Jammu, Apr 14 () A man was booked and quarantined after he came to Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district from a COVID-19 red zone in Srinagar but hid his travel history, officials said on Tuesday.Mohinder Lal, a resident of Baradari in Reasi, took lift from cargo vehicles and reached home but failed to inform the authorities, they said.By hiding his travel history he put his family members and general public at risk, the officials said.After receiving information about Lal, police and health officials immediately put him under quarantine and registered a case against him, they said.The district administration had issued an advisory that people coming the Reasi must inform the authorities about their travel history, failing which strict action will be taken. By Anil Bhatt Reasi, Apr 13 () Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi have, for the first time, inducted volunteers to patrol roads in rural and mountainous areas of the district and ensure strict enforcement of the lockdown, officials said here on Monday.These volunteers, known as the 'Chokanna Panthal Group', will patrol the unmanned and unmotorable routes leading to Reasi and those in rural areas of the district round the clock, they added.The members of the group have been nominated by the local panchayats and provided identity cards, the officials said. Various locations have been identified and different groups are keeping round-the-clock vigil there, they added.The group members have been asked to submit reports on a daily basis to the deputy commissioner, the officials said.Village and urban surveillance committees are already working throughout the district, looking out for suspected coronavirus cases, they added."This is a novel idea. Volunteers are on patrol duty in rural areas. They will be policing around the clock," a senior district officer told .Sangram Singh, a volunteer, said he joined the initiative to ensure that strict restrictions are followed. "We have a responsibility towards our own country. So we came forward to share the responsibility of patrolling rural roads as you cannot put policemen everywhere. They also need rest," he added.Reasi, which houses the famous cave shrine of Vaishnodevi, has not reported any COVID-19 case so far, the officials said. AB IJT

COVID-19: JK's Reasi inducts volunteers to police rural, mountainous belts round the clock

Jammu, May 2 () Two more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Samba district, taking the number of confirmed cases in Jammu region to 60, officials said here on Saturday.Both of them are truck drivers by profession. They had returned to the Union territory from New Delhi and Mumbai on April 29 and were under administrative quarantine in the Ghagwal area of Samba, the officials said, adding that they were shifted to a dedicated hospital for COVID-19 cases.The officials said efforts were underway to identify all their contacts.With the fresh cases, the number of active cases in Jammu rises to eight. This includes two cases in Udhampur and one each in Rajouri, Kathua, Ramban and Reasi, they said. Fifty-one patients have recovered so far, while a 61-year-old woman from Udhampur district died of the infection, the officials said. Poonch and Doda districts have not recorded any coronavirus case so far, while one case reported from Kishtwar district has already recovered. TAS IJT

The night curfew will come into effect from Friday, the office of the Lt governor said. Jammu, Jul 11 () A 55-year-old patient died of coronavirus at a hospital here on Saturday, taking the death toll due to the infection in the Jammu region to 16, officials said. The patient, hailing from the Bari Brahmana area of Samba district, was admitted to the isolation ward of the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital Jammu on June 29 after he tested positive for coronavirus. He breathed last this afternoon, the officials said. They said the deceased was suffering from type 2 diabetes and carcinoma bladder with acute respiratory distress syndrome. His death, first from Samba district, raised the number of fatalities due to coronavirus in Jammu region to 16. Jammu district accounted for the highest number of nine COVID-19 related deaths followed by two in Doda and one each in Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch and Udhampur districts. The 10 districts of Jammu region had recorded a total of 2,094 cases, of which 1,454 patients have recovered so far. Jammu topped the list with 452 cases followed by 298 in Udhampur, 272 in Kathua, 254 in Ramban, 240 in Rajouri, 218 in Samba, 139 in Poonch, 124 in Doda, 53 in Reasi and 44 in Kishtwar, the officials said. Sixteen cases were reported from the Jammu region and 59 from the Kashmir region of the Union Territory. The cases detected on Tuesday included 23 persons who had returned to Jammu and Kashmir recently. Budgam district, in central Kashmir, had the highest number of cases at 14, followed by Srinagar and Anantnag districts at 10 cases each, the officials said. They said five districts – Jammu, Ramban, Doda, Reasi and Kishtwar – had no fresh cases. With Tuesday's fresh cases, the total number of infected persons in Jammu and Kashmir reached 5,298. Srinagar, Jun 13 () Jammu and Kashmir recorded 148 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking the total tally in the Union territory to 4,878, officials said. Of the new cases, 38 were reported in Jammu and the rest in the Kashmir region. These included at least 22 CRPF personnel from Kulgam district of south Kashmir and 35 people who had returned to the Union territory recently, they said. Kulgam district has the highest caseload at 45, followed by Shopian with 15 instances of the infection, the officials said, adding that only Reasi and Kishtwar reported no fresh case. Among the total cases, 3,743 are in Kashmir, while 1,135 are in Jammu region," an official said. With 2,269 cured of the disease, the number of active cases stood at 2,554 of which 1,813 were in Kashmir and 741 in Jammu, officials said, adding the union territory has so far witnessed 55 coronavirus-related deaths.
