During the corresponding period of last fiscal, the company had reported a net loss of Rs 2,866 crore. The company, however, reported a 15.4 per cent year-on-year increase in its revenue for operations at Rs 23,938.7 crore during the quarter ended June. In a regulatory filing, the company said that the net exceptional charge of Rs 11,745.7 crore during the quarter ended June 30, 2020 comprises of a charge on account of incremental provision and interest on license fee and spectrum usage charges of Rs 10,744.4 crore and net charge pertaining to re-assessment of levies of Rs 1,001.3 crore. "Net tax benefit due to the above exceptional items; net charge due to re-assessment of deferred tax assets and adoption of '<keyword id="9667484" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="vivad-se">Vivad Se</keyword> Vishwas Scheme 2020' above and deferred tax asset pertaining to one of the subsidiary recognised in this quarter, aggregating Rs 36,432 mn (Rs 3,643.2 crore) is included under <keyword id="2228736" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="tax-expense">tax expense</keyword> (credit)," it said "As a result, the overall net exceptional charge (after tax) is Rs 153,889 mn (Rs 15,388.9 crore).The net share allocated to non-controlling interests on the above exceptional items is Rs 1,080 mn (Rs 108 crore)," it added. Airtel logs $2 billion loss as it sets aside money for regulatory dues

The media business of Network18 that RIL acquired in 2014 is a loss-making entity. The group owns the television channels of Eenadu TV along with those of Network18 like CNBCTV18 and CNN-IBN, Colours and more. It also owns multiple websites like moneycontrol and Firstpost. The news of a possible sale and cash flowing also boosted the stock price. At the AGM in August, Ambani also said that he has plans to carve out retail and Jio into separate entities to unlock value. The announcement came on Monday as Jio revealed its quarterly results, showcasing staggering numbers and milestones achieved in various segments. As of March 2024, Jio boasts a subscriber base of 481.8 million, out of which 108 million subscribers are on Jio's True5G Standalone network. The number reflects Jio's stronghold in the Indian telecom market. According to a press release, the total traffic on the Jio network has reached 40.9 Exabytes, marking a 35.2 per cent year-on-year increase. This surge is attributed to the growing adoption of 5G and Home services. Notably, 28 per cent of the traffic comes from 5G subscribers, indicating a swift transition towards next-generation connectivity. Additionally, Jio's Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services have contributed significantly to the data traffic. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a dramatic 2.4x increase in annual data traffic, with per capita monthly data usage skyrocketing to 28.7 GB from just 13.3 GB three years ago. This surge underscores the growing reliance on digital connectivity in India. Commenting on the results, <keyword id="3820" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani" source="Orion">Mukesh Ambani</keyword>, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, expressed his satisfaction with the company's performance and its contribution to the Indian economy. He highlighted the significant achievements, including becoming the first Indian company to cross the Rs 100,000-crore threshold in pre-tax profits. Ambani said, "Initiatives across RIL's businesses have made a remarkable contribution towards fostering growth of various sectors of the Indian economy. In addition to its telecom and retail segments, Reliance Industries Limited has shown resilience in its Oil to Chemicals (O2C) segment, despite challenging market conditions. The KG-D6 block has achieved significant production milestones, accounting for 30 per cent of India's domestic gas production. Ambani emphasised, "Strong demand for fuels globally, and limited flexibility in refining system worldwide, supported margins and profitability of the O2C segment. Downstream chemical industry experienced increasingly challenging market conditions through the year." He added, "Despite headwinds, maintaining leading product positions and feedstock flexibility through our operating model that prioritises cost management, we delivered a resilient performance. The KG-D6 block has achieved 30 MMSCMD of production and now accounts for 30 per cent of India's domestic gas production." In terms of financial performance, Reliance Jio has achieved several remarkable milestones. The consolidated EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) at Rs 178,677 crore, while the consolidated Profit Before Tax (PBT) has surpassed Rs 100,000 crore. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image">PwCElaine Florentino, an associate at PwC, is getting an employee benefit that helps her with her student loan debt.</div></div></div>Elaine Florentino, 23, graduated from Bentley University in 2014 with a degree in accounting and again in 2015 with a masters in taxation.Along with her two degrees, she took home about $57,000 in student loan debt.Florentino, who lives in Boston, Massachusetts with her 5-year-old son Elijah, is in a unique position when it comes to paying that debt back, however.As an associate for big four consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, she's taken full advantage of a new, unique company benefit currently only available at the Boston office: monthly payments toward her outstanding student loans."When you graduate and you're straight out of college, you're kind of the only one carrying that burden," Florentino told Business Insider. "When someone helps you, it makes you feel appreciated."The program, called the <a href="http://www.pwc.com/us/en/careers/experienced/why-pwc/employee-benefits.html" target="_blank">Student Loan Paydown</a> (SLP), is administered by Boston start-up <a href="https://www.gradifi.com/employer" target="_blank">Gradifi</a> and is currently in a pilot phase. When it launches to the larger company on July 1, the program will contribute $100 a month to employees who have student loan debt. Employees will receive up to $1,200 annually for up to six years, or until the employee is promoted to a manager role - whichever comes first.The total amount could be worth about $10,000, thanks to the effect of extra payments on the loan interest, and might help shave off 2-3 years of debt, according to Michael Fenlon, global talent leader at PwC.PwC is one of the few private US companies offering this employee benefit as part of an initiative to help alleviate student loan debt, which is currently at a national high of<a href="http://ticas.org/posd/map-state-data-2015" target="_blank"> $1.3 trillion and affects over 40 million people in the US.</a> "The impact here is not just for individuals, but for a crisis in the US," Fenlon said. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image">PwCElaine Florentino is one of 76 employees who are part of the firm's pilot program. This may be in part because, unlike 401(k) contributions and tuition reimbursement, student loan debt assistance is not tax-deductible. In fact, the amount gets taxed as income for the employee.With the "<a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/1713" target="_blank">Employer Participation in Student Loan Assistance Act</a>," however, things might change. This bill was proposed by Congressman Rodney Davis (R-IL) and Congresswoman Gwen Graham (D-Fl), to make repayment assistance tax-free just like tuition reimbursement is. Florentino, who devoted $451 every month to her loans after paying expenses for herself and her son, initially expected her payments would take 10 years and that with interest, she would ultimately pay a total of about $80,000 to her lender. With the SLP benefit, she expects to finish paying her loans a year early, and for at least $8,000 less.Signing up for the program was easy, Florentino says. As one of 76 employees in the SLP pilot program, she had to register her private and federal loans, a total of $57,000, with the company's database so they could verify the loans and ensure they are, in fact, student loans (rather than personal loans). After that, the process "became seamless," and she started seeing the payment go straight to her student loan account every month. Though the pilot program just started this past January, Florentino is excited for the results it can bring."I feel much better about my student debt," Florentino said. "It's kind of like a light at the end of the tunnel.
