Lalu Yadav’s RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) faced the 2019 elections as part of the Grand Alliance consisting of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP), Congress (INR), Vikashil Insan Party (VIP), and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) of Jitan Ram Manjhi. Their main opponent is the NDA alliance consisting of the BJP, JD (U) and LJP. In the 2014 general elections for the Lok Sabha, the RJD-Congress-NC alliance secured only 6 seats out of 40. The BJP-led NDA scored 31 out of 40 Lok Sabha seats leaving Lalu’s RJD with 4 seats, the JD (U) with 2 seats and NCP with just 1 seat. The Lok Sabha 2019 election will be a crucial phase in the history of Bihar politics and especially for the RJD since Lalu Prasad Yadav is now promoting his son Tejaswi Yadav. Lalu Yadav is now to wait and see for the result if the generational shift he has attempted this time will work with the voters or not. Lalu’s family witnessed some rebellions during 2019 Lok Sabha elections within his own family. Lalu’s elder son Tej Pratap seems to have conveyed his displeasure with the selection of candidates by his younger brother Tejaswi Yadav. In the Pataliputra constituency, Lalu Prasad’s eldest daughter Misa Bharati is contesting. She has been pitted against the BJP candidate Ram Kripal Yadav. Just before the elections 2014 for the Lok Sabha, Ram Kripal shifted loyalties and decided to face the elections on a BJP ticket. Ultimately he defeated Misa Bharati who fought for the RJD. Pataliputra constituency is now waiting to see if the results will suggest a close contest this time also.

RJD Lok Sabha Election Results 2019: Early trends suggest RJD losing in Bihar

Voting in 94 of the total 243 Assembly seats in Bihar will be held on November 3 during the second phase of state elections in which over 2.85 crore voters will decide the fate of 1,463 candidates in fray. As many as 41,362 polling stations have been set up across 17 districts, all of which except Patna, Bhagalpur, and Nalanda are situated north of the Ganges. Maharajganj seat has a maximum of 27 candidates in the electoral battle and Daraula with only four in the second round of Assembly polls. Prominent contestants in the fray include Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and Grand Alliance's chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav who is recontesting the Raghopur seat and his brother Tej Pratap in the fray in Hassanpur seat in Samastipur district. Other prominent faces in the fray in the second phase are RJD leaders Alok Kumar Mehta from Ujiyarpur and Shailesh Kumar from Bihpur, former parliamentarian Anand Mohan's son Chetan Anand from Sheohar, former parliamentarian Rama Singh's wife Beena Singh from Mahnar, and Congress leader Shatrughan Sinha's son Luv from Bankipur. Plurals Party leader Pushpam Priya Choudhary is also in the fray in Bankipur, apart from BJP's Nitin Naveen. Ministers Nandkishore Yadav, Randhir Singh, and Shravan Kumar are also in the fray from Patna Sahib, Madhuban and Nalanda segments. The prestige of 27 MLAs of the Grand Alliance is at stake. The RJD has fielded 56 candidates in the second phase of elections, wherein it is in direct contest with the BJP on 27 seats and with the ally turned foe JD-U on 25 seats. The BJP is contesting 46 seats and the JD-U 43 seats. The Congress is contesting 24 seats, CPI and CPM four each, Lok Janshakti Party 52 and RLSP 36 seats. In the 2015 elections, the Rashtriya Janata Dal of Lalu Prasad had bagged 33 of these seats, the JD-U 30 and the Congress seven whereas the NDA had won only 22 seats. However, a lot of water has since flown down the rivers ever since. New political permutations and combinations have come into play in 2020 as compared with the 2015 polls. Five years ago, Nitish Kumar's JD-U fought the elections in alliance with the RJD and the Congress, whereas the NDA had Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party and Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) in its camp. In this poll fray, the JD-U has moved to the NDA camp, the LJP is fighting its own battle and the RLSP is a part of the Grand Democratic Secular Front. Elections for the 243-seat Bihar Assembly are set to be held in three phases, out of which polling in the first phase was conducted on October 28. After the November 3 voting for 94 seats, remaining 78 constituencies will go to polls on November 7. The counting of votes is slated for November 10.

And they seem to have picked Singh's saffron over Kumar's red. As of 9:50 am, Giriraj Singh was ahead with 51% of the votes counted while Kanhaiya Kumar had half the number of votes as his rival from BJP. In the third spot is Tanveer Hasan of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which is in alliance with the Congress in the state of Bihar. The voter turnout this time was at 61.27% that is 2% more than five years ago when the BJP candidate Bhola Singh bagged the seat with a margin of 58,000 votes. Kanhaiya Kumar shot to national fame when the cops in Delhi arrested him and his friends from the Jawaharlal Nehru University for alleged anti-national activities in 2016. Since then, he has used the media spotlight on him to challenge BJP’s politics and policies, and target Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his rhetoric. Aside from a long list of stars from the showbiz -- poet Javed Akhtar, actors Shabana Aazmi, Prakash Raj and Swara Bhaskara as well as comedian Kunal Kamra campaigned for him -- Kanhaiya Kumar has the support of a big chunk of people, nearly 450,000, in the district who belong to the same caste as him, Bhumihar. He has also been wooing votes of the Muslims, who make for 17% of the district’s population. However, it has to be said that in the particular case of Begusarai, both RJD and CPI(M) resonate among Muslim voters, people from the Yadav community, as well as those from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes of the region. Further, Kumar and Hasan are pitted against a veteran politician and a minister in the central government, Giriraj Singh, who is riding on Modi’s charm much like many other BJP candidates across the country. Any division of votes between Kumar and Hasan may provide an advantage to the BJP. On the other hand, a victory for Kumar may earn him the credibility of a serious politician and a long career. BJP's Giriraj Singh has over twice the number of votes as debutante Kanhaiya Kumar, so far

Lalu Prasad on Sunday evening fell from the stairs at his home and suffered a fracture in his right shoulder. The family doctors had applied a temporary plaster on his shoulder. Sources said that he complained of uneasiness and breathing problems around 4 a.m. <keyword id="6354578" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tejashwi-yadav" source="Orion">Tejashwi Yadav</keyword>, the younger son of Lalu Prasad immediately took him to the nearby Paras hospital and admitted him. He is currently in the <keyword id="57843" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="intensive-care-unit" source="Orion">Intensive Care Unit</keyword> (ICU), and also underwent an MRI. Lalu Prasad is convicted in the fodder scam and is currently on bail after completing more than half of the prison sentence. The 75-year-old veteran socialist leader wants to go to Singapore to consult doctors for his kidney transplant. Recently, the court released his passport as well. Lalu Prasad hospitalized again after a fall from the stairs

Congress protest enters third day, Rahul Gandhi says opposition’s voice is being suppressed

"Inspite of our repeated pleas, Modiji hasn't retracted his derogatory remarks on our DNA. We're going to launch a ' shabd wapasi' campaign against him," tweeted Kumar. 
 
The chief minister added that 50 lakh people from Bihar would be a part of 'shabdwapasi' signature campaign and would be sending DNA sample test to Modi. 
 
While addressing a rally in Muzaffarpur on July 25, Modi remembered the way Kumar had invited him to dinner and later cancelled the invitation. 
 
Modi said that Kumar had not only disrespected him but also a 'mahadalit' like former Chief Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=jitan+ram+manjhi">Jitan Ram Manjhi</a>. 
 
"There seems to be some problem in his DNA because the DNA of democracy is not like that. In democracy you respect even your political rivals," Modi had said at the rally. 
 
Earlier, Kumar had written an open letter to Modi over the issue.

Sudhakar Singh got the RJD ticket from the Buxar Lok Sabha seat, while Ali Asharaf Fatmi will contest from Madhubani and Surendra Prasad from Jehanabad. Other <keyword id="20596421" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RJD-candidates" source="keywords">RJD candidates</keyword> include Kumar Sarvjeet (Gaya), Shrawan Kumar Kushwaha (Nawada), Bima Bharti (Purnea) and Archana Ravidass (Jamui). All the four have already filed their nominations. The party also nominated Jai Prakash Yadava from Banka, Lalit Yadav from Darbhanga and Chandrahas Chaupal from Supaul. Alok Kumar Mehta will contest on an RJD ticket from Ujiyarpur, Arjun Ai from Sitamarhi, Deepak Yadav from Valmikinagar, Ritu Jaiswal from Seohar and Kumar Chandradeep from Madhepura. The Lok Sabha elections to 40 seats in Bihar will be held in seven phases between April 19 and June 1.

The Rajya Sabha on Friday passed two Bills -- the Indian Medicine Central Council (Amendment) Bill, 2020 and Homoeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Bill, 2020. Replying during the discussion on the Bills, <keyword id="2468968" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Health-Minister-Harsh-Vardhan">Health Minister Harsh Vardhan</keyword> said, "The Ordinance was necessitated as Parliament was not in session." The Minister said that Yoga and Naturopathy will also be promoted in due course, as demanded by <keyword id="123786" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rashtriya-Janata-Dal">Rashtriya Janata Dal</keyword> (RJD) MP Manoj Jha. During the discussion, Biju <keyword id="123462" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Janata-Dal">Janata Dal</keyword> (BJD) MP Prasanna Acharya supported the Bill, but questioned the need for the ordinance. He said only in extraordinary situations the ordinance route should be adopted. Speaking on the Bill, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said that new things are always opposed first, but during covid times homeopathy medicine was prescribed as an immunity booster. Samajwadi Party (SP) member Ram Gopal Yadav asked the government not to delay the constitution of the commission as homoeopathy is a necessity for the poor as allopathy is costly and in covid times private hospitals are charging more than Rs one lakh per day. The DMK MP T. Siva said, "The government is taking away the powers of the states", and alleged that its diluting the federalism. The Bill brought by the Centre amends <keyword id="9958977" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-homoeopathy-central-council-act">the Homoeopathy Central Council Act</keyword>, 1973. After becoming an Act, the Central Council of Homoeopathy will regulate homeopathic education and practice. The Bill replaces the Homoeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 which was promulgated on April 24, 2020. The period for the supersession of the Central Council -- The 1973 Act -- was amended in 2018 to provide for the supersession of the Central Council of Homoeopathy. The Central Council was required to be reconstituted within one year from the date of its supersession. This period was amended in 2019 to require the reconstitution of the Central Council in two years. The central government constituted a Board of Governors to exercise the powers of the Central Council. The Bill amends the Act to increase the period for the supersession of the Central Council from two years to three years. The resolution moved by K. C. Venugopal, E. Kareem and K. K.Ragesh was defeated. But Ragesh raised a point of order for the right to reply as the mover of the resolution and asked about the role of the state governments in this Bill.
