The core team of RGCC will include experienced leaders of the Group -- Sateesh Seth, Punit Garg, and K Raja Gopal. Garg currently leads as CEO of <keyword id="20144587" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Infrastructure" source="keywords">Reliance Infrastructure</keyword>, while K Raja Gopal has been at the helm of Reliance Power for six years. He has over 27 years experience in the power sector. Other leaders from the Group companies will also be invited to the RGCC. "The establishment of RGCC aims to harness the in-house expertise of these seasoned leaders to support the Group's forward-looking growth initiatives and cultivate a new generation of leadership for future project," the statement said. The RGCC will play a pivotal role in mentoring and developing emerging leaders, blending experience with fresh talent to propel the Group towards sustained growth. In recent developments, Reliance Infrastructure Ltd and Reliance Power Ltd, key entities under the Reliance Group, have achieved zero bank debt status and outlined plans for expansion into new growth areas. Reliance Power has secured 1,270 MW of renewable power projects in Bhutan, while Reliance Infrastructure, through its subsidiary Reliance Defence Ltd, is setting up a manufacturing facility for small arms, ammunition, and explosives in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, spanning 1,000 acres. "To support these ambitious expansion plans, the companies have announced a combined fundraising effort of Rs 17,600 crore. This includes Rs 4,500 crore via preferential equity issues, Rs 7,100 crore from Varde Partners through equity-linked long-term FCCBs, and Rs 6,000 crore via Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP), with Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure each targeting Rs 3,000 crore," it added.

The returning men, who are released without any rehabilitation, often go on to commit crimes once back home. Kirill Titaev, a Russian sociologist at Yale University, told The Times that the wave of "invisible violence" was a "big problem for the society." Experts The Times spoke to said some former prisoners gained confidence after their stints in Ukraine, and see their wartime service as a form of rehabilitation. Fighting in Ukraine has also left them financially well-off, as they were paid a base monthly salary of about $2,000 from The Wagner Group, a Russian mercenary organization, per The Times. That is also more than double the average salary of a Russian worker, who makes around $756 a month, Russia's statistics agency said in a <a target="_blank" class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/almost-half-russians-say-salary-does-not-cover-basic-spending-survey-2023-10-23/">survey</a> released in October. Romanova told The Times that even the local police officers are afraid of the returning convicts and their newly-attained veteran status. Russian convicts who earned their freedom fighting Ukraine are going home with swagger and a stash of money to burn: NYT

New Delhi, <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="Orion">India</keyword> on Thursday accorded an initial approval to defence acquisition projects worth Rs 2.23 lakh crore that included procurement of 97 <keyword id="6376012" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tejas" source="Orion">Tejas</keyword> light combat aircraft and 156 Prachand combat helicopters, in a major move to significantly enhance the combat capabilities of the armed forces. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, cleared the projects, at a time India is locked in a bitter military standoff with China at a number of friction points in eastern Ladakh for over three years. The defence ministry said 98 per cent of the total procurement worth Rs 2.23 lakh crore will be sourced from the domestic industries and that the move will give a substantial boost to the Indian defence industry in achieving the goal of 'Aatmanirbharta' (self-reliance) in defence industry. The DAC also approved a proposal of the Indian Air Force to upgrade its Su-30 fighter fleet by state-run aerospace major Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (<keyword id="68124" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="HAL" source="Orion">HAL</keyword>). The DAC further accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) or initial approval for procurement of two types of anti-tank munitions namely area denial munition (ADM) type-2 and type-3. The top body on procurement of military hardware also cleared acquisition and integration of automatic target tracker (ATT) and digital basaltic computer (DBC) for T-90 tanks besides approving another proposal to buy medium range anti-ship missiles (MRAShM) for the Indian Navy. The MRAShM is a lightweight surface-to-surface missile which will be a primary offensive weapon onboard various Indian naval ships. "The DAC accorded AoNs for procurement of Light Combat Helicopter for Indian Air Force and Indian Army and Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk-1A for IAF from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category," the ministry said. Though it did not mention the specific numbers, official sources said 97 Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (Mark 1A) are being procured for the IAF and 156 Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) are being procured for the Army and the Air Force. In February 2021, the defence ministry sealed a Rs 48,000 crore deal with the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd for procurement of 83 Tejas MK-1A jets for the IAF. With the additional fleet, the number of indigenously-developed Tejas aircraft being procured by the IAF would go up to 180. "The AoNs have also been accorded by the DAC for upgradation of Su-30 MKI aircraft indigenously from HAL. "While procurement of these equipment will provide enormous strength to the IAF, acquisition from domestic defence industries will take the indigenous capability to a new height," the ministry said in a statement. "It will also reduce dependability on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) substantially," it added.

According to the '<keyword id="12280146" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="digital-defence-report" source="Orion">Digital Defence Report</keyword> 2022', attackers are adapting and finding new ways to implement their techniques, thereby increasing the complexity of how and where they host campaign operation infrastructure. Attacks against remote management devices are on the rise, with more than 100 million attacks observed in May 2022 -- a five-fold increase in the past year. "To lower their overhead and boost the appearance of legitimacy, attackers are compromising business networks and devices to host phishing campaigns, malware, or even use their computing power to mine cryptocurrency," the findings showed. Human operated ransomware is most prevalent, as one-third of targets are successfully compromised by criminals using these attacks and 5 per cent of those are ransomed. About 93 per cent of Microsoft's ransomware incident response engagements revealed insufficient controls on privilege access and lateral movement. The most effective defence against ransomware includes multi-factor authentication, frequent security patches, and <keyword id="10549538" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="zero-trust" source="Orion">Zero Trust</keyword> principles across network architecture, the report noted. Microsoft said it synthesises 43 trillion signals daily, using sophisticated data analytics and AI algorithms to understand and protect against digital threats and criminal cyber activity. "Nation state actors are launching increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks designed to evade detection and further their strategic priorities. Cybercriminals have begun using advancements in automation, cloud infrastructure, and remote access technologies to attack a wider set of targets," said the company. To date, Microsoft removed more than 10,000 domains used by cybercriminals and 600 used by nation state actors. "Foreign actors are using highly effective techniques -- often mirroring cyberattacks to enable propaganda influence to erode trust, impact public opinion, and increase polarisation -- domestically and internationally," the report cautioned. Mukesh Ambani sets sights on defence – showcases Made in India software for aircraft design

The ministry on Sunday said the aim of the move is in sync with the government's overall aim to promote 'Atmanirbharta' (self-reliance) in defence production. It is the fourth such "positive indigenisation list (PIL)" comprising line replacement units, sub-systems and components used for various military platforms, equipment and weapons. "To promote 'Aatmanirbharta' in defence and minimise imports by defence public sector undertakings, the <keyword id="6369097" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ministry-of-defence" source="Orion">Ministry of Defence</keyword> has approved fourth Positive Indigenisation List (PIL) of 928 strategically-important line replacement units/sub-systems/spares and components, including high-end materials and spares, with import substitution value worth Rs 715 crore," the ministry said in a statement. The aim of the indigenisation list is also to minimise imports by the defence public sector undertakings (DPSUs). The defence ministry has set specific timelines for import ban of the items, spanning the period from December 2023 to December 2028. This list is in continuation to the three similar PILs that were brought out in December 2021, March 2022 and August 2022 "These lists contain 2,500 items which are already indigenised and 1,238 (351+107+780) items which will be indigenised within the given timelines," the ministry said. Of the 1,238, 310 items have been indigenised so far, it said. The items which were already indigenised comprised 262 from the first PIL, 11 from the second list and 37 from the third PIL, according to the ministry. "The DPSUs will undertake indigenisation of these items through different routes under 'Make' category and in-house development through the capabilities of MSMEs and private Indian industry, thereby providing impetus to the growth in economy, enhanced investment in defence and reduction in import dependence of DPSUs," the ministry said. "In addition, this will augment the design capabilities of the domestic defence industry by involving academia and research institutions," it said. "Keeping this in mind, the 4th Positive Indigenisation List (PIL) of 928 strategically-important Line Replacement Units (LRUs)/Sub-systems/Spares and Components has been approved," he said. "The list includes high-end materials and spares, with import substitution value worth Rs 715 crore," Singh added. The ministry said DPSUs will soon initiate procurement action for these notified items. Govt approves 4th 'positive indigenisation list' of sub-systems to promote domestic defence industry

Unlike Adani, Ambani has the added advantage of Reliance Industries’ massive facility in Jamnagar, from where he can source up to 90 kilo-tonne of polysilicon – a key raw material in the photovoltaic supply chain. According to estimates, about 5 tonnes of polysilicon is needed to manufacture 1-megawatt worth solar modules. The 20 GW target would need about 1 lakh tonnes of polysilicon, and RIL already has 90% of that supply secure. Towards its green energy goals, Reliance has already inked partnerships with several global players, including Ambri in the US, Faradion in the UK and Lithium Werks in the Netherlands, with each offering expertise in energy storage. In addition to this, Reliance is also eyeing a piece of the pie in the green hydrogen space, teaming up with the US-based Chart Industries to commercialize hydrogen technology and set up a supply chain. UBS estimates that Reliance’s green energy investments could add $35 billion value to the company. Discounting this to the current day, it translates to ₹234 per share. The report also says green energy will be the new growth engine of RIL going forward. While the domestic renewable energy market is itself a massive opportunity for many large conglomerates, the RIL chairman’s ambitions go beyond India. “We will have the world's most affordable green energy within this decade. And these solutions will then be exported to other countries, helping them contain carbon emissions,” said Ambani. For Ambani, the volume play makes the most sense, especially in a country like India. With green energy being the future, diving head-first into this is an obvious choice for India’s second richest man.
