Last week, Beats by Dre released <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/beats-world-cup-commercial-2014-6" target="_blank">a wild 5-minute commercial</a> featuring a ton of celebrities (Lebron, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne), and pro soccer players preparing for the World Cup in Beats headphones.
Today, Nike released its own 5-minute commercial, "The Last Game." The ad features animated versions of Cristiano Ronaldo, Tim Howard, Wayne Rooney, and many other soccer stars facing off against indestructible soccer-playing clones, all of whom are donning bowl-cuts. If Beats by Dre's commercial felt inspired by Beyoncé and Jay Z's <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iy1rumvo9xc">"Run,"</a> Nike's feels more like Despicable Me. 
The commercial begins with a villain scientist unveiling clone versions of the best soccer players alive. The only difference is the clones - unlike their human counterparts - take no risks, supposedly making them better players.

Nike Releases 5-Minute World Cup Commercial Featuring Animated Ronaldo, Neymar, And Rooney

Two extremes of the World Cup frenzy in football-crazy <keyword id="28504" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kerala" source="Orion">Kerala</keyword> were seen as some fans celebrated the mega sporting event by buying a house to watch it and taking a golden statue of the late Diego <keyword id="6399005" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="maradona" source="Orion">Maradona</keyword> to <keyword id="6355203" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="qatar" source="Orion">Qatar</keyword>, while a few others got into a clash with police who objected to blocking a road by their celebratory procession. In Palakkad, a huge procession of football fans on Sunday donning jerseys of various teams got into an argument with the police personnel over the traffic movement being blocked by their celebrations and it led to stones being pelted against the officers and the police responding with a lathi charge to disperse the crowd. Two policemen were injured in the stone pelting, an officer from Palakkad Town North police station said and added that an FIR was lodged the same day and on Monday 22 persons were arrested in the case. "They will be produced in court today," the officer said. He said there was no permission obtained for carrying out the procession which was using unauthorised sound and speaker systems to play music and that coupled with the large number of fans led to the road being blocked and traffic movement disrupted. When the procession organisers were asked by police to move away in view of the road being blocked, they got into an argument with the officers and then started pelting stones. "Two officers were injured. Their health is stable now," he said. On the flip side, a prominent Kerala-based businessman -- Boby Chemmanur -- decided to travel to Qatar with a golden statue of Maradona which commemorates the legendary footballer's 'Hand of God' goal. His journey, along with a group of persons from all walks of life, began on Monday afternoon from Thiruvananthapuram and it is expected to traverse through Kerala, Karnataka and <keyword id="826" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="goa" source="Orion">Goa</keyword> to reach Mumbai from where they will fly to Qatar. The event was inaugurated by Kerala Tourism Minister P A Muhammed Riyas. Meanwhile, in Kochi's Kangarappady area, 17 friends and football fans together bought a house, for Rs 23 lakh, where they can watch the 2022 World Cup. "However, it would be utilised for much more than that as we plan to make it a space where future generations can come and play games, watch sports, read books, etc.," Haris Kassim, one of the groups of 17, told PTI. "It will be open to all. We bought the house a month back. We have already put in place some games, like carrom, that people coming here can play. The house is presently registered in our name, but we will ensure it is accessible to all," he added. The World Cup is dominating the Super Bowl - in terms of time spent with ads.
According to the latest stats from YouTube, people all over the world have watched more than 1.2 billion minutes of World Cup ads. That's four times as many minutes as people spent watching Super Bowl ads.
Nike Football has claimed three of the top ten spots for most watched YouTube videos. Ads for Nike's "Risk Everything" campaign are packed with famous soccer players including Nike-sponsored names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Neymar, Tim Howard, and Gerard Pique.
But Nike isn't the only brand turning to the stars for support.
Eight of the top ten spots feature soccer stars. Samsung's top ad, "The Training," showcases Landon Donovan, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo, among others, while Adidas looked to David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Luis Suarez, and Dani Alves for its campaign. 
One thing to consider is the length of many of these spots. According to Google, the average length of the top ten ads is about three minutes, while the average length of Super Bowl ads was one minute. 
Unlike the Super Bowl, where commercial breaks are frequent, <keyword id="35666" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="advertising">advertising</keyword> spots are limited during World Cup matches because commercial breaks only happen at halftime. By increasing the length of these ads and posting them online, brands have turned their advertisements into viral sensations that tell more elaborate, engaging stories and boost minutes spent watching the ads.
This year's World Cup campaigns are being watched on YouTube all over the world as well. Brazil brings in the most YouTube views at 61 million while the U.S. trails behind at number two with 57 million views, followed by Mexico with 50 million views.

<keyword id="57149" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="FIFA">FIFA</keyword> <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ballon-dor-ceremony-pictures-2013-1">announced its "World XI" yesterday in Zurich</a>.
It's basically <a href="http://www.fifa.com/ballondor/news/newsid=1981505/">a paper All-Star team</a> (they don't play any games or anything) that gives you an idea of who the best player at each position was in 2012.
The 11 players on this years team come from just three professional teams, all of which are, surprisingly, part of Spain's La Liga.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso, Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, and Iker Casillas play for Real Madrid. Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Gerard Pique, and Dani Alves play for Barcelona. And Radamel Falcao plays for Atletico Madrid.

Still, this FIFA XI reflects the fact that Spain is the dominant cultural force in the soccer world right now.
The style played by Barcelona and the Spanish national team — a possession-based, passing game — is now considered the superior tactical philosophy in the sport. Playing "like Spain" has become synonymous with "playing well."
The best national team in the world (Spain, which won the last World Cup and European Championship), the best club team in the world (widely considered to be Barcelona), and the best player in the world (Messi) are all found in Spain.
All 11 of these guys play professionally in Spain, and seven of them play for the Spanish national team.
