The pending editions of Joint <keyword id="6355248" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="entrance">Entrance</keyword> Examination (JEE)-Mains will be conducted from July 20 to 25 and July 27 to <keyword id="6415645" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="August">August</keyword> 2, Union Education Minister <keyword id="60487" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ramesh-Pokhriyal">Ramesh Pokhriyal</keyword> '<keyword id="913696" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nishank">Nishank</keyword>' announced on Tuesday. The results of the two editions, which were postponed in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, are likely to be announced in August. "The third edition of <keyword id="1115324" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="JEE-Mains">JEE-Mains</keyword> will be conducted from July 20-25 while the fourth edition will be held from July 27 to August 2. The exams will be conducted while following all Covid protocols keeping the safety of candidates in mind," Nishank said. JEE-Mains for admission to engineering colleges is being conducted four times a year from the current academic session to offer flexibility to students and a chance to improve their scores amidst the second wave of the pandemic in India. The first phase in February was followed by the second phase in March, while the next phases were scheduled for April and May. But those were postponed after a spike in the number of cases of coronavirus during the second wave of the pandemic. "The government has decided to extend the validity period of the Teachers Eligibility Test qualifying certificates from seven years to lifetime with a retrospective effect from 2011," the minister said in a statement. "The respective state governments and UTs will take necessary action to revalidate and issue fresh TET certificates to those candidates whose period of seven years has already lapsed," he added. Pokhriyal said this will be a positive step to boost employment opportunities for the candidates aspiring to make a career in the field of teaching. Possessing the TET qualifying certificate is one of the essential qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a school teacher. "Given the current #covid19 situation, I have advised @DG_NTA to postpone the JEE (Main) 2021 April Session. JEE Mains entrance exam postponed amid surge in COVID-19 cases

New Delhi, The JEE-Mains exam for admission to engineering colleges will be held four times a year starting 2021 to offer flexibility to students and a chance to improve their scores, <keyword id="5783061" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Education">Union Education</keyword> Minister <keyword id="106655" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ramesh-Pokhriyal-Nishank">Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank</keyword> announced on Wednesday. The first edition of the exam will be held from February 23 to 26, followed by rounds in March, April and May. "We have examined the suggestions received from students and various quarters and it has been decided that JEE-Mains will be held in four sessions in February, March, April and May," Nishank said. "The first session will be held from February 23-26 and the results will be declared within five days from the last date of exams," he said. "The move will ensure that students don't miss out on opportunities due to clash of exams or due to the COVID-19 situation at present," he added. Nishank also said students will be given a choice to answer 75 questions (25 each in <keyword id="55984" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="physics">Physics</keyword>, Chemistry and Mathematics) out of 90 (30 each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). Parliament on Tuesday passed a bill to declare five newly established Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) as institutions of national importance. The five new IIITs set up under the Public Private Partnership mode are in -- Surat, Bhopal, Bhagalpur, Agartala, and Raichur. The Indian Institutes of Information Technology Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020 has alreaby been passed by <keyword id="6355187" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> in the previous session on March 20, 2020. The bill was introduced in the upper house on Monday by Human Resource Development Minister <keyword id="106655" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ramesh-Pokhriyal-Nishank">Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank</keyword>. The education minister said that there are 25 IIITs in the country out of which 5 are purely run by the central government and 15 operate under public private partnership (PPP) mode. "We have brought the proposal before this House to bring five new operational institute which are located and have started operations in Surat (Gujarat), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Bhagalpur (Bihar), Agartala (Tripura) and Raichur (<keyword id="6354780" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka">Karnataka</keyword>) to bring under this act," Nishank said. He said bringing the five new institutes under IIITs Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020 will make them institute of national importance and they will have legal right to issue diploma, degree, PhD etc. These 5 IIITs along with 15 other IIITs, which are also built on public private partnership (PPP) mode will now be able to use the nomenclature of Bachelor of Technology (BTech) or Master of Technology (MTech) or PhD degree. It will also enable the institutes to attract enough students required to develop a strong research base in the country in the field of information technology. <keyword id="14666" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa thanked the prime minister and the education minister for including the institute in Agartala in the bill. BJD MP Dr Sasmit Patra supported the bill. "I support his bill on behalf of my pary Biju Janta Dal," Patra said. The bill amends the Indian Institutes of Information Technology Act, 2014 and the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Public-Private Partnership) Act, 2017. Currently, these institutes are registered as Societies under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and do not have the power to grant degrees or diplomas. On being declared institutions of national importance, the five institutes will be granted the power to grant degrees. The results of both class 10 and 12 will be declared at an interval of just a few days. Nishank said during a discussion "We hope that the results of both 10th and 12th class will be declared by August 15. These include the results of previous exams and the results of examinations in July." On the issue of reopening of schools, Nishank said "after August the process of opening schools will be started." A final decision in this regard will be taken only after assessing the prevailing conditions. According to the HRD ministry, after August, new sessions will also start in universities. Meanwhile, the <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> government in Delhi has also written to the HRD ministry on the subject of reopening schools. Delhi Education Minister <keyword id="6354681" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="manish-sisodia">Manish Sisodia</keyword> said in the letter, "Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said some time ago that we have to learn to live with coronavirus. So it would be better to open schools with proper safety measures." Sisodia said that first of all, we have to assure every child that they are important to us. Everyone has equal rights over the physical and intellectual environment of his school. Education cannot progress beyond online classes only. It would be impossible to pursue education only by calling older children to school and keeping younger children at home. Several private schools have also suggested measures to the HRD ministry to open schools and safety in schools during this period. However, the ministry is not in a hurry to reopen schools at present. According to senior officials of the ministry, at present, preparations are being made to conduct the remaining board exams of class 10 and 12 between July 1 and 15. After the examinations, the first priority is to declare the results. Only then can the process of reopening school colleges begin.
