The encounter took place when the troops of <keyword id="20037863" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rashtriya-Rifles" source="keywords">Rashtriya Rifles</keyword> and Special Operations Group of J&amp;K Police launched a joint cordon and search operation at Dhari Gote Urarbagi in Desa forest belt, some 55 km from Doda town, late Monday evening, the officials said. After a brief exchange of fire, the terrorists tried to escape but were chased by the brave troops led by an officer, despite challenging terrain and thick foliage, leading to another firefight in the woods around 9 pm, they said. Five soldiers were critically injured in the encounter and four of them, including the officer, later succumbed to injuries, the officials said. The services will be provided incentives and benefits under the central government's 'Udaan' scheme. The scheme is being implemented as per a tripartite agreement between the Gujarat government, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). For the maiden flight, the company has procured a Twin Otter 300 seaplane, which has arrived at Kevadiya SoU jetty. Infrastructural facilities such as a floating jetty are ready at both the places of landing and takeoff at lake number 3 at Kevadiya and at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad. Before that the PM will take part in the National Unity Parade. New Delhi, Dec 30 () Lt Gen Manoj <keyword id="6889859" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mukund-naravane">Mukund Naravane</keyword> will take charge as the Chief of Army Staff on Tuesday succeeding Gen Bipin Rawat. Gen Rawat is retiring on Tuesday as Army Chief after a three-year stint. He is widely expected to be appointed as the country's first Chief of Defence Staff. Official sources said the file relating to appointment of the CDS has been cleared by the competent authority on Monday but the government is yet to make an official announcement about it. Lt Gen Naravane is currently serving as Vice Chief of the Army. Before taking charge as vice chief of the Army Staff in September, Lt Gen Naravane was heading the Eastern Command of the Army which takes care of India's nearly 4,000-km border with China. In his 37 years of service, Lt Gen Naravane has served in numerous command and staff appointments in peace, field and highly active counter-insurgency environments in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast. He has also commanded a Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Jammu and Kashmir and an infantry brigade on the eastern front. He was also part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka and had served as India's defence attache at the Indian Embassy in Myanmar for three years. Lt Gen Naravane is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy. He was commissioned into the 7th battalion, the Sikh Light Infantry Regiment in June 1980. The General is a decorated officer who has been awarded the 'Sena Medal' (Distinguished) for effectively commanding his battalion in Jammu and Kashmir. He is also a recipient of the 'Vishisht Seva Medal' for his services as the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) in Nagaland and the 'Ati Vishisht Seva Medal' for commanding of a prestigious strike corps. The sources said the new CDS is likely to take charge on January 1. The defence ministry on Saturday amended rules to allow the Chief of Defence Staff to serve up to a maximum age limit of 65 years. The changes have been made in the services rules of the Army, Navy and the Indian Air Force for extension of retirement age of the Chief of Defence Staff to a maximum of 65 years if a service chief is appointed to the post. However, the tenure of the CDS is yet to be announced. In a landmark decision, the Cabinet Committee on Security had last Tuesday approved the creation of the CDS who will act as the principal military adviser to the defence minister on all matters relating to tri-services. A key mandate of the CDS will be to facilitate restructuring of military commands for optimal utilisation of resources by bringing about jointness in operations, including through establishment of joint/theatre commands. Officials said bringing about jointness in operation, logistics, transport, training, support services, communications, repairs and maintenance of the three services within three years will be another major mandate of the CDS. The tri-service agencies, organisations and commands relating to cyber and space will be under the command of the CDS and he will also function as the Military Adviser to the Nuclear Command Authority. Gen. Rawat assumed charge as Chief of Army Staff on December 31, 2016. Bhadarwah (J-K), Apr 26 () Fasting and charity are essential to Ramzan, and in this holiest month of Islam when the country is fighting coronavirus pandemic, 12 girls have come together in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir to stitch masks for free distribution. "All of us are on Ramzan fast. We have resolved to contribute in our own little way in the fight against the disease. Hope our sadqa (or sadaqah/charity) will be of some help," Aarzo Akhter (17), a resident of Pasri Mohalla, told . The initiative by the girls, who are voluntarily stitching the masks to handover to the district administration for free distribution, has been acknowledged by the local Army unit which came forward to help the group by providing them material. Ramzan started on Saturday on a subdued note due to the ongoing lockdown to check the spread of coronavirus. Both fasting (roza) and acts of charity (sadqa) are obligatory upon Muslims who are able to do so in this period. To provide face masks to every individual, the Doda district administration has not only involved self help groups and invited tenders to stitch the face covers, but has also appealed to locals to help meet the growing demand amid the COVID-19 crisis. "Initially we decided to contribute 20,000 masks, but now all of us have decided to render our services till the requirement of all the people is met," the leader of the group, Asma Bano (21) of Mohalla Haveli, said. The members, who are all fasting, said they feel motivated enough to stitch even more masks than their daily target. "We are stitching 200 extra masks than our target for the day. By this speed, Insha Allah (God willing) we will be able to handover the first installment of 5,000 masks to the administration by Wednesday," Asma said. Another volunteer Nazra Shahid (19) of Atalgarh village said she decided to pitch in after Prime Minister Narendra's Modi's appeal to the people to use face masks. She said the face masks were not easily available in the local markets. "I saw our Prime Minister on television making the appeal to the citizens of the country. We all know tailoring work and decided to contribute. What better occasion than this holy month," Shahid said, adding they have managed to stitch over 1,100 face covers since Saturday. Seeing the resolve and dedication of the girls, the local Rashtriya Rifles unit decided to join hands with the group to help them meet the target. "It is heartwarming to see the involvement of young girls who are fasting from dawn to dusk.
