, Ranveer also asked Shahid if he would be invited at the latter’s wedding, the preparations for which are underway, to which he got downright rejected. Shahid later went on to win the award for the best actor in a leading role, for his titular role in the multi-award winning movie Haider.

She was accompanied by her sister Isabelle Kaif. Hrithik was spotted with his girlfriend Saba Azad at the event. He wore a black half sleeves shirt, grey trousers, and a bucket hat. The movie, based on the mythological epic Ramayana, is expected to bring in opening day collections of ₹50-60 crore for the dubbed versions. The Hindi original is also expected to clock in ₹20 crore, predicts a research report by Elara Capital. As <a href="https://www.dnaindia.com/bollywood/report-adipurush-overseas-advance-booking-bulldozes-past-rs-6-crore-mark-prabhas-om-raut-kriti-sanon-saif-ali-khan-3047559">per media reports</a>, its advance bookings have been creating buzz, especially in overseas markets like Canada and Australia. If it’s able to manage a good opening, this big budget movie will be able to breach the ₹350- crore lifetime earnings mark – unlike Prabhas’ earlier movies Saaho and Radhe Shyam whose collections at ₹280 crore and ₹150 crore, respectively, were way below expectations “The film may surpass our estimates based on good content and word-of-mouth. Ticket prices are expected to be premium, around 20% higher than the average ticket prices on a pan-India level,” says Karan Taurani and Rounak Roy of Elara Capital. Adipurush will be released across India on June 16 in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. It also stars Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon, and is directed by Om Raut who had delivered the superhit movie, Tanaji. Small budget films not bringing in the moolah In spite of a few recent hits like Pathaan, The Kerala Story, Kantara and more, movie theatres have been struggling to bring back footfalls to match the pre-Covid levels. “Small and medium budget films continue to struggle as frequency of content becoming successful has dropped sharply in the North and South circuits,” the research report from Elara, which tracks PVR, says. Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan's latest release Zara Hatke Zara Bachke has minted ₹37.4 crore in its first week, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The movie, directed by Laxman Utekar, saw a decent opening, garnering ₹5.49 crore on the first day of its release. In spite of the positive surprise that the movie delivered, Elara believes that the momentum was driven by the Buy-One-Get-One-Free (BOGO) offer. It reduces distributor-producer share to approximately 30% from 50% earlier. “It makes film production economics unviable; while it is a good promotional activity to propel audiences back into the cinema halls to drive frequency, good and consistent content is the only big driver for improved occupancy levels,” say Taurani and Roy in their note. A slow start to FY24 The first quarter of FY24 has gotten off to a slow start in terms of box office, with no surprises except for The Kerala Story and Hollywood movie, Fast X. Hindi film box office collections for the first quarter are expected to be 20% lower than what they were pre-Covid. As compared to the same quarter last year, the drop is expected to be sharper at 30%, the research firm predicts. For context, the same time last year had hit movies like Rajamouli’s RRR, Karthik Aryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Yash’s KGF 2. The second quarter of FY24 is expected to see many big movie releases like Karthik Aryan’s Satyaprem, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, Ranveer Singh’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani, Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2, Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. “Q2FY24 may be the best quarter even if half of these films report a healthy box office collection. Woes persist for exhibitors as Hindi content recovery is important to drive advertising growth, which remains under pressure,” the Elara report opines. The number of Hindi films lined up for release however remains lower than pre-Covid levels — by 30-35%.

This is the view held by five brokerage firms — ICICI Securities/Direct, Motilal Oswal, Prabhudas Lilladher and ShareKhan. They believe that good movies can help them replicate the March success which came with superhits like the controversial Kashmir Files; Rajamouli’s RRR, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama Gangubai Kathiawadi, followed up by KGF 2 in April. “They witnessed a March — which was the best ever in the history, led by superlative performances of movies,” ICICI Direct said in its views on PVR and INOX both. The March footfalls made up for half of the Jan-March quarters footfalls in theaters. But both these companies need more than a good month to turn things around. A strong recovery in footfalls and sales of these listed theatre companies will be driven by ‘strong content slate lines’, as per ICICI Direct. If all goes well, it estimates that both these companies can cross their pre-covid earnings in the current financial year. These companies are in desperate need of a ‘recovery worthy’ movie releases. Aamir Khan has Lal Singh Chaddha, that’s a remake of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump. Salman Khan also promises another movie from his formulaic stable — called Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali. The King of Khans — Shah Rukh Khan too is releasing a movie after four years called Pathan. The fact that these Khan movies are ‘much-awaited’ can help drive footfalls. INOX CEO Alok Tandon spoke of an influx of good releases in FY23, in a conversation with Business Insider India. “2022 or financial year 2023 will be one of the best for the Indian film industry… I feel like we have some very, very strong lineup,” Tandon said. There was a big buzz around Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone-starrer 83 — which was based on the 1983 cricket world cup that India won. However, it disappointed movie distributors as it was declared a theatrical flop. Singh’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar too did not live up to its expectations. Kangana Ranaut’s Dhakkad, Akshay Kumar’s Bachchan Pandey, Prabhas’ Radhe Shyam too failed to impress the audiences. Apart from 83, all the other movies were released after India had overcome the third Covid-19 wave. Pushpa and Spider Man in the Hindi belt — both released in December along with 83 — were among the few movies that managed to do well despite Omicron fears. While the merger was announced last March, the record date for the scheme of amalgamation between the two multiplex operators happened in February 2023. The combined entity will start trading with the name PVR-INOX on exchanges in March 2023 and their combined financials would be reported from 4QFY23. The multiplex behemoth now owns more than 1,650 screens across 350 properties, in 110 cities. “PVR-INOX now controls 18% screen share (43% share in multiplex screens in India) and 30% box-office share (over 50% share of multiplex box office). The merged entity commands the highest multiplex market share in all key regions of India. PVR-INOX would become the fifth-largest listed multiplex chain globally by screen count with the highest number of admissions per screen (around 127,000 admissions/screen in 2019),” said a report by Kotak Institutional Equities. The combined entity aims to open 180-200 screens per year, across formats, in the next two years. “Capex per year would be ₹8-8.5 billion (₹800-850 crore). Over 40% new screen openings will come from the South as it remains underpenetrated,” said the report. While merged entity gains the lion’s share, real issue still remains poor content While the merged entity can definitely achieve bigger goals, analysts believe the real issue still remains poor content leading to flop movies on screen. “The management has guided for annual synergy benefits of ₹2.25 billion (₹225 crore) at the EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) level in the next 12-24 months,” said a report by Kotak Institutional Equities. Analysts say that the merged entity has no real competitor and should remain focused on strengthening its position at the cost of single-screen theatres and smaller chains. Yet, there are challenges that all multiplexes will face bringing in the mega footfalls. For one, the Hindi cinema industry itself is facing the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/its-not-bollywood-films-its-the-superstars-that-people-seem-to-be-tired-of/articleshow/92382077.cms">shifting trend and migration of audiences to South movies</a> which captured audiences with larger-than-life characters. Rapid adoption of OTT, proliferation of social media and an active ‘Boycott Bollywood’ campaign and higher ticket prices have impacted footfalls in theatres, say analysts at Emkay Global. “While focus of the merged entity now shifts to realising synergies, the crucial issue of footfall recovery remains moot. Post-Covid, we have witnessed a clear dichotomy in box-office performance, with a high proportion of movies turning out to be duds; we believe the main culprit is the sub-par content quality, punctured by the weak critic and audience reviews,” said a report by Emkay Global. Not star power, alone It’s because of the increasing Southern push that <keyword id="4568700" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PVR-INOX" source="Orion">PVR Inox</keyword> are planning to boost the addition of new cinemas there. “With Bollywood content not up to the mark, footfalls have not seen a meaningful uptick post Covid. Only select movies with differentiated offerings have managed to taste success at the box office. As we have emphasised in the past too, Bollywood’s recovery is critical to box-office collections, with regional and Hollywood contribution being only sporadic in nature,” said the report. Bollywood continues to witness poor movie performance with most movies including Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Goodbye and Uunchai, Akshay Kumar’s Ram Setu and Ranveer Singh’s Cirkus not meeting expectations except for Drishyam 2 and Pathaan. “Going ahead too, we believe that star power alone cannot drive collections, if there is no differentiating factor in the movie,” said the Emkay Global report. In Q3 FY23, only one Bollywood movie i.e Drishyam 2 managed to break the ₹100 crore box office barrier. “CY22 has been one of the worst years for Bollywood, with very few movies finding traction. A mere 7% of the major movies that were released in the CY21/22 managed to recover their investment and yielded some profit. Prior to Covid, this was close to 30%, with more than 40% of movies doing well in CY19,” said a report by Emkay. While Inox-PVR have a bigger screen presence, they need what it takes to bring in audiences — better movies, bigger hits from Bollywood and Hollywood alike – in addition to South superhits. PVR-INOX, now fifth largest listed multiplex chain globally, awaits good movies

Whenever the duo of <keyword id="6357912" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="amitabh-bachchan">Amitabh Bachchan</keyword> and Balki (short and more popular name of R Balakrishnan) come together, they are expected to create a magic on the screen. Cheeni Kum and Paa were testimonials of the fact. It was expected that their latest release together, <keyword id="2268710" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="shamitabh">Shamitabh</keyword>, will take this jodi to all new heights. 
 
However, the box office reports of this weekend share a different story. As per koimoi.com, the movie managed a mere 30% opening, which is not what we would expect from a movie that has Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role. The report further states that in the first weekend, the movie managed to collect a modest Rs 13 crore. The movie has been made <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamitabh">with a budget</a> of Rs 40 crore and also stars Akshara Haasan. 
 It is noteworthy that last weeks’ releases – <keyword id="2528710" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hawaizaada">Hawaizaada</keyword> and <keyword id="1119087" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Khamoshiyan">Khamoshiyan</keyword> – too could not cash register ringing. However, Baby, which is currently in its third week, is still holding to its ground. The movie has managed to collect around Rs 89.60 crore from ticket sales in India. It may not be able to make its presence felt in the Rs 100-crore club, but it has still managed to cover good ground so far. 
 Now our eyes are on Roy, which stars <keyword id="2180" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arjun-Rampal">Arjun Rampal</keyword>, Jacqueline Fernandez and Ranbir Kapoor in the leading roles. As the movie is releasing just before Valentine’s Day, we expect it to have a good opening, which might end the current dry spell of Bollywood. The songs of this movie are already getting noticed, so that should be another plus for this movie.

Box office report of Shamitabh

June is at the fag end and we almost have a mid-year report card of Bollywood. Though the year started on a dismal note, it picked up towards May and June. 
 
This year, January was like a drought month and even movies starring big names did not interest the audience. As Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha starrer-'Tevar'- failed to take off, even the Horrex (horror + sex) formula did not work out for ‘Alone’ and ‘Khamoshiyan’. 
 
Other movies that released in January and failed to make a mark included Sonam Kapoor-starrer ‘Dolly Ki Doli’, 'Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene', ‘Crazy Cukkad Family’, ‘Hawaizaada’ among others. 
 
The only respite that the Bollywood lovers got was from Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’, which also became the first movie of 2015 to enter the Rs 100 crore club. 
 
But the jinx did not end in January as February continued to bring more bad news for the industry. 
 
The big shocker came in the form of ‘Shamitabh’. The movie, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush, was directed by R Balki, the maker who has given us movies like Pa and Cheeni Kum. 
 
Later in the month, ‘Roy’ released, which recorded a good start but by weekend the movie fizzled out. Most trade pundits pegged the crucial India-Pakistan match at the World Cup as the reason for the drop of sales on Sunday but the movie could not recover much post this phase also because of negative word of mouth. 
 
Thankfully, later in the same month we had movies like ‘Badlapur’ and ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’. Both managed to gather decent collections at the Box Office. In fact, ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ was a complete surprise package and managed to pull crowds even in its third week . 
 
March threw a mixed bag as Anushka Sharma starrer 'NH-10' received critical acclaim. April again was a dry month as Bollywood had nothing to offer that could have clicked with the Bolly buffs. 
 
However, Bollywood saw a turnaround in May. It started on a high note with Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Gabbar is Back’, which went to collect Rs 86.55 crore at the Box Office. This was followed by Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan’s 'Piku', which struck a right chord with the audience and collected Rs 111 crore worldwide. 
 
Later in the month, Kangana Ranaut wowed the audience with her spectacular acting in ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’. As per reports, the movie managed to collect Rs 190.87 crore worldwide. Given that the movie was made with Rs 31 crore budget, it stood out and is the most profitable movie of 2015 till date. 
 
But, the disappointment came from ‘Bombay Velvet’. Everybody had high hopes from Ranbir Kapoor’s flick but it fell flat. 
 
The momentum seems to continue with ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ and ‘ABCD 2’. ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ has managed Rs 37.05 crore in the first weekend and is holding the fort well. Also ABCD 2, sequel of ABCD, managed to get the biggest opening for 2015 and continues to do a good business over the week. 
 
The later half will see a slew of big- starrer movies such as Salman Khan starrer ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, Vikas Bahl of Queen fame’s ‘Shaandaar’, ‘Singh is Bling’ featuring Akshay Kumar, Nikhil Advani’s ‘Katti Batti’, Aishwarya Rai’s comeback movie ‘Jazbaa’ and also ‘Dilwale’ in which fans will see Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol paired together. In addition, there will also be a third installment of ‘Hate Story’, ‘Hera Pheri’ and ‘Kya Kool Hai Hum’ to look forward to. 
 
Commenting on the movie sentiment of 2015, Komal Nahata, Trade Analyst shared, “It has been a good 2015 so far. Sure there were some upsets in the start of the year but May has been extremely kind and the rest of the year looks really promising." 
 
We hope that the forthcoming movies get the cash ringer buzzing for Bollywood and we continue to see some entertaining movies in the latter half of the year.
