I welcome what the Supreme Court has said." The Supreme Court on June 10 ruled that a divorced Muslim woman is entitled to seek maintenance from her husband under Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), asserting that any discrimination against Muslim women in matters of alimony under the secular laws of the country would be regressive and against <keyword id="20809677" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gender-justice" source="keywords">gender justice</keyword> and equality. Earlier, the <keyword id="20066702" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NCW-chief" source="keywords">NCW chief</keyword> wholeheartedly welcomed the Supreme Court's landmark ruling, stating that the decision is a significant step towards ensuring <keyword id="20250318" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gender-equality" source="keywords">gender equality</keyword> and justice for all women, regardless of their religion. The NCW Chairperson emphasised that the decision reinforces the principle that no woman should be left without support and protection under the law. The NCW remains committed to advocating for women's rights and ensuring that justice prevails for every woman in India, she emphasised. Rekha Sharma also addressed the "lewd" comment incident that occurred earlier regarding a picture of the widow of Kirti Chakra recipient Captain Anshuman Singh. NCW chief Rekha Sharma said, "It was a very derogatory comment that we saw on social media, and we immediately took suo motu cognizance of it. The police have filed an FIR against this person. However, the individual is most likely from Pakistan." "Many such comments are being made, and we are taking those comments very seriously and urging the police to file FIRs in those cases as well," she added. Delhi Police acknowledged the National Commission for Women's (NCW) letter to the Delhi Commissioner of Police, demanding the arrest of the man and submission of a detailed report to the panel within three days. The police said a complaint was received from the National Commission for Women, alleging that a social media user had made an extremely lewd and derogatory comment on a picture of the widow of a late soldier. Taking cognizance of the complaint and after a preliminary examination of its contents, a case FIR under Sections 79, BNS-2023, and Section 67 of the IT Act 2000 has been registered at the Police Station Special Cell, and an investigation is underway. Captain Anshuman Singh, a doctor, was posted with the 26 Punjab as a medical officer in the Siachen Glacier area. On the night of July 19, 2023, there was a fire incident at an Indian Army ammunition dump at the camp where he was posted. Captain Singh saw a fibreglass hut engulfed in fire and immediately acted to rescue four to five individuals trapped inside. He went inside the medical investigation room, which was also on fire, to retrieve the critical medical aid box but could not make it out due to heavy fire amid strong winds. He was awarded the Kirti Chakra posthumously. Captain Singh's wife, Smriti, and his mother received the award from President Droupadi Murmu.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Basement Bhangra was founded in 1997 as an inclusive dance party for South Asians in New York.</li><li>The club became a space for experimentation of music from the diaspora.</li></ul>On a sweltering, sticky Saturday in New York City, Central Park was packed full of thousands of South Asians who were ready to throw down.On August 6, Basement Bhangra — the now-defunct dance party founded by DJ Rekha in 1997 — celebrated its 25th anniversary with a revival party at Central Park's Summerstage co-produced by community leaders Jashima Wadehra and Pradeepa Jeevan.It was a party like no other. Younger South Asians danced the Giddha to the drum beat of a dhol, while toddlers and the elderly sat on grass fields, gathered together to celebrate their shared culture and heritage.<div type="image" title="A crowd at Basement Bhangra at Central Park's SummerStage, August 6, 2022." height="2000" width="2666" msid="93599333" hostid="261"></div>From its inception in 1997 throughout its 20 years, Basement Bhangra became an institution for New York City's South Asian community. DJ Rekha, a Queens-native, held court at SOB's, a nightclub in Lower Manhattan, spinning tracks late into the night for patrons of all ages to dance to."By example, I am visibly queer. And I had my own personal journey with that. That's a statement in itself," founder DJ Rekha, whose full name is Rekha Malhotra, explained to Insider. "What most people don't realize about the diaspora and dance music is that the earliest club nights were started by queer folks, and that part of our history is not necessarily acknowledged." Though it was shuttered in 2017, the dance party has become synonymous with diasporic history, marking itself as the backdrop for the coming of age of South Asians on the East Coast since the late 90s.<h2>The birth of Basement Bhangra</h2>Prior to living in the United States, Rekha spent some of their early years in London. Throughout the late 80s and early 90s, South Asian youth across Great Britain partied during the daytime at clubs and danced to Bhangra music, creating an underground South Asian rave-like scene. Not only did this allow South Asian youth to claim a safe space for themselves <a href="https://www.thefader.com/2017/01/10/british-asian-daytimers-history-riz-ahmed">at a time when discrimination in the UK was pervasive</a>, but it also opened doors for an entire generation of DJs in the diaspora.<div type="image" title="South Asian partygoers dancing at Basement Bhangra." height="1333" width="2000" msid="93599335" hostid="261"></div>Rekha began their career as a DJ in New York City the early 90s, spinning at Soca Paradise, an old nightclub that was a hub for Queens' Indo-Caribbean population during their early days. They would spin Chutney Soca, a hybrid genre of music popular in Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, and Suriname. The sounds of Chutney Soca fuse Hindustani Classical with Western and Island elements. Instruments with deep history in South Asia, such as the harmonium and tabla, are often incorporated, with a mix of Hindi and English lyrics.The exposure from Rekha's early career spinning tracks for South Asian youth attracted organizers who asked them to create a themed club night. This eventually evolved into a monthly event, known as Basement Bhangra, which took place on the first Thursday of every month.Rekha said that they often received "racist" and "classist" directives from other clubs they DJ'd for."Don't play 'Black music' and don't play Bhangra. [It was] classist against Bhangra because that was seen as the music of cab drivers, the lower-wage workers of our community, and it was racist because they assumed 'Black music' would attract a different crowd," Rekha explained. As a DJ who would often spin songs that the audience wouldn't understand due to language barriers, Rekha began to recognize the importance of dance and movement in the songs they played. <h2>DJ Rekha's indelible mark</h2>Over the years, DJ Rekha has become a mentor to young, up-and-coming musicians of the diaspora. Basement Bhangra has birthed the careers of some of the South Asian diaspora's most gifted artists."DJ Rekha is legendary," Sikh Knowledge, a Canadian-Punjabi rapper who performed at the 25th anniversary Basement Bhangra party, told Insider. "Rekha made a space for queer Desis. A safe space for femme queer men, lesbian Punjabi women — you were safe there no matter how you presented." The musician first learned about Basement Bhangra through cultural programming when he was growing up in Toronto. On Sundays, Canadian television showed various cultural programming and spotlighted Basement Bhangra. At the 25th anniversary party, American Punjabi singer and rapper Jasmine Sandlas headlined and performed some of her biggest hits, including "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7_yY3yr-jE">Illegal Weapon</a>," which has garnered over half a billion views on Youtube.<h2>A space for creativity and experimentation</h2>True to its original founding ethos, Basement Bhangra also became a place where burgeoning South Asian musicians could experiment with new forms of expression."It was the first to really allow us to feel a space in the nightlife community, a space where you could actually get down to your own music from your own culture," Raaginder, an Indian violinist, told Insider.The unique blend of music emerging from the South Asian diaspora — like Raaginder's blend of Indian classical violin and hip hop — often elides a specific genre."My sound is an amalgamation of my upbringing in the diaspora," Raaginder said. "I'd listen to hip hop, Jay-Z, Kanye at school, and grew up singing and playing Indian drums and violin at home with my musician parents. I had this really cool intersection of two different worlds that I was living in and was inspired by."<div type="image" title="Raaginder Singh, an Indian violinist." height="1537" width="2048" msid="93599341" hostid="261"></div>Basement Bhangra not only cultivated a space that allowed for diverse music from an immigrant diaspora to flourish, but also exposed bands like Red Baraat, which fuses North Indian brass music with jazz, to more South Asian fans.Red Baraat didn't initially have a defined audience. It wasn't until they played some sets at Basement Bhangra that the band exploded in popularity among South Asian listeners."Rekha definitely put us in front of a large group of people who probably didn't hear about us, hardcore Punjabis who were ready to throw down," Sunny Jain, Red Baraat's founder and dhol player, said.<h2>The next generation of music</h2>Basement Bhangra was pivotal in increasing South Asian representation in music, and artists said its legacy will have a lasting impact on the next generation of musicians in the diaspora."Having that representation is such a big thing, because you won't feel like you're doing this for the first time. That adds so much pressure," Raaginder said.Musicians told Insider the sense of being a part of a larger community of musicians will lead to more experimentation and vibrant new sounds from the next generation of South Asian creators."I feel like our moment is coming soon," Raaginder said. "The South Asian moment is knocking on the door."As for what's next, DJ Rekha has a clear idea of where they hope Basement Bhangra's legacy leads."There's two things," the DJ explained. "One, we, as South Asians, want access to the same things that everybody else has, and two, we should give everyone the same access. As much as it's great to see South Asian excellence in entertainment, I want to see us open doors for not only ourselves but for other groups as well."

The song, penned by Gulzar, is the first independent track released by the composer under his label, Vishal Bhardwaj Music. The inimitable Gulzar, juxtaposes the beauty of the nature with pandemic, advising people to be patient till the time things return to normal. "Aaftaab Uthega To Kirano Se Chhanega Wo/Gehri Zehrili Si Hawaa Mein Roshni Bhar Denga Who…Meethi Hamari Zameen Bimaar Na Ho/Hath Ke Betho Zara Hath Ke Zara Thodi Jagah To Do," sing Vishal and Rekha. Produced and Mixed by Debarpito Saha, the video of the song features shots of the people, who have been worst hit by the coronavirus-induced lockdown that brought the country to halt, and the rising sun inducing faith that this too shall pass. Mumbai, Jul 12 () The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sealed actor Rekha's bungalow in suburban Bandra after a security guard there tested coronavirus positive, a civic official said on Sunday. The guard at the 65-year-old 'Umrao Jaan' actor's bungalow 'Sea Springs' tested positive on Tuesday, the official said. The BMC has put a board outside the premises declaring the place as a containment area. The security guard has been hospitalised at the BMC's COVID-19 care facility in Bandra Kurla Complex, he said. As the bungalow is a standalone one, only a portion of it has been sealed, he said. KK VT VT VT

He also said that India would have to drive home the advantage on the fact that the world is now convinced of its views on terrorism from across the border by continuing to put forth its views on this matter. "The first thing is that with whom in Pakistan you will decide about laxman rekha — with an elected government or with other actors. So India will have to be alert and conscious all the time. There should not be any laxity and negligence," he told <keyword id="19470" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Times-now">Times Now</keyword>. 
Modi was asked what is the 'lakshman rekha' for holding talks Pakistan because in 2014 it was said it will be only talks between the two countries and not with Hurriyat, the second was 26/11 and now Pathankot. 
He said because of his consistent efforts like the visit to Lahore or inviting the Pakistan Prime Minister here that he no longer has to convince the world about India's stand on terrorism. 
"The world in one voice is praising India's role. Pakistan is finding it difficult to answer. The world is watching. If we remain an obstacle then we will have to convince the world that we are not like this. 
"Earlier the world would not buy India's theory on terrorism and sometime it would even treat it as out law and order problem. Now the whole world is accepting what India says on terrorism. It is accepting the loss caused to India by terorrism, the loss caused to humanity by terrorism. I believe India will have to continue putting forth its view on this matter," the prime minister said.

This week it was the turn of unconventional movies <keyword id="73533" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="roar">Roar</keyword> and <keyword id="1527505" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Super-Nani">Super Nani</keyword> trying their luck out at the Indian box office. 
 Directed by Indra Kumar, Super Nani has <keyword id="182" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rekha">Rekha</keyword> in the lead role. The movie raked in Rs 1.60 crore on the opening on Friday and went on to add Rs 1.55 crore on Saturday and Rs 1.7 crore on Sunday. For a movie of this budget, Super Nani has managed to get some good business thanks to the positive word of mouth publicity and it might be able to end up in the green. 
 
Roar is a thriller movie, which managed an average opening of Rs 1.5 crore on Friday and earned Rs 1.42 crore and 1.8 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Even Roar seems to have hit the right chord with its target audience and is doing decent business. 
 On the other hand, <keyword id="43845" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Happy-New-Year">Happy New Year</keyword> continues its spectacular run at the box office, collecting Rs 8.6 crores on the second Sunday or 10th day of the film’s release. By the looks of it, Happy New Year is gunning to get its name etched in the Rs 300-crore club, but will it be able to enter the Rs 500-crore club or break the earning collection record set by Dhoom 3 is something that we will have to wait and see.

A survey conducted by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/accenture-has-acquired-one-of-the-biggest-digital-agencies-in-germany/articleshow/57256179.cms">Accenture</a> has come up with shocking revlations about the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/survey-reveals-shocking-details-about-gender-pay-gap/articleshow/57495188.cms">gender pay gap</a> in India, citing that Indian men earn 67% more on average than their women counterparts. This disparity is much higher than the global average of 40% across industries. 
 
The survey, titled 'Getting to Equal 2017', is based on the average pay gap between employed men and women across levels in 31 industries over a 12-month period. For the purpose of this survey, bonuses were excluded from consideration, and 28,000 women and men were surveyed in 29 countries.

"Culturally, women are still meant to be prime care-givers at home. It is culturally acceptable for women to take breaks. Even otherwise, women don't negotiate for better pay and are more accepting of what they are offered." 
 
If trends remain as are, the pay gap won't close until 2080 in developed markets, and 2168 in developing markets, said the survey.
