In a bid to enhance sales, <keyword id="268892" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yum-Brands">Yum Brands</keyword> has split its operations into three divisions for <keyword id="6376241" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="KFC">KFC</keyword>, <keyword id="58553" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pizza-Hut">Pizza Hut</keyword> and <keyword id="131257" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Taco-Bell">Taco Bell</keyword>.<br />
<br /> This means <keyword id="1410879" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yum-India">Yum India</keyword> will no longer report to the headquarters in Kentucky and former Yum India chief executive Niren Chaudhary has been relocated to Dallas to head the KFC business across Asia, Canada and Latin America and the Caribbean.<br />

However, the heads of these three divisions will report to their heads in the US.<br />
<br />
KFC will be headed by Rahul Shinde, Pizza Hut by Unnat Varma and Ankush Tuli will head Taco Bell.<br />

Gaurav Marya, promoter of franchising and licensing firm Franchise India, told ET, "Yum has been in transition phase after their flagship brand Pizza Hut started faltering about three years back. In developing markets, Yum continues to face a huge challenge and India numbers still don't look robust. Splitting and narrowing focus on independent businesses is aimed at regaining growth momentum."<br />

As per some reports, the movie is titled The Ring, and would feature Khan as Harinder Singh Nehra, a Punjabi tour guide who will fall in love with one of his Gujarati tourists, played by Sharma. While most of the movie would be shot in Europe, some parts of it would also be shot in Punjab, the state where Khan’s character belongs to.<br />

NEW DELHI: Lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung may be cornering credit for ending <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword>'s dharna but sections of <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> seem to be unhappy with him for providing what they call an escape route to the Delhi chief minister when he had his back to the wall and the Centre could have twisted the knife.<br />

Congress ranks feel Kejriwal was at his weakest during his latest mass protest, drawing criticism from people and press alike and without compensation in the form of crowds. His outbursts, use of "inelegant" language and making light of the Republic Day celebrations had all been seen as detrimental to his cause. After having been on a roll since he launched his agitation and then a breathtaking electoral debut, the plucky anti-graft crusader suddenly appeared to have boxed himself in with what was seen by many as a petulant protest.<br />
<br /> However, just when he appeared to have been pinned down, the <keyword id="6356116" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="LG">LG</keyword> threw him a lifeline which a grateful Kejriwal grabbed with both hands, quickly going on to project as a triumph what was at best a face-saver. "We had him by his jugular when we allowed him to slip away. A good opportunity to corner him was lost because the matter was seen as a law and order issue rather than a political problem," said a source in the Congress familiar with the sense of regret in the higher echelons of the party over what they called "political mishandling".<br />
<br /> On record, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala praised both the LG as well as home minister Sushilkumar Shinde for defusing the standoff with <keyword id="6356115" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="AAP">AAP</keyword> with maturity and tact.<br />
<br />
Significantly, a statement issued later by AICC general secretary Ajay Maken contradicted reports that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was unhappy with Shinde. That, however, didn't leave people any wiser about Rahul's views on the LG's handling of the situation.<br />
<br />
The nuance was seen as important against the backdrop of speculation that the new Congress boss made no secret of his disappointment when he reviewed the developments of the day with his colleagues late on Tuesday evening.<br />
<br />
Sources explained that the LG committed the mistake of seeing the flexibility of AAP, which drastically scaled down its demand, as a breakthrough, losing sight of the opportunity that had suddenly emerged to nail the agitators.<br />
<br />
Bereft of crowds and having to play a street protester and chief minister at once, Kejriwal climbed down from demanding handing over Delhi Police to Delhi government and settled for two police persons, one an SHO and another a sub-inspector with PCR, to be sent on leave.<br />
<br />
Congress sources said while the LG must have felt happy that he had managed to get the agitators off the road for the cheapest price, he failed to recognize that Kejriwal, given the dire straits he was in, was only too happy to sneak through the escape route.<br />

Significantly, the compromise formula, sugarcoated as an "appeal" to provide Kejriwal with a cover, came as a surprise even to officials in the home ministry who were dealing with the stalemate. Sources in the ministry said officials as well as Intelligence Bureau director Asif Ibrahim were in favour of stretching the battle of nerves in order to tire out the agitators. They were not fazed by the looming possibility of the dharna entering into Republic Day, and were prepared to hold the event by cordoning off the protest site.<br />

The sense of regret appeared palpable on Wednesday when indications emerged that Kejriwal may like to repair his losses by implementing his plan to fast-track investigations into alleged corruption in Delhi Jal Board and the execution of schemes related to Commonwealth Games 2010. Both decisions can have serious implications for former CM Sheila Dikshit.<br />
<br />
Congress sources agreed that the failure of the protest did not reflect a dip in Kejriwal's popularity in the constituencies he poached from Congress, but they drew considerable comfort from AAP's failure to mobilize crowds. AAP leaders had frantically sent SOS messages to people to march to North Block where the home ministry is headquartered, but to little avail. The supporters who propelled the greenhorns to a grand debut refused to march to ground zero even after its leaders screamed at the police for committing brutalities on "peaceful protesters".<br />

This coupled with the fact that Kejriwal was seen as trivializing the sentiments attached to Republic Day suddenly seemed to have enhanced Congress's options versus the plucky rookie. Failure of the agitation would have deterred Kejriwal from hitting the streets yet again, besides denting his image among the groups he weaned away from Congress. "Alas, government failed to seize the moment," said a senior Congress source.

While the whole country seems reluctant to comment on whether there is a genuine Narendra Modi wave this time around or whether it is the handiwork of the media, no one can possibly deny a couple of poll trends which have come up this time.<br />

 <br /> In a narcissistic world, anything that glorifies the self is welcomed with open arms. Err… did we say arms? We mean the hands that take the pictures, of course. Social networking sites seem to thrive on the selfie culture, helping people glorify the self, even if it means throwing privacy and caution to the wind. In that sense, being ‘social’ is more about self-promotion, rather than networking with people and meeting them. <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword>, <keyword id="819905" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Instagram">Instagram</keyword> and Twitter are the new Page 3.<br />

When you say that all the world’s a stage, the elections must be the biggest platform to stage a great performance. So what other option was left for the 23.16 million young, peppy, cyber-savvy Gen Y, hitting the polling booths to exercise their franchise? It had to be a flood of inked selfies, expressly showing their joy and pride that come with casting the ballot.<br />
 <br />
Giving into this trend were celebrities and politicians who would not lose a chance to show that they did fulfil their responsibility. Rajinikath’s fans posted a picture of the <em>thalaiva</em> voting; Shah Rukh posed with his inky finger outside the booth, and so did Aamir and his wife Kiran. Sachin Tendulkar also surrendered to this selfie craze. Director-actor <keyword id="5015" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Farhan-Akhtar">Farhan Akhtar</keyword> posted his selfie with the picture taken at his house; Rahul Bose took his selfie with a poker face; <keyword id="8145" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Preity-zinta">Preity Zinta</keyword> went for a selfie pose for a snapshot while Raveena Tandon looked beautiful, shooting her inky index finger inside her car.<br />

But there were even more luminaries who followed the trend. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan voted without giving it a miss. Singer Kailash Kher turned to his camera soon after voting and showed the world he had performed his duty as an Indian citizen. Sonam Kapoor looked all radiant while posing with that inky finger right in front of her. And an almost forgotten Dino Morea posted his selfie soon after voting was done. <em>English Vinglish</em> director Gauri Shinde didn’t miss posing before her own camera after she voted. In a nutshell, the selfie frenzy took over during the polls and caught hold of everyone, almost everywhere.<br />

The ones who didn’t post their selfies were probably the most ‘tech-unabled’ people. The incessant flow of selfies were fast and furious, came in all shapes and sizes, and featured varied expressions – right from brilliant, billion-dollar smiles to haggard to merry ones. But the most disappointed lot of this season were those who went to the booth armed with their cell phones (naturally 3G-enabled ones, which would enable them to post a picture even before the ink on their fingers dried), only to find that their names were missing from the voters’ list. Their disappointment was as huge as Viswanathan Anand’s when he lost the World Championship to young Magnus Carlson. What a pity. And what a selfie-opportunity missed for life (or at least for the next five years).<br />
 <br />
Just as the indelible ink has made its mark throughout the democratic process, pinpointing the serious nature of our political responsibilities, people posting selfies after voting also tells us another story – a different story altogether. It amply shows that upholding the democratic system in India has now become a heady combination of duty and exhibitionism.<br />
