“The company has entered into an agreement with Rasoi Ltd, the edible oil arm of Rasoi Group to acquire edible oil brand Rasoi,” Emami said in a statement. "Rasoi is a heritage brand that enjoys very strong brand equity. It is a leading Vanaspati brand in West Bengal and one of the leading producers of Vanaspati in India that enjoys a strong legacy of consumer trust," Emami Group Director Aditya V Agarwal said. 
 
He added, "With the acquisition of the 'Rasoi' brand, we would be adding Vanaspati to our existing portfolio, enabling us to offer a wide range of choices to our consumers." 
 
Emami Group Director Manish Goenka said Emami Biotech will become Rs 5,000-crore company by FY2014-15. "The acquisition of Rasoi brand is part of our inorganic growth plan and has been funded internally. This is line with our overall growth strategy to emerge as the one of the top three edible oil companies in India," he said.

(Eds: Fixing typo in para 2) Kota (R'than), May 19 () Richa and her mother-in-law are busy cooking food for nearly 400 needy people, while her husband and father-in-law are making arrangements for packaging and distribution. This has been a regular day scene for the Jain family of Kota's Dadabari area since March 22, when the Janata curfew was announced and Richa decided to put the idea of helping the needy before her family. A postgraduate in social work, Richa thought of doing her bit after hearing about so many people going hungry due to the lockdown. She asked her family if they could start feeding the needy with the money saved for the "big party" they had planned on her daughter's fourth birthday. Her husband Chanchal Jain, an insurance officer, mother-in-law Gayatri Jain and father-in-law Pawan Jain welcomed the idea and the family decided that everyday the women would cook food while the men would take care of arranging ration, packing meals and distribution. As the news spread about 'Ghar ki Rasoi' (home kitchen), name Richa gave to the initiative, serving food to people in slum areas, many Samaritans came forward and started contributing to keep the kitchen running. "As we started cooking food at home and distributing meal packets among the needy at CAD circle and other slum areas of the city, help started pouring in with handsome contribution for the continuity of food distribution from 'Ghar Ki Rasoi'", Richa said. "I and my mother-in-law cook the food while my husband and father-in-law make the packets and distribute them among the needy," she said, claiming they distribute nearly 400 meal packets every day. "Many people and groups, including the Kota Super Moms headed by Kritika Shringi and Abhilesha Club of women and also some neighbours, have come forward with funds for the 'Ghar Ki Rasoi' to strengthen the mission of helping people in these difficult times," Richa said. The food packets were also being distributed to coaching students stuck in hostels and PGs due to the lockdown but most of them have now left for their native places, she said. "We are also supplying free food packets on call and if required dry ration bags are also given to the needy people," Richa said. She said 35-40 food packets from the 'Ghar ki Rasoi' are also being sent for patients in Bharat Vikas Parishad hospital in the morning and evening. "We had planned a big party on the fourth birthday of my daughter Khiyati on April 30 but it did not seem possible due to the lockdown and my wife proposed to use the money saved for the party for this noble cause," Richa's husband, Chanchal Jain, said. He said Richa started the 'Ghar Ki Rasoi' and all family members helped her. Chanchal said he distributes food packets among the needy and his father helps him in packaging. Kota family opens up kitchen to the needy amid lockdown

Bhopal, Oct 28 (IANS) In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP has issued a sankalp-patra (resolution document), a manifesto of sorts for the bypolls that promises the provision of a free Coronavirus vaccine to every person in the state by the government. Recently, in the election manifesto issued for Bihar elections, the BJP had also promised a free Corona vaccine. The BJP has issued separate sankalp patras for all the 28 assembly constituencies in the state where by-elections are taking place that give details of the work proposed by the government in the state. The main page of the document has a picture of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, party national president J.P. Nadda and state president Vishnu Dutt Sharma. In the resolution document, the BJP has promised that the vaccine will be provided free of cost. It has also promised that every grain of wheat and paddy will be procured and the money sent directly to the bank accounts of farmers. More than 27,000 crore rupees have been deposited directly in the bank accounts of farmers, claims the document. The resolution document gives details of the crop insurance scheme in the state, farm loans and social security schemes at zero per cent interest rate, while also listing the scholarships being given to children from poorer sections. The financial assistance to poor families from birth to death has also been mentioned. In the resolution document, the Kamal Nath government has been charged with shutting down the pro-poor schemes launched by the Shivraj Singh government. The BJP's document alleges that the Deendayal Rasoi scheme to provide food at inexpensive prices to the poor had been discontinued by the Kamal Nath government, which has been resumed by the BJP government. The party promises that 4,000 rupees will be added to the Samman Fund launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the farmers. So, they will get a total of Rs 10,000 a year. New Delhi, Apr 17 () Amid the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus, nearly 40-50 farm labourers living on the Yamuna floodplains have been cut off from the rest of the world and left waiting for the boat with food packets to arrive. They are facing hardships due to lack of connectivity through roads and dependent on outsiders for basic amenities. Around 40-50 farm labourers are totally cut off and can be reached only through boats, Sonu Pandit, a resident of Chilla village, said. "There are 15-20 families, including mine, who receive food that is brought to us through boats. Life was already tough for us and the lockdown made things worse," said Shiv Kumar, 25, who works as a farm labourer along with his four brothers. A community kitchen ,'Sewa Rasoi', run by Virendra Sachdeva and his friends Rajiv Kohli and Vijemdra Dhama in Mayur Vihar, is providing food parcels to the farm labourers amid the lockdown. "We learnt about the plight of people living on the Yamuna floodplains. Around 200 food packets are being sent to them daily through a boat," said Sachdeva, former president of the Mayur Vihar unit of the BJP. Abdul, a 23-year-old farm labourer and a construction worker, said he was worried when the lockdown was announced as he relied on his daily wages for food. "But luckily, we get food packets and sometimes dry ration from Sewa Bharti. Earlier, we used to buy items from nearby localities but it has stopped now due to the lockdown. Dehradun, Apr 16 () The Uttarakhand BJP is running kitchens named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the state to provide food to those hit by the ongoing lockdown."Modi rasois" are being run at a number of places in the state, state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) media in-charge Ajendra Ajay said on Thursday, adding that these kitchens are being run mainly in the plains, where migrant labourers are stuck in large numbers.Asked whether food packets named "Modi Tiffin" are also being distributed among the needy as a photo being circulated on WhatsApp indicates, he did not deny it.A photo of a food packet with "Modi Tiffin" written on it is circulating on the social media. The cover of the packet also carries general instructions about hand-sanitising and covering one's face while sneezing or coughing. The name of BJP Rishikesh Mandal appears at the bottom.However, Ajay did not say anything specifically about "Modi Tiffin"."There is no hard and fast rule about serving food in a particular way. Our goal is to reach out to people with help," he said.The party launched the drive on March 28 on the direction of its central leadership to ensure that no one goes hungry during the lockdown.A total of 10,21,679 food packets have so far been distributed among the needy in the state as part of the drive, Ajay said.Dry ration packets, including rice, pulse and other essential items, have also been distributed among 94,493 people, he added.Party workers have established contact with 12,84,859 people to address their problems, the BJP leader said, adding that home-made masks and sanitisers are also being distributed among people. Though largely the working classes, including migrantworkers, and the indigent people, depend on Amma Canteens, apet scheme of late chief minister Jayalalithaa, now these havecome as a boon to several others who are feeling the pinch ofthe lockdown with pay cuts and loss of jobs.What'smore, the ruling AIADMK has started bearing thecost of the food served by the canteens in several cities andtowns, making it free for the customers.Of the 650 plus Amma Canteens, run by local bodies,scattered across the state, Chennai alone has 407, over twothirds, and dish out idlies for breakfast, variety rice forlunch and chapathis for dinner and have come in forappreciation for the quality. "I had a wrong impression previously that the food qualityhere is not good. But actually it is good and on par withother eateries. During these times of financial distress, AmmaCanteens are a boon," a young man, who lost his informationtechnology job a few months ago, said.The man turned up with tiffin boxes to take home food atthe city's Madipakkam locality where a large number of peoplethronged the canteen on Sunday, which also happened to be thefirst day of the four-day complete shutdown announced by thegovernment in major cities, including Chennai, to check spreadof the coronavirus.With the government announcing that all shops wouldremain closed during the four days, only the Amma Canteens,named so after Jayalalithaa, fondly called by her supportersas "Amma" (mother), were abuzz with activity.A variety of people such as truck drivers, guest workers,and also men and women from middle and upper middle classescould be seen arriving to eat or take food home as stafferswere busy cooking and cleaning up. As a mini-truck arrived at one such eatery in thesprawling but empty Madipakkam bus terminus on Sundayafternoon, the driver and another man got down from thevehicle hurriedly and walked up to the outlet and asked if"anything" was available to eat. When pat came the reply, "only sambar and curd rice rightnow" the duo was apparently relieved as it was not availableanywhere else.Usually, the Amma canteens do not offer take away but itis now allowed. A V Ganesan, a priest in a small local temple, said hewas happy that Amma canteens were open. "The LPG cylinder in my home has gone dry and this canteenis close to my home, and I can eat or take home food," hesaid.Free food was now a boon since many like him, who work intemples. have virtually no income, he added. In another locality, a couple of women and children, partof a group of street performers from Chattisgarh, are visuallyrelieved that the canteens are serving food free during thelockdown. "These are very tough times for us as there is no incomeand the canteens are no doubt a boon, it is a boon," a youngmother of two children said in a mixture of broken Tamil andHindi. In fact, it is a repeat of such scenes in several areas ofthe city and especially in north Chennai which has a sizablechunk of labour class population. At one such canteen in Vyasarpadi, people could be seenstanding in serpentine queues on Sunday, but maintainingsocial distancing. An Inter-Ministerial Central Team to assess the COVID-19situation in Tamil Nadu also visited a canteen on KamarajarSalai here. An official told that a special fund allocation of Rs19.54 crore has been made for Chennai Corporation AmmaCanteens and as a whole Rs 31.39 crore has been earmarked forall the eateries in the state. In Chennai alone 4.5 lakh people eat food at the canteensevery day while the rest of the state sees about 6.25 lakhfootfall. Since the start of the lockdown period, over 140.38 lakhidlis, 53.24 lakh rice items, and 37.85 lakh pieces ofchappathis have been distributed, benefiting about 85 lakhpeople, the official said.Launched by Jayalalithaa years ago, the canteens offeridlis at a cost of Rs one each, two pieces of roti at Rs 3,Pongal Rs 5 and rice varieties including sambar, lemon andcurd at Rs 5 a plate. Now the food is being offered free of cost with theAIADMK's local units footing the bill in major cities ofChennai, Salem and Coimbatore besides some other places inview of the lockdown.In Salem, the home district of Chief Minister KPalaniswami in western Tamil Nadu, eggs are being served freein addition to the regular menu, officials said.The state governments of Karnataka and Rajasthan hadlaunched Indira Canteens and Annapurna Rasoi respectivelyinspired by the Amma Canteens.
