Japanese manufacturer, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Yamaha+Motor+Company+Ltd">Yamaha Motor Company Ltd</a>, is going to commission its third unit in Chennai with a capacity to produce 4,50,000 <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=two-wheelers">two-wheelers</a>. The new unit will employ 1,800 people. 
 
The Japanese company has invested around Rs 1,500 crore to build the manufacturing unit in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tamil+Nadu">Tamil Nadu</a>, reported the Economic Times. 
 
The trial production has already started. 
 Yamaha Motor India vice-president for sales and marketing <keyword id="143815" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Roy-Kurian">Roy Kurian</keyword> said that the company would expand the plant's capacity to 1.8 million units by 2018. 
 
The two existing units of the company has a capacity to produce one million two-wheelers a year and the new plant is part of its long-term growth plans, both in terms of local sales and exports. 
 
The company is looking to add 1,00,000 units to exports, taking the number to 2,50,000 lakh this year. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Domestic+sales+">Domestic sales</a> are expected to reach 6,30,000 units in 2015 from 5,60,000 last year. 
 The company has an annual sales target of 1 million units by 2017 and is hopeful of achieving the long-desired 10% <keyword id="34527" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="market-share">market share</keyword> in 2018. 
 
India is the third-largest market for Yamaha based on volume, behind <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Indonesia+">Indonesia</a> and <keyword id="13486" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Vietnam">Vietnam</keyword>. Next year, it expects India to become the No. 2 market for the company.

"The new Saluto is aimed to provide safer and more controlled biking experience for the city traffic conditions," Yamaha Motor India Sales Vice President - Sales and Marketing <keyword id="143815" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Roy-Kurian">Roy Kurian</keyword> said. 

	The new variant of the bike, priced at Rs. 54,500, is intended to expand the company's sales in the 125cc segment, he added.
 

	"We are again very bullish on the new product which we believe will help us maintain the strong growth numbers we have witnessed in the last few years," Kurian said.

	 Beginning the year with a bang, two-wheeler maker <keyword id="203832" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yamaha-Motor-India">Yamaha Motor India</keyword> has clocked in a growth of 21% in <keyword id="184010" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-sales">domestic sales</keyword> in January 2015 over last year. The company has attributed the growth to its slew of customer-centric initiatives and its product portfolio. 
	 
	“The incessant growth reinforces our belief in our business and strategic outlook. We are happy with our gradual growth and are extremely positive about 2015 with our new launches and innovative customers connect programs. Leveraging on the same, we will garner major sales and will be able to post some record numbers in the coming months. Upbeat about the future, we are eager to replicate and improve upon our last year’s achievements in 2015 too,” said Roy Kurian, vice president, sales and marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. 
	 
	The company registered a domestic sale of 39,309 units in January 2015 against 32,534 units in the corresponding period in 2014. It should be noted that the company had sold 44,602 unit in December 2014 over 39,777 units in the same period in 2013.

 "Scooters and premium motorcycles are driving growth in the domestic two-wheeler market. With the FZ25 we are looking at providing an option to young urban riders who were earlier upgrading to other brands,” Roy Kurian, vice-president (sales &amp; marketing), <keyword id="203832" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yamaha-Motor-India">Yamaha Motor India</keyword>, told ET. 
 
The beast is powered on the new BSIV compliant oil-cooled 249 cc single-cylinder fuel-injected engine and it pumps out 20.6 bhp of power at 8000 rpm and 20 Nm at 6000 rpm. The new features includes telescopic front forks and a monoshock suspension setup at the rear. Braking performance comes from 282 mm front and 257 mm rear <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=disc+brakes&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">disc brakes</a>, while you also get full LED headlamps along and tail lights along with AHO (Automatic headlamp on). However, the bike doesn’t sports <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ABS&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">ABS</a>. Yamaha returns a claimed fuel efficiency of 43 kmpl on the bike that comes courtesy of the BlueCore technology. 
 
The FZ25 comes in three colours - Ballistic Blue, Warrior White and Knight Black. The street-fighter comes equipped with an LCD instrument cluster, while the design looks like that of a beefed up FZ albeit with much more character and charm. The 250 cc bike gets naked sporty looking split seats, while the wheels are inspired by the bigger MT series of bikes and rides on 100/80 section front as well as 140/70 section rear 17-inch tyres. 
 
Yamaha, with its new beast is planning on aiming at young urban Indians in their 20s and early 30s which come from high income families and reside mostly in metroes. 
 
The company also said that bike is designed for multiple uses, both for commuter and leisure purposes.

 Although thanks to Maruti Suzuki's market leadership in the car segment, India has been topping Suzuki's global markets both in terms of volumes as well as revenues, now the situation is being replicated by other Japanese biggies like Yamaha, Honda and Toyota as India moves up the global pecking order. The <keyword id="47445" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-market">Indian market</keyword> now ranks among the top five markets globally for almost all the top Japanese automobile brands, according to an Economic Times report. 
 Take Honda Cars India, the four-wheeler local subsidiary of <keyword id="189945" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Honda-Motor-Corp-">Honda Motor Corp.</keyword> Thanks to some top-gear growth in the last two years, India now ranks as Honda's fourth biggest market by volumes. Said Jnaneswar Sen, senior vice-president, marketing &amp; sales, Honda Cars India: "India ranks after the top three markets of US, China and Japan globally thanks to our good growth run for the past two years. HCI clocked 41% growth 2014-15 selling 1.89 lakh units up from 1.34 lakh units the year before. In 2013-14, we clocked a growth of 83% year-on-year. Leaving out the luxury cars, Honda is the fastest growing car brand in India. Our current market share in India is over 7%." 
 
Honda's top-gear run has prompted the Japanese car maker to expand capacity at its second plant in Rajasthan from 1.2 lakh units to 1.8 lakh units. "Our target is to sell 3 lakh units in India by 2016-17." 
Ditto for fellow Japanese brand Yamaha which now pegs India just after its global top market Indonesia. Said Roy Kurian, VP-marketing and sales, Yamaha Motor India: "India will become Yamaha's second largest volume market after Indonesia by year-end though there will be quite a large gap between the No1 and No2 markets. Earlier Vietnam used to be our second largest market but that is now expected to slide to No3 in the pecking order." Yamaha is already adding another 1.8 million units (in phases) thanks to its new plant in Chennai. Along with its existing plant in Surajpur, the fresh capacity will take Yamaha's total two-wheeler production in India to nearly 3 million units. 
 
For Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Thailand, Indonesia and India comprise the troika of "significant markets" in the Asia Pacific region. "India stands pretty tall in Toyota's gameplan and is the third market after China and US in terms of importance," said Shekar Viswanathan, vice-chairman and whole-time direct, Toyota Kirloskar Motor told ET. 
 Even relative newcomers like <keyword id="46283" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Nissan">Nissan</keyword> are stepping on the gas for some India action. Said Arun Malhotra, MD, Nissan Motor India: "India is one of the largest hubs for the investment that the Renault-Nissan Alliance has envisaged for a very competitive market like India. Our manufacturing facility is the largest that the Alliance has developed so far across the world with a production capacity 480,000 units.
