In yet another sensational story of another Indian founder taking his startup for a joyride, Broker Network (operated by 4B <keyword id="50752" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="networks" source="Orion">Networks</keyword>) founder <keyword id="536283" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rahul-yadav" source="Orion">Rahul Yadav</keyword> reportedly maintained a luxurious lifestyle such as owning a Mercedes-Maybach and hired a boardroom at the Taj Land's End for Rs 80,000 per day, as employees were left unpaid for months. According to a report in leading startup news portal Inc42, Broker Network burnt over Rs 280 crore in less than 18 months, while over 150 employees have not been paid since November last year. "Yadav turned to his long-time employees to borrow personal loans to pay employee salaries. One such top-level employee lent close to Rs 50 lakh to Yadav. He has filed a criminal complaint against Yadav," the report noted, citing sources. Other employees were also asked to take "advance salary" loans and transfer the amount to Yadav. Employees alleged that all through this, Yadav maintained a luxurious lifestyle. "Yadav told us luxuries such as his Maybach came from his earnings at Anarock," and he was "also looking to buy a Bentley," one employee was quoted as saying. Yadav, who foundedAHousing.com has denied all allegations related to any wrongdoing at the company, according to the report. Allcheckdeals India Private Limited (AIPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of <keyword id="80004" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="info-edge" source="Orion">Info Edge</keyword>, invested Rs 276 crore in Yadav's 4B Networks and provided debt financing of Rs 12 crore. Now, Info Edge has initiated a forensic audit into the prop-tech startup in which it holds a stake, as Yadav "repeatedly failed to provide the information". Founded in 2020 by Yadav, 4B Networks last raised Rs 90 crore in September 2022 at a valuation of $185 million. AIPL sought information, including details and particulars of financial transactions, transactions with related parties and such other aspects, from 4B Networks and its current management. "However, 4B Networks has repeatedly failed to provide AIPL with such information and has also not responded to the information requests by the company on several occasions," according to an exchange filing by <keyword id="3378431" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="indo-edge" source="Orion">Indo Edge</keyword>. "AIPL has exercised its contractual rights under the shareholders' agreement and articles of association of 4B Networks and pursuant to the same, is initiating a forensic audit into the affairs of the investee company," the filing further read. The startup ecosystem has been rocked by several such cases in the past, including BharatPe Co-founder Ashneer Grover, Singapore-based fashion startup <keyword id="3131383" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="zilingo" source="Orion">Zilingo</keyword> founder Ankiti Bose and financial discrepancies at GoMechanic. Just two days ago, the Housing co-founder asked followers on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Facebook&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Facebook</a> whether he should rethink his current business model for startup <keyword id="3168655" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Intelligent-Interfaces">Intelligent Interfaces</keyword>, or go back to his initial business - real estate. 
 
Intelligent Interfaces was envisaged as a company that will offer provide data aggregation and visualization for the country’s government. The venture was backed by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Facebook&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Flipkart</a>'s Bansals, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Yuvraj+Singh&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Yuvraj Singh</a>'s private-equity venture and reportedly <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Paytm&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Paytm</a>'s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vijay+Shekhar+Sharma&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vijay Shekhar Sharma</a> and Rahul Sharma of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Micromax&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Micromax</a>. At the E-Summit held at IIT Bombay this January, Sachin Bansal endorsed Yadav's idea, saying he was after 'big problems'. 
 
However, a few months on there were more questions than answers. Yadav’s post back in Sept 2015 about the company designing ‘next-gen interfaces’ and that ‘elite/hardcore gamers can ping’ him for Product roles didn’t help much. According to MCA documents accessed by Inc42, the company raised some Rs. 3.1 crores at a valuation of Rs. 170 crores, while some reports pegged that figure at millions. 
 
Yadav’s second venture created a lot of buzz in the startup scene after his dramatic exit from Housing.

Touted as the bad boy of Indian startups, thanks to his attitude and theatrics, Yadav has been in the media limelight for all the wrong reasons. First it was the public spat with Shailendra Singh, MD at Sequoia Capital India, and then he got into a brawl with the Times of India group. Following that he publicly resigned, only to join again and dole out all his Rs. 200 Crores worth shares to his employees. 
 
While Yadav may be gone for good, here is a list of the top CEOs across the world who did things they wish never appeared in the media:

Snapchat’s young co-founder and CEO Evan Spiegel is often looked upon as technology’s next big thing. He brushes aside offers from Mark Zuckerberg and hangs out with the best in the industry. 
 
While that is all fine, a spill of emails from his college life in Stanford left the young entrepreneur embarrassed. After all, which CEO will like his jokes about peeing on girls to be made public? Desmond Hague, CEO of catering specialist Centerplate was forced to resign on grounds of ‘animal cruelty’. He was replaced by Chris Verros as acting CEO. 
 
The company’s official statement asserted, “The decision comes as a result of Hague's personal misconduct involving the mistreatment of an animal in his care.” 
 
3.Oppose gay marriage, see the door

Mozilla’s CEO Brendan Eich was effectively pushed out of the company after a dating website asked for a boycott of the web browser as Eich had offered a sizeable donation to those against gay marriage. 
 
While the donation was back in 2008, the company saw Eich’s actions as a potential threat to its policy of inclusiveness and diversity. The CEO was given the option to seek a sincere apology, stand by his actions and put the company at risk, or resign. He chose the last. 
 
4.Apparel CEO fired after sleaze fest

American Apparel finally got tired of the weird acts of CEO Dov Charney and showed him the door. Some even called him ‘the merchant of sleaze’. 
 
One can’t blame them. After all, would shareholders like to watch a YouTube video with the CEO dancing nude in front of his female colleagues or face repeated allegations of sexual harassment? You guessed it right.

So get your questions ready and let's have an interesting AMA here on /r/india," Reddit announced on Saturday. This session will be held on Tuesday, May 19 at 6 p.m. 
 
AMA, which is an abbreviation for Ask Me Anything is one of the most popular sections in the social media site, where users can ask any questions they want to. The users also have liberty to comment on the answers and rate questions, which they want to be answered.

 Yadav’s <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword> post went viral and got more than 1,000 likes, 40 comments and 130 shares in just around 9 hours. It reads, “Now I challenge Deepinder Goyal of Zomato and Bhavish Aggarwal of Olacabs to continue this noble act and give away HALF (not full) OF THEIR SHARES to their employees. And I hope both of them spread the nominations further." 
 Goyal replied, "Aww, so cute," while Aggarwal posted, "Give that man a cookie," along with a picture of US President <keyword id="15962" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Barack-Obama">Barack Obama</keyword>. 
 
Yadav pulled off the stunt to apparently prove he was not there for the money. He currently owns only 4.57% of Housing.com. 
 
Social media has been abuzz over the past few weeks given Yadav’s antics. First it was the much hyped resignation, closely followed by the equally public withdrawal, and finally giving away all his shares to employees. Most thought that was the end, but he’s not done. Now he’s daring other CEOs to do a Yadav. Clearly there’s no escaping his theatricality.

	While we are not so sure what lead really led to a sudden change of heart and who—among board members and Rahul Yadav—played the badass, but we are still shocked by the official statement that housing.com has recently released. It says:

	Rahul commented that "After some frank and healthy discussions with the Board I have agreed to withdraw my resignation and I apologize for my unacceptable comments about the board members. I look forward to staying on at Housing as CEO and building an even greater company, while working in full harmony with the board".
 

	But would Rahul Yadav stay on with the firm for long? Only time will tell!

Housing.com CEO takes a U-turn; withdraws resignation and apologizes for unacceptable comments

<keyword id="536283" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rahul-Yadav">Rahul Yadav</keyword> has decided to step down as CEO of <keyword id="1960231" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Housing-com">Housing.com</keyword> for the second time in less than two months, and this time it seems it is not a bluff. His resignation will be accepted by the board of the real estate portal, two people directly aware of the development said. 
 
Yadav, 26, who has been involved in a string of controversies, will be asked to stay on at the company and oversee product development. 
"After discussions with the board, Rahul has decided to step down," said a source. "There will be a board meeting within two weeks where this will be announced. He has let individual board members know." 
 
Rahul Yadav denied all such claims though. Yadav, an IIT-Bombay dropout and co-founder of Housing, did not immediately reply to queries from ET. A representative for <keyword id="163404" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Softbank">SoftBank</keyword>, the biggest investor in Housing, did not reply to an email sent on Thursday morning. 
 
Japan's SoftBank, and another investor Falcon Edge, had taken charge of operations at Housing after Yadav's confrontation with the board in late April and early May. In a letter announcing his resignation as CEO, Yadav questioned the intellectual prowess of the investors, who persuaded him to stay on but made him tender an apology. 
 
SoftBank's representative on the board, Jonathan Bullock, oversees all major decisions at the company. Yadav has courted one controversy after another, earning him a reputation as an enfant terrible of the Indian startup industry. He started a social media spat with <keyword id="122716" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sequoia-Capital">Sequoia Capital</keyword>'s managing director Shailendra Singh, and most recently posted a photo of InfosysBSE -0.40 % CEO <keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword> sleeping at an airport lounge. The provocation was that Yadav apparently tried to wake up a sleeping Sikka, who brushed him off saying he was too tired to talk to him. 
 
 The board of Housing has been on the lookout for a potential successor to Yadav for some time. Recruitment agency <keyword id="2918431" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Spencer-and-Stuart">Spencer and Stuart</keyword> has been leading the mandate for a new CEO. 
 
Housing was founded in 2012 by a dozen college-mates from IIT-Mumbai, of whom three have left the company. Housing, which competes with CommonFloor, 99Acres, and MagicBricks, owned by the publisher of this paper, has attracted more than $120 million (Rs 760 crore) in funding and is valued at over Rs 1,500 crore.

The situation turned hostile for Yadav as he had taken out the issue on social media. Bollywood actor <keyword id="5015" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Farhan-Akhtar">Farhan Akhtar</keyword> and his production firm <keyword id="233685" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Excel-Entertainment">Excel Entertainment</keyword> is working on the script. “The meeting with former Housing executive was to get an insider's view of how the core team was like in day-to-day affairs and what was going on when Yadav's fight became public," a person who is aware of the affairs told The Economic Times. A former employee of the Housing who knows the incidents well is helping with the story. While no official confirmation is available, neither from Yadav or Amazon, we expect the series to be a part of India original series that Amazon Prime has been planning for quite some time now.

This hope has come in the form of <keyword id="1133262" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Youwecan">YouWeCan</keyword> ventures, a <keyword id="351" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Yuvraj-Singh">Yuvraj Singh</keyword> initiative. The start-up aims to improve efficiency in governance. 
 "Proud to back Rahul Yadav and Intelligent Interfaces (ii) in helping the Government govern 100x better with the help of technology. Get ready for the (r)evolution!," Yuvraj Singh posted on his Facebook account, along with an image showing himself with Yadav and <keyword id="3190239" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Azeem-Zainulbhai">Azeem Zainulbhai</keyword>, Yadav’s co-founder. 
 
The details of the investments have not been disclosed by Yadav or Singh. 
 
The last we knew, Flipkart co-founders Sachin and Binny Bansal had made an undisclosed investment in Singh’s new venture. 
 Regarding YouWeCan, the venture was launched in April this year as a $10-million seedstage venture capital fund. He co-founded it with <keyword id="2926011" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nishant-Singhal">Nishant Singhal</keyword>, with an aim to back internet start-ups in the country.

Mumbai-based online realty platform, Housing.com, had released its CEO Rahul Yadav, with immediate effect, after a regular board meeting. 
The Housing Board, unanimously agreed to bring Yadav's tenure to a close, with reference to his behaviour towards investors, ecosystem and the media. 
 
The Board believed that his behaviour is not befitting of a CEO and is detrimental to the company, known for its innovative approach to product development, market expansion and brand building.

Now, Rahul Yadav is soliciting a girlfriend on social media

Employees of <keyword id="1960231" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Housing-com">Housing.com</keyword>, who received shares as gift by former chief <keyword id="536283" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rahul-Yadav">Rahul Yadav</keyword>, are enraged as the company is planning to give them those shares in the form of phantom stocks. 
 
Yadav had given nearly 5% of his shares to all its employees. Now, the new management of Housing.com, which is eyeing a strategic stake sale, is giving a phantom stock option. 
 
"Rather than getting physical stock options, the employee receives a documented understanding with the company. The PSU follows the price movement of the company's actual stock, paying out any resulting profits when due,” Housing's chief human resource officer Ajay Nair told employees in an e-mail. 
 
This means Housing.com can retain Yadav’s shares. 
 
Issuing actual shares to all employees would have created tax liabilities for the company and made it a public limited company, they said. Besides, former employees couldn't be issued actual shares, they said, declining to be identified. 
 
"Legally, we cannot redistribute Rahul's shares. The only legally permissible way to provide the intended benefit of Rahul's shares to qualifying employees and ex-employees is through the issue of PSUs,” a Housing.com spokesperson told ET.

	3. He challenges the wisdom and competitors without any inhibitions. He is the Kejriwal of the corporate world—a man who dares speak his mind without minding his language or acts. And he defines this trait of his as his style. "I don't care about what the perception and all is...this is our style," he told Quartz when they questioned his blunt resignation letter. Then in another interesting turn of events, he gave up all of his shares in the company and distributed it to his employees. While the world was still getting a hang of his sudden transformation of the badass corporate, he bounced back to his aggressive self and threw an open challenge to Zomato and Olacabs CEOs and asked them to give away half (not full) of their shares to their employees. He made this challenge on his Facebook wall. 
	 

	4. He repeats, repeats and repeats himself often! Repetition sells and marketing geniuses know that. Rahul is no exception. Two areas where we feel he has repeated himself exceptionally well are: in fetching investments and in creating controversies. It is the latter that forces one to notice Rahul no matter what. Controversies that he has created in the recent past include: his threatening email to Sequoia Cap, which he believed was brainwashing Housing.com employees to open their own incubation; his blunt resignation email to shareholders; his Facebook profile pic in which he was showing his middle finger; his sudden transformation from a badass corporate to a saint who gave up all his shares and gifted them to his employees; and then it was his open challenge to Zomato and Olacabs CEOs.
