<ul class="summary-list"><li>Hennessy is one of Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez's oldest brand partners.</li><li>The luxury drinks brand has been front-and-center of his Las Vegas fights this year.</li></ul><p>LAS VEGAS — It's easy to think of Top Rank, PBC, or Matchroom, when it comes to the most significant promoters in boxing.</p><p>But the luxury drinks brand Hennessy plays its part, too, as its VSOP bottle is ever-present whenever Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez — one of the pound-for-pound greats in the modern era — is in town.</p><p>The Cognac house is Canelo's lead sponsor and presented Saturday's marquee fight between Canelo and Gennadiy Golovkin, which took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.</p><p>Numerous fighters dream of driving down Las Vegas Boulevard to see their names lit up in neon above the world-famous Strip.</p><p>If Canelo had done that cruise this week, or earlier this summer, he'd have seen as many Hennessy banners lauding him as their company ambassador, as billboards listing details about his fight with GGG.</p><p>During a pre-fight party Insider attended Friday at Aria, Jasmin Allen, the SVP of Hennessy U.S. and Moet Hennessy at LVMH, praised Canelo at an exclusive event filled with fashionistas and boxers alike.</p><p>"He's a partner of ours for six years and one of the best ambassadors we've ever had," Allen said of Canelo.</p><div type="image" title="Jasmin Allen at Hennessy." height="3000" width="4000" msid="94335862" hostid="261" sizebytes="368148"></div><p>"He pursues everything with all he's got, with persistence and tenacity. At Hennessy, we admire him so much and believe the same things."</p><p>Allen added: "He fights for his family, and his community. These are similar tenets to what Hennessy embodies, as we were built on family, and believe in community."</p><p>Canelo defeated Golovkin by decision at the weekend, a day after Allen said Hennessy was always "confident in his capabilities because of who he is."</p><h2>Hennessy wanted to sponsor Canelo because of a 'philosophical alignment'</h2><p>It is a similar sentiment Allen expressed to Insider earlier this year ,when Hennessy was last in Las Vegas to promote its combat sports superstar Canelo.</p><p>"We chose Canelo because we felt that we had a philosophical alignment," Allen said.</p><p>The alignment focuses on family, community, and history, the Hennessy boss said.</p><p>Canelo's two fights in 2022 landed on significant weekends for Mexican fight fans — Cinco de Mayo, and Mexican Independence Day. There's been a celebration of Mexican culture in Las Vegas during both periods this summer.</p><p>"Our history with the Latinx community goes back very far," Allen said. "Since over two centuries ago, the first shipment of Cognac left the shores of Cognac in Western France, and landed on the shores of Mexico.</p><p>"Since then we have championed the Mexican community and also the Latinx community as a whole. This commitment has been part of the heritage of our brand, and we just continue to build on that."</p><div type="image" title="Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in a Hennessy ring." height="1403" width="2000" msid="94334480" hostid="261"></div><p>Canelo's celebrity hit a higher gear when he started publicly speaking English more frequently — something <a href="https://www.insider.com/saul-canelo-alvarez-more-money-than-god-2022-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">he wasn't always confident in doing, as Insider previously reported</a>.</p><p>But as English speakers heard him talk and began to understand his sense of humor, his stature in the sport grew.</p><p>"What Canelo sees now is that he truly is someone who can reach people, who can move people in his native Mexico but also across the world," Allen said.</p><h2>Canelo parties at Resorts World after his Las Vegas fights</h2><p>One of the benefits of having a drinks brand support you is, naturally, the after-party.</p><p>Hennessy holds exclusive affairs at some of the swankiest venues in Las Vegas throughout a Canelo fight week, but there is one at the very end which is always advertised.</p><p>Once Canelo has finished his fights at T-Mobile Arena and fulfilled his post-event media obligations, he is free to travel to Resorts World — a mid-Strip property — where a Hennessy Negroni, his favorite cocktail, awaits him at the Zouk nightclub.</p><div type="image" title="The Hennessy VSOP bottle, which Saul Canelo Alvarez likes." height="1332" width="2000" msid="94334482" hostid="261"></div><p>"A cocktail choice is a very personal choice," said Allen. It also blends beautifully in a cocktail. So, that kind of flexibility with VSOP, I think, is something that Canelo appreciates."</p><p>Victory over Golovkin was the 58th win of Canelo's career. It is unlikely the boxer will return to the ring until next May.</p><p>It is also unclear for how long he'll compete under the Matchroom banner as promoter Eddie Hearn has almost exhausted his roster for viable opponents. Bouts against Jermall Charlo, David Benavidez, and the winner of an end-of-year mega match between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford are available to Canelo should he leave Matchroom and DAZN for Premier Boxing Champions on Showtime.</p><p>But no matter the promoter, it appears there'll be one constant fixture in Canelo's fight weeks — Hennessy.</p>

He added that communities should consider having just one lit Christmas tree.</p><h2>The bigger picture</h2><p>Russia cut gas supplies to Europe in retaliation against Western sanctions imposed on Moscow after the invasion of Ukraine in February. Bivol bewildered Alvarez with feints and triple jabs, before closing the show in style.</p><h2>Burnt rubber, unlicensed vendors, and side moob</h2><div type="image" title="Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez's boxing fans gathered in 95F temperatures." height="1333" width="2000" msid="91413104" hostid="261"></div><p>A Canelo fight week on Cinco de Mayo weekend is like no other.</p><p>There's the smell of burnt rubber as a convoy of pickups revved their engines up Las Vegas Boulevard with the national flags of Mexico flapping in the breeze from the truck beds.</p><p>Unlicensed vendors braved temperatures in excess of 95 Fahrenheit to sell bootleg "Canelo" merch for miles outside the T-Mobile Arena.</p><p>And hairy men cosplayed as luchador wrestlers wearing nothing but colorful masks and ill-fitting lycra that exposed just the right amount of side moob.</p><p>For an entire week, the city of sin transformed into a relatively wholesome hub for boxing organizers to showcase Saul Alvarez as a father who brings his young daughter onto the stage with him, as a brand because Hennessy — Canelo's sponsor — held pre-parties and afterparties throughout the week, and, obviously, as a fighter, too. A fighter who wins, in style, regardless of which weight class he's campaigning in.</p><p>Except, Saturday, he lost.</p><p>A 175-pound title tilt against Bivol was one step too far as Canelo got bamboozled by a boxer at the top of his game, in a weight class he was far more comfortable in than Alvarez.</p><h2>The party started around 9 p.m. Saturday</h2><div type="image" title="Dmitry Bivol's ring walk." height="1000" width="2000" msid="91413105" hostid="261"></div><p>Bivol was resoundingly booed whenever jumbotron video cut to his entrance in the arena or showed footage of him warming up.</p><p>But that was nothing compared to the noise Canelo's partisan fans generated when he made his way to the ring as chants of "Mexico! Mexico! Mexico!" preceded a cacophony of jeers when the Russian athlete made a brisk walk to the ring.</p><p>A rumbling bassline accompanied Canelo's walk from backstage through the halls of the arena. An alarm was raised and then the bassline returned only to get increasingly louder like a merciless barrage of brutal blows that can reach inside your soul and shake your bones from within — fitting for a man from Guadalajara who puts his opponents into ambulances because they're as broken as they are beaten.</p><p>The national flag of Mexico got hoisted aloft in the arena as a platform raised the pound-for-pound king at the entrance.</p><p>There were pyrotechnics, fireworks, and chants of "Canelo! Canelo! Canelo!"</p><p>Despite the grand arrival, there was one man already in the ring, Bivol, who was ready to poop all over this party.</p><h2>The stage was set for a Canelo win but Bivol had other plans</h2><div type="image" title="Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez enters the arena with his characteristically calm confidence." height="1333" width="2000" msid="91413106" hostid="261"></div><p>An opening bell and triple jabs from Bivol reminded Canelo he was in with a boxer and not walking into a gathering in his honor. There was no time for celebrating. He was in a fight from the opening bell.</p><p>Midway through the round and Bivol triple jabbed again. Canelo swung hooks at both the head and body but while the intention was there, most of them missed.</p><p>Bivol had speed. He put punches into bunches in an astute manner as he varied his output from the body to the head. Canelo wanted to sap that pace by throwing knuckles into Bivol's gut. He finished the round by landing an uppercut to the face.</p><p>Canelo's uppercut returned in the second, as did a bruising hook to the cheek. Bivol, jab-happy, threw all kinds of variations to the leading shot. Sometimes as a pawing punch, other times more forceful, and then multiple ones in quick succession. Bang, bang, bang.</p><p>Canelo tried to power his way back into the fight in the second quarter with uppercuts and hooks but his action was mostly limited to singular power punches. Bivol, in comparison, would throw six shots in a row before Canelo eventually returned fire with another thudding blow.</p><p>Bivol's ability to throw point-scoring flurries became an ongoing story in this fight. Canelo, seemingly out of ideas, showboated in response by gesturing Bivol to keep on throwing.</p><p>Bivol's feints were confusing the challenger and, if the champion had more power, Canelo's night could have gotten off to a far worse start than it already had.</p><h2>Bivol out-thought, outboxed, and defeated Canelo</h2><div type="image" title="Dmitry Bivol beat Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez" height="1379" width="2000" msid="91413107" hostid="261"></div><p>On paper, the judges had it close. But, in the ring, Canelo was never ahead in this fight.</p><p>After a heroic fifth round from Bivol, Canelo began to switch strategies slightly in the sixth by becoming less reliant on solitary power shots and integrating combinations of blows into his arsenal instead. One-twos and three-shot combos were in the mix but Bivol finished the round strong as his rapid-fire fists put Canelo against the ropes.</p><p>Canelo rallied his crowd at the start of the ninth with solid boxing but Bivol responded by taking Canelo's uppercut away with expert forearm placement to defend the shot.</p><p>Through his relentless jabbing, methodical fighting, and ability to keep his opponent's powerful attack at bay, Bivol once again proved in yet another round that he had the blueprint to give boxing's No.1 fighter all kinds of hell.</p><p>This was never Canelo's fight. And it's all because his desire to earn the legacy he and his promoter Eddie Hearn craved, came unstuck when they ran into Bivol — a strong WBA light heavyweight world champion who showed the combat <keyword id="11893855" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="sports" source="Orion">sports</keyword> world that Alvarez can be out-thought, outboxed, and defeated.</p><p>Canelo has rarely been pressured like he was Saturday.</p><p>Canelo finished the fight by landing a career-low of 84 punches. His previous low was the 117 he landed in a defeat to Floyd Mayweather in 2013. Bivol, in contrast, threw an average of 59 shots per round, landing 13, tallying 152 shots landed by the end of the bout.</p><p>Bivol won a unanimous decision with a hat-trick of 115-113 scores but, really, they could — and should — have been wider.</p><p>Regardless, the right man won.</p><p>"He's a great champion, I respect him," Bivol said in his post-fight speech. "I feel his power. He beat my arm up. But not my head, it's better.</p><p>"Maybe his mistake was he threw only five punches. After only five punches he's relaxed and tired."</p><p>Canelo was magnanimous in defeat. "Sometimes in boxing, you win or you lose," he said. "I have no excuses — I lost. He won."</p><p>On whether he'll activate a rematch clause and fight Bivol once again, he added: "It doesn't end like this."</p><p>Said Bivol: "No problem."</p><p>Judging by the first fight, though, Canelo has it all to do if he is to avenge Saturday's defeat.</p>

While housing prices in the Boise-Nampa metro area <a href="https://www.fhfa.gov/AboutUs/Reports/ReportDocuments/HPI_2019Q2.pdf">rose faster than in any other city in the US</a> between 2018 and 2019, Idaho's per capita personal income <a href="https://www.bea.gov/data/income-saving/personal-income-by-state">ranks 44th in the nation.</a></p><p>But for those moving from out of state, Boise homes are still a bargain. Here are the three hottest areas to buy in Boise right now, according to local real-estate agents.</p><h2>Millennials are buying in the trendy Boise Bench area</h2><p>Stephanie Marshall, a marketing specialist at Group One Sotheby's International Realty in Boise, said the most popular neighborhood for buyers lately is the Boise Bench, which sits in central Boise overlooking downtown.</p><p>"This has become the sort of 'trendy' place for home buyers, specifically millennials," Marshall told Business Insider. "The homes on the Bench are typically older, with home buyers remodeling to their style. The location is close to downtown Boise, but far enough away that you're out of the chaos." </p><p class="source"><span>Google Maps</span></p><p class="caption">The Boise Bench is popular for younger home buyers.</p><p>Proximity to downtown is one of the main draws for younger buyers in Boise, according to local broker Eric DeBord, who owns <a href="http://www.redpheasantrealty.com/">Red Pheasant Realty.</a></p><p>Current listings on the Bench range from <a href="https://www.trulia.com/p/id/boise/4015-n-vera-st-boise-id-83704--2111708214">a single-story two-bedroom house in West Bench for $185,000</a> to a gated four-bedroom <a href="https://www.trulia.com/p/id/boise/1117-s-owyhee-st-boise-id-83705--2111716036">Dutch Colonial estate in Depot Bench</a>, which is closer to downtown, for $1.45 million.</p><h2>The North End has long been a coveted neighborhood with tree-lined streets and older homes</h2><p>Another longtime sought-after neighborhood is Boise's North End, according to local agents.</p><p>Boise's North End, which sits between downtown and the <a href="https://northend.org/boise-foothills/">Boise Foothills</a>, is <a href="https://www.niche.com/places-to-live/n/north-end-boise-id/">a liberal community full of young professionals</a>, bars and restaurants, and highly rated schools. According to Niche, the neighborhood is <a href="https://www.niche.com/places-to-live/n/north-end-boise-id/">one of the best places to live in Idaho.</a></p><p>The North End's appeal lies in its proximity to downtown, its mature trees, and the curb appeal with many of the city's older homes, according to DeBord and Jost.</p><p class="source"><span>Google Maps</span></p><p class="caption">The North End sits between downtown and the Boise Foothills.</p><p>Marshall highlighted <a href="https://northend.org/historic-hyde-park/">Hyde Park</a>, a compact retail area tucked away in the North End.</p><p>"The Hyde Park area in the North End is full of notable restaurants, boutiques, specialty shops and parks," she told Business Insider. Just don't expect any of the main attractions to be open.</p><p>Thursday, Disney Parks announced it will open part of Disney California Adventure (DCA) on November 19 to the public as part of an expansion to its current Downtown Disney experience in Anaheim, California. </p><p>Disneyland Resort's shopping district reopened earlier this summer in July while the two theme parks, California Adventure and Disneyland, remain closed pending California state and local government approvals to reopen.</p><p>What does that mean and what can you expect? Insider has visited the Downtown Disney area twice in anticipation of the partial DCA reopening. Here's everything you should know about Disneyland Resort's Downtown Disney expansion. </p><h2><strong>What part of the park will be open? Buena Vista Street.</strong></h2><div type="image" title="downtown disneyland buena vista street" height="1375" width="2000" msid="79092543" hostid="261"></div><p>In October, Disney Parks announced it will extend the shopping experience into the main street area of DCA. For those who aren't familiar, Buena Vista Street extends from DCA's main gate and veers down the park to the left-hand side.</p><p>The boulevard is decorated with stores and several eateries meant to reflect the Los Angeles neighborhood where Walt Disney lived when he first arrived in Southern California in 1923. For the Downtown Disney expansion, Buena Vista Street will expand into part of DCA's Grizzly Peak land to access Smokejumper's Grill.</p><p><strong>Here's how that looks on the Disneyland app:</strong></p><div type="image" title="buena vista street downtown disney disneyland" height="600" width="854" msid="79092545" hostid="261"></div><h2><strong>You will not be entering DCA through its main gates. </strong></h2><div type="image" title="disney california adventure gate" height="1500" width="2000" msid="79092546" hostid="261"></div><p>Because the theme park is not officially open, guests will not be entering DCA through its usual entrance. </p><p>A Disneyland Resort representative confirmed to Insider that guests will be entering the park through a separate gate closer to Downtown Disney. More dining options and some exclusive park items.</strong></h2><p>During a recent visit to Downtown Disney, a cast member told Insider there will be some exclusive merchandise that is typically only available in the parks. Retail stores that will be open include Elias &amp; Company, Julius Katz &amp; Sons, Kingswell Camera Shop, and Trolley Treats.</p><div type="image" title="elias and company downtown disney disneyland" height="853" width="1280" msid="79092550" hostid="261"></div><p>Guests will also be able to visit a few dining experiences. Here's what they'll offer:</p><ul><li>Fiddler, Fifer &amp; Practical Cafe will offer hot chocolate and cranberry orange scones.</li><li>Award Weiners will have soft drinks and hot dogs.</li><li>Carthay Circle Restaurant will be transformed into an outdoor dining experience called Carthay Circle Lounge — Alfresco Dining, which will offer Mediterranean-California food. Wine, craft beers, and cocktails will also be available.</li><li>Smokejumpers Grill will have bacon cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, onion rings, waffle fries, kids' meals, and vanilla and chocolate shakes a little farther down in Grizzly Peak land.</li></ul><p>It's worth mentioning that Disney may use a mobile wait list system to manage the number of guests shopping when a location or queue is at capacity. </p><h2><strong>Will I have to pay to access this new expanded area? At this time, you'll only need to pay for parking.</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="disneyland downtown disney parking lot.JPG" height="1500" width="2000" msid="79092551" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>Up until now, Downtown Disney visitors have been able to park free in the Simba parking lot, right off of Interstate 5. It is currently the only Disney parking lot open to the public.</p><p>Typically, that parking lot is a bit pricey. During normal operations, it's either $14/hour or $56/day to park in the lot which gives visitors some of the easiest access to the parks, Downtown Disney, and the Disneyland Hotel.</p><p>Starting November 19, guests will be asked to pay $10 to park in the lot.</p><p>Insider confirmed with a Disneyland Resort representative visitors will not need to pay extra in order to step inside the Downtown Disney expansion at DCA at this time. Insider was told it is possible there may be a charge in the future to enter DCA, but for now, it will remain available to the public at no extra cost.</p><h2><strong>What you should know before you go: Masks, temperature checks, and when you should arrive.</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="disneyland temperature screening signs" height="1875" width="2500" msid="79092552" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>If you're used to getting up really early to get to Disneyland to try and get on the new "Star Wars" attraction, you can rest easy knowing you can sleep in a little. Unlike the theme parks, the Downtown Disney district opens up at 10 a.m. local time each morning. </p><p>Even if you arrive at the park early, Disneyland Resort will not open its parking lot until some time between 9:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m local time. (We know because we arrived way too early on our first attempt and wound up circling Disneyland Drive quite a few times. <a href="https://i.insider.com/5fa5cd03f7d1cb0019e3a5b7">Don't do that</a>.)</p><div type="image" title="disneyland downtown disney car line.JPG" height="1403" width="2000" msid="79092553" hostid="261"></div><p>During our recent visits, we waited in a little bit of a line to get into the parking lot during the 9 a.m. hour on a Sunday. We had no wait to get in on a weekday, though the parking lot was already filling up by the time we parked at 10:15 a.m. local time.</p><p>Once you're parked, you'll go through three short checkpoints that require a quick temperature scan, walking past a trained K-9, and then a bag check (if you have one). We quickly moved through all three of these without any wait both times we visited. From our experience, cast members did a good job of ensuring a group of people was never in any one section crowded together at once.</p><div type="image" title="downtown disney entrance" height="2700" width="1200" msid="79092555" hostid="261"></div><p>We recommend heading to the area early. During both our visits, we never stayed past noon as it started to get a bit busier. For more than half the year, temperatures <a href="https://services.dubaiairports.ae/dubaimet/MET/Climate.aspx">are regularly around 105 degrees Fahrenheit</a><span> </span>and have gone as high as 119 degrees Fahrenheit, with plenty of humidity. It makes being outside for more than a few minutes unbearable.</li><li>Dubai has developed into a series of climate-controlled indoor spaces including more than <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dubai-mall-worlds-second-largest-mall-2018-11">65 malls</a>, apartment buildings with entire indoor cities attached, and car-centric design that discourages walking outside. You can spend entire days without ever stepping outside.</li></ul><p>It's become more clear than ever this year that climate change is very real and that we are already seeing the effects.</p><p>A new report <span><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-un-has-warned-that-we-only-have-12-years-to-curb-climate-change-2018-10">by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change</a> (IPCC) released in October detailed how even just half a degree of rise in the world's temperature would result in severe, catastrophic effects.</span></p><p><span>As Business Insider's <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ipcc-climate-change-report-why-2-degree-warming-is-dangerous-2018-10">Kevin Loria summed up</a>: That half of a degree will make drought-prone regions much more likely to experience severe drought, and areas prone to heat waves or intense hurricanes will get more of those disasters, too. These factors could trigger huge migrations of people and mass extinctions of animals. </span></p><p><span>In short, the climate will get a lot less livable, particularly in places already vulnerable to high temperatures.</span></p><p><span>As I hung out in Dubai last month, it struck me that the city's severe climate and its adaptation to that climate was a good approximation of what I imagine living with the severe effects of climate change to be.</span></p><p>During Dubai's long summer, stretching from mid-April through October, temperatures make it unbearable to be outside for more than a few minutes. Temperatures<span> </span><a href="https://services.dubaiairports.ae/dubaimet/MET/Climate.aspx">are regularly around 105 degrees Fahrenheit</a><span> </span>(41 degrees Celsius) and have gone as high as 119 degrees Fahrenheit (48 degrees Celsius), with plenty of humidity.</p><p>The city's adaptation to that climate? A proliferation of interconnected climate-controlled spaces, including more than <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dubai-mall-worlds-second-largest-mall-2018-11">65 malls</a>, residential and office buildings with entire indoor cities attached, metros, and indoor parking lots. </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://www.instagram.com/harrisonxjacobs/">Harrison Jacobs/Business Insider</a></span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>For a certain social millieu - I'm talking native Emiratis and the wealthy expats with white-collar jobs - one could go entire days or weeks during the summer without stepping outside. You go from your air-conditioned apartment in a residential skyscraper to the indoor parking lot, and then drive to your office, park in the indoor lot, and head upstairs to the office skyscraper.</p><p>If you need to do grocery shopping or pick up a present, there are likely retail stores, grocery stores, or an entire retail complex attached to your office building or apartment building.</p><p><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://www.instagram.com/harrisonxjacobs/">Harrison Jacobs/Business Insider</a></span></p></div><p></p></div></div></span></p><p>If you want to spend a Saturday out with your family, grab coffee with a colleague, or enjoy an "al fresco" dinner and a movie, you are likely doing it inside at The Dubai Mall, a $2 billion complex with <span> 1,200 stores, hundreds of restaurants, a movie theater, a luxury hotel, an Olympic-size ice-skating rink, a virtual-reality theme park, and an aquarium. Or, perhaps you'll visit one of Dubai's dozens of other megamalls with similar amenities that blur the line between mall and city block.</span></p><p><span>Meanwhile, for the hundreds of thousands of migrant workers in Dubai who aren't lucky enough to live in air-conditioned megacomplexes, Dubai can be a hellscape during the summer - just as the climate might be for the developing countries that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-countries-escape-climate-change-map-2018-1">will be hardest hit by the effects of climate change</a>.</span></p><p><span>Dubai is getting so good at simulating the outdoors inside that its next megaproject is dedicated to just that. Dubai Square, set to become the world's largest mall, is built around a four-lane "boulevard" that mimics a wide city street, a piazza, and an entertainment center for concerts and theater shows. </span><span>It will even have<a href="https://www.arabianbusiness.com/retail/401410-revealed-dubai-square-project-set-to-dwarf-dubai-mall"> the Middle East's largest Chinatown</a>.</span></p><p><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Dubai Holdings</span></p><p class="caption">A rendering of "The Boulevard" at Dubai Square, currently under construction.</p></div><p></p></div></div></span></p><p><span>The net effect of this kind of development is that nearly all "public" or "social" space in the city is a corporatized shopping destination.<br /></span></p><p>"[In the UAE] the mall is a social space, not just a shopping space," Justin Thomas, an associate professor of psychology at Zayed University, wrote for<span> </span><a href="https://www.pressreader.com/uae/the-national-news/20140414/282230893675225">The National</a><span> </span>in 2014.</p><p>"The mall is where three generations of the same family take an evening stroll; the mall is where the Abu Dhabi Readers (a book club) meet to discuss works of literature."</p><p>When you can't hang out in social spaces outside, whether it's due to a severe climate or pollution, you find indoor spaces to do so.</p><p>It's hard to say that's de-facto bad when such malls and climate-controlled spaces are providing livable spaces outside of the home in a city that desperately needs them. Where To Watch The Super Bowl In New York City

<p dir="ltr"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Donna Karan and Demi Moore are just two among many celebrities who have raved about the diet regime that just about everyone associates with Gwyneth Paltrow.</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> Indeed, if celebrity endorsements were proof of a product's effectiveness, the Clean Cleanse that Gwyneth is always talking about would be beyond criticism. </span></p><p dir="ltr"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">So it seems to me that the obvious place to start my investigation of the cleanse is in London, home of Gwyneth's booming e-commerce company, Goop. </span></p><p dir="ltr"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">I figure I will ask the employees of Goop about the Gwyneth-inspired cleanse experience before I try it myself. Gwyneth often writes about it in her Goop blogs. </span></p><p dir="ltr"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">She has said, "This thing is amazing," that it "worked wonders," and that it made her feel "pure and happy and much lighter." She has also noted that it is something that she does with the whole "Goop team."</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Given the warm and friendly vibe on the Goop website - it was, after all, to quote the website, "created to celebrate all life's positives" - I am expecting a warm and happy vibe at Goop HQ.</span></p><p dir="ltr">I am mistaken.</p><p dir="ltr">I ring the buzzer to request entry to the second-floor office. No response. I try again and then again. Still no response. I implement Plan B. As a courier is buzzed up, I do the classic foot-in-the-door move. I feel like Jason Bourne.</p><p dir="ltr">I confidently walk up to the Goop receptionist and give her a friendly hello. She does not say, "May I help you?" or even "Do you have an appointment?"</p><p dir="ltr"><div class="KonaFilter image-container"><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div>Instead I get a blank Goopless stare. Undaunted, I ask to see someone about the cleanse, trying my best to give the impression that I am here for a prearranged meeting. She looks at me as if I am a homeless man asking for spare change.</p><p dir="ltr">In other words, she doesn't look at me.</p><p dir="ltr">She picks up the phone - still not a word to me - to tell someone about my presence in the office. Then I wait. And wait. Just when I start to fear a Goop security guard will appear, doubtless wearing a tasteful Stella McCartney - inspired ensemble, a young woman approaches me.</p><p dir="ltr">"You're here to talk about the Clean Cleanse?" she says brightly.</p><p dir="ltr">"That's right," I say. "I'd really like to know more about what actually takes place in the cleanse. I want to get some details about the process and the <keyword id="41551" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="science">science</keyword> behind it."</p><p dir="ltr">She smiles. "Wha<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">t a good idea."</span></p><p dir="ltr">"Thank you," I say. "Who would you suggest I speak with?" I imagine Gwyneth herself now cooperating with my investigation.</p><p dir="ltr">"I would say Dhru Purohit," says the charming young lady.</p><p dir="ltr">I take out my notebook, expecting her to lead me down the hall to the office of said person.</p><p dir="ltr">"And where would I find him?"</p><p dir="ltr">"Santa Monica, I believe." Her smile now is accompanied by an arched eyebrow.</p><p dir="ltr">"Which is where the Clean Program is based. You know that, right? That they're the company that makes the Clean Cleanse?"</p><p dir="ltr"><div class="KonaFilter image-container"><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div>I close my notebook. Jason Bourne did not have to implement Plan B to exit the building.</p><p dir="ltr">After a few phone calls and e-mails about my desire to do the cleanse, Dhru Purohit has a kit sent to my house (the usual price is $425). He also invites me to the Santa Monica office to obtain some precleanse advice and to meet the guru himself, Dr. Alejandro Junger.</p><p dir="ltr">The building is inconspicuous. It is not the type of structure you would expect for the head office of a wildly successful diet company.</p><p dir="ltr">The Cle<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">an Program has produced several international best-selling books and tens of thousands of Clean Cleanses, which the company website heralds as "the most endorsed, supported and effective cleanse in the world."</span></p><p dir="ltr"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>And yet its offices, just a block off Los Angeles's often-sung-about Santa Monica Boulevard, look like a modest walk-up apartment.</p><p dir="ltr">"Do they live here?" I wonder as I approach the door.</p><p dir="ltr">There is no sign announcing the name of the company. There isn't even a nameplate. There is just a buzzer.</p><p dir="ltr">But if the building is understated, its occupants are not. When it comes to life's positives, the Goop team in London could learn a thing or two from Dhru Purohit.</p><p dir="ltr">This guy is fun. He is all energy, enthusiasm, and commitment.</p><p dir="ltr">"Hey, Tim!" Purohit says with a big, welcoming smile as soon as the door swings open.</p><p dir="ltr"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>He invites me into the company's modern work space, which looks more like an open-concept home than a business.</p><p dir="ltr">No offices, cubicles, or desks in sight-just a large kitchen and several comfy-looking sofas and chairs. Purohit tells me he is "a Sherpa of sorts." He's a guy who "enjoys guiding people and communities through the world of holistic healing and spiritual living."</p><p dir="ltr">And he believes in the cleanse product the way Napoleon believed in the flexible use of artillery. It may not be easy to implement, but it can change the world.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p dir="ltr">Dr. Junger is scheduled to arrive in a few minutes, so I take the time to ask Purohit about what I view as the biggest challenge associated with the cleanse: no coffee.</p><p dir="ltr">"I am a coffee addict," I tell him. "I love coffee. I cannot stress this enough. It is central to my very existence. Are you sure I must give it up?"</p><p dir="ltr">"You must give your adrenals a rest," he explains. "And you must remove the dependency. The idea that you need coffee to function, long term, stresses your adrenals. Your adrenals are your energy bank account."</p><p dir="ltr">I will hear the word adrenal - which, I assume, is a reference to the hormones secreted by the adrenal glands - approximately nine thousand times during my interactions with the Clean Program teams.</p><p dir="ltr">Adrenal glands. Adrenal fatigue. Adrenal stress. Adrenal rest.</p><p dir="ltr">Moments later Junger arrives. I will say this about the man: he projects a relaxed energy. He's got his adrenals in check, obviously.</p><p dir="ltr">Junger is a physician from Uruguay.</p><p dir="ltr">He is the inventor of the Clean Cleanse and is often described in the popular press as Gwyneth Paltrow's doctor, though "spiritual leader" would probably be more accurate.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p dir="ltr">Indeed, Gwyneth's best-selling cookbook, It's All Good, is dedicated to, among others, Junger, whom she describes as "my good friend."</p><p dir="ltr">The book contains recipes inspired by Junger's diet and health philosophy. I visited the headquarters of Gwyneth Paltrow's company, and it wasn't how I thought it would be
