New Delhi, Jan 23 () Bharti Airtel Chief Regulatory Officer Ravi Gandhi has resigned to pursue career outside the company, according to industry sources. 
The development comes at a time when Bharti Airtel is embroiled in a legal battle in adjusted gross revenue case and several other cases pending in various courts that can have financial implications on the telecom company. 
"Ravi Gandhi has resigned from Bharti Airtel and will continue to work with the company till March. He has expressed interest to pursue career outside the company," a person privy to the development said.
When contacted, a Bharti Airtel spokesperson confirmed the development.
Gandhi in his around 12-year stint in the firm has represented Bharti Airtel in several important cases which includes interconnection usage charges, various mergers and acquisitions, increasing foreign direct investment limit in the company to 100 per cent etc. 
According to another source, Gandhi is likely to join a non-telecom company. PRS MR

Incumbent telcos got into a fight with new entrant <keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance Jio</keyword> over the matter of transparency of tariff plans at the open house discussion held by the <keyword id="30356" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Telecom-Regulatory-Authority-of-India">Telecom Regulatory Authority of India</keyword> (<keyword id="6356988" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="TRAI">TRAI</keyword>). Bharti <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> and <keyword id="6354924" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Idea-Cellular">Idea Cellular</keyword> said that some offers, especially counter offers used to retain subscribers, should be kept confidential so that competitors can’t take advantage of the strategies. However, Jio was of the view that all plans should be made public on a common platform to maintain transparency. Telcos also demanded that they be allowed to segregate between new and existing users while offering tariff plans, adding that retention offers, which are more of less in the form of discounts, were not arbitrary and are instead based on several parameters including average revenue per user and customer loyalty. TRAI would most likely issue an order or guidelines in the coming 30 days on these issues. "When a customer wants to leave - going out of a continued relationship between customer and operator - this is the fundamental right of the operator to retain that customer, and it is not only specific to telecom industry... it is there for any industry where you can match the offer (from a rival)," said <keyword id="202324" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ravi-Gandhi">Ravi Gandhi</keyword>, regulatory head of Bharti Airtel. However, <keyword id="700571" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anshuman-Thakur">Anshuman Thakur</keyword>, head of strategy and planning at Reliance Jio disagreed to Gandhi’s view. "Current measures for transparency are not adequate because the specification of transparency in the industry is not consistent, therefore we again urge that all plans that are being offered by telcos are published in a common platform and people can see the plans, and nothing beyond those plans is offered to anyone else," Thakur said. "The customer should be able to choose what's best for him, because they're the ones paying. Only the authority can offer this," he added. It’s just been a few days that TRAI barred carriers from offering different plans to same-category subscribers. Airtel and Jio fight over transparency in tariffs at TRAI open house

Senior Supreme Court advocate <keyword id="195903" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mukul-Rohatgi">Mukul Rohatgi</keyword> has been appointed the new <keyword id="43805" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Attorney-General">Attorney General</keyword> of the country. Rohatgi was the front-runner for the post as he is considered to be close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 
 
“My priority would be to streamline the litigation process and cut down litigation between government departments and public sector undertakings. The new government will co-operate in this aspect as this government wants to change a lot,” said Rohatgi. 
 
Rohatgi was the BJP’s lawyer and defended the party in several cases, including the Babri Masjid demolition case. He also defended the BJP general secretary, Varun Gandhi, in a case regarding his alleged provocative speech in Uttar Pradesh in 2011. Only recently, the senior lawyer appeared for the yoga guru Baba Ramdev in a case related to his ‘honeymoon’ comment against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. 
 Rohatgi had served as Additional Solicitor General in the Vajpayee government. He is also considered to be close to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Law Minister <keyword id="6354886" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ravi-Shankar-Prasad">Ravi Shankar Prasad</keyword>. 
 
“They are my good friends. They will help me in my endeavour,” said Rohatgi about the ministers.

New Delhi, Nov 16 () After the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal rejected Rahul Gandhi's plea to consider Young Indian (YI) as a charitable institution, the Congress said Saturday Prime Minister Narendra Modi and "his cronies" can not change the "inalienable truth" that YI is a not-for-profit company.
Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and others have been accused of paying just Rs 50 lakh through which YI obtained the ownership of the Associated Journals Limited (AJL), which owed Rs 90.25 crore to the Congress party.
The BJP said AJL has properties worth more than Rs 2,000 crore. In July last year, the Income Tax department asked the YI to pay tax of around Rs 145 crore.
Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told reporters, "What is subjudice need not be commented upon. It may look like a setback for certain news channels, to certain news channels, but, I can assure you, the majesty of law will prevail and the truth out in the open is that Young Indian is a not-for-profit company and neither Mr. Modi nor his cronies can change this inalienable truth."

After having championed the cause of farmer’s and having made his anger against the current land bill evident, he is now out to ‘save the internet’ and champion the cause of <keyword id="6391709" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Net-neutrality">net neutrality</keyword>. 
 Speaking in the Parliament, during 'Question Hour', Rahul attacked the <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> led BJP Government saying, "This government wants to sell-out the internet to the rich industrialists of this country. I am asking the government not to carve out the internet and hand it over to the industrialists.' He further said, "I want the government to immediately stop the TRAI consultation and write a clear law on net neutrality.' 
 
Earlier in the day, he had moved an a notice of adjournment in the Parliament seeking discussion on the issue of net neutrality. The Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan allowed Gandhi to raise his concern, which was followed by a quick, but sharp rebuttal by Telecom and Information Broadcast Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad. 
 Prasad said, "When <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> Narendra Modi speaks about Digital India, he wants that every citizen of this country gets access to the internet. The government not only wants e-governance, but wants to give access to mobile governance to all its citizens." He further added, " TRAI is holding a consultation within its jurisdiction, but the final say in the matter lies with the <keyword id="6493697" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Telecom-Ministry">telecom ministry</keyword> and eventually the cabinet." 
 The telecom minister also made a scathing remark at the previous UPA2 regime, referring to August 2012, when the then telecom ministry under Kapil Sibal had ordered internet service providers to block 16 Twitter accounts, including those of right-wing entities and leaders such as Sangh Parivar, Panchjanya magazine, and Pravin Togadia's blogposts, as wlee as hundreds of web-pages featuring user-generated content on websites such as <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword> and Youtube. Prasad said, "when we are discussing this matter, why don't we ask Rahul Gandhi, the able politician that he is, about the Twitter handles that were blocked in August 2012." 
 
Post his 56-day vacation, this is the second time that Rahul Gandhi has attacked the Modi Government, providing a sense to the country that he might just have returned with an improved sense of issues to target, even touching all the correct ‘raw nerves’ of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government. 
 A month ago, Airtel’s Zero Plan and the TRAI’s consultation paper on over the top website usage created a huge furor amongst the youth in the country. The debate on net neutrality in India has reached such proportions that even Facebook Founder and CEO <keyword id="475824" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mark-Zuckerburg">Mark Zuckerburg</keyword> had to face the IRE OF India’s youth, resulting in many top internet companies leaving the internet.org platform. 
 Since then, TRAI has set up a consultation committee to discuss and debate the matter and arrive at a policy recommendation to the Telecom Ministry. Prasad, had earlier in the day said that the government has always been pro net neutrality and that a committee had already been set-up in January 2015 seeking opinion on the matter, the report on which will be submitted to DoT by the second week of May 2015. He further said that even this matter floated by TRAI will be first discussed by the department of telecom followed by the <keyword id="158388" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Telecom-Commission">Telecom Commission</keyword> and then a consolidated view will be taken. 
 
Going by the current momentum of things, this session of the Parliament is clearly all about showcasing the fact that Rahul Gandhi is ‘back for good’ and the new rejuvenated Gandhi scion will be making it rather tough for the BJP. But, above all the noise, there is only one factor that will determine how successful Rahul Gandhi really is, and that is his consistency in picking up the correct issues and the aggressive, well-researched manner he goes about charging at the BJP.

The Indian government has stepped in and is going to work on a war footing in the wake of hacking of Twitter and personal accounts of Congress Vice-President <keyword id="5268" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rahul-Gandhi">Rahul Gandhi</keyword>, liquor baron <keyword id="14678" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Mallya">Vijay Mallya</keyword>, and senior journalists <keyword id="357957" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Barkha-Dutt">Barkha Dutt</keyword> and <keyword id="319216" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ravish-Kumar">Ravish Kumar</keyword> by Legion group. They have also threatened to hack parliament’s website. 
 IT Minister <keyword id="6354886" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ravi-Shankar-Prasad">Ravi Shankar Prasad</keyword> has called for an audit of entire IT infrastructure and ordered review of the financial sector starting immediately with the National Payment Corporation of India (<keyword id="193629" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NPCI">NPCI</keyword>), review of the IT Act to make it stronger and setting up a crack team to respond to unusual incidents on a war footing. 
 
The government has also asked Twitter and payment wallets to strengthen their network. NPCI is an umbrella organisation for all retail payments system in India. 
 
"There is huge traffic flowing through the IT platforms, if there is any mishap, the systems have to be resilient and we have to take appropriate measures. We have to be alert, there is nothing to be scared of," said Prasad. 
 
A meeting was also called of bankers and more than 50 officers from IDFC, ICICI, SBI, Canara Bank, etc attended it. 
 
"We have sought details from all the people whose accounts have been hacked and Twitter has also been asked to strengthen its security and to pay attention to any unusual movement," Prasad told ET.

HC notice to Fadnavis over Axis Bank account transfer issue

Key ministers of the <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> government said they are all for reforms and economic growth, and that they would keep pursuing it in the Modi tenure. He said the upper house of Parliament had become the "last bastion of obstructionism" and it seems to him that the party's "mid-command" might be under pressure from the high command to block.

Not just have a general policy for app developers, but defined according to region,” said cyber-security expert Gandhi. But none of this will be fool-proof. “Through push notifications, major political parties are still reaching out to people that don’t follow them. After that, peer promote factor too comes into play,” said Raghavendra Hunasgi, Founder, Thoughtfolks media, who has done political social media campaigns in the past. He also pointed out that eight different agencies are already working for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party while its rival Congress has hired 11 agencies to work on social media.

Facebook India has a very high-profile job waiting for the right candidate

New Delhi, Nov 15 () Reliance Jio on Friday said that delaying the implementation of zero call connect charges beyond January 2020 will hurt affordability of telecom services in a sector where users have benefited from free voice calls.
 Reliance Jio Director Mahendra Nahata said that the ratio of incoming and outgoing call is now at par with each other and traffic asymmetry can, therefore, no longer be the reason to delay implementation of Bill and Keep (BAK) regime (that is zero mobile termination charge from January 1, 2020).
 Traffic symmetry indicates that telecom operator will not have any outstanding balance of interconnect usage charges (IUC) against other networks.
 Speaking at Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (Trai) open house on IUC issue, Nahata said Airtel had expanded 4G network and Vodafone Idea too is talking about expanding their 4G network.
 "We are not considering any profit or loss, but opposing it on the basis of principle. Criticising the decision of government or regulatory authorities from a distant location is beyond our understanding. Therefore, please take a decision after due diligence on all the points that we have raised," he said.
 Nahata questioned data being shown by telecom operators and alleged that the subscriber traffic is being diverted to 2G, 3G network to show cost of voice is high.
 Nahata said that in case Trai does not favour implementation of BAK regime from January 2020 then at least interconnect usage charges currently at 6 paise should be brought down.
 "When you had implemented 6 paise charge, 4G traffic was one per cent. Today that traffic is much higher so the costs must have come down," he said.
 A Vodafone Idea official said that consumers today have the option of moving to other networks through mobile number portability (MNP).
 "Today customers have option of MNP and they can move to other network. It is wrong to say that any operator is holding back customers on 2G network," the official said, demanding that the mobile call termination charges should continue.
 Airtel said that IUC should not come down to zero and the BAK regime should be postponed by at least three years.
 Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel's Chief Regulatory Officer Ravi Gandhi rejected allegations of data fudging terming them as "misplaced" and said that people at times used the company's SIM into second slot of mobile phone which generally supports 2G or 3G network.

Prasad also noted Supreme Court’s exceptional hearing at 3 AM, in which it rejected Memon’s lawyers' last-minute attempt to stay his hanging. 
 
Taking a dig at Tharoor, Rudy said, "If such was his feelings, he should have intervened at right time but not debate an issue when it has been settled." 
 
BJP secretary Shrikant Sharma took on the Congress over its two leaders' comments, saying the opposition party had always spoken in different voice on terrorism. 
 
"Whether it is Mani Shankar Aiyar or Digvijay Singh and we have comments from Tharoor today, they (Congress) have always seen to be speaking for terrorists. It is clear from their statements today that they are insulting the peace-loving people who want to get rid of terrorism," Sharma said.
