The Nifty declined by 140 points to close at 22,302 while BSE Sensex also plummeted by 383 points to close at 73,511 points. The Nifty Midcap 100 saw substantial losses, ending the trading session down by 987.75 points at 49,674.45. "The Nifty lost 140 points over the day to close at 22,303. It started on a negative note in today’s session and remained weak throughout the entire trading session. On expected lines, the markets witnessed a sharp fall / sell off once Nifty breached an inside day or inside bar low of 22,409 in today’s opening trading session. It was clearly a day in favour of the bears. The Nifty index had formed an inside day or inside bar pattern on the daily chart in Monday’s trading session and the momentum on the downside got accelerated once Nifty breached an inside day low of 22,409 in today's trading session. The broader markets underperformed as compared to the mainline indices," said Tejas Shah, Technical Research, JM Financial &amp; BlinkX. "It was a weak day yet again for Indian bourses, marked with enhanced volatility and continued <keyword id="21360658" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FII-selling" source="keywords">FII selling</keyword>. The net sales by FIIs in the secondary market in April has continued in May as well," said Ajay Bagga, market and banking expert. He added, "Markets are reducing exposure in the light of the June 4 results announcement for the national elections. Despite positive global cues, the lack of any strong domestic earnings upgrades means that markets could stay sideways till the 4th of June". Bank Nifty also declined for the second consecutive day by 609 points and closed at 48,285 points. "Bank Nifty is showing more profit booking as compared to Nifty. In the last trading session, it has closed below 48400, now we can expect a fall toward the 47700 level. 49300-49500 is an immediate resistance area; above this, we can expect a move towards the 50000 level," said Pravesh Gour, senior technical analyst, Swastika Investmart Ltd. In the Nifty 50 list 15 shares closed in advance while 35 shares closed with decline and Hindustan Unilever, Tech Mahindra, Britannia, Nestle India and TCS made into the list of top gainers while Bajaj auto, Power grid, ONGC, IndusInd Bank and Hindalco made into the list of top losers of the day. The Nifty has declined around 500 points while Sensex has tanked around 1500 points since Friday. In the currency market, dollar strengthened against the yen, while commodities like oil and gold remained relatively stable amidst geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. "In global markets, shares traded near one-month highs on Tuesday, buoyed by renewed confidence in potential U.S. interest rate cuts. Last week witnessed a significant shift in investor sentiment regarding the U.S. interest rate outlook, with market pricing indicating the likelihood of multiple rate cuts by the end of 2024," said Varun Aggarwal, MD, Profit Idea. Additionally, concerns over adverse weather conditions in key agricultural regions contributed to wheat, corn, and soybean prices trading at multi-month highs. In the morning the stock markets commenced trading on a positive note, as both the Sensex and Nifty indices saw gains, aligning with global market trends. Sensex opened 74.96 points up at 73970.50, while Nifty 50 opened 35.70 points higher at 22478.40. Sensex-Nifty ends in red amid enhanced volatility and continued FII selling

Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China, accounted for the lion's share — that's 72% — of payments in the currency, and the UK accounted for about 5.5% of total transactions.Despite the recent surge in usage, the Chinese yuan was only the fifth most commonly used currency for global payments, accounting for 2.1% of the total pie — though up from 1.7% from October 2020.The US dollar still dominates currency usage, as 42% of global payments were made via the greenback in October 2022.Data released by the Moscow Exchange also shows deepening ties between China and Russia, with trade in the yuan-ruble pair averaging almost 9 billion yuan, or $1.25 billion, each day in October, according to an analysis from <a href="https://www.reuters.com/markets/currencies/yuans-new-dollar-russia-rides-redback-2022-11-28/">Reuters.</a> Previously, they rarely overshot the 1 billion yuan mark in an entire week.Russia's ballooning interest in the redback — a colloquial term for the yuan — follows hard-hitting sanctions against Moscow for invading Ukraine, which restricted Russian banks' access to the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-eu-announce-some-russian-banks-removed-from-swift-2022-2">Swift banking system.</a> Nearly half of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-admits-it-cant-access-nearly-half-foreign-currency-reserves-2022-3">Russia's foreign currency reserves</a> — <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/currencies/russia-accuses-us-of-stealing-cash-gold-reserves-sanctions-ukraine-2022-10">including cash and gold</a> — have also been frozen. The company will utilise IPO proceeds towards debt repayment, funding acquisition of future real estate projects, and general corporate purposes. The company is in the business of real estate construction, development and other related activities in India. As of June 30, 2022, it had 12 ongoing projects and 21 forthcoming projects across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), under affordable, mid and mass, and some premium categories. The total borrowings of the company increased to ₹1,557 crore in FY22 from ₹1,220 crore in FY21. The company added that the development of real estate projects involved significant expenses, a large part of it funded through financing from banks and other financial institutions. The company mentioned in its red herring prospectus that it may face issues in raising additional loans. “Moreover, certain of our loan documents contain provisions that may limit our ability to incur future debt, make certain payments or take certain actions,” it said. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market as they offloaded shares worth Rs 595.32 crore on Wednesday, as per provisional exchange data. "Taper rumours have again started impacting markets. Minutes of the latest US Fed meet indicate that tapering of bond purchases may start later this year. This triggered a risk-off in markets with the Dow and S&amp;P 500 correcting by 1.1 per cent each on the 18th," said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services. Tapering is negative news for markets since it will eventually reduce the liquidity available in the financial system, he noted. "But the positive dimension is that the Fed is indicating tapering since economic growth revival is strong. If growth and earnings recovery is strong, markets are likely to stage a rebound after the initial jitters," he noted. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul were trading with heavy losses in mid-session deals amid mounting worries of the spread of delta variant of coronavirus in the region. Support comes from sustained FII buying which has crossed Rs 7,000 crore during the last four trading days. "But, there is a major dampener in the form of fast-rising COVID-19 cases, especially in some economically significant cities. Restricted economic activity in these regions might impact the optimistic growth projections for FY 22," he added. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai and Seoul were trading on a positive note in mid-session deals, while Hong Kong and Tokyo were in the red. Sensex drops over 300 points in early trade, Nifty below 14,700

Mumbai, Mar 16 () Equities succumbed to yet another brutal selloff on Monday, with the Sensex logging its second-biggest drop in absolute terms, as the coronavirus pandemic continued to wreak havoc on the global markets. The 30-share BSE Sensex plunged 2,713.41 points or 7.96 per cent to finish at 31,390.07. Likewise, the broader NSE Nifty gave up the 9,200 level, slumping 757.80 points or 7.61 per cent to end at 9,197.40. This was the second biggest drop for the benchmarks in absolute terms. The Sensex and Nifty had plummeted 2,919.26 points and 868.25 points respectively on March 12. Asian markets nosedived after China's factory output and retail sales data came in sharply lower, fanning fears of a coronavirus-triggered economic slump. Meanwhile, the US Fed on Sunday made its second emergency rate cut in less than two weeks, slashing the benchmark borrowing rate to a range of 0-0.25 per cent, where it was during the 2008 global financial crisis. Dalal Street was buzzing with speculation of an inter-meeting rate cut by the RBI as well after Governor Shakitkanta Das called a press conference post market hours. However, the Reserve Bank stopped short of announcing a rate cut but hinted at doing so at the next MPC meeting on April 3, even as it rolled out more liquidity enhancing measures. All Sensex components ended in the red. IndusInd Bank was the top loser, skidding 17.50 per cent, followed by Tata Steel (11.02 per cent), HDFC (10.94 per cent), Axis Bank (10.38 per cent) and ICICI Bank (9.96 per cent). "Easing monetary policy action from central banks across the globe highlights that the impact of coronavirus is worse than thought. Economic, trade and travel shutdown are impacting equities across the globe," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services. All sectoral indices closed with losses, with BSE metal, bankex, finance, realty, IT and energy indices dropping up to 9.30 per cent. Broader mid-cap and small-cap indices fell up to 5.94 per cent. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai dropped 3.40 per cent, Hong Kong 4.03 per cent, Seoul 3.19 per cent and Tokyo cracked 2.46 per cent. European bourses too tumbled up to 8 per cent in opening trade as much of the region went into shutdown mode. Brent crude oil futures melted 7.53 per cent to USD 31.30 per barrel. The rupee depreciated 55 paise to 74.31 per US dollar (intra-day). Covid-19 has claimed over 6,000 lives and infected more than 1,62,000 people across the globe. Mumbai, Apr 13 () Market benchmarks Sensex and Nifty suffered heavy losses in a volatile session on Monday as investors anxiously waited for an almost certain extension to the natiowide lockdown amid mounting Covid-19 cases.The BSE gauge Sensex closed 469.60 points or 1.51 per cent lower at 30,0690.02, while the NSE benchmark Nifty ended 118.05 points or 1.30 per cent down at 8,993.85.With the 21-day lockdown period ending, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on Tuesday in which he is expected to announce a further extension in the spell.Indian market will remain closed on Tuesday for Ambedkar Jayanti.Coming back to Monday's trade, Indian bourses also felt pressure of subdued global equities reeling under the coronavirus crisis.In the Sensex chart, Bajaj Finance was the top laggard, plummetting over 10 per cent, followed by M&amp;M, Titan, Hero MotoCorp, ICICI Bank and Tech Mahindra.On the other hand, L&amp;T, Bharti Airtel, IndusInd Bank, UltraTech Cements and NTPC were among the gainers.Sensex heavyweights HDFC twins fell as much as 3.12 per cent, while Reliance Industries shed 2.46 per cent. The Indian markets are awaiting the decision of the government regarding the current lockdown. Market turns lower as coronavirus lockdown set to continue

New Delhi, Jun 18 () Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Thursday urged the government to consider setting up a coal exchange for transparent buying and selling of the dry fuel by multiple merchant miners in line with the existing commodity bourses. This, he said, would be major step towards achieving the target of USD 5 trillion economy. Speaking during the launch of auction of coal mines for commercial mining here, Chandrasekaran said, "The government should consider the concept of coal exchange as a trading platform for transparent method of buying and selling coal by multiple merchant miners in line with what exists in the commodity exchanges..." "That is one of the suggestions which I want to make but this will be one of the big stepping stones towards attaining the (USD) five trillion economy," he said. Chandrasekaran also lauded the government for opening the coal sector for commercial mining and said it would significantly reduce imports and create jobs. With such reforms, the mining sector can easily contribute 5 per cent to India's GDP, he added. Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal urged the government to let the industry adopt "self certification", stating that lot of difficulties are faced while seeking clearances. He also said heavy penalties should be imposed on defaulters. "It is my request to the minister (Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi) that except public hearing you should put everything on self certification. ...Public hearing is very important," Agarwal said. Coal bed methane has huge potential, he added. Agarwal further said commercial coal mining would help create infrastructure and help the people of backward regions to get employment. The government has put on sale 41 blocks for commercial mining. Eleven of these mines are in Madhya Pradesh, followed by nine each in Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand and three in Maharashtra. New Delhi, June 12 () Westlife Development, which operates McDonald's restaurants in southern and western region in India, expects demand to remain low in the short-term due to COVID-19 and subsequent disruptions. A large part of Westlife's restaurant business could not be made operational due to the lockdown which has impacted company's revenues and profitability, it said in a filing to the bourses informing about the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the business. "In the short-term, the company is estimating lower demands. Though we do hope the business situation will normalise soon, it is too early to assess the future impact of COVID-19 with reasonable certainty," it said. Currently, over 150 of Westlife's restaurants are operational through different business channels, the company, which owns Hardcastle Restaurants, the master franchisee of McDonald's restaurants for west and south India, said. Hardcastle Restaurants currently operates over 300 McDonald's restaurants across 42 cities and 11 states. "...as large part of our restaurant business could not be made operational due to lockdown, our revenues have been adversely impacted," the filing said. However, the business continued to incur committed expenditures, especially concerning employees and other expenditures not directly linked to revenues, during the lockdown, which significantly impacted profitability. Though the company had closed dine-in services at its McDonald's outlets, its McDelivery and drive-thru facilities were restarted after government releaxed lockdown restrictions. "As normalcy starts beginning June second week pursuant to directions of various states, we are ensuring commercial and supply readiness to open our restaurants, ensuring social distancing norms, highest measures on safety, health and hygiene of our staff, customers and vendors, not only for in-store but also for deliveries and takeaways," it said. There is no interruption in supply of food, packaging or toys, Westlife said. "We are working closely with our suppliers to ensure that we have a continuous supply of safe and fresh ingredients to ensure business continuity," it added. KRH RVK
