<ul><li>Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is in hot waters yet again for making derogatory comments about women. And this time, it is about <keyword id="2848422" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="droupadi-murmu" source="Orion">Droupadi Murmu</keyword>, the BJP’s <keyword id="159173" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="presidential-candidate" source="Orion">presidential candidate</keyword>.</li><li>Varma has tweeted: "If Drapaudi is the President, who are the Pandavas? And more importantly, who are the Kauravas?"</li><li>This isn’t the first time that director Varma has gotten into trouble because of his big mouth.</li></ul>Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has been at it yet again. Only this time, his sexist and derogatory comments against Droupadi Murmu, the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) presidential candidate, have landed him in legal trouble. In a tweet on June 22, Varma had said, “If Draupadi is the President, who are the Pandavas? And more importantly, who are the Kauravas?” This is not the first time that the director has stirred trouble by making sexist remarks against women. From Aishwarya Rai to Sunny Leone, his comments have put him in the limelight. Two days after commenting on the Presidential candidate, he said, “This was said just in an earnest irony and not intended in any other way...Draupadi in Mahabharata is my favourite character but since the name is such a rarity I just remembered the associated characters and hence my expression. Not at all intended to hurt sentiments of anyone.” While Varma did try to save face with two subsequent tweets that said candidate Murmu is an ‘incredible icon,’ a Mumbai-based lawyer has filed a criminal defamation complaint against the director for his ‘offensive’ tweets. According to the lawsuit, Varma's tweets intended ‘to insult women's respect on social media and also amount to disrespect towards the scheduled caste (SC) community.’ Varma is no stranger to controversies, which are largely triggered by himself through his tweets. Varma kicked up a storm on Twitter in 2020 for his sexist comments about women buying liquor. Varma’s comments invited the wrath of singer Sona Mahapatra who said that the tweet ‘reeks of sexism’ and ‘misplaced morality.’ In 2019, on international women’s day, director and producer Varma <a href="https://twitter.com/RGVzoomin/status/839290164765732869">tweeted</a>, “Is there no Men’s Day because all days in the year belong to only men and the women were given just only one day. Women’s Day should be called Men’s Day because men celebrate women much more than women celebrate women.” “I don’t know what men should be doing to women that day but I wish one day in a year is celebrated as Men’s Women’s Day,” he added. Two years ago, again on international women’s day in 2017, Varma made a derogatory comment about film actor Sunny Leone. He said, “I wish all the women in the world give men as much happiness as Sunny Leone gives.” A <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/entertainment/bollywood-news/article/female-activist-files-police-complaint-against-ram-gopal-varma-over-sunny-leone-tweet-18059185">complaint </a>was later filed by a Goa-based activist under the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. In 2018, a case against Varma was <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/bollywood/god-sex-and-truth-ram-gopal-varma-booked-for-obscenity-a-day-before-the-film-s-release/story-OIdtKpCwlWjlhX71C1Z0PJ.html">registered </a>under section 67 of the Information Technology Act for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form. Another actor at the receiving end of his sexist and derogatory <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/hindi/bollywood/news/i-hate-beautiful-women-getting-pregnant-ram-gopal-varma/articleshow/8973301.cms">comments </a>was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 2011. When the actor announced her pregnancy, Varma tweeted, “I worship beautiful women and I hate to see them ever become mothers. In case of Aishwarya, since she’s the most beautiful, I hate it even more!”

But this (Padma Shri) was the best of all because this encapsulated my entire body of work. She will be seen in Arbaaz Khan-backed social drama "Patna Shukla", a romantic-comedy "Gudchadhi" with Sanjay Dutt and a show with Disney+ Hotstar. "'Gudchadhi' is a sweet romantic-comedy, 'Patna Shuka', which is topical and relevant to the problems that we face in our society. Then I have a show that I am doing for Hotstar, which is a thriller, on 'Aranyak', I think the writing work is going on and soon we will be looking forward to KGF 3," Raveena said. "He suffered a major heart attack in the morning. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead. He didn't have any health issues but felt chest pain last night," Nishant said. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta, who worked with Parvez in the National Award winning 2013 drama "Shahid", said the action director was extremely skilful with his work. "Just heard that action director Parvez Khan is no more. We had worked together in Shahid where he executed the riots sequence in a single take. Very skilful, energetic and a good man. RIP Parvez. Your voice still rings in my ears," Hansal tweeted. Parvez started his career by assisting action director Akbar Bakshi in films like Akshay Kumar's "Khiladi" (1992), Shah Rukh Khan's "Baazigar" (1993) and Bobby Deol-starrer "Soldier" in 1998. It was with Ram Gopal Varma's "Ab Tak Chhappan" in 2004 that he started working independently and went on to have a long-standing collaboration with filmmaker Sriram Raghavan in films like "Johnny Gaddaar" (2007), Saif Ali Khan-starrer "Agent Vinod" in 2012 and "Badlapur", featuring Varun Dhawan. 1. Mahal (1949)

The basic plot of the film goes like this – 10 strangers stranded on an island get killed one by one. The film has everything that’s synonymous with edge-of-the-seat experience – suspense, thrill, fear, perfect characterisation and of course, a haunting song, Gumnaam hai koi. 
 
4. Jaani Dushman (1979) 
The story of Jaani Dushman is based in a village, which is notorious for the mysterious killings of brides dressed in red. The bidaai song Chalo re doli uthao kahaar is an indication that another bride is going to be attacked by a mysterious monster. The creature can’t be killed as every time someone tries to kill it, it leaves its own body and possesses the body of the person who tries to kill it. The multi-starrer film was a box-office hit. 
 
5. 100 Days (1991) 
More than a horror film, 100 Days is a spine-chilling entertainer starring <keyword id="6355846" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Madhuri-Dixit">Madhuri Dixit</keyword>, <keyword id="297" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Jackie-Shroff">Jackie Shroff</keyword> and <keyword id="675553" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Jaaved-Jaffery">Jaaved Jaffery</keyword>. 7. Vaastu Shastra (2004) 
A family including a couple and their son, as well as the wife’s sister, shifts to a new house. Just when they begin to live happily, the boy starts interacting with kids whom no one else can see. Initially, the parents dismiss it as child’s fancy but as things start to take a gory turn, they begin to take notice. But unfortunately, it’s too late by then. 
 
8. 1920 (2008) 
Haunted houses are hot favourites of those who love the horror genre and 1920 is a period film that portrays a haunted haveli (castle). A married couple comes to live in the haveli and experiences mysterious happenings, which are out of human control. If you believe in God and His power to save one from evil spirits, you will enjoy this film. 
 
9. 13 B Although this movie is marred by poor direction, the plot makes it a must-watch. The protagonist, R. <keyword id="4759" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Madhavan">Madhavan</keyword>, shifts to a new house 13-B but under a mysterious scheme of things, his life gets connected to a TV serial. Whatever happens in the TV serial, also happens with his family in real life. What’s more, that serial only comes on their TV. The film hooks you from the first frame till the last. 
 
10. Ragini MMS (2011) 
The movie has been partially inspired by the 2007 Hollywood horror flick, Paranormal Activity. It also takes cues from the real life incident of a Delhi-based girl called Deepika. She reportedly fell prey to a spirit’s wrath at a haunted house where her boyfriend took her and tried to make an MMS without her knowledge. The film was produced by <keyword id="378" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Jeetendra">Jeetendra</keyword> and <keyword id="154993" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Shobha-Kapoor">Shobha Kapoor</keyword> of Balaji Telefilms.
