A group of Indian origin Silicon Valley hotshots have joined the board of the financial technology firm <keyword id="2689416" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Deal4loans">Deal4Loans</keyword>, which provides loans through its online portal. 
 Among others, the group includes <keyword id="508899" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ram-Shriram">Ram Shriram</keyword>, founding board member and one of the first investors in Google, <keyword id="468884" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Neeraj-Arora">Neeraj Arora</keyword>, the business head of Whatsapp and <keyword id="3322410" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Puru-Vashishtha">Puru Vashishtha</keyword>, who had invested on Wall Street hedge funds. All three of them have also invested unknown amounts in the company. 
 Deal4Loans, founded by <keyword id="2034824" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rishi-Mehra">Rishi Mehra</keyword> in 2009, claims that it is the first of its kind when it comes to online loan comparison and booking. Mehra told ET told that it has seen a "hockey stick growth" in the last three years, having already booked Rs 10,000 crore in loans through its customer base of 7 million. 
 
"Its deep technology edge and algorithms attracted me to invest in the company. Digitisation of banks is a reality that Indian banks will have to adapt to," Shriram told ET via mail. 
 
He also added that digitisation would require banks to have a technology partner, something which Deal4loans is capable of being.

Female protagonists are ruling <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> nowadays and we were definitely looking forward to some spectacular showing when Kangana Ranaut-Vir Das-starrer comedy-drama <keyword id="1132893" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Revolver-Rani">Revolver Rani</keyword> and Subhash Ghai-directed <keyword id="2214753" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kaanchi-The-Unbreakable">Kaanchi: The Unbreakable</keyword>, yet another <keyword id="2097207" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Woman-centric-movie">woman-centric movie</keyword>, were released on April 25. <keyword id="1718118" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Samrat-Co-">Samrat &amp; Co.</keyword>, a whodunit movie directed and co-written by <keyword id="1097593" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kaushik-Ghatak">Kaushik Ghatak</keyword>, was the third release of the week. 
 Going by the numbers, it was an extremely poor weekend at the <keyword id="827271" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Domestic-Box-Office">domestic box office</keyword> and the Monday business did not look up either, predicting more gloom and doom. After her stellar performance in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Box-Office-Queen-OutshinesGulaab-Gang-Total-Siyapaa-Tanks/articleshow/31848837.cms">Queen</a> (it has netted around Rs 60 crore at home and grossed nearly Rs 93 crore worldwide), Kangana-led Revolver Rani has turned out to be a surprise slow-starter at the <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword> in spite of an intriguing storyline. Sure, it had the best start among the three but netted around Rs 6 crore at home after the first three days in spite of hype and the positive word of mouth. Debut day occupancy was as low as 15% although the movie has hit around 1,500 screens, nearly double the number of <keyword id="6377522" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="queen">Queen</keyword>. 
 
Interestingly, Queen, too, picked up pace pretty late, but managed to nett around Rs 9 crore after the first three days. For Revolver Rani, the crucial Day 4 (Monday, April 28) business was equally dismal and the movie collected around Rs 1.4 crore at home. It has an estimated budget of Rs 24 crore. 
 
However, <keyword id="1417195" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kaanchi">Kaanchi</keyword>, directed by <keyword id="6354581" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Subhash-Ghai">Subhash Ghai</keyword>, suffered a worse fate. This one looks like a clear <keyword id="2076872" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Box-office-bomb">box office bomb</keyword> and collected a paltry Rs 75 lakh on the opening Friday. Weekend earnings remained extremely disappointing and the romance-cum-revenge drama could only manage Rs 3 crore in the first three days. Monday collections stood at an estimated Rs 1.1 crore. With the budget of the movie projected to be Rs 30 crore-plus, industry experts are already calling it another disastrous outing by Ghai. Kaanchi has opened in 1,150-1,200 theatres at home, but the occupancy was less than 15%, especially at single screens. In fact, Kaanchi is the lowest debut-day grosser among Ghai’s recent flops including Yaadein (Rs 1.6 crore on opening Friday), Kisna (Rs 1.5 crore) and Yuvraaj (Rs 2.9 crore). 
 <keyword id="2218677" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Samrat-and-Co-">Samrat and Co.</keyword>, a <keyword id="25276" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="detective">detective</keyword> thriller starring <keyword id="15130" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajeev-Khandelwal">Rajeev Khandelwal</keyword>, <keyword id="110704" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Madalasa-Sharma">Madalasa Sharma</keyword> and <keyword id="1600791" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gopal-Datt">Gopal Datt</keyword>, hit around 500 screens at home and was immediately declared a flop. First day collections at the domestic box office were an appalling Rs 25 lakh and total earnings in the first three days stood at Rs 1.45 crore, as per trade figures. Interestingly, first Monday (Day 4) collections were better than the opening day, amounting to Rs 60 lakh. But keeping the film’s budget in mind – in the zone of Rs 18 crore or so – this rahasya (mystery) ride won’t be going anywhere in terms of <keyword id="1996031" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Box-office-performance">box office performance</keyword>. 
 
 
 If you are still wondering what has led to the wholesale box office debacle, a close look at all the three flicks may help decode the failures. Directed by <keyword id="2218682" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sai-Kabir-Shrivastav">Sai Kabir Shrivastav</keyword> (he also did the story and the screenplay) Revolver Rani narrates the story of <keyword id="315181" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Alka-Singh">Alka Singh</keyword> (<keyword id="2201" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kangana-Ranaut">Kangana Ranaut</keyword>), a dacoit-turned-politician in the thick of power game and in love with Bollywood aspirant <keyword id="1555785" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rohan-Mehra">Rohan Mehra</keyword> (<keyword id="671" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vir-das">Vir Das</keyword>). Kangana plays the <keyword id="2218683" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chambal-girl">Chambal girl</keyword> to perfection – raw, raunchy, power-loving and trigger-happy. But one must not write it off as another one of the Bandit Queen saga. The ground realities, the ingrained satire and the layers of turbulence unfold well in the movie, but the story fails at times – losing the smooth flow and meandering during the second half. Overall, it has loads of merit, but it’s hardly a feel-good movie and that could be one of the key reasons behind the slow business pick-up. As <keyword id="122490" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="film-critic">film critic</keyword> Anupama Chopra so rightly said, “If you can enjoy bad people doing bad things, then Revolver Rani will be fun.” 
 
Kaanchi, on the other hand, simply drags on and loses all the suspense of a revenge drama that it later turns out to be. The movie features two newcomers in lead roles, <keyword id="562167" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kartik-Tiwari">Kartik Tiwari</keyword> (aka <keyword id="2104801" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kartik-Aaryan">Kartik Aaryan</keyword>) and Hindi movie debutante Indrani Chakraborty (aka Mishti), while the ‘big baddies’ are played by <keyword id="6357910" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rishi-Kapoor">Rishi Kapoor</keyword> and <keyword id="14672" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mithun-Chakraborty">Mithun Chakraborty</keyword>. The naïve rural beauty Kaanchi fights against power and corruption as her love Binda, her land and her life are at stake. But as is the Bollywood norm, the twists and turns get too filmy to be convincing, the characters become stereotypes and the dialogues are mere lip service. At the end, we are looking at a mere shell instead of a strong script, powerful performances and the ‘gale’ of change. 
 Samrat and Co. does no better in terms of cinematic art. Rajeev Khandelwal (<keyword id="239627" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="private-investigator">private investigator</keyword> Samrat Tilakdhari) lacks the earlier sparkle of Table No. 21. And if you are expecting Rajeev and Gopal (Samrat’s <keyword id="6419345" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="assistant">assistant</keyword> and friend, <keyword id="2218675" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chakradhar-Pandey">Chakradhar Pandey</keyword>) do a Holmes-Watson act, you could be mightily disappointed. But currently you have a mystery to solve. Try and predict if these three would do well at the domestic box office over the first week. Your guess is as good as ours.

Post her breakup with actor Ranbir Kapoor, <keyword id="6354850" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Katrina-Kaif">Katrina Kaif</keyword> has kept a brave front and has not shied away from public appearances, be it for the promotions of the movie or any award shows. The latest appearance has come in the form of a picture with actor <keyword id="1320874" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sidharth-Malhotra">Sidharth Malhotra</keyword>, her co-actor from the upcoming movie <keyword id="3025287" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="baar-baar-dekho">Baar Baar Dekho</keyword>. Apparently, the actor took to his social media accounts to share the selfie that was clicked after the duo wrapped up the shooting of Baar Baar Dekho.

 Earlier, <keyword id="6381730" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="govinda">Govinda</keyword> who was roped in for an important character of the movie walked out of the movie, leaving the makers in trouble. If his exit was not enough to delay the shoot of the film, another problem has now surfaced, owing to which almost half of the movie has to be shot again. The reason behind this delay is said to be the change in the storyline of the movie. 
 
Apparently, the movie was planned to be a musical narrative, but given that Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirziya, starring <keyword id="6354700" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anil-Kapoor">Anil Kapoor</keyword>’s son Harshvardhan and Shabana Azmi’s niece Saiyami Kher, is also running on the same line, director Anurag Basu has decided to change the screenplay. 
 Another issue with the movie is the role of Ranbir’s father, for which no actor seems to be finalized as of yet. We have also heard that Govinda was roped in for the same role but walked out at the last moment, as he didn’t want to play Ranbir’s father. If reports are to be believed, Anil Kapoor and <keyword id="6357912" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="amitabh-bachchan">Amitabh Bachchan</keyword> have now been approached for the role. However, if things don’t get finalized with them, we believe that Ranbir’s real life father, actor <keyword id="6357910" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rishi-Kapoor">Rishi Kapoor</keyword> could be a considerable option too. 
 
Although the last time the real life father-son duo played their roles on camera, the resultant movie Besharam was a big dud, both commercially and critically.

The announcement was made by Harper Collins in November 2022. The question that remains is why is the first book about <keyword id="341578" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="savitribai" source="Orion">Savitribai</keyword> Phule coming 125 years after her death? Here's an interview with the author who also wrote the bestselling biography of Sanjeev Kumar in 2022. Q: Why is the first biography on Savitribai Phule coming so late? A: As a matter of fact, there are many books about Savitribai in Marathi. I have seen some compilations in English as well, but nothing that qualifies as a biography. This unapologetic pride is possible because, on the one hand, we haven't been acquisitive or predatory towards other lands. On the other hand, from Gandhi to Buddha, Narendra Modi to Rishi Sunak, Mukesh Ambani to Gautam Adani, and Mother Teresa to Priyanka Chopra, some of the world's most inspirational icons across different fields are from India. India has come into her own. Q: Why did you pick this subject? A: Every Indian woman, anywhere in the world, who can read and write, owes a debt of gratitude to Savitribai Phule. I wanted to bring her to the front and centre of public consciousness because the preservation of our democracy lies in being cognisant of our hard-won freedom and how precious and tenuous this freedom is! Savitribai Phule was an embodiment of the word 'feminism'. Her convictions and her actions were set in the 19th century, at a time when even basic rights were not available to women. She fought for their basic dignity and education. Her activism and her duty required real gumption. She not only rescripted her own life, she made it possible for untouchables and women to re-script theirs too. Q: Is it possible to 'Rescript Your Life', as per your first book? A: Yes, 'Rescript Your Life' is my first book, on which every other book is based. You become what you believe in, not what you want, is the message of the book. If you read 'Stranger in the Mirror', Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's biography, he is someone who came from humble origins to become one of our greatest filmmakers. If you read 'Sanjeev Kumar: The Actor We All Loved', the man lost his father at 12 and fell prey to heavy depression, before he rose to become one of India's finest actors. So both of them re-scripted their lives. Q: Your book is titled Savitri and Fatima. A: Yes, this is a story of a friendship between the two women. When Savitribai and her husband Jyotirao Phule founded the first school for girls (by a non-missionary or by someone who was not British), they were thrown out of their house. It was Fatima Shaikh who gave them shelter. Fatima had taken her teacher training lessons along with Savitribai Phule and they developed a deep friendship. Fatima functioned as a dependable deputy to Savitri Phule's efforts. She offered to run all the schools and this gave Savitribai Phule the opportunity to confront other social issues such as widow remarriage and the oppressive caste system. Yet, this friendship between Savitri and Fatima and their work together remains unsung and unknown. They had a dream, 'education for all', irrespective of caste, creed or religion. The spark lit by Savitri and Fatima had far-reaching consequences. As more and more they got educated, their minds opened up to the ideas of freedom, justice and liberty. Q: When will this book be launched? A: Later this year. But I do believe that after this book, Fatima Shaikh will be mentioned with the same reverence that we accord to former President and freedom fighter <keyword id="8925" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="zakir-hussain" source="Orion">Zakir Hussain</keyword> or former President and acclaimed scientist A.P.J. Be it deciding what to do with foreign investors and their tax issues, to making life simpler for India’s citizens while filing tax returns, to deciding how much money should be spent by the government on various important social schemes amongst sundry other ‘totally nerve-wracking issues’. 
 But even the Finance Minister of India needs a breather. So, what does he do when he isn’t holding the reins of the country’s wallet? He watches a hindi movie! Known to be quite the movie buff, Arun Jaitley indulged in some ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ moments last evening, when noted lyricist and father of the movie’s director, <keyword id="10355" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Javed-Akhtar">Javed Akhtar</keyword> invited the FM to a special screening of his daughter, Zoya Akhtar’s soon to-be released and eagerly anticipated movie. 
 
We sure would want to know how he liked the movie. Did the cool locales of the movie take the FM’s mind of the Delhi heat, and the work load he faces everyday! Or did it remind him of the vacations he can no longer take with his family, given the workload he faces everyday! 
 
That said, even as Arun Jaitley watched the movie, the stars of DDD are in Delhi, on an extensive promotion spree for the movie, for which the audience has been waiting with bated breath. The movie, which is about a dysfunctional Punjabi Family talks about how they rediscover lost relationships on a cruise across the Mediterranean Sea. 
 
The movie stars Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra, Rahul Bose, Farhan Akhtar and Vikrant Massey. With such a huge star cast, the movie is surely the talk of the town today, and many celebrities who have watched the movie have vouched for it.
