New Delhi, June 19 () Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday held discussions with the senior representatives of realtors' body NAREDCO regarding problems faced by the real estate industry during the current coronavirus pandemic. Maharashtra's former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also present in the closed-door meeting held through video conferencing. "Smt @nsitharaman interacts with the senior members of the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) via video conference. Shri @Dev_Fadnavis, Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra also joins the interaction," according to a tweet put out by the finance minister's office. Sources said that the association sought relief from the government to tide over this crisis. NAREDCO members demanded one-time debt restructuring for the industry, last-mile funding for the stuck projects and lowering of interest rates on home loans to boost housing demand. COVID-19: FM interacts with NAREDCO members to assess realty market situation

Mumbai, Mar 4 () Pumps and industrial valves maker KSB Ltd India has bagged an order worth Rs 100 crore for the supply of slurry re-circulation pumps to be installed across 10 NTPC sites in the country. The deliveries of the pumps begin from this month and they will be installed in FGD units at power plants, which will have a total generation capacity of 166GW in the coming years, KSB Ltd India Managing Director Rajeev Jain said. The Flue Gas Desulphurisation(FGD) unit is used to lower emissions of gases known to cause lung diseases. Power plants were asked to install FGD units, which cut emissions of sulphur dioxides, in a phased manner. In all 440 coal-fired plants that produce 166.5 GW have to comply with the regulation by December 2020. "The countries all over the world have already installed FGD plants and in India it has come a bit late. Now due to the Supreme Court directive that all these thermal power plants have to install the FGD units before December 2022, every body (in the industry) have to gear up within this short period of three years," Jain said. National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is the main-end user who are going to use these pumps, for which the company has received order worth Rs 100 crore, he said. "Though the process is relatively new, the implementation of industrial pollution norms has been gaining momentum in India in the last few years. We have managed to bag orders for slurry re-circulation pumps for a large number of power plants in a short span of time," Jain added. KSB foresees a huge surge for slurry re-circulation pumps for FGD systems in India up to 2022 considering the government's support for stringent industrial emission norms, he said, adding "we are quite upbeat about this new business in the country." "To meet the Indian market demand, we have developed the entire supply chain for these pumps locally. The scope includes supply of slurry re-circulation pumps with drive units, performance testing and providing erection and commissioning support to customers," Jain said. Globally KSB has been a supplier of German technology pumps for FGD applications since 1977, he said. KSB Ltd India is the Indian arm of KSB. Jain, who is also the Regional Executive Officer for West Asia at the Germany-headquarterd KSB Ltd, said that the company has been manufacturing these slurry re-circulation pumps locally for FGD applications after obtaining licence from its parent company KSB Ltd. "FGD units are comparatively new to India and KSB Limited has continued its tradition of indigenising highly-specialised products by adding the Slurry Re-circulation Pumps required for FGD units in its portfolio for local manufacturing," Jain said. The Pune-based KSB Ltd India, which has been in the manufacturing of pumps since 1960, has six production facilities in the country. The decision to ban sale and use of crackers was taken in a meeting chaired by <keyword id="1996659" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-chief-minister-Arvind-Kejriwal">Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal</keyword>. With the ban, the cracker traders are likely to suffer huge loss, thus impacting their livelihood. Kejriwal has even made an appeal to people of Deli not to burn any crackers during Diwali in the wake of increasing pollution levels and rapid rise in the coronavirus cases. Deepak, a cracker trader from Trilokpuri, told IANS, "I have a permanent licence and this time I had purchased green crackers of worth Rs 3 lakh. Now, we can sell them onl after November 30. As per the Explosive Rules, 2008, the government should take a final decision on either abolishing it or let it remain unchanged. Every year, just a few days before Diwali, a decision is made against bursting crackers due to which we suffer huge financial losses." Delhi Fireworks Traders Association (DFTA) member Rajeev Jain said, "The trial over banning firecrackers has been on for the last five years. While green crackers were promoted so as to curb pollution due to bursting of crackers but there is not clear definition of green crackers. Last year, sale and use of crackers such as 'anar' (fountain crackers) and 'phuljhadi' (sparklers) was allowed by the Supreme Court which helped us in mitigating some loss." He said, "The decision of the government just ahead of Diwali has aggravated the problems for the whole fireworks industry. The state government should have informed us in 2019 itself that crackers won't be allowed so neither crackers would have been manufactured nor traders would have purchased them?" "The pollution level has gone up despite no crackers been burnt till now. So, it clearly shows that there are other major reasons behind increasing pollution. Rather than imposing ban every year, the government should give more clarity on Explosive Rules, 2008," he added. Fireworks trader Amit Jain, who runs a shop near Jama Masjid, said, "Last year, the Supreme Court permitted the sale and purchase of green crackers. The Delhi government has overturned the apex court's decision and is acting like it is above the judiciary. The cracker traders are suffering heavy losses. Temporary licences were distributed to the traders after which they bought the stock and now they can't sell it." However, the ban on crackers has turned into a political slugfest too. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Goel is now demanding for compensation for the cracker traders. He also held protest against the Kejriwal government in the cracker market near Jama Masjid. During the protest, he said the state government just trying to hide its failures by such measures. Criticising the AAP government, <keyword id="648384" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Pradesh-Congress-Committee">Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee</keyword> (DPCC) President Anil Kumar said, "It is surprising that barely a week before Diwali, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has banned the sale and use of crackers causing huge monetary loss to the cracker traders. The traders who have recently purchased the stock of green crackers are crestfallen because of loss of business. The Chief Minister is simply not concerned about their plight." According to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), cracker industry in India employs nearly 10 lakh people and more than 80 per cent of crackers are made in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. There are nearly 1,100 cracker-manufacturing industries operating there. The overall production of firecrackers in India is estimated at nearly Rs 5,000 crore. Delhi firecrackers traders urge government to clarify policy over crackers ban

Chandigarh, Dec 4 () Leading corporate honchos of the country, including Sunil Mittal, Uday Kotak, Sanjiv Puri, will attend the two-day Progressive Punjab Investors Summit, starting on Thursday.
 The event, which is being organised by the Punjab government, will see participation from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), leading industrialists, new-age entrepreneurs, foreign missions and other dignitaries.
 An interactive session with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Thursday will be the highlight of the investors' summit, with a focus on putting the state's MSME sector on the centre stage of the global value chain, the state government said in a release on Wednesday.
 The chief minister's session on 'Blueprint for accelerating growth' will have East India Hotels Executive Chairman P R S Oberoi, Kotak Mahindra Bank Executive Vice Chairman &amp; MD Uday Kotak, ITC Chairman Sanjiv Puri, Hinduja Group Europe Chairman Prakash Hinduja, Hero Enterprise Chairman Sunil Kant Munjal and Vardhman Textiles Vice Chairman &amp; Joint Managing Director Suchita Jain as participants, it said.
 Satoshi Suzuki, Ambassador of Japan to India, will deliver his keynote address and will also set the tone of the two panel discussions, the release said.

'Make in India' will get a push with the government's latest move to impose a 10 per cent basic customs duty on mobile phones imported into the country, according to <keyword id="6367495" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PTI">PTI</keyword> news report. The levy is also applicable on parts like chargers, headsets, battery and USB cable, with immediate effect. "The duty differential earlier was about 11.5 per cent in favour of local manufacturing. But with GST subsuming SAD and countervailing duties, that benefit was taken away. The 10 per cent customs duty will help push local manufacturing once again," Intex Chief Financial Officer and Director, Rajeev Jain told PTI. With this, status quo will be maintained (in favour of domestic manufacturing), he added. The announcement on the duty came in simultaneously with the midnight roll-out of Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the intervening night of June 30 and July 1. Many phone makers, who assemble their devices at facilities in the country, also import small quantities of phones from countries like China. "The (import) quantities, at least for us, is very small and therefore, the customs duty will not make much difference. For the end-customer, there is no impact as he/she pays 12 per cent GST for the handset," Jain explained. The government , however, has kept certain parts like printed circuit board assembly (PCBA), camera module, touch panel, cover glass assembly, vibrator motor and ringer, out of the levy of basic customs duty. Echoing a similar view, BMR Advisors Partner, <keyword id="3424677" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahesh-Jaising">Mahesh Jaising</keyword> said till yesterday, companies importing handsets were of the view they would have benefited under GST, given the manufacturing duty differential scheme going away. "Consequently, consumers were expecting (prices of) imported phones (typically the high end phones which are usually imported) to have come down. However, with the 10 per cent customs duty last night, the tax structure is again in favour of local manufacturing," he added. Incidentally, telephone bills of consumers will go up under GST regime, while prepaid customers are getting lesser talktime than before. This is because, under GST, telecom services are being taxed at 18 per cent compared to 15 per cent, earlier. Users are now getting talktime of about Rs 80 on a recharge of Rs 100, compared to about Rs 83 earlier. Similarly, costs for postpaid users will also go up to the extent of three percentage points, starting this month. So, for a monthly usage of Rs 1,000, users will have to pay Rs 1,180 instead of Rs 1,150 earlier. With the GST rolling out at midnight, some consumers faced issues getting recharges in early hours today. Some retailers complained of slow recharge processing initially but these issues seemed to be ironed out as the day progressed.

Local phone manufacturing to get a boost with 10% customs duty

<keyword id="111876" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bajaj-Finance">Bajaj Finance</keyword> has reported 20% jump in the net profit for the April-June quarter of FY2014-15, riding on an increase in deployments to consumers and small businesses. 
 
The company said there was 48% rise in deployments during the quarter at Rs 9,266 crore. The deployment growth was led mainly by the small and medium enterprises and consumer segments, which grew 54% and 48%, respectively. 
 
The company’s total income went up 34% to Rs 1,246 crore. 
 
The company’s chief executive Rajeev Jain said the gross non-performing assets ratio was by and large flat at 1.13%, while the net non-performing assets ratio improved slightly to 0.27%. 
 The company's scrip gained 0.09% to close at Rs 2,186.70 apiece on the <keyword id="35140" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BSE">BSE</keyword>, whose 30-share benchmark Sensex ended the session with gains of 1.27%.

 <keyword id="219589" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Special-CBI-Judge">Special CBI Judge</keyword> Bharat Parashar also asked the <keyword id="84586" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="CBI-director">CBI Director</keyword> to ensure that a uniform policy is laid down for seizure of passports of accused during the probe in the case. 
 
"It is clear that while a uniform policy which appears to have been adopted by CBI is that passports of all accused are seized by them whenever a case is registered, but in the present case a different policy was adopted for the reasons best known to them," the judge observed. 
 
During the hearing, senior public prosecutor V K Sharma told the court that it was decided in CBI's office that passport of Naveen Jindal will not be seized during the probe. 
 
The investigating officer told the court that a notice was issued to Jindal to submit his passport before the CBI but after taking some time he gave a coloured copy of his passport to the agency with a request that his passport be not seized. 
 
To this, the court said, "CBI Director is directed to ensure that a uniform policy is laid down to be followed in all cases in future so that precious time of this court is not wasted." 
 
During the hearing, the agency said that out of the 10 individual accused, charge sheeted in the case, passports of two accused-- Suresh Singhal and Rajeev Jain-- were seized. 
 Court has now fixed the matter for May 6 for considering the CBI charge sheet filed in the case yesterday against Jindal, former Minister of State for Coal Dasari Narayan Rao, formerJharkhand Chief Minister <keyword id="57155" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Madhu-Koda">Madhu Koda</keyword> and 12 others in connection with Amarkonda Murgadangal coal block allocation scam case. 
 Besides them, former Coal Secretary H C Gupta and five firms, including <keyword id="106159" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jindal-Steel">Jindal Steel</keyword> and Power Ltd and <keyword id="1725858" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jindal-Realty-Pvt-Ltd">Jindal Realty Pvt Ltd</keyword>, were also chargesheeted in the case for alleged offences under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) read with 420 (cheating) of IPC and under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
