The RCI, a premier laboratory of <keyword id="6355142" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="DRDO">DRDO</keyword> based at Hyderabad, has developed an automated contactless UVC sanitising cabinet to sanitise mobile phones, iPads, laptops, currency notes, cheque leafs, challans, passbooks, and paper. <keyword id="374974" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Research-Centre-Imarat">Research Centre Imarat</keyword> (RCI), a part of <keyword id="490397" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Defence-Research-Development-Organisation">Defence Research Development Organisation</keyword> (DRDO), developed the Defence Research Ultraviolet Sanitiser (<keyword id="9199516" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="druvs">DRUVS</keyword>). <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="75666941" title="India's former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh hospitalised at the age of 87" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> DRDO said on Sunday that DRUVS Cabinet has a contactless operation which is very important to contain the spread of virus. The proximity sensor switches clubbed with drawer opening and closing mechanism makes its operation automatic and contactless. The DRUVS provides 360 degree exposure of UVC to the objects placed inside the cabinet. Once the sanitisation is done, the system goes in sleep mode, hence the operator need not wait or stand near the device, said a statement. RCI has also developed an automated UVC currency sanitising device called NOTESCLEAN. Bundles of currency notes can be sanitised using DRUVS, however disinfection of each currency note using it, will be a time-consuming process. For that purpose, a sanitising technique has been developed, where one has to just place the loose currency notes at the input slot of the device. It picks the notes one by one and makes them pass through a series of UVC lamps for complete disinfection, it said. India's Defence Research and Development Organisation develops devices to sanitise phones and currency notes

With a vision to make <keyword id="68884" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telangana">Telangana</keyword> a commercial hub for all space-related products and services, the state government has decided to formulate a space-tech policy framework. The policy aims to push domestic production of launch vehicles, satellite systems and sub-systems and ground equipment manufacturing. State's Principal Secretary, Industry and Commerce, <keyword id="130896" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jayesh-Ranjan">Jayesh Ranjan</keyword>, said on Sunday that Telangana is creating a holistic framework to develop end-to-end spacetech ecosystem in the state and attempt to capture the emerging global opportunities in space-related investments and innovations. This can potentially create a trickle-down impact on other areas of innovation such as universal connectivity and big data analytics for agriculture, remote education, disaster management, he said. Equal emphasis would be given to downstream applications of remote sensing that have the potential to solve real-life problems in agriculture, disaster management, insurance, urban flood modeling and forestry. The Centre's Department of Space recently released the draft Spacecom policy 2020 and draft SpaceRS policy 2020. Officials said states can significantly contribute to achieving the national objectives like "Atmanirbhar Bharat". Telangana government to formulate a space-tech policy framework

India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-C51 (PSLV-C51) rocket loaded with 19 <keyword id="41530" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="satellites">satellites</keyword> from Brazil, the US and India lifted off from the rocket port at <keyword id="6355143" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="sriharikota">Sriharikota</keyword> in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday morning. The rocket carrying Brazil's 637-kg Amazonia-1 satellite as its primary passenger and 18 others (13 from the US and five from India including a defence satellite) as co-passengers lifted off from the first launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) here at 10.24 a.m. on Sunday. India's first space mission for 2021 is one of the longest for a PSLV rocket and is expected to conclude 1 hour, 55 minutes and 7 seconds into its <keyword id="30815" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="flight">flight</keyword>. If all goes well India will end the mission orbiting a total of 342 foreign satellites, all for a fee. For the third time ISRO is using the PSLV rocket's DL variant that will have two strap-on booster motors. In normal configuration the PSLV is a four stage/engine expendable rocket powered by solid and liquid fuels alternatively. Six booster motors will also be strapped on to the first stage to give higher thrust during the initial flight moments. But the 44.4 metre tall PSLV rocket that flew on Sunday was the DL variant having only two strap-booster motors. This variant was used for the first time to put the Microsat R satellite into orbit on January 24, 2019. The Indian space agency has PSLV variants with two and four strap-on motors, larger PSLV-XL and the Core Alone variant without any strap-on motors. The choice of the rocket to be used for a mission depends on the weight of the satellite and the orbit where the satellite has to be orbited. Be that as it may, the PSLV-C51 mission is one of longest ones. As per its flight plan, the rocket will put the 19 satellites into Sun Synchronous Orbit over a duration of 1 hour, 55 minutes and 7 seconds. During its flight, the rocket's fourth stage engine will be cut off and restarted a couple of times, the first one will be at 16 minutes into its flight. Seventeen minutes into its flight the rocket will sling the Brazilian satellite Amazonia-1. Just over one hour into its flight the rocket's engine will be restarted for about nine seconds before it is shut down again. After 1 hour, 49 minutes and 52 seconds the rocket's engine will be reignited for eight seconds after which the 18 piggy back satellites will be put into orbit. DRDO is inviting applications to fill up 150 apprenticeship posts with a monthly stipend of ₹9,000

India successfully tested an anti-submarine weapon system developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (<keyword id="6355142" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DRDO">DRDO</keyword>) on Monday, in a boost to its naval warfare capabilities. <keyword id="7706628" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="defence-minister-rajnath-singh">Defence Minister Rajnath Singh</keyword> congratulated the DRDO scientists for the feat. He said, "The DRDO has successfully flight tested the Supersonic Missile assisted release of Torpedo, SMART. This will be a major technology breakthrough for stand-off capability in anti-submarine warfare. I congratulate DRDO and other stakeholders for this significant achievement." DRDO chairman G. Satheesh Reddy said that SMART is a game changer technology demonstration in Anti-Submarine Warfare. The DRDO said that "supersonic missile-assisted release of torpedo (SMART) has been successfully flight tested at 11:45 hrs from Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha. "All the mission objectives including missile flight up to the range and altitude, separation of the nose cone, release of Torpedo and deployment of Velocity Reduction Mechanism (VRM) have been met perfectly," DRDO said in a statement. It also stated that the tracking stations -- Radars, Electro Optical Systems -- along the coast and the telemetry stations including down range ships monitored all the events. It is a missile-assisted release of lightweight anti-submarine torpedo system for anti-submarine warfare operations far beyond torpedo range. This launch and demonstration is significant in establishing anti-submarine warfare capabilities. A number of DRDO laboratories including Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Research Centre Imarat in Hyderabad, Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment, Agra, Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) Visakhapatnam have developed the technologies required for SMART. India successfully tests anti-submarine weapon system

<ul><li>The maiden trial launch of the Nirbhay Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM) was scheduled to take place around 10:30 am today. </li><li>However, the launch was cancelled due to a ‘<keyword id="98490" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="technical-snag">technical snag</keyword>.’</li><li>The upgraded Nirbhay subsonic cruise missile comes with a new short turbofan engine and an advanced radio frequency seeker. </li></ul>After seven successful missile trials in September, India was scheduled to launch one more today — the Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM). However, the launch was cancelled due to a ‘technical snag.’ “The <keyword id="6355142" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DRDO">DRDO</keyword> is analysing all the details,” a source told PTI. The test is happening at a time when India is locked in a stand off against China along the border in Eastern Ladakh. Several Nirbhay missiles have reportedly already been deployed in the region where two Asian giants are disputing over the Line of Actual Control (LAC). A new kind of subsonic cruise missile The ITCM is an upgraded version of the subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay, India's first indigenously developed cruise missile. The new missile has been fitted with advanced software and more indigenous systems — including a short turbofan engine and an advanced radio frequency seeker, according to <a href="https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/odisha/2020/oct/11/india-likely-to-conduct-maiden-test-of-indigenous-technology-cruise-missile-on-october-12-2208832.html">The New Indian Express.</a> The turbofan engine dubbed Manik has been developed by Gas Turbine Research Establishment, while the radio frequency seeker has been produced by the Research Centre Imarat. The DRDO has already carried out several successful trials of the 'Nirbhay' missile since October 2014. It is capable of being deployed from multiple platforms and can travel as fast at Mach 0.8 — faster than the speed of sound. ITCM Nirbhay missile's maiden launch cancelled due to 'technical snag'

New Delhi, Apr 23 () Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday unveiled via video link a Mobile Virology Research and Diagnostics Laboratory (MVRDL) developed by DRDO that will help in speeding up COVID-19 screening, a statement said.The first such Mobile Viral Research Lab (MVRL) that will speed up coronavirus screening and related R&amp;D activities was developed by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI), the Hyderabad-based laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in consultation with ESIC Hospital, Hyderabad, the statement said.The Mobile Viral Research Lab is the combination of a Biosafety Level 3 lab and a BSL 2 lab essential to carry out its activities. The lab is built as per World Health Organisation (WHO) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) biosafety standards to meet international guidelines. The system has built-in electrical controls, LAN, telephone cabling, and CCTVs, the statement added.The Mobile Lab will be helpful in carrying out diagnosis of COVID-19 and also virus culturing for drug screening, convalescent plasma derived therapy, comprehensive immune profiling of COVID-19 patients towards vaccine development and early clinical trials specific to Indian population. The lab can screen 1,000-2,000 samples per day and can be positioned anywhere in the country as per requirement, the statement added.Speaking on this occasion, the Union defence minister said the government has taken several timely decisions because of which the spread of COVID-19 in the country is far less in comparison to many other countries.Singh also appreciated the setting up of this Biosafety Level 2 and Level 3 lab in a record time of 15 days though it usually takes about six months to set up such a lab. He said the testing facility can process more than 1,000 samples in a day and will enhance the country's capabilities in fighting COVID-19. He said the armed forces are contributing in the fight against COVID-19 in many ways - such as setting up of quarantine centres, providing healthcare facilities, evacuating Indian nationals from other countries.The online inauguration was also attended by Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Telangana's Minister for IT - KT Rama Rao, Telangana's Labour Minister Ch Malla Reddy and DRDO chairman Dr G Satheesh Reddy.
