It’s a happy day in Bollywood. <keyword id="14519" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rani-Mukerji">Rani Mukerji</keyword> and beau <keyword id="6385240" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aditya-Chopra">Aditya Chopra</keyword>, who got married in Italy last year in April, have been blessed with a baby girl. 
 Both Mukerji and Chopra belong to prestigious film families; while Mukerji belongs to the vast Mukherjee-Samarth clan, Chopra is the elder son of filmmaker <keyword id="2238" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Yash-Chopra">Yash Chopra</keyword>. 
 
The news was first announced by Uday Chopra, the younger brother of Aditya, via Twitter.

In an official statement to the press, Rani Mukherji expressed her gratitude to her well-wishers. 
 
"I would like to thank all my well wishers and fans. Today life has given us God's greatest gift with Adira. We thank fans our friends and well wishers for their unconditional support and blessings. With joy we begin this new chapter in our lives," the statement read. 
 
Did you notice? Their daughter is called Adira, which clearly is a portmanteau of her parents’ names, Aditya and Rani. 
 
We can’t wait to see the pictures of the baby girl, who has art in her genes.

Salman Khan’s defence lawyers had pleaded for three years of imprisonment and had asked the court to consider Salman’s charity work through Being Human, under which he sponsored heart surgeries of 600 children. 
 
However, the Mumbai Sessions Court didn’t pay any heed. Now, it seems that the 49-year-old actor will have to knock at the doors of the High Court.

Salman Khan: Bollywood visibly heartbroken; fans hail the judiciary!

It has been another good weekend for the distributors as <keyword id="2230269" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Singham-Returns">Singham Returns</keyword> managed to pack in a good opening at the box office. 
 
As per <a href="http://www.koimoi.com/box-office/singham-returns-1st-sunday-day-3-box-office-collections/">Koimoi.com</a>, Singham Returns has netted Rs 32 crore on Friday, Rs 20-21 crore on Saturday and approximately Rs 26-27 crore on Sunday. The business of the movie has been exceptionally good on Friday (August 15) which was a national holiday. Singham Returns has been made with a budget of Rs 115 crore. It is expected that even on Monday, the movie will continue to garner good collections as a lot of offices are closed on the account of Janamashtmi. 
 
Singham Returns is a sequel to the 2011’s hit movie Singham. Just like the predecessor, it stars <keyword id="4230" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ajay-Devgan">Ajay Devgan</keyword> and is directed by <keyword id="22746" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="rohit-shetty">Rohit Shetty</keyword>. Apart from this, the movie also stars <keyword id="1377418" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Kareena-Kapoor-Khan">Kareena Kapoor Khan</keyword>. The trio had earlier worked in Golmaal 3. The movie is being produced by Reliance Entertainment. 
 
At this stage, it looks like Singham Returns might prove to be Ajay Devgan’s fastest run up to Rs 100 crore-club. The buzz for the next week release Mardaani starring <keyword id="1972" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rani-Mukherjee">Rani Mukherjee</keyword> is not very high, so there is a possibility that Singham Returns will continue to shine at the box office even in the coming week. We hope that the lifetime collections for Singham Returns including Cable and Satellite rights should be in the range of Rs 250 to 300 crore.

Yash Chopra's widow Pamela Yash Chopra passes away at 85

If not anything, Zoya Akthar’s musical <keyword id="12509997" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-archies" source="Orion">The Archies</keyword> has given a slogan for young people to come and vote in the upcoming general elections. Beyond that, there is little else in the movie that promises a lot with an unusual setting. The trailer had enthused Archie comic-loving GenX and older millennials. It also enthused GenZs with debuts of starkids like Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda and Khushi Kapoor. While people were promised a breezy watch which goes with the Christmas mood, it’s actually bland. An already predictable story-line is extended and made slower by the many songs. Songs are way too brooding and don’t have the 60s twist dance format. The movie misses the delicious vintage moments of the time and the sequence is closer to High School Musical choreography. Neither is the story heartwarming nor are the characters anything like their comic-book characters, without their typical goofiness. Not the real Archies A serious young man planning for college is not the Archie we know who is an awkward, always-broke young man who jalopy constantly breaks down. Reggie in the movie looks uncannily like Ranveer Singh and acts like him too. He is not chasing Midge and Ronnie and getting into trouble with Moose. In fact, he writes socially relevant articles, comforts Dilton who ‘is in love’ with him and more. Where is the mirror-gazing vanity? Jughead is way too insightful about the workings of girls, and Hotdog is too small. Also, why make Mr Lodge a villain? He is the smart businessman – the kind who plans to invest in spectacle-making businesses after he sees people always looking into their phones. Here, he is a man who paves a paradise-like park to put up a parking lot, ahem… hotel. <div type="image" title="archies" msid="105831558" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Source: IANS&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Missing the fashion-point The girls — Betty and Ronnie – are also far from their true nature. For one, the leggy Kapoor should have been Veronica and Khan should have been Betty. The comics brought in the ‘great girl divide’ — girl next-door versus the unattainable hot girl. The frenemy love triangle is also brushed away. It’s time to point out that Karan Johar has gotten this better in his movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The movie stars Khan’s father Shah Rukh Khan as the girl-chasing boy who falls for the hot, new girl Rani Mukherjee —ignoring his plain best-friend Kajol. The fashion game of Archies was also better captured by older film-makers when Archies was in vogue. It’s been said that Raj Kapoor had used Archie books to design Dimple Kapadia’s outfits in 70s classic, Bobby. He had gotten it better than Akhtar as neither Ronnie nor Betty wore anything that made them stand-out. The Anglo-Indian town The only thing palatable is the way the movie explains why an Indian town is named ‘Riverdale’ – and why everyone has Anglicized names. A Britisher fell in love with an Indian woman and married her and wanted a town for his people, the Anglo-Indians. The town was ‘bought’ by him from a prince, his friend. None of the younger generation look and feel like Anglo-Indians. They speak a lot more English making one wonder if it’s an English or a Hindi movie. It also artificially makes Fred Andrews use ‘hoyenga’ instead of ‘hoga’. All the youngsters speak Hindi with an accent, and sound like those who watched too much MTV and Channel V, which weren’t there in 1964 (that’s when radio ruled). Akktar had better precedents like the classic ‘Baton Baton Mein’ made by Basu Chatterjee. The Amol Palekar movie is a love story and introduces the concept of dating in the 70s which was a common practice in the Anglo-Indian community. The Archies has none of the charm of the many movies that have been stitched around the Archies and the Anglo-Indian theme. The movie could have been a good opportunity to introduce Archie comics back to GenZs who seem to love graphic novels. This movie will do nothing to take Archie and Jughead double digests off their half-off bins. Zoya Akhtar’s ‘The Archies’ turns out to be a damp squib and nothing like the breezy comic series

The movie is based on the rape of an underage girl by a self-styled godman. The victim in the movie is denied justice as bribes, threats and more make it tough for the teenager to get justice, until Bajpayee’s character Solanki enters the scene. The lawyer from Jodhpur fights off a battery of great legal minds to navigate a controversial case under the POSCO Act. "It is an eye opener that way and our focus is mostly on the security and safety and protection of the child, which is an issue which is very close to my heart - always been," Bajpayee said about the movie in an interview. Affable lawyers with twisted minds Solanki’s character, based on a real-life model, brings forth the struggles of the legal system in India. But it’s not the only one, especially on OTT. Yet another celebrated actor, Pankaj Tripathi plays Madhav Mishra, an affable-yet-brilliant lawyer from Mumbai who investigates his cases closely in Criminal Justice on Hotstar. The genius underdog also takes up controversial cases like defending a drug-addict teenager accused of murdering his sister, a woman who murdered her husband, and also a cab driver accused of rape and murder of his client —- across three seasons. Tripathi says that his character is based on aam aadmi, who mixes humour with common sense. “His behaviour, mannerisms, sense of timing and body language all make him easy to understand and relate to. Amazon Prime also brought Indian law firm politics to the fore, with Guilty Minds starring Shriya Pilgaonkar. Like most American series, it takes us through a variety of cases on dating apps to cola giants — navigated by lawyers with twisted agendas and sharp comebacks. Legal dramas keep it real While the US has many legal dramas to boast be it the super-hit Suits, Boston Legal or The Good Wife and its spinoff, Indian screens have been a late entrant into this genre in spite of a brilliant start in the 80s with Ek Ruka Hua Faisla. The movie starring Pankaj Kapoor brings the story of the now-abandoned jury system in India, as they discuss the depths of a case where a young teen from a slum stabs his father. Later, in addition to a few movies with courtroom scenes, few full fledged legal movies made their mark, with a few exceptions like Sunny Deol’s strongman cum lawyer in Damini. Arshad Warsi and Akshay Kumar both played the titular roles in Jolly LLB series — as not-so-clean lawyers who had their hearts at the right place. Kumar however headlined another movie Rustom which is based on the highly publicized K M Nanavati vs State of Maharashtra court case from the 50s. The case also inspired another web series named 'The Verdict – State vs Nanavati’ on AltBalaji. In fact, most legal dramas in India have mimicked real life like No One Killed Jessica, starring Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherjee. Tamil film Jai Bhim which stars Surya also mimics the real life activist and lawyer Justice K Chandru who had worked for the downtrodden.
