India can also seek help from Norway, Sweden or New Zealand to create a blueprint of a system. But their projects have to be scaled to meet the size of India. The population of these countries are only one-fourth the size of urban cities in India — Norway has a population of 55 lakh whereas Mumbai has over two crore people. At best, their national-scale ideas can be replicated to Indian cities but can be useful initially. Giri believes that international players with technology to make hydrogen safe — like Air Products and Linde — are already here in India. “These companies will take up contracts for setting up gas infrastructure and storage devices alongside the highways. They will be crucial for dispensing infrastructure like gas fueling stations,” he said. How will India make Hydrogen? Currently, there are two approaches to collect hydrogen. One is the electrolysis of water. However, water is a scarce resource. The other is <keyword id="6354703" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="natural-gas">natural gas</keyword> which can be split into two parts Hydrogen and one part Carbon. The hydrogen can be used for fuel and the leftover carbon, once solidified, can be used to create speciality materials for sectors like space, aerospace, auto, shipbuilding, electronics and more. While these two approaches are already on the market, there is one more approach which is not yet business-ready — absorbing Methane directly from the air and then using scrubbers to convert that gas into hydrogen and carbon. Prototypes are already in the works in Europe, Saudi Arabia and the US. “We just need to implement them on-ground and commercialise these technologies in a way that you have a substantial quantity of fuel,” explained Giri. What will happen to lithium batteries and electric cars? Electric cars are currently the flavour of the season but the use of lithium batteries comes with a set of challenges. For one, most of the lithium batteries are imported and there are ‘range anxiety’ issues which hydrogen fuel can ease. Electric cars can go for around 200-250 kilometres before needing to recharge. Hydrogen cars will be able to go twice the distance if not more. That means less fueling stations and less stress for the drivers. Most importantly, there’s more hydrogen around than there is lithium in the world. “Lithium batteries will fall behind due to the sheer abundance of Hydrogen,” said Giri. Hydrogen, if done right, will be a good alternative for a conventional internal combustion engine. It can also help meet the massive energy needs of India’s exploding population. "I have Mr Tata's support to set up a new fund that will straddle the middle path between philanthropy and venture capital. The fund will sit outside the Tata Trusts' architecture but will invest in socially relevant and viable businesses incubated within the trust," Manoj Kumar, head of innovation at the Tata Trusts, told ET. 
 
Tata Trusts has its innovation centres in Indian Institute of Science, Indian Institute of Technology and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which would be used as the first layer in this structure. 
 
Socially relevant business ideas will get funds through grants that these institutions get, and the ones that will prove their worth would then get transferred to the Foundation for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (FISE), under Kumar's leadership. 
 
FISE will be the second layer of the structure. 
 
The third layer would then be a fund for enterprises with maximum potential for social change.

Tatas might start funding social enterprises

New Delhi, May 14 () Tata Trusts on Thursday said it is upgrading four government hospital buildings, two in Uttar Pradesh and two in Maharashtra, into COVID-19 treatment centres. The facilities, including both in-patient and out-patient wings, are permanent and will enhance healthcare in the locations even after the immediate purpose is met, Tata Trusts said in a statement. The hospitals in Maharashtra are at Sangli with 50 beds and Buldhana with 106 beds. The hospitals in Uttar Pradesh are at Gautam Buddha Nagar with 168 beds and Gonda with 106 beds, it added. The company is attempting to hand over the facilities by June 15, 2020. The treatment centres in Uttar Pradesh are in collaboration with a partner organisation, it added. Each hospital will be armed with critical care capabilities, minor operation theatres, basic pathology and radiology, facilities for dialysis and blood storage and telemedicine units, Tata Trusts said. The move follows the Tata Trusts Chairman Ratan N Tata's statement that, "Urgent emergency resources need to be deployed to cope with the needs of fighting the COVID-19 crisis, which is one of the toughest challenges the human race will face".  The <keyword id="123235" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Charitable-Trust">charitable trust</keyword> owns 66% of <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword>, which is the holding entity of all companies controlled by the conglomerate that deals in a variety of interests, ranging from salt, cars, technology and steel.

The trust deals in healthcare, water, rural upliftment, energy, education, relief, rehabilitation and individual grants, and boasts of the creation of institutes such as the Indian Institute of Science, Tata Memorial Hospital, Tata Institute of Social Sciences and the National Centre for the Performing Arts, all reputed names in their respective fields. 
 However, only recently it was in the news because of former Tata Sons chairman <keyword id="6356895" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cyrus-Mistry">Cyrus Mistry</keyword> <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/war-intensifies-cyrus-mistry-is-going-to-challenge-chandrasekarans-appointment-as-tata-sons-chairman/articleshow/56642005.cms">questioning its governance structure</a> and ambit of power. Ratan Tata calls Tata employees inheritors and custodians of Tata Trusts

<keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword>, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, has invested an undisclosed amount in San Francisco-based medical emergency response start-up called <keyword id="2953688" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="MUrgency">MUrgency</keyword> Inc. 
 "He (Tata) clearly wanted us to launch and grow the network in India first before taking it overseas. Mr Tata's investment in MUrgency will help attract leading talent to the company and major partnerships beyond India," MUrgency Inc Fonder <keyword id="378311" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shaffi-Mather">Shaffi Mather</keyword> stated. 
 
The firm was founded in 2014 in Silicon Valley and was incubated out of Stanford ChangeLabs; it has also recently received investments from Kris Gopalakrishnan and Axilor Ventures, led by S D Shibulal. 
 
In India, the service was launched in Tricity area in Punjab in February this year, with a network of 36 hospital emergency rooms, over 40 ambulances and more than 350 medical professionals. 
 
Similar services are also said to be expected to be launched in Amritsar and Jalandhar towards the end of this month, and cover the entire state of Punjab by next month. 
 
Long term goals include covering all India by 2018 and the world by 2020. 
 
As per the company claims, emergency response can be made available with just one tap on a mobile phone in less than nine minutes in urban areas. 
 
"While our primary goal is to develop emergency medical response network, we are widening our service to be an inclusive and comprehensive medical service platform on your mobile phone. Medical emergency response start-up MUrgency finds an investor in Ratan Tata

In a statement, <keyword id="6356895" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cyrus-Mistry">Cyrus Mistry</keyword> denied that he was a hands-off chairman with respect to <keyword id="97015" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Consultancy-Service">Tata Consultancy Service</keyword> and <keyword id="6354362" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jaguar-Land-Rover">Jaguar Land Rover</keyword> and that he instead helped improve the cash conversion cycle at the IT company, enabling it to declare a special dividend.

It added that Mistry had also attended TCS customer summits in the US and Europe and had been scheduled to attend its summit in Japan in November. 
 The statement from Mistry’s office also said that <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword> had also once approached JRD Tata with a proposal from IBM to buyout TCS. 
 
The letter stated that at the time, FC Kohli, the then head of TCS was suffering from a cardiac condition and that JRD had refused to discuss the deal while Kohli was still in the hospital. 
 
“On his return, Mr. Kohli assured JRD that TCS had a bright future and the group should not sell the company. JRD Tata turned down the offer, demonstrating true vision. But, it was also a neardeath experience for TCS at the hands of Mr. Ratan Tata,” the statement said. 
 The <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata Group</keyword> and Cyrus Mistry have each been issuing a slew of letters and there been a series of dueling leaks from their camps, since Mistry was ignominiously removed as Group Chairman in October.
