India’s richest tech billionaires in 2024, as per Forbes

<ul><li>The <keyword id="8205065" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="forbes-100-richest-indians">Forbes 100 Richest Indians</keyword> list puts Shiv Nadar on top as the country’s richest tech billionaire worth $14.4 billion. </li><li>Wipro chairman Azim Premji ranks second with a net worth of $7.2 billion. </li><li>The list also sees the debut of Byju Raveendran, who is the youngest billionaire on the list and the only one who is under 40 years old. </li></ul>The richest of the rich when it comes to India’s digital economy include a few familiar faces, and a few brand new ones. On the one hand, the list is dominated by regulars like HCL’s Shiv Nadar and Wipro’s Azim Premji. On the other, start up founders like Paytm’s Vijay Shekhar Sharma and Byju founder Byju Raveendran are also working their way up the list. It should be noted that when it comes to technology sector, Infosys seems to be in the business of creating billionaires. <ul><li>The Hurun Research Institute released a list of the top 100 billionaires, a few of whom are from the technology sector.</li><li>India’s richest tech billionaire is Wipro chairman, Azim Premji but he’s given away 30% more money than his own net worth. </li><li>Vijay Shekhar Sharma is India’s fourth richest tech billionaire but the only start up guy on the list.</li></ul>India’s digital economy is growing, and is filling the coffers of innovators and others. The IIFL Wealth Hurun Report India ranks the richest of Indians — and quite a few of them are from the technology sector. Unlike other industries, globally tech billionaires are self-made, and come from humble beginnings. While India has a few who had legacy businessmen, a new set of entrepreneurs who bet on new-age technology like cloud, mobile payments and digital ad platforms also managed to make their moolah and hence made it to the list. India’s richest tech billionaires in 2019

<ul><li>Indian IT industry’s czar, <keyword id="6419840" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Azim-Premji">Azim Premji</keyword>, is the <keyword id="8148312" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="richest-tech-billionaire">richest tech billionaire</keyword> in the country worth $16.5 billion. </li><li>In the past, Premji has stated that being rich does not ‘thrill him.’</li><li>Currently, his donations to charity are greater than his net worth at $21 billion.</li></ul>Wipro’s Azim Premji — the czar of the Indian IT industry — didn’t top the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich list for this year but he’s still the richest tech billionaire. The only two people richer than him are Mukesh Ambani and the Hinduja family. He’s also the only tech billionaire in the top ten of the list. But, that’s not what sets him apart. Premji’s <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/wipro-chairman-azim-premji-has-now-increased-his-charity-contribution-to-a-total-of-21-billion/articleshow/68395458.cms">total contribution to philanthropy</a> currently stands at ₹148,925 crore ($21 billion). That’s greater 30% greater than his current net worth of ₹117,100 crore ($16.5 billion), according to the report by Hurun Report India and IIFL Wealth Management. There’s no ‘thrill’ to being rich Premji has appeared among the ‘100 Most Influential People’ by TIME Magazine twice — in 2004 and again in 2011. In 2013, he agreed to give away half of his wealth when he signed the The Giving Pledge — an initiative led by two of the richest men in the world, Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. He was the first Indian to sign up for the campaign stating that being rich ‘did not thrill him’. Earlier this year, Premji set aside 34% of Wipro’s shares for his charity — the Azim Premji Foundation. Adding up earlier donations, 67% of Premji’s shares are now earmarked for the charity. The Azim Premji Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that has been working towards improving the elementary education system in rural government schools since 2000. Adani's wealth cratered after US short-seller Hindenburg Research <a href="https://hindenburgresearch.com/adani/" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">alleged in a scathing January 24 report</a> that the Adani Group "engaged in a brazen stock manipulation and accounting fraud scheme over the course of decades."
