Its net loss stood at Rs 141.6 crore in the year-ago period. <br /><br /> Total income rose to Rs 2,564.7 crore in the July-September period of this fiscal year from Rs 2,203.3 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year, according to a regulatory filing on Wednesday. <br /><br /> Total expenses increased to Rs 2,771.9 crore in the period under review, from Rs 2,335.1 crore a year ago. <br /><br /> Shree Renuka Sugars, a subsidiary of Singapore-based Wilmar Sugar Holdings Pte Ltd, is one of India's largest sugar and green energy (ethanol and renewable power) producers.

Moreover, smaller, unorganized players have been mushrooming and growing faster than the larger players — that’s affected most mass-segments like soaps, detergents and tea during the quarter. <br /><br />The company that saw the biggest hit amongst them all is FMCG major Hindustan Unilever. Not only did its profit and revenues grow at 4%, its volumes grew by 2%. Also its rural volumes fell by 1% in the second quarter. <br /><br /><strong>Operating performance gets tougher for HUL <br /></strong><br />Its foods business saw volumes fall by 7% during the quarter, which has disappointed the street. “To remain relevant and retain consumer confidence HUL may need to provide superior value and invest more in consumer promotions and ad-spends,” said a report by Centrum Broking. <br /><br />Added to that, in tea and detergent bars segments, smaller players are growing market value significantly. Soaps also saw decline in revenues due to price cuts. Going ahead, it indicated that price-led growth could be negative if commodity prices remain where they are. For the quarter, pricing growth was flat. <br /><br />The volume recovery might also take longer from hereon considering it expects ‘gradual’ recovery in rural demand. <br /><br />“HUL experienced a decline in performance of the skin cleansing portfolio due to price cuts. Tea witnessed modest growth, likely due to consumers downgrading their choices within this category,” said a report by Nuvama Institutional Equities. <br /><br />Rohit Jawa, the MD and CEO of the company said that he is cautiously optimistic. “FMCG demand is likely to continue a gradual recovery with tailwinds from the upcoming festive season, sustained buoyancy of services and government’s soaps. Revenues growth was driven by staples, notebooks &amp; pens, personal wash &amp; agarbatti amidst relatively subdued consumer demand environment. <br /><br />The company which also has presence in frozen foods, fresh dairy and more said that it launched new products in atta, biscuits and more. <br /><br />“Margin expansion driven by multi-pronged interventions viz. premiumisation, supply chain agility, judicious pricing actions, digital initiatives and strategic cost management,” the company said. Its earnings before interest tax depreciation and amortization (EBIDTA) expanded 150 basis points YoY. <br /><br />While HUL also saw a healthy margin expansion of 130 basis during the quarter, it was driven by fall in the prices of top 4 commodities. FMCG business tracking well on both growth and margins, said Systematix Institutional Equities. <br /><br />“FMCG growth was tad softer than desired, which likely had some impact on operating leverage and margin; ITC’s FMCG growth is, however, still better vs most staples peers barring Nestle, Tata Consumer. Profit progression remained strong, though we reckon that there were some offset from the step-up in marketing investments,” said a report by J M Financial. <br /><br /><strong>Nestle grows as expected <br /></strong><br />The maker of Maggi and Nescafe, which is working to deliver its ‘Rurban’ strategy and improve penetration in small towns and large villages – saw little of the disruption seen by its competitors. <br /><br />It has reported strong growth across all its segments — prepared dishes and cooking aids, milk products, confectionery as well as beverages. While other FMCG companies are worried about demand troubles from uneven rainfall, the company’s only worry seems to be its effect on commodity prices. <br /><br />“Uneven rain and rain deficit is expected to impact production of maize, sugar, oilseeds and spices that may have an adverse impact on pricing,” Nestle said in its outlook ahead. <br /><br />Analysts have said that there is little change in estimates due to the Q2 earnings report. The company’s focus on expanding out-of-home consumption and reaching rural markets, driving sustained double-digit earnings growth, said a report by Motilal Oswal.<br /><br />“Nestle has a strong position in the domestic food market with an innovative product portfolio. It is well-positioned to capitalize on the vast opportunities in India's packaged foods segment, ensuring promising long-term revenue and earnings prospects,” said the brokerage report added.<br />

HUL Vs ITC: Good, the better and the best

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The 2021 <keyword id="25952" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Mercedes-Benz">Mercedes-Benz</keyword> GLA 250 is all-new for its second generation, and represents the entry-level Mercedes-Benz SUV.</li><li>Despite its increase in size, the new GLA is fun, especially as a front-wheel drive car. Just don't expect to fit a whole lot in the trunk.</li><li>Prices start at $36,230, but my loaner came out to $57,150 after options.</li></ul><p>There are <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2020-lincoln-aviator-review-hybrid-specs-three-row-suv-luxury-2020-7">big, hulking, behemoth</a> SUVs — ones that tower over children and loom over adults, competing with buses for space on the roads — and then there are the smaller, bite-sized ones.</p><p>Contrary to what the current car market says, which is that bigger is always better, buying small <em>is</em> allowed. It can be a good thing, even.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Mercedes Benz GLA250_9" height="3750" width="2500" msid="77871938" hostid="261"></div><p>A "compact" SUV is oxymoronic, but they exist, offering heightened ingress and egress and slightly more head and shoulder room than the hatchbacks and sedans they might compete with.</p><p>The brand-new 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 is the latest example. It's bigger than the model it replaces, but that just means more room for you to stretch out a bit while taking up less room on the road.</p><h2><strong>The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA 250: The little one</strong></h2><p>The <keyword id="6357420" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="mercedes">Mercedes</keyword> SUV spread is impressive. Sitting at the top of its big-car hierarchy are the boxy G-Wagen and the massive GLS. All the way down — past the GLE, GLC, and GLB, because we go in alphabetical order here — is the diminutive GLA.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Mercedes Benz GLA250_1" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77871946" hostid="261"></div><p>There's an SUV for every size requirement: big, medium, small, and even ones for people who <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mercedes-glc-coupe-amg-2016-8">willfully ignore how to use the word "coupe" correctly</a>.</p><p>New for its second generation, the GLA represents the entry point for Mercedes SUVs. The squarer GLB is more utilitarian-focused; the GLA is sleeker and more athletic-looking. In a production Q&amp;A, a Mercedes spokesperson said the car is intended for either an empty-nester or early starter. </p><p>Basically, that translates to buyers who don't have a lot of stuff or people to carry regularly, because this trunk is <em>snug</em>.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Mercedes Benz GLA250_17" height="3750" width="2500" msid="77871949" hostid="261"></div><h2><strong>Details and safety ratings: Very compact, even by 'compact' standards</strong></h2><p>The GLA rides on a platform that's shared across all of Mercedes' compact cars, underpinning the GLB and CLA as well. The new GLA is 3.9 inches higher than the outgoing model, but 0.6 inches shorter from nose to tail. Despite this, Mercedes claims it offers "considerably more legroom" in the back. </p><p>Still, the GLA is small. It's only 1.6 inches longer, 1.7 inches wider, and 6.3 inches taller than the 2021 Toyota Corolla hatchback. That places it solidly within <a href="https://www.caranddriver.com/research/a32798948/what-is-a-compact-car/">the compact category</a>. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Mercedes Benz GLA250_31" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77871954" hostid="261"></div><p>Once upon a time, a Mercedes model's alphanumeric name dictated the displacement of its engine (an E320 had a 3.2-liter engine) but that practice is no more. The GLA 250 has a 2.0-liter, turbocharged inline-four engine that produces a claimed 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. </p><p>Mercedes estimates it to hit 60 mph from a standstill in between 6.6 and 6.8 seconds, as well as achieve an <a href="https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/future-cars/news/a30737/bugatti-will-remove-your-chirons-speed-limiter-if-you-want-to-do-285-mph/">electronically limited</a> top speed of 130 mph. Power is sent to the front wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. </p><p>For an extra $2,000, however, you can equip your GLA with Mercedes' 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Curb weight comes to 3,384 pounds for the front-wheel drive version, 3,494 pounds for GLAs equipped with 4MATIC.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Mercedes Benz GLA250_22" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77871957" hostid="261"></div><p>At the time of this writing, the 2021 GLA 250 has not yet been rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for crash safety. </p><h2><strong>What stands out: Torque steer, it builds character </strong></h2><p>The first thing you'll notice is that the new GLA is quite a nice place to sit. The seats are contoured, yes, but they are roomy. There's plenty of headroom. The cabin isn't claustrophobic. The back seats do indeed offer plenty of legroom. And the big infotainment system — formally called Mercedes-Benz User Experience, or "MBUX" — offers a great display: good viewing angles, a clear and concise picture. I wouldn't mind that kind of resolution on my phone.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Mercedes Benz GLA250_29" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77871959" hostid="261"></div><p>The GLA's little engine has plenty of hustle, too. With the windows down, it's a whooshing, whistling thing as the turbocharger spools up. In the standard Comfort driving mode, the car accelerates agreeably, but putting it in Sport mode is the play here. </p><p>Unlike other cars, where Sport mode is perhaps more a sugar pill than a mode that actually does anything, Sport mode in the GLA noticeably changes the car's personality. The steering tightens up and the transmission takes on a tendency to hang out in a gear lower than it normally would. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Mercedes Benz GLA250_7" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77871962" hostid="261"></div><p>With this engine, 3,500 rpm is your sweet spot. Keeping the revs there — or at least close to there — guarantees the most immediate response, the most urgency, the most fun. The power is most accessible in this mode. It made a jaunt across Brooklyn's Belt Parkway quite enjoyable, despite the moderate traffic.</p><p>You'll feel a bit of <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFGWzUAUisQ">torque steer</a> — a normal phenomenon that predominantly affects front-wheel-drive cars, where accelerating powerfully at low speeds can cause the steering wheel to pull in another direction — but it's totally controllable.</p><p>Actually, it gives the GLA a bit more character. It gives it a bit of a hot-hatch quality — which, to car enthusiasts, is a good thing.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Mercedes Benz GLA250_26" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77871964" hostid="261"></div><p>Curiously, the GLA 250 didn't feel as light and tossable as the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/toyota-venza-2021-review-price-new-crossover-hybrid-specs-photos-2020-7">Toyota Venza I had a few weeks ago</a>, despite weighing a few hundred pounds less, but I still had fun in it. Its short overhangs made it extremely easy to place and maneuver — and especially easy to park. It was a nice city car.</p><h2><strong>What falls short: Itty, bitty, little trunk </strong></h2><p>Mercedes-Benz is a luxury brand, but it's still an athletic sort of luxury that's unlike the Lincolns of the road. As such, I found the GLA's suspension to ride a bit on the hard side, which makes me think the eventual performance-focused AMG version will ride even harder. If you live in a place where the road quality is generally alright, you probably won't be bothered by this. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Mercedes Benz GLA250_11" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77871967" hostid="261"></div><p>The Mercedes product spokespeople weren't kidding when they said who they envisioned this car was for. I cannot imagine a family with two small children — plus all the gear those two small children require — would have much use for the GLA. Although the passenger cabin is roomy, the trunk is laughably small. </p><p>With the second row upright, there's 15.4 cubic feet of cargo room in the trunk. Comparatively, the smaller Toyota Corolla hatchback we discussed above <a href="https://s3.amazonaws.com/toyota-cms-media/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/2021-Toyota-Corolla-Hatchback-Product-Info.pdf">has 17.8 cubic feet behind its second row</a>.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Mercedes Benz GLA250_10" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77871968" hostid="261"></div><div type="image" title="2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback 036" height="1769" width="2500" msid="77871969" hostid="261"></div><p>No, the GLA is for a two-person household and their luggage and cargo, or a four-person household where those four people don't bring a whole lot to wherever they're going. </p><p>And after having great success with the voice command <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/polestar-2-review-price-ev-volvo-tesla-specs-horsepower-electric-2020-8">in the Polestar 2</a>, I wanted to test out the GLA's system, too. </p><p>"Hey, Mercedes. How do you make a banana split?"</p><p>"Navigating you to Banana Split Inc. on 820 Church Road, Aurora, Illinois," the car said after a moment. </p><p><em>Noooo. </em>"Cancel! Hey, MERCEDES! CANCEL!" </p><p>I tried again. "Hey, Mercedes. Tell me a joke."</p><p>"Sorry," the car responded dryly. "My engineers were German."</p><div type="image" title="2021 Mercedes Benz GLA250_28" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77871974" hostid="261"></div><h2><strong>How the GLA 250 compares to its competitors: The sales numbers don't lie </strong></h2><p>Mercedes <a href="https://media.mbusa.com/releases/mercedes-benz-usa-sales-december-2019?firstResultIndex=0&amp;sortOrder=PublishedDescendingding">sold</a> 22,137 GLAs last year out of 316,094 total passenger cars sold. On the other hand, the bigger GLC sold 73,650 examples — which tells me that most people still want more room when they get an SUV. Buyers don't want small things right now, they want big ones.</p><p>The 2021 GLA starts at $36,230. But the numbers don't lie: It handily outsold its competitors by a pretty significant amount, <em>and</em> in a segment that's not the easiest sell.</p><p>The 2021 GLA is available now in dealerships.</p><h2><strong>Our impressions: The new one is bigger, but that means more interior room</strong></h2><p>The first-generation GLA was a funky little thing — basically, a lifted hatchback that shared a platform with the <a href="https://jalopnik.com/2017-infiniti-qx30-badge-engineering-is-still-alive-an-1792281594">Infiniti QX30</a>, which was killed off last year. It reminded me of that weirdo two-door liftback <a href="https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a16580444/mercedes-benz-c-class-sport-coupe-auto-shows/">C-Class Sport Coupe</a> from the 2000s — one of the more European-looking Mercedes cars we ever got here in the States.</p><div type="image" title="Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sport Coupe" height="1368" width="2500" msid="77871982" hostid="261"></div><p>I feel like I used to see those tooling around everywhere. Then, all of a sudden, they disappeared. What happened to them? </p><p>I have no way of proving this, but I think everyone traded them in for GLAs. The idea behind them is the same: something smaller than an SUV but with slightly more utility than a sedan. The first-gen GLA satisfied that need.</p><p>The new GLA sacrifices those fun proportions for something that's roomier inside, sure — but that something has now also achieved the approximate shape of a Yeezy sneaker and the face of a pug.</p><div type="image" title="2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA." height="1558" width="2500" msid="77871986" hostid="261"></div><div type="image" title="2021 Mercedes Benz GLA250_12" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77871993" hostid="261"></div><p>It's not the most distinctive or prettiest car, so the GLA is best enjoyed from the inside. Inside, the leathers are nice, there are 64 ambient lighting colors to pick from, and there's plenty of room to be comfortable. Just not a whole lot for your stuff. </p><p>After options, my loaner came out to $57,150 — which is far too much money for a front-wheel-drive compact SUV. These typically weigh the least and aren't bogged down with all-wheel drive or unnecessarily extra power.</p><p>The front-wheel-drive GLA proves that. In addition, some conditions like <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements-coenzyme-q10/art-20362602">heart disease</a> also seem to be linked to lower concentrations of CoQ10. That's where a CoQ10 supplement may help.</p><p>Though research is still inconclusive, there is evidence that taking CoQ10 as a supplement may offer help heart <keyword id="11894571" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="health" source="Orion">health</keyword>, diabetes, physical performance, and more. </p><h2>1. May enhance physical performance </h2><p>Physical performance relies on steady energy production from the <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0960982206017817" target="_blank" rel="noopener">mitochondria</a> - the "powerhouse" of every cell in your body.</p><p>CoQ10 supplementation may enhance this energy production, says <a href="https://menoclinic.com/about/dr-mark-menolascino/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mark Menolascino, MD, MS</a>, Medical Director of <a href="https://menoclinic.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Meno Clinic - Center for Functional Medicine.</a></p><p><a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/296951483_Coenzyme_Q10_and_ubiquinol_for_physical_performance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A 2015 review</a> of 28 studies found that CoQ10 can in fact have a beneficial effect on physical performance, particularly if it's consumed in its reduced form, ubiquinol, and if consumed at doses of at least 300 milligrams daily for at least two to three months.</p><p>Additionally, the review found ubiquinol to be more useful for acute exercise performance, such as with sprinting or weightlifting, opposed to more long-term endurance. Both CoQ10 and ubiquinol <keyword id="11911136" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="supplements" source="Orion">supplements</keyword> are widely available at vitamin and supplement stores as well as online. </p><h2>2. May prevent migraines </h2><p>CoQ10 may help reduce the <a href="https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/11/1/e039358" target="_blank" rel="noopener">duration and frequency</a> of migraine attacks as well as prevent them, says <a href="https://lamclinic.com/team/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Carrie Lam, MD, FAAMFM</a>, co-founder and Medical Director of the<a href="http://www.lamclinic.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Lam Clinic</a>. </p><p>This is because it's been shown to<a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29298622/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> reduce levels of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP),</a> which is a peptide in the brain that's <a href="https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acsptsci.9b00089" target="_blank" rel="noopener">associated with pain</a>, says Lam.</p><p>A<a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30428123/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> 2018 meta-analysis</a> of five studies found that CoQ10 was more effective than a placebo at reducing the number of migraines per month.  </p><h2>3. May help heart conditions</h2><p>There are correlations between cardiac disease and <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24389208/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">deficiencies of CoQ10,</a> says Lam.  </p><p>But research has found promising evidence that supplementing with CoQ10 may help <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6131403/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">prevent chronic and acute conditions of the heart</a>. </p><p>A<a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25282031/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> 2014 study</a> followed patients with chronic heart failure over the course of two years, and found that patients given daily CoQ10 rather than a placebo were less likely to end up in the hospital for heart failure or die. </p><p>Additionally, <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6131403/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a 2018 review</a> of human and animal studies found that CoQ10 may be beneficial as a supplemental treatment for various cardiovascular diseases. These benefits may be due to the <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7222396/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of CoQ10. </a></p><h2>4. May reduce side effects of cholesterol medicine</h2><p>Statins are a common type of drug that people take for high cholesterol. These meds deplete cells' much-needed CoQ10, says Menolascino, and can result in <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-cholesterol/in-depth/statin-side-effects/art-20046013" target="_blank" rel="noopener">side effects like muscle pain</a>. </p><p>A<a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17493470/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> small 2007 study</a> found that pain severity decreased by 40% in people who had statin-induced muscle pain who took CoQ10 daily for 30 days. </p><p>But other studies have found <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-cholesterol/expert-answers/coenzyme-q10/faq-20058176" target="_blank" rel="noopener">mixed results</a>, so you should talk to your doctor before taking coQ10 for statin side effects. </p><h2>5. May help improve diabetes</h2><p> <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26413493/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A small 2014 study</a> showed that 12 weeks of CoQ10 supplementation helped decrease fasting blood glucose levels (FPG) in people with type 2 diabetes.</p><p><strong>Note:  </strong><a href="https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/basics/getting-tested.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">FPG </a>refers to blood sugar levels after fasting overnight, and is a good way to <a href="https://www.diabetes.org/a1c/diagnosis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">monitor diabetes.</a> </p><p>CoQ10 may reduce blood sugar levels and <a href="https://diabetesaction.org/article-coq10#:~:text=This%20model%20of%20action%20and,sugar%20and%20improving%20insulin%20secretion." target="_blank" rel="noopener">improve insulin secretion</a> in people with diabetes, Menolascino says. </p><p>Diabetes causes your cells to be less efficient when taking in glucose to produce energy -- but this inefficiency may be improved by using CoQ10 to support your cells, says Menolascino.</p><p>Additionally, small scale research has found that <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19530339/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CoQ10 levels are lower </a>in people with diabetes, compared to control groups, so supplementation may be particularly beneficial in these cases.</p><h2>How to take CoQ10</h2><p>Menolascino says CoQ10 is found in certain <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3178961/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">foods like</a></p><ul><li>Oily fish</li><li>Organ meats</li><li>Whole-grain foods</li></ul><p>But the amount of CoQ10 in these foods <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements-coenzyme-q10/art-20362602">isn't enough</a> to boost the CoQ10 levels in your system-so you may need to take a supplement. </p><p>CoQ10 supplements are also available in different forms such as capsules, wafers, syrups, and IVs, says Menolascino.</p><p>As for dosage, Lam says you should double-check with your doctor to see what dose is best for you.</p><p>A typical daily dose can range from 100 milligrams to 200 milligrams, which is about what one capsule contains, says Lam. But "others with heart disease or mitochondrial dysfunction could increase their dose to a maximum of 1,200 milligrams a day," says Lam.</p><p>Coq10 supplements are generally <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/medicine-and-dentistry/coenzyme-q10" target="_blank" rel="noopener">well-tolerated</a>, but consult your doctor if you're interested in taking more than 100-200 milligrams. </p><h2>Insider's takeaway</h2><p>If you have certain health conditions like diabetes or heart failure, CoQ10 supplements may improve your condition. But you should continue all your prescribed medications.</p><p>While there is promising research, further larger-scale studies need to be conducted so researchers have a more complete understanding about CoQ10 for health. </p><p>In the meantime, it is considered <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements-coenzyme-q10/art-20362602" target="_blank" rel="noopener">generally safe</a> to take and may make a positive difference for your health. In fact, after years of bypassing <a href="https://www.insider.com/bakery-quarantine-cakes-stay-afloat-coronavirus-pandemic-san-francisco-2020-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pistachio cakes</a> and desserts, I had to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nuts-that-arent-actually-nuts-2016-2#pistachios-4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">purchase a bag of the seeds</a> from my local bodega to remember what pistachios taste like. </p><p>Snacking on the pistachios, I enjoyed the mild, slightly sweet taste of them but wondered how the flavor would work in a warm winter beverage.</p><p>When I visit Starbucks, <a href="https://www.insider.com/starbucks-holiday-drinks-taste-test-2018-11">I lean towards sugar-infused drinks like the Vanilla Bean Frappuccino</a> - a drink with a strong saccharine flavor - so I thought pistachio's mild taste could be underwhelming in a latte. </p><p><em><strong>Read more: </strong><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-dunkin-became-the-viral-star-of-2020-beating-starbucks-2020-12">How Dunkin' stole Starbucks' crown as king of social media in 2020 using TikTok stars, purple drinks, and coffee-scented candles</a></em></p><h2><strong>The Pistachio Latte I got looked nearly identical to the promotional picture</strong></h2><div type="image" title="starbucks pistachio latte" height="1500" width="2000" msid="80277140" hostid="261"></div><p>There was only one word that came to mind when the barista handed over my finished Pistachio Latte and I got a whiff: potent. </p><p>The scent of espresso and pistachio hit my nose long before the barista combined the ingredients and sealed the cap shut. If the smell was anything to go by, the Pistachio Latte would certainly pack a flavor punch.</p><p>I was also impressed by the presentation since it very closely resembled the promotional photo shared by Starbucks. True to its description, the drink had sprinkles of a salty-sweet pistachio topping that didn't prematurely melt into the latte.</p><h2><strong>The pistachio taste was prominent and worked surprisingly well</strong></h2><div type="image" title="Starbucks Pistachio Latte Taste Test" height="3088" width="2320" msid="80277141" hostid="261"></div><p>I was surprised that the nutty flavor came through so well. Just underneath the espresso, notes of pistachio weaved themselves into the drink's smooth texture and left a buttery finish. </p><p>Although the pistachios likely added some sweetness, there was another flavor - almost like toffee - detectable in each swig. The toasty latte kept me warm as I left the Starbucks,<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/starbucks-plans-to-close-up-to-400-stores-in-us-2020-6" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> which doesn't offer indoor seating amid the pandemic</a>, and walked back home to my tiny New York City apartment. </p><p>Starbucks also offered an Iced Pistachio Latte as an alternative. In my opinion, icing the drink made it sharper with a lighter, less overwhelming mouth feel.</p><p>However, I'm not completely sold on nutty beverages. While I love cashews and enjoy a good <a href="https://www.insider.com/homemade-reeses-peanut-butter-cups-easy-recipe-2020-5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Reese's Peanut Butter Cup</a>, the flavor of the Pistachio Latte lost its appeal the longer I drank it. Instead, I wanted to eat <em>actual</em> pistachios and get the full, uncompromised taste of them.</p><h2><strong>The Pistachio Latte is Starbucks' first new beverage of the year and was created for the Chicago Roastery Reserve's debut</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Starbucks Iced Pistachio Latte" height="3024" width="4032" msid="80277142" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>According to <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2021/get-a-taste-of-the-starbucks-reserve-roastery-with-new-pistachio-latte/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Starbucks</a>, the Pistachio Latte was created for the Chicago Roastery as a tribute when it debuted in November 2019. It was inspired by the rave reviews for the Starbucks Reserve Hazelnut Bianco Latte and other popular nuts in Italy. </p><p>"Hazelnuts are grown in northern Italy, and some of the best pistachios are grown in the southern region of Italy.
