Rishi Kapoor — the romance king of the 80's and Bollywood's beloved 'Chintu' — passes away at 67

<img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/589cd5bd6e09a835008b649d-1024/gettyimages-634301230.jpg" alt="Lyft driver car" /><p class="source"><span>Kelly Sullivan/Getty Images</span></p><p class="caption">Some day you may not see a human driver when you order a Lyft.</p>Lyft is starting to get serious about self-driving cars.<p>The app-based taxi service is forming a new autonomous vehicle division that will be based in a new center in Palo Alto, the company announced Thursday. </p><p>Lyft plans to open the center, dubbed "Level 5" after the term for fully autonomous driving, within the next few weeks. It plans to have several hundred people working in the facility by the end of 2018. The center will have room for vehicle bays, labs, and most importantly, representatives of Lyft's partners in the auto industry.</p><p>While some companies are going it alone in developing self-driving cars, Lyft thinks it's a much better idea to team up with other players in the auto and transportation industries and collaborate openly, said Raj Kapoor, Lyft's chief strategy officer, during a press conference Thursday at the company's San Francisco headquarters. Among Lyft's partners are Waymo, Google's self driving car division; General Motors; nuTonomy, a self-driving car startup out of MIT; and Jaguar Land Rover. Lyft officials also hinted that the company will announce another partnership in the near future. </p><p>During the event, Luc Vincent, Lyft's vice president of engineering, detailed the company's plans for its open self-driving car system. Lyft is working on something that resembles a 3D map that will show passengers their car's route, the road ahead, and what the car is seeing around it. The company is hoping the map will help passengers feel more comfortable in - and ceding control to - driverless cars. </p><p>To understand what's going on around them, autonomous vehicles will need a lot of data on scenarios they might encounter on the road. Taking advantage of its large network of drivers, Lyft is already deploying sensors on their cars to gather such data. But many companies in the industry are coming to the conclusion that working with partners is a lot more cost effective than what would be involved in going solo, Kapoor said. And going it alone with self-driving cars may well be impossible. </p><p>Lyft, in conjunction with nuTonomy, plans to have autonomous cars on the road in Boston by the end of this year. Company officials declined to say when, exactly, they will hit the roads or whether the cars will be available for hire by the public. </p><p>Even with this initial move, though, people shouldn't expect to see fleets of self-driving cars replacing people-driven ones overnight. At least in the near term, Lyft envisions a hybrid network that would be comprised of both people-driven cars and autonomous vehicles, said Taggart Matthiesen, Lyft's director of product. Lyft is determined to become a player in self-driving cars - and is opening its own autonomous vehicle center to show it

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/580922c6c52402b7248b5bf6-889/download.jpeg" alt="Raj Kapoor lyft" data-mce-source="Lyft" /><p class="source"><span>Lyft</span></p><p class="caption">Lyft's chief strategy officer  Raj Kappor, left, and Melissa Waters, vice president of marketing.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Lyft has hired its first strategy chief to help it wage its long-standing war with Uber. </p><p>The San Francisco-based ride-hailing company <a href="https://blog.lyft.com/posts/lyft-welcomes-raj-kapoor-and-melissa-waters" target="_blank">announced on Thursdsay</a> that it has hired Raj Kapoor as chief strategy officer and named<span> Melissa Waters vice president of marketing. </span></p><p>This is the first time Lyft has named a chief strategy officer, and it looked to someone with Lyft experience for the role: Kapoor is the cofounder and former CEO of Snapfish and later led Lyft's Series A round at Mayfield Fund. He served on Lyft's board until 2014.</p><p>The company wrote in a blog post that Kapoor will focus <span>on company strategy and new growth opportunities. </span></p><p>Kapoor's hiring comes at a crucial time for Lyft, which was most recently valued at $5.5 billion. The company <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/lyft-president-says-company-not-seeking-buyer-2016-8" target="_blank">reportedly rebuffed</a> a $6 billion acquisition offer from GM in August, with numerous reports at the time saying the company wanted as much as $9 billion. It had been reportedly approached by several buyers - including its main competitor, Uber. </p><p>At the time, Lyft president John Zimmer <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/lyft-president-says-company-not-seeking-buyer-2016-8" target="_blank">told Business Insider</a> that the company was not seeking a buyer, but had been approached with acquistion offers several times throughout its history. </p><p>"<span>That's happened multiple times throughout our business," Zimmer said at the time. "It's actually more of a normal course of business than has been portrayed, and of course we have to review anything that's of legitimate interest."</span></p><p>In August, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/uber-majority-ride-hailing-market-share-lyft-us-2016-8" target="_blank">Uber told investors</a> it has <span>between 84% and 87% of the US market share. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/lyft-catching-up-to-uber-in-major-us-cities-2016-10" target="_blank">Recent data</a> shows that's still the case: Uber is still beating Lyft by significant margins in every major US city, and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/uber-2016-losses-2016-8" target="_blank">both companies</a> continue to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/leaked-lyft-finances-show-big-losses-2016-8" target="_blank">spend millions of dollars</a> in driver and rider subsidies to beat the other.</span></p><p>In 2015, Lyft posted an operating loss of $360 million on revenue of about $200 million, <span>according to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/leaked-lyft-finances-show-big-losses-2016-8" target="_blank">a Wall Street Journal report</a> from early August. While Lyft expects to double revenue this year - up to around $450 million - it also expects to post an operating loss of more than $200 million, the Journal reported. </span></p><p><span>Lyft argues it isn't bleeding money - that it's spending money in order to gain market share. Lyft just hired its first-ever strategy chief to help it beat Uber

While on one hand, we have had classic pairings of Nargis-Raj Kapoor and Kajol-SRK proving that it’s okay to stick to the usual, we have also seen some fresh pairings, like that of Konkona Sen Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor, to prove that there is nothing wrong in experimenting a little when it comes to love stories. Today, we tell you of two such new and fresh pairings of Bollywood, the ones that have just surfaced, and when and where we would get to see them.<br />

<strong><keyword id="6354526" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Alia-Bhatt">Alia Bhatt</keyword> and <keyword id="2823" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Akshay-Kumar">Akshay Kumar</keyword></strong><br /> Even though it’s hard to believe, thanks to his good looks and physique, Kumar is 48, and Alia Bhatt, all of 22, is yet to touch the half of it. However, this clearly was the basis on which the makers of <keyword id="69762" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sriram-Raghavan">Sriram Raghavan</keyword>’s upcoming movie cast them both in the movie. Raghavan, known for his thriller cinema, is adapting the famous novel <em>Gone with the Bullet</em>, in which an 18-year-old girl falls in love with a 40-something assassin. Well, we don’t think anyone can come up with a better couple for this movie. The movie  would go on floors only next year though, so it’s quite some time before we get to see Kumar and Bhatt romancing on screen. While having a big banner release in the form of Sanam Re, opposite Pulkit Samrat, she has also bagged the lead role opposite the Greek God actor Hrithik Roshan, in Sanjay Gupta’s next, which is titled <em>Kaabil</em>. Rakesh Roshan, Hrithik’s father, is going to produce this film, which will go on floors after Hrithik completes shooting for Ashutosh Gowarikar’s <em><keyword id="1235110" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mohenjo-Daro">Mohenjo Daro</keyword></em>.
