He resigned his role as chairman effective immediately and his last day as CEO is October. 31.</p>
<p>Another cofounder, Shawn Colo, is stepping up to be interim CEO.</p>
<p>The company did not say why they were making the change but at least one analyst isn't all that surprised. Founded in 2006, the company was considered a <keyword id="6354777" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Media">media</keyword> experiment. It created content using a network of freelancers and made money by selling ads. Its how-to articles and videos were designed to do well in search results. Its websites include eHow, Livestrong and Cracked.</p>
<p>Demand Media went public in 2011. But shortly after its IPO, Google <a href="http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/02/25/google-tweaks-algorithm-to-push-down-low-quality-sites/?_r=0">changed its algorithm to stop giving high search results</a> to so-called "low-quality" sites.</p>
<p>Such changes hurt Demand Media and sent the company into "<span id="articleText">overall strategic drift</span>," Jordan Rohan, an analyst with Stifel, wrote in a note to investors, <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/10/14/us-demandmedia-ceo-idUSBRE99D0P220131014">reports Reuters Jennifer Saba.</a></p>
<p>The stock was trading below $6, down 44% from a high of $10.50 this year and <a href="http://money.cnn.com/2011/01/26/technology/demand_media_IPO/">well below its IPO price of $17.</a></p>

Now it is only worth about a quarter of that, and its founder and original chief innovation officer are<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/demand-media-rosenblatt-is-out-2013-10"> no longer with the company</a>.</p>
<p>As <a href="http://variety.com/2013/biz/news/epic-fail-the-rise-and-fall-of-demand-media-1200914646/">Variety reports</a>, it turns out that <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> was a key player in the company's downfall.</p>
<p><keyword id="258118" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Richard-Rosenblatt">Richard Rosenblatt</keyword> co-founded Demand in 2006 as a "<a href="http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-11-08/demand-media-losing-its-demand">content farm</a>" that would take advantage of search engine optimization. The how-to site eHow would provide easy-to-produce content for targeted ads, and the domain registration site eNom would crank out sites with generic names to serve as homes to only ads.</p>
<p>This collection of 1 million spammy sites was incredibly successful, making $100,000 per day.</p>
<p>Demand eventually expanded its less-profitable content production side by paying contributors around 20 bucks for every post or video they produced.</p>
<p>A quick look at <a href="http://www.ehow.com/how_8675501_pour-finish-cement.html">eHow.com</a> shows that even today, many posts are often quite vague, and on pages cluttered with ads. But at the time, some speculators thought content farming was the future. Yahoo <a href="http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/07/09/yahoo-takes-a-gander-at-demand-media-to-plug-some-holes/">considered buying the firm</a> in 2008, as did AOL.</p>
<p>Soon after Demand went public in January 2011, things started to fall apart.</p>
<p>Google changed its search algorithm in February of that year to keep users from clicking on low quality, spammy pages that found their way into top results. This version of the algo was called Panda, and Google continues to update it. Its refinement scared investors, which included Goldman Sachs.</p>
<p>According to Google, <a href="http://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/google-algorithm-updates-2013-list">low-quality sites</a> have "numerous paid links, are mostly empty, contain thin content, and have too many ads." That's basically the definition of a Demand-type content farm. </p>
<p>Later in 2011, Google hit Demand again when it gave up on a $100 million effort to promote TV-style content channels on YouTube, of which Demand owned three.</p>
<p>Demand's network, which includes <a href="http://www.livestrong.com/">LiveStrong.com</a> (separate from Lance Armstrong's organization following last year's scandal) and <a href="http://www.cracked.com/">Cracked.com</a>, got 52.1 million uniques in October, down 35 percent. A full 46.1 million hits came from eHow.</p>
<p>In its third quarter earnings report from November, Demand <a href="http://ir.demandmedia.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=215358&amp;p=irol-newsArticle&amp;ID=1874072&amp;highlight=">continued to blame</a> "declines in search referral traffic and <keyword id="35666" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="advertising">advertising</keyword> demand," for its losses.</p>
<p>Revenue at its domain registration business, however, was up 11 percent from last year. Demand plans to spin it off, <a href="http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-11-08/demand-media-losing-its-demand">reports Bloomberg</a>.</p>
<p>Saul Hansell, who used to run AOL's former content farm Seed.com, <a href="http://variety.com/2013/biz/news/epic-fail-the-rise-and-fall-of-demand-media-1200914646/">told Variety</a> that Demand's dramatic fall over seven years wasn't just Google's fault.</p>
<p>"Using cheap freelancers who don't have the expertise doesn't work. The cumulative effect was that millions of people went to eHow and other sites, and realized they didn't have the answer to their questions."</p>

<p><em>Today's advice comes from <keyword id="258118" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Richard-Rosenblatt">Richard Rosenblatt</keyword></em>, <em>Chairman and CEO at Demand Media, via <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/today/post/article/20130114023521-84166298-failure-helps-you-succeed-but-only-if-you-acknowledge-it-openly?trk=mp-details-pymf-mpost">his LinkedIn blog</a>:</em></p>
<p><em></em>"Create a culture where failure in areas where you KNOW you are taking risk is celebrated. To be more specific, create a culture where <em>well executed </em>failure in non-core areas of your business is celebrated, in order to keep innovation thriving within your organization. This is not a traditional way of looking at failure. Many companies shut down projects, blame the team blindly and never say a word broadly."</p>
<p>Rosenblatt says that instead of viewing the glass as half empty, you should view it as half full. Most importantly, its about learning from your mistakes. If you can't use a bad experience as an opportunity to evolve, than your company will never grow. The hard part is convincing everyone else on your team to do the same.</p>
<p>"It won’t come easy for everyone to switch gears. You may find you encounter detractors who think you are being too lenient and not holding people accountable. Listen carefully to their frustration...and explain to them that without innovation a company cannot thrive."</p>

Autograph boasts a team with several big business names, including Lionsgate CEO Jon Filthier and Live Nation Entertainment CEO Michael Rapino, as well as three of the founders of DraftKings.</p><p>There has been <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-does-nft-mean-crytpo-non-fungible-tokens-art-explained-2021-2">a boom in interest in digital collectible</a> in recent months. Items that function as non-fungible tokens or <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-are-people-buying-nfts-investing-in-nft-crypto-art-2021-3#:~:text=The%20CEO%20of%20SuperRare%2C%20another,also%20spawned%20entire%20communities%20online.">NFTs have generated millions of dollars in sales</a>. When someone buys an NFT they gain the rights to the unique token on the blockchain that acts as a digital certificate of authenticity. The token can gain value due to its relation to its creator or content. For example, tokens that represent memes like the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ethereum-nft-meme-art-nyan-cat-sells-for-300-eth-2021-2">Nyan Cat</a> can gain in value as they increase in popularity online, though the NFT buyer is not be able to control the image's distribution.</p><p>The NFT market has been especially profitable for sports. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nba-top-shot-virtual-highlights-for-sale-moments-blockchain-explained-2021-2">The site NBA Top Shot, which allows people to buy NBA sports clips, recently received a $2 billion valuation from NFT tracking site DappRadar</a>. Top NBA clips, including a LeBron James dunk moment, have sold for over $200,000 on the platform.</p><p>As an NFL legend, Brady NFTs would likely see similar high sales. Yesterday a Brady rookie card sold for about $2.3 million - <a href="https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2938832-tom-brady-2000-playoff-contenders-championship-rookie-ticket-sells-for-19m">smashing the record for the most expensive football trading card sale, according to Bleacher Report.</a></p><p>Brady himself is no stranger to selling his personal brand. In February, Brady merchandise sales set records as he became the best-selling NFL player ever, according to <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-football-nfl-tb-brady-merchandise/tom-brady-merchandise-sets-sales-record-idUSKBN2A30D4">Reuters</a>. </p><p>Autograph isn't Brady's first company. In 2013, the football star launched TB12, a sports performance and nutrition company.</p>

It meant <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-suspended-some-business-with-huawei-after-trump-blacklist-2019-5?r=US&amp;IR=T" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Google took the decision to cut off Huawei</a>'s access to its Android operating system.</p><p>In response, Huawei - <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/huawei-surpasses-apple-as-second-largest-smartphone-maker-2019-5?r=US&amp;IR=T" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the world's second-biggest phone maker</a> - has been ramping up plans for its own operating system, which it wants to release by early 2020, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/huawei-os-could-replace-google-android-by-early-2020-2019-5?r=US&amp;IR=T" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to Richard Yu, the CEO of Huawei's consumer division</a>.</p><p>"Today, Huawei, we are still committed to Microsoft Windows and Google Android. The countries include Peru, Cambodia, Canada, South Korea, and New Zealand, Reuters said, citing data from UN World Intellectual Property Organization. Huawei has already reportedly received trademark clearance in China.</p><p>As well as trademarking the software, Huawei is also shipping devices test devices. Citing figures from investment bank Rosenblatt Securities, <a href="http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/a/201906/11/WS5cfeeebda31017657723067f.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">state-owned newspaper China Daily</a> said Huawei has made 1 million devices available with the software. The software is said to be compatible with all Android apps.</p><p>Huawei did not immediately respond to a request for comment.</p><p>Even if Huawei does successfully release Hongmeng, it faces a battle to keep its position as one of the world's biggest phone makers. US stocks drop for a second day after a strong jobs report dents the odds of a Fed rate cut

<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>A new video-sharing app called Whipclip just launched on the Apple App Store on Thursday.</span></p><p>Whipclip allows you to take up to a minute-long clip of live TV or past shows (as well as music videos), and share it through social media, text message, or email. It basically allows you to create and share your favorite TV moments within seconds - legally.</p><p>So if you're watching Comedy Central and see a hilarious joke you just have to share, you can simply capture it with Whipclip (you can play or rewind up to 3 minutes of live TV on its app) and post it on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest.</p><p>You can also search for certain keywords and find clips containing those specific words. For example, if you search for "Britney Spears," it might show you Ludacris' music video that has Spears' name in its lyrics.</p><p>For its launch, Whipclip is partnering with multiple TV networks, including Comedy Central, ABC, CBS, and Bloomberg, as well as Universal Music Group and Sony Music for music videos. Channels like Bloomberg and A+E Network will be available 24-hours, live, but others will only have past episodes of select-= shows available.</p><p>There are no sports networks yet, but Whipclip tells us "sports is phase two" of its business and it's currently in talks with multiple sports channels.</p><p>We'll walk you through the app to give you a better idea of how it works:</p><h3>That's the Whipclip app icon. Users can capture up to 60 seconds of the video. Some of its investors include Raine Ventures, Institutional Venture Partners, Ari Emanuel and Scooter Braun.
