Singapore-based investment firm <keyword id="6367519" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="temasek" source="Orion">Temasek</keyword> will acquire an additional 41 per cent stake in <keyword id="533812" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="manipal-health-enterprises" source="Orion">Manipal Health Enterprises</keyword>, to take majority control of the Bengaluru-based firm, as per a joint statement issued by the entities on Monday. The companies did not share financial details of the deal. Sources, however, said Temasek stake buyout would be for over Rs 16,300 crore valuing Manipal Health Enterprises (MHE) at around Rs 40,000 crore, making it the largest deal in the Indian healthcare sector. Following the closing of the transaction, <keyword id="6379586" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="manipal-group" source="Orion">Manipal Group</keyword> will hold about 30 per cent in Manipal Health Enterprises. Sheares Healthcare Group, a wholly-owned subsidiary and independently-managed portfolio company of Temasek, will retain its existing 18 per cent stake, it said. Besides, global alternative asset management firm <keyword id="6367884" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tpg" source="Orion">TPG</keyword>, which first invested in MHE through TPG Asia VI in 2015, will fully exit. But, TPG will hold an interest of 11 per cent in the healthcare chain, through its new Asia fund - TPG Asia VIII, it added. National Investment &amp; Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) will exit its holding from MHE, the statement said. "We are very glad for Temasek's acquisition of a significant stake in Manipal Health Enterprises and its support to the management team in building out the platform to its full potential," Manipal Group Chairman <keyword id="354291" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ranjan-pai" source="Orion">Ranjan Pai</keyword> said in a statement. <ul><li><keyword id="6888422" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sebamed" source="Orion">Sebamed</keyword>'s comparative advertising last year against <keyword id="44863" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hul" source="Orion">HUL</keyword> soap brands including <keyword id="119472" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lux" source="Orion">Lux</keyword>, Pears and <keyword id="94301" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dove" source="Orion">Dove</keyword> got it noticed by consumers.</li><li>We speak to <keyword id="17535" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shashi-ranjan" source="Orion">Shashi Ranjan</keyword>, Country Head, Sebamed to understand how its strategy of targeting other brands in the category has worked for it.</li><li> Ranjan tells us the brand's campaigns have helped it win the trust of huge number of consumers who are looking for 'highly efficacious and scientifically superior products'.</li></ul>When it aired its campaign targeting some of HUL’s market leading soap brands including Lux, Pears and Dove in January 2021, German personal care brand Sebamed made quite a splash. It had taken on the biggest soap manufacturer in the country, to demonstrate the ‘superior benefit of Sebamed’s cleansing bar over market leaders in the soap category’, a claim that had later been rebutted by HUL. Following the launch of the campaigns, HUL had filed a commercial suit in the Bombay High Court, and alleged that Sebamed’s campaigns were ‘misleading consumers on soap efficacy during these difficult times, and further denigrating and disparaging well-known brands like Lux, Dove, Pears and Rin’. The Bombay High Court later permitted Sebamed to continue with its campaign for its cleansing bar. Despite the legal backlash, the brand and its comparative advertising was written about by numerous media outlets, which turned out to be great PR for the brand. It had the desired effect, getting a relatively new brand noticed by consumers. Later in the year, Sebamed released another campaign, this time drawing consumers’ attention towards misleading advertising by various hair care brands titled #NoConditionsApply. A year since the launch of its talked-about campaign, we caught up with Shashi Ranjan, Country Head, Sebamed, to understand how its strategy worked for the brand and how it has been educating consumers about the benefits of using its products and building a market for itself. Excerpts: Q) Sebamed has had a very different advertising approach. How do you think that has helped in its brand building in India? We are a purpose-driven organization, and we strive to transform the Indian <keyword id="34523" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fmcg" source="Orion">FMCG</keyword> landscape. By leveraging the power of honest and transparent advertising, we are empowering consumers with the right knowledge backed by scientifically verifiable facts and realistic claims. We want consumers to make informed choices about their consumption habits and our advertisements narrate the story in a unique and palatable way. Our differentiated approach to advertising has introduced a new vocabulary of pH and generated a buzz in the personal care category. It has nudged consumers to challenge the status quo and question claims around standard beauty practices and provide them with science-backed facts instead, and as a result, build a strong connection with Sebamed. We have been able to win the trust of huge number of consumers who are looking for highly efficacious and scientifically superior products. Q) What sort of reception have your ads received? They did the work of getting the brand noticed but did that translate to sales? We are overwhelmed by consumer responses after every campaign. It really gives a surreal feeling that consumers wait for our advertisements as every category we get into we impart new knowledge and most importantly something they can trust and validate. In addition to disruptive awareness, our advertisements have resulted into exponential increase in our revenue as well. Our annualized portfolio run rate is Rs 600 crore in MRP terms. We remain committed towards investing in brand building as a full-stack player. We continue to strive for share of affinity of our consumers and it has been overwhelming since inception. Q) What sort of growth have you witnessed since you launched your campaign? We are on an exponential growth path and have grown 5X in the last 3 years. In fact, some of the subcategories in personal care have grown more than 10X post the campaign. Q) How did the pandemic impact the business? Where do you stand now? Like any other FMCG player we were also impacted by the first wave of pandemic during Apr-June’20 quarter. However, we have managed to bounce back and are now on our growth trajectory. We witnessed ~40% growth on our overall portfolio vis-à-vis 2019 despite the pandemic. We used this as an opportunity to realign our Marketing, Sales, Distribution &amp; People strategy.We managed to bounce back after a quarter and are now back on our growth trajectory.Hence, the silver lining is, despite pandemic our exponential growth journey continues.Our offline sales have grown around 50% over last year itself. Q) For any relatively new brand, sampling plays an important role. With people stuck in their homes, how have you been able to take the brand to people's homes? How are you ensuring the brand stays top-of-mind for your consumers? Sampling has been a key enabler to induce trial for consumers across all categories and we have leveraged this since the beginning. During pandemic when people were stuck at home, we partnered with hyper local delivery partners as well as some society activation partners to take the experience to consumers’ home. Further recently we have also launched Sebamed shampoo sachet at Rs 10 to encourage trials. Today all Sebamed shampoos – Anti Hairloss, Anti-Dandruff and Everyday are available at Rs 10. We have also started seeing early trends on increasing revenue contribution of Tier II and Tier III cities for Sebamed products. Q) How important has e-commerce been for you? The world-wide pandemic has turbocharged ecommerce transition for FMCG companies. With the touchless economy and safety conscious consumers, we have witnessed a strong preference towards ecommerce during the pandemic and it’s going to continue in the long run as well. Ecommerce has been a key growth driver for us, and we have further enhanced our presence by partnering with quick commerce players as well in addition to traditional ecommerce players. In fact, we have taken an emphatic approach to set up our own ecommerce platform mywellnesskart.com during the first wave of the pandemic to ensure our products are made available to consumers amid logistic disruptions. Q) What's your marketing budget for the year? Will you be increasing spends this year? Which medium will get the largest chunk of the marketing pie? Our marketing budget is commensurate with our growth aspirations. We have grown our marketing budget by 3X over last 3 years. We remain committed towards investment in brand building as a full stack FMCG player and strive for consumer’s share of affinity towards our brands. Our current split between traditional and digital marketing is 50:50 and we will continuously evaluate the same and pivot it around consumer’s behavioral shift. Q) Going ahead too, will the brand continue focusing on competitive advertising or do you plan to modify your strategy? We invest a lot in understanding our consumers. Keeping the evolving consumer needs in mind, our advertising approach has been focused on building long-term trust with the consumers – there is no short-cut to gaining trust. This requires consistent effort. Competitive advertisement is just one tool in the marketing playbook. Every category has different objective and advertisement strategy would differ accordingly; however our brand purpose will remain consistent as the common denominator across every segment we operate. Q) Sebamed has positioned itself as a brand that empowers consumers with the right information on the basis of scientifically verifiable facts and realistic claims. Apart from your campaigns, how else are you educating consumers, since it takes a change in behaviour for people to opt for a new shampoo/soap instead of products they have been using for years? After the pandemic, basic health and hygiene choices are being re-evaluated. We strive to educate our consumers about the benefits of pH5.5 products for healthy skin and hair and impact of using conventional products. pH is a relatively new conversation in the personal care segment, and we are aware that persuading consumers to opt for a new shampoo/soap instead of products they are using for years is a journey. In order to expedite the transition process, in addition to integrated campaigns we are following a 3-pronged approach: -Offering free pH test kits to consumers, so they can test themselves at their homes -Offering free customized skin and hair solutions by our experts through our portal -Sampling and society activation initiatives Q) What is your strategy towards increasing your marketing spend? What is the growth strategy you are going to follow? -Brand building is a journey and we are committed to ramp up our marketing investments in alignment with our aspirations. -We will continue to focus on five key transformational pillars – people, differentiated products, branding, rapid distribution expansion and robust governance. Q) What kind of revenue target do you have for 2022? Four <keyword id="6354354" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="crpf" source="Orion">CRPF</keyword> personnel were killed and three others injured after their colleague opened fire at them in a camp of the paramilitary force in <keyword id="43945" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chhattisgarh" source="Orion">Chhattisgarh</keyword>'s <keyword id="6363596" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sukma" source="Orion">Sukma</keyword> district on Monday, a police official said. The incident took place at around 3.15 am in the camp of the Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) 50th battalion in Linganpalli village under Maraiguda police station of the area of the district, located nearly 400 km from the state capital Raipur, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P said. As per preliminary information, constable <keyword id="12486778" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reetesh-ranjan" source="Orion">Reetesh Ranjan</keyword> fired at his colleagues with his service weapon, an AK-47 rifle, the official said. The seven injured personnel were immediately shifted to a hospital in nearby Bhadrachalam area of neighbouring Telangana, where doctors declared four of them dead on arrival, the official said. Those killed were identified as constables <keyword id="12486777" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajmani-kumar-yadav" source="Orion">Rajmani Kumar Yadav</keyword>, <keyword id="12486526" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajib-mondal" source="Orion">Rajib Mondal</keyword>, Dhanji and <keyword id="183281" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dharmendra-kumar" source="Orion">Dharmendra Kumar</keyword>, he said, adding that three other injured personnel were being treated at the hospital. "The motive behind the firing is yet to be ascertained and an investigation is on into the incident," the official said. In a similar incident of fratricide in January this year, a CRPF jawan was killed and another one injured after their colleague opened fire at them in their camp in the state's Bastar district, police earlier said. The offender had then tried to commit suicide by shooting himself, they said. To formulate Telangana's spacetech policy framework, the state government held a virtual consultation. It invited stakeholders like hardware start-ups, analytics start-ups and academia to share their insights during a virtual stakeholder consultation. Telangana government to formulate a space-tech policy framework

New Delhi, The <keyword id="6466153" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="congress-high-command">Congress high command</keyword> has given its nod for an <keyword id="6365866" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Alliance">alliance</keyword> with Left parties for <keyword id="10469457" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-west-bengal-assembly">the West Bengal Assembly</keyword> election next year. <keyword id="181147" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengal-Congress">Bengal Congress</keyword> President <keyword id="10489633" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="adhir-ranjan-chowdhry">Adhir Ranjan Chowdhry</keyword> said, "Today the Congress High command has formally approved the electoral alliance with the Left parties for the impending election in <keyword id="6357783" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="West-bengal">West Bengal</keyword>." In the last polls in 2016, the Congress fought in alliance with the Left parties and secured 44 seats to emerge as the second <keyword id="1285069" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="largest-party">largest party</keyword>. However, half of its MLAs have since joined the Trinamool. However, it is not clear how many seats the Congress will contest but party sources say Congress wants a fair share in the seat sharing agreement. Bengal Congress in-charge Jitin Prasada said talks on seat sharing will begin but the party will fight with full force to restore the pride of Bengal which is being "destroyed by the BJP and TMC". In Bengal, the Congress faces a formidable challenge from the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP, which is fast emerging as a force to reckon with in the poll-bound state. The 294-member Bengal Assembly will go to the polls next year. While the Trinamool Congress has the challenge to retain power, the Congress also has to retain its ground in the state. The Congress is also up against an upbeat BJP which has made inroads in the state after winning 18 Lok Sabha seats in the 2019 general election. The Congress was in a dilemma over whether to go with the Left or the Trinamool. But its state leaders have been talking to the Left informally and holding programmes in the state simultaneously. People have been indoors in India for close to 1.5 months now. It has had a huge impact on our economy, and on the way we conduct business. While it is still too early to predict what the post-Covid world will look like, there are constant conversations around the best ways and strategies organizations can employ to effectively navigate these unprecedented times and the uncertain future. While there have been many industries that have seen a complete shutdown, there are many that are optimistic about the future and are confident that they will bounce back once things start coming back to normal. We recently caught up with Shivam Ranjan, Head of Marketing, Motorola India who shared his optimism about the post-Covid world and also spoke about how meaningful and relevant messaging through digital media and CRM has helped the brand stay connected with its target audience during the lockdown. Edited excerpts: Q) Considering all retail outlets are shut and e-commerce is only delivering essentials, how challenging have the last few weeks been for you as a brand? These are unprecedented times and are challenging times for all brands and businesses alike. However, as a technology brand, we are still relevant as enablers of connectivity and are optimistic that consumer demand will bounce back in the long run for mobiles and technology products. Q) What has your <keyword id="489452" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="marketing-strategy">marketing strategy</keyword> been during the lockdown weeks? Have you changed your media mix, investing more on platforms like Digital since a few other mediums like OOH/Print have been suffering due to the lockdown? Our strategy is to stay genuine, relevant yet engaging during the lockdown. We have been doing this successfully by sharing information, technology tips and engaging on topics that are useful and entertaining. In terms of media, Digital and TV have clearly gained during the lockdown whereas Cinema, Radio, OOH and print are virtually non-existent. However, in the recent past, we have been a digital-heavy brand and hence for us, the media mix does not change significantly. Q) How have you been ensuring you stay connected with your target audience? Meaningful and relevant messaging through digital media and CRM has helped us stay connected with our target audience. Q) What have your key learnings from this experience been? Change is the biggest constant in this dynamic and unpredictable situation. It is extremely important for brands to be agile and responsive to the changing consumer behaviour and dynamic external factors. ROI will become more important than ever for marketers across brands and consumer behaviour as well as media consumption patterns will continue to evolve till external factors stabilize. I feel it is too early to give any concrete learnings at this stage since the situation is still evolving. Q) Do you foresee the future of retail seeing a sea change in the post-Covid world? Are you as a brand, ready to adapt to that change? In the post COVID-19 world, every business and industry will have to adapt, including retail. It will be important for retail to incorporate processes and norms that promote social distancing and hygiene thus evoking trust in consumers. As a brand, we are absolutely committed to the channel and will support them in every way to ensure a sustainable and mutually beneficial outcome. Q) Marketing during times like these could be tricky as a lot of times brands can be blamed of being opportunistic. How have you made sure that your marketing communications have stayed relevant and not come across as insensitive? Consumer sentiments are heightened as we deal with this unprecedented situation. In these times, it is extremely important for the marketing communication to be sensitive, meaningful and relevant. At the same time, communication from brands cannot be product-agnostic. It is important to find the right balance between them. Business continuity is important, not just for the brand, but also for consumers and overall economy to recover. We have simply tried to do a healthy mix of both promotional as well as helpful and relevant messaging to ensure that we come across as genuine yet responsible and empathetic.

Outgoing Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi on October 18 had recommended Justice Bobde, the second senior-most judge of the apex court, as his successor. Gogoi was the 46th Chief Justice of India who took charge on October 3, 2018. Born in Nagpur on April 24, 1956, Bobde completed his graduation and obtained a law degree from Nagpur University. He was enrolled on the roll of the Bar Council of Maharashtra in 1978 and was designated as Senior Advocate in 1998. His career as judge began on March 29, 2000 when he was appointed as Additional Judge in the Bombay High Court, and he rose to become Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court on October 16, 2012. He was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court on April 12, 2013. Justice Bobde was part of the five-judge constitution bench hearing the longest running Ayodhya land dispute case. He was part of the in-house panel which has handled the controversial case related to allegations of sexual harassment against Chief Justice Gogoi, and gave him a clean chit, saying "no substance" was found in the allegation levelled by a former employee.  It is bad enough that the Congress party had to suffer an embarrassing defeat after it's party president went on the ‘Chowkidaar Chor hai’ offensive on Prime Minister Modi. As if that is not enough, Rahul Gandhi also had to face a ‘criminal contempt’ proceedings over it. The Supreme Court bench has announced its verdict on a plea by BJP MP <keyword id="6431260" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Meenakshi-Lekhi">Meenakshi Lekhi</keyword> over the Congress party’s campaign slogan. Gandhi had made a statement attributing the slogan to the Apex court. Gandhi used the slogan to attack Modi over the Rafale deal. He was hoping to bring to light -- discrepancies on the deal to purchase fighter jets from the French company In March when the Supreme Court agreed to hear review petitions in the Rafale deal matter, Gandhi said that the top court also said "<keyword id="6895071" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chowkidar-chor-hai">chowkidar chor hai</keyword>". The Supreme Court took strong objection to this, asserting that it never said so. A bench comprising Chief Justice <keyword id="245445" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ranjan-Gogoi">Ranjan Gogoi</keyword> and Justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph had reserved judgement on the matter, on May 10 Gandhi, who was then the President of the Congress Party, had told the bench that he has tendered unconditional apology for wrongly attributing the remarks relating to the Prime Minister — to the apex court. Added to that, he also admitted that going on the offensive on corruption charges on the government was a wrong political move, soon after the election results came in.
