<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="174525" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Lance-Bass">Lance Bass</keyword> commented on former "Bachelor" star <keyword id="8938789" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="colton-underwood">Colton Underwood</keyword>'s <keyword id="2267329" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="coming-out">coming out</keyword>.</li><li>Bass said Underwood may get backlash from some who "don't like the fact that he came out this way."</li><li>Underwood came out on "Good Morning America" and secured a Netflix series detailing his experience. </li></ul><p>Lance Bass explained why he expects former "Bachelor" star Colton Underwood to receive some backlash from the <keyword id="729067" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="LGBTQ">LGBTQ</keyword> community <a href="https://www.insider.com/colton-underwood-shouldnt-be-the-first-gay-bachelor-2021-4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">after coming out. </a></p><p>The former <a href="https://www.insider.com/then-and-now-2000s-boy-bands-members" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NSYNC</a> singer on Thursday appeared on<a href="https://www.iheart.com/podcast/139-the-ben-and-ashley-28165481/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> "The Ben &amp; Ashley I Almost Famous" </a><keyword id="1590914" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Podcast">podcast</keyword> for a candid conversation about Underwood and sexuality. </p><p>Underwood announced during a "<a href="https://twitter.com/GMA/status/1382296967250776065">Good Morning America</a>" interview with Robin Roberts <a href="https://www.insider.com/colton-underwood-bachelor-star-gay-comes-out-good-morning-america-2021-4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">that he has come out as gay.</a> Soon after, <a href="https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/colton-underwood-netflix-reality-show-gay-the-bachelor-1234950986/">Variety</a> reported that Underwood, 29, would return to reality TV with a Netflix series detailing "his life publicly as a gay man." </p><p>Bass said the series is "only going to help the community," but cautioned that Underwood could receive some pushback. </p><p>"He definitely going to get a lot of backlash from the community at first," said Bass, 41. "Not the majority, but there is a small percentage of the community that's just gonna not like the fact that he came out this way, that he's monetizing the experience."</p><p>Bass first publicly came out as gay in 2006 when he appeared as the cover story for <a href="https://people.com/celebrity/lance-bass-im-gay-2/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People's July issue</a> that year. He later revealed that <a href="https://www.insider.com/lance-bass-britney-spears-coming-out-wedding-night-wwhl-video-2019-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">he came out to Britney Spears</a> at least two years earlier. </p><div type="image" title="NSYNC " height="1292" width="2584" msid="82132302" hostid="261"></div><p>"They don't know what the issues are because they've been so separated from that on purpose. So when someone comes out as a public figure, so many people immediately go, "It's too late." They don't like to support it because they don't feel like you know what you're talking about yet," Bass said during the podcast. "But I don't think Colton is trying to lead that charge of trying to be the spokesperson for the LGBTQ community." </p><p>Bass also advised Underwood to "listen." </p><p>"That's all you need to do right now, is just listen to the community, listen to everyone around you," Bass said. "Educate yourself, and then you'll naturally find where you belong in this community. But the best thing to do right now is sit back, listen and learn."</p><p>During his interview on "Good Morning America," Underwood said that he questioned his sexuality often throughout his adolescence and early adulthood. </p><p>"I've ran from myself for a long time," said Underwood. "I've hated myself for a long time. I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it, and the next step in all of this was sort of letting people know. I'm still nervous. It's been a journey for sure." </p><p>Underwood admitted that he's "emotional," but "I'm emotional in such a good, happy, positive way. I'm the happiest and healthiest that I've ever been in my life, and that means the world to me." </p>

Started in 2012, this Siliguri-based e-tailer has now secured about Rs 40 crore ($6 million) in Series A funding from a clutch of <keyword id="6357097" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="venture-capital">venture capital</keyword> firms, which includes JAFCO Asia, Keystone Group and <keyword id="2779742" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dragoneer-Investment">Dragoneer Investment</keyword> reveals an ET report.<br />

According to Kushal Dugar, Teabox founder, "We are looking to invest in the cold storage facilities in close proximity to the plantations in Darjeeling, Guwahati and Nilgiri - the three prime tea plantation regions in the country ," Dugar told ET. And in the next two months, Teabix plans to hire 40 to 60 people, he revealed.<br />

Teabox has a separate technology and marketing team based in Bengaluru, which helps the e-tailer to carry out a smooth selling process online to cater its customers in 75 countries. This online tea seller sources tea from more than 200 plantations in India, the financial daily added.<br />

"Teabox's disruptive business model is highly scalable and allows complete control of the customer experience. JAFCO's expertise across different markets will add significant value to Teabox in the coming months," Supriya Singh, an associate director at JAFCO, told ET.<br />
<br /> American billionaire <keyword id="2780263" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Robert-M-Bass">Robert M Bass</keyword>, chairman of Aerion Corporation which is an American aerospace, also played a major role in this funding. He said, "I am a longtime tea drinker and first discovered Teabox as a customer. Many news organizations projected that Newsom defeated the recall effort less than an hour after polls closed because of a strong Democratic turnout combined with a large number of Democratic mail-in votes. The conservative radio host Larry Elder, the top Republican in the race, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/california-recall/2021/09/14/068d35b6-15a0-11ec-b8c6-b166729f2f3b_story.html">conceded shortly after 1 a.m. </a>(For what it's worth, former President Donald Trump is once again <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-claims-california-recall-election-rigged-2021-9">raising baseless allegations of fraud</a>.)</p><p><strong>Top takeaways from the results:</strong></p><p><strong>California is still California: </strong>Democrats have dominated statewide elections for years, including a 29-point romp by Joe Biden in November. Newsom's approval rating was dinged, but he was never close to the anemic mid-20s that Gov. Gray Davis had before he was ousted by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2003. As FiveThirtyEight points out, <a href="https://fivethirtyeight.com/live-blog/california-recall-election-newsom/">California has grown only more liberal since then</a>.</p><p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/california-governor-gavin-newsom-recall-election-live-results-2021-9"><div type="image" title="A California county map showing a majority opposed to recalling Gov. Gavin Newsom." height="821" width="1095" msid="86227960" hostid="261"></div></a></p><p><strong>Don't discount how disastrous Elder was: </strong>Republicans had a more establishment-friendly alternative in Kevin Faulconer, a former San Diego mayor. Instead, they elevated Elder, who as one would expect from a talk-radio host spent decades producing the kind of inflammatory statements that make opponents giddy.</p><ul><li><strong>Democrats were successful in making the race about Elder and the GOP: </strong>Newsom and his allies were all too happy to <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/now/larry-elder-argues-slave-owners-000601872.html">point out</a> many of his <a href="https://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article253592444.html">past</a> comments that <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/newsletter/2021-08-24/larry-elder-california-recall-race-past-essential-california">aged poorly for a blue state</a>. On top of that, Elder faced troubling allegations that he <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2021/08/19/elders-ex-fiancee-said-he-brandished-a-gun-at-her-506286">brandished a gun at his ex-fiancée</a>, a claim he denies.</li></ul><p><strong>It's still the pandemic: </strong>Newsom's own blunder of attending a private dinner maskless at an expensive restaurant provided the spark to a recall effort that had previously floundered. But <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2021-recall-elections/california-governor-results">exit polls</a> indicate that Californians still support some strict pandemic policies. In particular, 70% of respondents supported requiring masks for students in schools and 63% considered getting vaccinated for COVID-19 to be more of a "public-health responsibility" than a "personal choice."</p><ul><li><strong>Key quote: </strong>"<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/california-recall-newsom-comments-trumpism-is-not-defeated-governor-2021-9">We said yes to science, we said yes to vaccines, we said yes to ending this pandemic</a>," Newsom said during his brief victory speech.</li></ul><p><strong>Expect more calls to change the recall process: </strong>Newsom's victory means the state will have spent $276 million on a failed recall effort just over a year before voters are set to head to the polls for the actual gubernatorial election. Only 19 states, including California, allow recall elections. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/calls-for-reform-rise-as-gavin-newsom-skirts-recall-2021-9">Rep. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was said to be so worried about Trump that he called his Chinese counterpart, Gen. Li Zuocheng, both before and after the 2020 election to assure him the US would not launch an attack, according to a new book by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa. In it, Myers talks to Led Zeppelin member Jimmy Page and collaborators about the making of one of the band's hits that changed rock history, "Whole Lotta Love." Released in November 1969, the song helped kick off a wave of more experimental rock on radio.</em></p><p>In 1968, record companies were becoming more comfortable letting unproven rock bands experiment on albums. In prior years, only seasoned musicians and proven moneymakers like the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan had that opportunity. The rest had to focus on tightly controlled singles, with albums functioning merely as collections of those short records. Starting in 1968, the album began to be viewed by a growing number of labels as a separate creative platform for rock bands, particularly those with electric guitarists who could wail on longer solos. There were two reasons for the abrupt shift. First, the rising sales of stereo systems were creating an appetite for rock albums. Second, a growing number of stereo FM radio stations were promoting rock albums as a more sophisticated and better-sounding format than pop singles.</p><p>Unveiled in the early 1930s, FM radio didn't catch on until the early 1960s. Up till then, most U.S. radio manufacturers didn't bother adding the FM band on their units, since consumers were perfectly content with AM radio. But when car companies began offering the FM band on the radios of new models in the early 1960s, AM stations started investing in FM operations. As FM activity picked up, the Federal Communications Commission insisted in 1964 that FM stations be devoted to original programming, not the duplication of AM broadcasts. The turning point for FM radio came in the late 1960s, when Japan began exporting inexpensive stereo components to the U.S. Among the electronics arriving in stores were solid-state integrated stereo receivers that featured both AM and FM radio bands. The availability of FM radio on many new stereo systems led to the rise of stereo stores and the proliferation of FM radio stations, particularly near college campuses. But since FM radio was so new in 1968, stations had trouble attracting advertisers, leaving a glut of airtime to fill. Many stations allowed program hosts to play whatever they wished, including long album tracks and even entire sides.</p><p>By 1969, with the consumer market for rock and soul albums expanding rapidly, record companies invested in bands that could fill the longer format imaginatively. One group that benefited from the shift was Led Zeppelin. After signing a major deal with Atlantic Records, the British band toured the U.S. in late 1968 and early '69 before releasing Led Zeppelin, its first album. The band then embarked on two more arduous North American tours in 1969, releasing Led Zeppelin II in October. The album opened with "Whole Lotta Love," a song that revolutionized the sound of the rock vocal and electric guitar. The album went to No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart for seven weeks. After "Whole Lotta Love" was released as a single in November 1969, it reached No. 4 on Billboard's pop chart, and in 2007 it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.</p><h2>Interviews with JIMMY PAGE (Led Zeppelin guitarist and cowriter), GEORGE CHKIANTZ (recording engineer), and EDDIE KRAMER (final-mix engineer)</h2><p><strong>JIMMY PAGE:</strong> I came up with the guitar riff for "Whole Lotta Love" in the summer of 1968, on my houseboat along the Thames in Pangbourne, England. I suppose my early love for big intros by rockabilly guitarists was an inspiration, but as soon as I developed the riff, I knew it was strong enough to drive the entire song, not just open it. When I played the riff for the band in my living room several weeks later during rehearsals for our first album, the excitement was immediate and collective. We felt the riff was addictive, like a forbidden thing.</p><p>By January 1969, we cracked America wide open with the release of our first album and our first U.S. tour. I had this avant-garde master plan for "Whole Lotta Love" and could hear the construction coming together in my head. From the start, I didn't want "Whole Lotta Love" - or any of our songs - to be a single. I had been a session musician since the early 1960s, as had [bassist] John Paul Jones. We had recorded on hundreds of singles and hated the abbreviated, canned format. I also knew that stereo FM radio was emerging in America and playing albums. I wanted to develop our songs emotionally, beyond just lengthy solos.</p><p>Our label, Atlantic Records, got it, but there was really very little risk on their end. John Paul and I knew our way around a recording studio, so we weren't going to waste studio time or produce something that wasn't cohesive. More important, I wanted to expand our approach to ensure that our album wouldn't be chopped up into singles for AM radio. To make sure that didn't happen, I produced "Whole Lotta Love" - and our entire second album - as an uneditable expression, a work that had to be aired on stereo FM to make sense.</p><p>During the band's rehearsals in early '69 for our second album, "Whole Lotta Love" sounded strong enough to open it, so I wanted to record the song first. In April, we went into London's Olympic Studios and cut "Whole Lotta Love" with engineer George Chkiantz, who had recorded Jimi Hendrix there.</p><p><strong>GEORGE CHKIANTZ:</strong> There were two studios at Olympic - one large and one small. Management had installed our sixteen-track recorder in the small one with hopes of luring rock bands in there and away from the larger sixty-by-forty-foot space with twenty-eight-foot ceilings, where we recorded mostly classical works and film scores. But Jimmy chose the larger one - even though it had only an eight-track recorder. He wanted the extra space so the drums could be miked properly for stereo.</p><p>I was a relative novice then, and what Jimmy wanted was a stretch, given Olympic's traditional way of miking drums. So I invented a new way. I didn't mike the snare, since that would have reduced the size and space of the drum sound. Instead, I used a stereo mike on an eight-foot boom above the drums, along with two distant side mikes to give the tom-toms edge, and a huge AKG D30 mike positioned about two feet from the bass drum. Jimmy knew that high-end mikes didn't have to be up against an instrument to maximize the sound.</p><p><strong>PAGE:</strong> For the song to work as this panoramic audio experience, I needed Bonzo [drummer John Bonham] to really stand out, so that every stick stroke sounded clear and you could really feel them. If the drums were recorded just right, we could lay in everything else.</p><p><strong>CHKIANTZ:</strong> To make the drums sound impressive, I placed them on a platform about one and a half feet off the floor. The floor at Olympic was made of wood, not cement, which meant I needed to keep any drum movement from transmitting rumble across the wood floor to other microphones. When we began taping, [lead singer] Robert Plant sang in the studio, but eventually he moved to the vocal booth to better isolate his voice. At one point, Jimmy began fooling around with a theremin [an electronic instrument] that he brought to the studio. We worked it in when the song shifted into a weird, free form.</p><p><strong>PAGE:</strong> The theremin's eerie sound begged for more experimentation. To get my guitar to sound surreal, I detuned it and pulled on the strings for a far-out effect. I was playing a Sunburst 1958 Les Paul Standard guitar I had bought from [James Gang guitarist] Joe Walsh in San Francisco when we were out there on tour. The Standard had this tonal versatility, allowing me to get a blistering high pitch. Robert's vocal was just as extreme. He kept gaining confi-<br />dence during the session and gave it everything he had. His vocals, like my solos, were about performance. He was pushing to see what he could get out of himself. We were performing for each other, almost competitively.</p><p>When we toured the U.S. again in May and June, we took the rough-mix tapes along with us in a large trunk. In Los Angeles, we'd work at studios like Mirror, Mystic, and A&amp;M to overdub material. In New York, we worked at Mayfair, Groove, and Juggy studios. Today, digital files are e-mailed all over the place, but back then you actually had to take your tapes if you wanted to work on the road.</p><p>When we were ready to mix all the songs for the album, I wanted Eddie Kramer to do it. Eddie had engineered several of the album's songs from scratch in London, and he had worked with us in the American studios. He also had engineered Jimi Hendrix's albums. But by the summer Eddie had relocated to the States, so when we were in New York in August, we called him. "Whole Lotta Love" was all there on tape, but it needed a big, polished mix for the album.</p><p><strong>EDDIE KRAMER:</strong> The first time I heard "Whole Lotta Love" was in August '69, when Jimmy and I started working on the album's final mix at New York's A&amp;R Recording. Jimmy and I had first met in 1964, when he was playing on the Kinks' first album [Kinks] at Pye Studios and I was the assistant engineer. I also had heard Led Zeppelin early on in '68, when John Paul Jones played me an acetate of Led Zeppelin's first album, before it was released. I was blown away - it sounded so hard and heavy.</p><p>In New York, the recording console at A&amp;R was fairly primitive. It had only twelve channels, with old-fashioned rotary dials to control track levels instead of sliding faders, and there were just two pan pots [control knobs] to send the sound from left to right channels. But as Jimmy and I listened to the mix, something unexpected came up.</p><p>At the point where the song breaks and Robert slowly wails, "Way down inside . . . woman . . . you need . . . love," Jimmy and I heard this faint voice singing the lyric before Robert did on the master vocal track. Apparently Robert had done two different vocals, recording them on two different tracks. Even when I turned the volume down all the way on the track that we didn't want, his powerful voice was bleeding through the console and onto the master.</p><p>Some people today still think the faint voice was a pre-echo, that we added it on purpose for effect. It wasn't-it was an accident. Once Jimmy and I realized we had to live with it on the master, I looked at Jimmy, he looked at me, and we both reached for the reverb knob at the same time and cracked up laughing. Our instincts were the same-to douse the faint, intruding voice in reverb so it sounded part of the master plan.</p><p><strong>PAGE:</strong> I hadn't heard anything like that before, and loved it. I was always looking for things like that when I recorded. That's the beauty of old recording equipment. Robert's faraway voice sounded otherworldly, like a spirit anticipating the vocal he was about to deliver.</p><p><strong>KRAMER:</strong> By adding reverb, we made his faint voice more dynamic, and it became part of rock history. I also used the pan pots on Jimmy's guitar solo to fling it from side to side, so it would move from one speaker to another. I loved the sonic imagery, and I like to think of my mixes as stereophonic paintings.</p><p>On the break after the first chorus, where the song gets quiet and we hear Bonzo's cymbals and percussion and Jimmy's distortion, Jimmy and I went nuts on the knobs. We had eight dials controlling the levels on eight individual tracks, so we rehearsed the choreography of what we were going to do to create the far-out sounds. Then we did it and printed the result onto the master stereo reel. Because Jimmy was a studio brat, he really understood how we could push the limits. When you have limitations in the studio, you go for it and stretch your imagination.</p><p><strong>PAGE:</strong> Some people said later that "Whole Lotta Love" was based on Willie Dixon's "You Need Love" [recorded by Muddy Waters and released in 1962] and the Small Faces' "You Need Loving" [released in 1966]. My riff - the basis for the entire song - sounds nothing like either of them. Robert had referenced the Dixon lyrics because with my riff, they felt right. This eventually forced us to give Dixon a cocredit on our song. But if you take Robert's vocal out, there's no musical reference to either song.</p><p>When we were done, "Whole Lotta Love" ran 5:33, which was great since at the time it was too long to edit for a single. So Atlantic released the album version as a single. We loved that. But soon after, Atlantic cut the single down to 3:12 to satisfy AM radio. Weeks before its release, they sent me an acetate of the edit. How one of Led Zeppelin's greatest hits was made

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Ever since his breakout role in 2013's "Inside Llewyn Davis,"&#xa0;Oscar Isaac <a href="http://www.techinsider.io/oscar-isaac-bio-2015-7">has become one of Hollywood's most reliably great actors</a>. He has <a href="http://www.details.com/culture-trends/celebrities/201504/oscar-isaac-star-wars-ex-machina?currentPage=1">often been compared</a> to actors such as Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.</p><p>After an Oscar-worthy turn this year in "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ex-machina-movie-review-2015-4">Ex Machina</a>," Isaac prepares for the next huge move of&#xa0;his career. In December, he will play pilot Poe Dameron in "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens."</p><p>Before becoming the acclaimed actor that he is today though, Isaac took a different path to show business success. He took all the guitar skills he picked up as a child and tried to make a living as a musician.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>While living in Florida, where he grew up, Isaac served as frontman for a ska-punk band called The Blinking Underdogs. Isaac was a member of the band long before he went off to acting school at Julliard.</p><p>The group formed in Miami. During their brief run together, the band had some strong successes. They performed at Warped Tour and even opened for Green Day.</p><p>The group disbanded in 2001. The last news update on their <a href="https://archive.org/details/iuma-blinking_underdogs">website</a>, posted on September 24, 2001,&#xa0;comes from band member Nick and announces Isaac's departure:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">Hello everyone, Nick here. For those of you who don't know we are taking a break as of now while Oscar attends acting school at Julliard in NYC. We will be playing on his breaks or whenever we can. Check back here for shows that will be booked in the future.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">Another bit if info on the band, when we do get back together, it is going to be a different band than what it was when we were a 6 piece. We aren't going to have horns, after losing Alan it just wasn't the same group horn wise and the song writing has been steering away from that style a bit. Most likely the group will be a 4 piece, 2 guitars, bass and drums. This past summer we experimented with this grouping and it seemed to work very well. Sometimes, they might be embarrassed by them. <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/starsandstories/10544256/Oscar-Isaac-interview-for-Inside-Llewyn-Davis-I-had-no-interest-in-going-off-the-rails.html">In an interview with The Telegraph</a>, Isaac admitted that he isn't very proud of his abilities as a lead singer.</p><p>"<span>I was never much of a singer. I was terrible," he admitted. "It's embarrassing, I was trying to sound like everybody else. I went through a big Cure phase so I was trying to do that kind of dramatic voice."</span></p><p><span>Yet, this helped him with his career in a big way.</span></p><p><span>Isaac's breakout role came in "Inside Llewyn Davis." In the film he plays a musician struggling to make it in the 1960s Greenwich Village folk scene. 'Star Wars' actor Oscar Isaac started his career in a Florida ska band

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">"</span><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4229236/">Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck</a><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">" has a treasure trove of never-before-seen materials that looks back on the childhood and private life of the legendary lead singer of Nirvana, who tragically took his own life in April of 1994 at the age of 27. </span></p><p>But there's one particular piece in the documentary, directed by <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0605137/?ref_=tt_ov_dr">Brett Morgen</a> ("<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303353/?ref_=nv_sr_1">The Kid Stays in the Picture</a>") that no one, not even Cobain's family or closest friends, ever knew existed. </p><p>Morgen had been working on the project for five years when he finally got the call. In 2013, he was granted access to a storage space where Cobain's most intimate materials - journals he wrote and paintings he created - are kept.</p><p>"One of the things that would change the direction of the film was a box that I found that said, 'cassettes,'" Morgen told Business Insider.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Surprised to find the box, as no one told him any audio was stored there, Morgen tracked down a few cassette decks and began transferring them into digital files. </span></p><p>Hidden among the hours of recordings of Cobain playing music and joking around, he came across a story Cobain taped in 1988.</p><p>"I knew instantly it was different because he was performing it and was doing multiple takes on it," Morgen explained. "It was a little more narrative than most of Kurt's art."</p><p>The story Cobain tells in the recording is of his first sexual encounter, which then leads to the first time he contemplated suicide. </p><p>Morgen brought the recording to the Cobain family, who had never heard it. He even brought it to the attention of Cobain's biographer, Charles R. Cross, who wasn't aware of its existence, either.</p><p>Morgen knew it needed to be in the film, but how could he make it work visually for the movie?</p><p>Morgen is famously known for using animation in his work. In <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303353/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_8" target="_blank">"The Kid Stays in the Picture,"</a> he used effects to bring still photography to life in his story of Hollywood mogul <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Evans_(producer)">Robert Evans</a>.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><br><br><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">And the 2007 film, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0905979/" target="_blank">"Chicago 10"</a> <span>-</span> a look at the anti-war protestors put on trial following the 1968 Democratic National Convention <span>-</span> is entirely animated. </span></br></br></p><p>But Morgen admits he initially had no intention of animating the Cobain audio.</p><p>"We were going to animate his art and his journals (made for the film by artist <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stefan_Nadelman">Stefan Nadelman</a>), but there was never a discussion about animating Kurt," he said.</p><p>But then he came across the work of Dutch artist/filmmaker <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hisko_Hulsing">Hisko Hulsing</a> and his animated film, "<a href="https://vimeo.com/84024649">Junkyard.</a>" </p><p>"I felt that he had a similar dystopian view of the world that Kurt had, but a much better craftsman than Kurt," said Morgen of Hulsing. "But the view and the tone had a lot of similarities, a lot of darkness and twisted reality."</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Morgen asked Hulsing to join the project to animate the Cobain audio story. Hulsing also animated another audio sequence later on in the film in which Cobain is recording the mundane moments of his life while living at his girlfriend's house in the '80s.</span></p><p>"I've never been a Nirvana fan," Hulsing admits. "I think I was 21 when 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' became a hit and I just had a dark, psychotic adolescence, so it didn't strike a right cord for me."</p><p>But Hulsing said he agreed to come on because he was fascinated by Morgen's mission to celebrate Cobain's life, not mythologize his death.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Morgen played Hulsing an edited version of the audio that was more polished and streamlined than the original recording he discovered in the cardboard box. Morgen also came up with a shot list for Hulsing to follow while making the animation, and the two went back and forth for months on storyboards.</span></p><p>From his small studio in Amsterdam, Hulsing compiled a team of 27 people (18 of them animators) and for four months they worked on not only the Cobain audio story, but the other portion of the film Hulsing was responsible for. For the 85 shots that were Hulsing's responsibility, they produced 6,000 animations and 60 oil paintings on canvas. "I believe that the somber palette adds a lot of darkness and hopelessness to the story of young, suicidal Kurt."</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Hulsing also said that Cobain's blank facial features in the story came from how he and Morgen believed Kurt felt in his social setting. "He's hanging out with a group he's not a real part of," he said. "Kurt's own voiceover already explains his own state of mind as a teenager, the way he felt rejected and ridiculed, I didn't want to overdo that."</span></p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">There were also some visuals that don't match what Cobain says, particularly the line when he goes to the railroad tracks to commit suicide: "Put two big pieces of cement on my chest and legs and waited for the eleven o'clock train." According to Morgen, that was intentional. "I decided to take that one moment and deviate from Kurt's narrative just a bit to kind of embrace the subjectivity of the sequencing and acknowledging that we are interpreting these events," he said.</span></p><p>The music played over the telling of the story is a string arrangement of the Nirvana hit, "Smells Like Teen Spirit," arranged by composer <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Danna">Jeff Danna</a>. "There was already some existing music of strings playing 'Smells Like Teen Spirit,'" Hulsing said. "So [Morgen] put that under my moving storyboards in the beginning and it really worked for Brett, so later he had a new composition done."</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Looking back on making the film, Morgen said Hulsing's work was always the wild card. </span></p><p>"Once we saw the final assembly edit, Joe Beshenkovsky, who edited the film with me, both of us felt we were pretty comfortable where we landed," said Morgen. "But at the same time we knew Hisko was just getting started [on animating]. There was this fear, 'Hisko is going to be our Achilles heel if he doesn't deliver.' It's not like we could cut out the sequence. I've had some treacherous experiences with animation not really working out the way you'd hoped."</p><p>But when Hulsing delivered the first drawings, all the anxiety rushed away. </p><p>"He gave me a gift," Morgen said. "He was really committed to the work. He really wanted to get it right and I really appreciate that about him."</p><p>Hulsing said with a chuckle about the experience, "I'm still recovering."</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">What's fascinating to learn about Cobain's audio story is that it may not be true. </span></p><p>"I met Krist Novoselic, the bass player for Nirvana, at Sundance and he said that he knew Kurt very well from a young age and he never heard that story before," said Hulsing.</p><p>Morgen and Cobain's wife, Courtney Love, also questioned the story's veracity at a Q&amp;A following the film's screening at the Tribeca Film Festival last month. </p><p>But, Morgen told BI, whether it's real or not doesn't interest him. </p><p>"I'm not a writer or a historian," he said. Here's how one of the most memorable scenes from HBO's Kurt Cobain documentary was made

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>HBO/Hisko Hulsing/"Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck"</span></p><p class="caption">Animation by Hisko Hulsing for the HBO documentary, "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck."</p></div><p></p></div></div>After receiving three Emmy nominations following its airing on HBO in May, <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">"</span><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4229236/">Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck</a><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">" is back in theaters Friday. </span></p><p>The documentary has a treasure trove of never-before-seen material that looks back on the childhood and private life of the legendary lead singer of Nirvana, who tragically took his own life in April 1994 at the age of 27. </p><p>But there's one particular piece in the film, directed by <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0605137/?ref_=tt_ov_dr">Brett Morgen</a> ("<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303353/?ref_=nv_sr_1">The Kid Stays in the Picture</a>") that no one, not even Cobain's family or closest friends, ever knew existed. </p><p>Morgen had been working on the project for five years when he finally got the call. In 2013, he was granted access to a storage space where Cobain's most intimate materials - journals he wrote and paintings he created - are kept.</p><p>"One of the things that would change the direction of the film was a box that I found that said, 'cassettes,'" Morgen told Business Insider.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>HBO/"Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck"</span></p><p class="caption">One of Cobain's childhood cassettes director Brett Morgen found.</p></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Surprised to find the box, as no one told him any audio was stored there, Morgen tracked down a few cassette decks and began transferring them into digital files. </span></p><p>Hidden among the hours of recordings of Cobain playing music and joking around, he came across a story Cobain taped in 1988.</p><p>"I knew instantly it was different because he was performing it and was doing multiple takes on it," Morgen explained. "It was a little more narrative than most of Kurt's art."</p><p>The story Cobain tells in the recording is of his first sexual encounter, which then leads to the first time he contemplated suicide. </p><p>Morgen brought the recording to the Cobain family, who had never heard it. He even brought it to the attention of Cobain's biographer, Charles R. Cross, who wasn't aware of its existence, either.</p><p>Morgen knew it needed to be in the film, but how could he make it work visually for the movie?</p><p>Morgen is famously known for using animation in his work. In <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303353/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_8" target="_blank">"The Kid Stays in the Picture,"</a> he used effects to bring still photography to life in his story of Hollywood mogul <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Evans_(producer)">Robert Evans</a>.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>YouTube/USA Films/"The Kid Stays In The Picture"</span></p><p class="caption">"The Kid Stays in the Picture."</p></div><p></p></div></div><br /><br /><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">And the 2007 film, "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0905979/" target="_blank">Chicago 10</a>" <span>-</span> a look at the anti-war protestors put on trial following the 1968 Democratic National Convention <span>-</span> is entirely animated. </span></p><p>But Morgen admits he initially had no intention of animating the Cobain audio.</p><p>"We were going to animate his art and his journals (made for the film by artist <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stefan_Nadelman">Stefan Nadelman</a>), but there was never a discussion about animating Kurt," he said.</p><p>But then he came across the work of Dutch artist/filmmaker <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hisko_Hulsing">Hisko Hulsing</a> and his animated film, "<a href="https://vimeo.com/84024649">Junkyard.</a>" </p><p>"I felt that he had a similar dystopian view of the world that Kurt had, but a much better craftsman than Kurt," said Morgen of Hulsing. Hulsing also animated another audio sequence later on in the film in which Cobain is recording the mundane moments of his life while living at his girlfriend's house in the '80s.</span></p><p>"I've never been a Nirvana fan," Hulsing admits. Morgen also came up with a shot list for Hulsing to follow while making the animation, and the two went back and forth for months on storyboards.</span></p><p>From his small studio in Amsterdam, Hulsing compiled a team of 27 people (18 of them animators) and for four months they worked on not only the Cobain audio story, but also on the other portion of the film Hulsing was responsible for. For the 85 shots that were Hulsing's responsibility, they produced 6,000 animations and 60 oil paintings on canvas. Of course, there are many different routes one can take to make that dream a reality. Do you want to play for a Hall of Fame coach? <br /><br />Are stellar facilities a must-have? Will a deep NCAA tournament run get you the exposure you need? As you can see, there are a number of factors players need to take into account before selecting where they'll play collegiate ball.</p>
<p>To try and help determine which college program pumps out the most NBA-ready players, we decided to run some numbers using one always-important statistic - salary. Below, you'll find the top 20 schools whose alumni currently make the most money in the league for 2013-2014, according to ESPN's data. You may not be surprised to see which school is sitting at No. 1.</p>
<p><strong>20. LSU: $23,534,293 - 5 players</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">The Tigers don't boast any true NBA superstars at the moment, but they do have a number of solid veterans who will combine to make over $23 million this season. Kings guard Marcus Thornton leads the way, making just over $8 million this season, followed by serviceable power forwards Brandon Bass and Glen Davis. Anthony Randolph and Garrett Temple round out LSU's list.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><strong>19. Arkansas: $24,326,342 - 4 players</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">Sometimes it only takes one, and in Arkansas' case, that 'one' is Brooklyn Net Joe Johnson, who's albatross of a contract made him considered one of the most untradeable players in the NBA-until Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov decided that he really wanted to win, and acquired Johnson from the Atlanta Hawks. Johnson makes $21,466,718 this season, while the other three Razorbacks on this list - Ronnie Brewer, Patrick Beverley, and Jannero Pargo - make under $3 million combined.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><strong>18. Michigan State: $26,265,990 - 4 players</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">Zach Randolph is the only legitimate superstar Spartan still in the NBA, and the salaries show that: he pulled in over $18 million for his post presence. Once-high-flying guard Jason Richardson is still cashing in over $6 million this season, while Alan Anderson and Draymond Green are making just under $1 million each.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><strong>17. Stanford: $26,848,167 - 3 players</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">The bulk of Stanford's paychecks come from one family; star Nets center Brook Lopez had a break-out season last year and will make $14,693,906 for his efforts, while his brother Robin will haul in just under $6 million himself as a Portland Trail Blazer. Guard Landry Fields adds just over $6 million of his own to the total.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><strong>16. Syracuse: $28,368,406 - 4 players</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">Carmelo Anthony accounts for most of this total with his $21 million salary, while young guards Dion Waiters ($3.8 million) and Michael Carter-Williams ($2.2 million) come up after Melo. Waiters' future with the Cavaliers is uncertain, though he will have a spot in the NBA for a while, but MCW should help Syracuse shoot up this list in the next few years. The Rookie of the Year favorite exploded onto the scene for the Sixers this season, and they will want to lock him up with a new contract sooner rather than later.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><strong>15. USC: $28,382,974 - 6 players</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">Most don't think of USC as a program that churns out many big NBA stars, but the Trojans have three players making pretty good money in DeMar DeRozan ($9.5 million), O.J. Mayo ($8 million), and Taj Gibson ($7.5 million). Many viewed DeRozan's contract as a bad one for the Raptors, but he has become the team's leading scorer, and they are currently well in the playoff hunt. Outside of these three, Nikola Vucevic is in line to get a solid second NBA deal. The young forward averages 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Magic at just $1.8 million this season.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><strong>14. Memphis: $31,675,971 - 5 players</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">Memphis produced two of the more explosive (when healthy) guards in the NBA in former MVP Derrick Rose and current New Orleans Pelican Tyreke Evans. Rose is pulling in $17.6 million from the Chicago Bulls, although I'm sure they would pony up a few more million if it meant that Rose could stay on the court for a full season. Evans makes $11.8 million as one of the Pelicans strong guard trio. Elliot Williams, Will Barton, and Chris Douglas-Roberts each make under a million to add a bit to Memphis' total.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><strong>13. Marquette: $31,900,232 - 6 players</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">The Golden Eagles' combined salaries are heavily propped up by Dwyane Wade's $18.7 million, but Wesley Matthews ($6.9 million) and Steve Novak ($3.75 million) each contribute as well. The player to watch out for is Jimmy Butler, who broke out during last year's playoffs as a capable offensive threat and elite perimeter defender. He's only pulling in $1.1 million this season, but is in line for a big second contract.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><strong>12. Georgetown: $32,610,774 - 6 players</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">Roy Hibbert's breakout for the Indiana Pacers has done wonders for the Hoya bottom line. As one of the best pure centers in the NBA, Hibbert will make just under $14.3 million in 2013-14. Forwards Jeff Green nets $8.7 million this year, while Otto Porter, and Greg Monroe are each at just over $4 million, although Monroe should be seeing an extension soon, or he may test free agency in the off-season.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><strong>11. Wake Forest: $42,365,552 - 6 players</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">Wake Forest basketball has been down for a few years, but the Demon Deacons still claim two of the NBA's top players and probable future Hall of Famers as their own. Chris Paul is widely considered the best point guard in the NBA and is paid like it, hauling in over $18.6 million this season. Tim Duncan is still an All-Star level power forward, but he has taken modest contracts in order to help the San Antonio Spurs build around him. The Big Fundamental will bring in over $10.3 million this season. Atlanta Hawks point guard Jeff Teague has been surprisingly steady this year, and makes $8 million for his efforts. Al-Farouq Aminu ($3.75 million), Ish Smith ($950,000), and James Johnson ($634,000) round out Wake's list.</p>
<p><strong>10. Texas: $43,109,367 - 8 players</strong></p>
<p>Superstars Kevin Durant and LaMarcus Aldridge account for over $32 million of Texas' $43 million in salary, and for good reason. The Thunder and Trail Blazers are tied for second place in the NBA's Western Conference with 28-9 records, largely because of their contributions. While the Longhorns haven't made a Final Four run since 2002-2003, they have consistently churned out decent NBA talent.</p>
<p><strong>9. Georgia Tech: $46,237,403 - 8 players</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">Yep, the same Georgia Tech program that's only reached the NCAAs three times since its title game run in 2004. Miami's Chris Bosh makes over $19 million, despite taking a lower salary to join the Heat. Thaddeus Young, Jarrett Jack and Derrick Favors all make at least $6 million. The Yellow Jackets surprisingly check in as the No. 3 ACC team on our list.</p>
<p><strong>8. Kansas: $46,758,883 - 14 players</strong></p>
<p>While Kansas has churned out a high number of NBA players, all but one - Paul Pierce - make less than $5 million. And Pierce's deal, which pays him just over $15 million this year, expires at the end of the season. While it's fair to assume that freshman superstar Andrew Wiggins, should he leave the Jayhawks after one year, will make a good chunk of change, it probably won't stop the program from free falling on this list next year. The number of NBA role players who attended KU (Hinrich, Chalmers, Rush, Robinson, Collison, Henry) is astounding.</p>
<p><strong>7. Arizona: $53,838,585 - 9 players</strong></p>
<p>The Wildcats' top four players in salary - Andre Iguodala, Richard Jefferson, Channing Frye, and Jason Terry - are all veterans who most likely won't get big contracts in the future. Derrick Williams, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, needed a change of scenery from Minnesota to Sacramento to get more playing time and show what he can do. Still, the lack of rising stars means that Zona will probably move down this list in the future, too.</p>
<p><strong>6. North Carolina: $53,948,533 - 16 players</strong></p>
<p>The Tar Heels have 16 players in the NBA, second to only Kentucky. Denver's Ty Lawson is actually the main breadwinner, checking in at just under $11 million this year. Next up are Marvin Williams, Brandan Wright, Danny Green and Raymond Felton. Like Kansas, UNC has a crazy-high number of role players in the NBA, along with a few aging superstars (Vince Carter, Antawn Jamison). While the sheer number of players should keep the Heels on this list for quite some time, they won't be challenging for the top spot any time soon.</p>
<p><strong>5. Florida: $60,873,433 - 12 players</strong></p>
<p>Florida's back-to-back NCAA titles in the mid-2000s produced three of the top four Gators, salary wise, currently playing in the NBA today. Al Horford and Joakim Noah both make over $11 million, while Corey Brewer checks in at $5 million. David Lee, who played at UF just a few years before those tournament runs, comes in at just under $14 million. One player to watch is 20-year-old Bradley Beal, who could be playing himself into a nice little contract with the Washington Wizards in the future.</p>
<p><strong>4. Duke: $67,081,620 - 14 players</strong></p>
<p>Last year, <a href="http://collegespun.com/acc/syracuse/the-15-colleges-whose-alumni-made-the-most-money-in-the-nba-this-year">Duke actually topped this list.</a> Why the drop? Corey Maggette (and his contract) retired, dropping the overall total over $10 million for the Blue Devils. Carlos Boozer and Luol Deng still make $15 million and $14 million, respectively, but one has to imagine that neither will get another huge deal in their career. 21-year-old superstar Kyrie Irving, on the other hand, has huge potential to land a max contract after his rookie deal expires. Whether he'll leave Cleveland, though, is a debate for another time.</p>
<p><strong>3. UCLA: $68,606,959 - 12 players</strong></p>
<p>Simply put, UCLA has produced two of the best young superstars in the NBA - Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook. Jrue Holiday, Arron Afflalo and Trevor Ariza have also turned into solid players who make between $7 million and $10 million per year. Rookie Shabazz Muhammad has had a tough time finding minutes for the Timberwolves, despite being drafted in the middle of the first round. The Bruins haven't churned much out in the past few years, but what they produced in the mid-to-late 2000s should keep their presence felt in the league for years to come.</p>
<p><strong>2. Connecticut: $75,530,794 - 12 players</strong></p>
<p>The Huskies have a very nice mix of older/younger NBA talent. While veterans like Rudy Gay, Emeka Okafor and Ben Gordon currently pull in the most cash, budding stars like Kemba Walker, Andre Drummond and Jeremy Lamb are poised for higher-paying contracts in the near future. Just like last year, UConn was within $2 million of taking the top overall spot, which you guessed it, belongs to:</p>
<p><strong>1. Kentucky: $77,324,323 - 21 players</strong></p>
<p>The program that everyone loves to hate, led by the coach that everyone loves to hate, actually produces the most NBA players. But it's not just the Coach Cal era - four of the top six paid former Wildcats - Rajon Rondo, Tayshaun Prince, Chuck Hayes and Keith Bogans - played well before he came to town. Even when those contracts expire, UK has another crop of rising stars. John Wall, Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will all make substantially more money in a few years than they do now. It's entirely possible that Kentucky retains this spot for the next three, four, maybe even five years.</p>
