<ul><li>Bharti Airtel has officially launched its Security Intelligence Centre to protect enterprises from cyberthreats.</li><li>The company’s CEO Gopal Vittal claims that it took around ₹100 crore of investment and over a year to set up. </li><li>Vittal also revealed that the company already has 20 paying customers using the new platform and is hoping that the commercial launch will bring in more clients. </li></ul>To address the growing threat of cyber attacks on data and information, Bharti Airtel has now launched a new cybersecurity product called <keyword id="4644317" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel-Secure">Airtel Secure</keyword> for enterprises. It operates out of the Airtel Security Intelligence Centre set up in Manesar. According to Bharti Airtel’s CEO Gopal Vittal, the hub took an investment of over ₹100 crore and over a year to set up. But it’s a small price to pay for a piece of the cybersecurity market that is estimated to grow to $13 to $15 billion over the next five years. “We already have a couple of large companies who are already using our Security Intelligence Centre. We’re starting to bundle it for small and medium enterprises as well,” said Vittal, citing that around 20 paying customers already live on the product. The Government of India is also one of the potential customers with it already working hand-in-hand with the National Security Advisor (NSA). Vittal highlighted that there’s a team of over 500 cybersecurity experts behind the ‘integrated and automated’ facility. Airtel’s new global partnerships To make the new portfolio possible, Airtel has reeled in <keyword id="6390344" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="CISCO">CISCO</keyword>, <keyword id="1516392" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Radware">Radware</keyword>, <keyword id="141089" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="VMware">VMware</keyword>, and Forcepoint for this project. “You will see the launch of more and more partnerships. You will hear about that in the coming weeks and months,” said Vittal. Airtel and Radware also have plans to set up a scrubbing center in India. Roy Zisapel, Radware’s President and CEO, highlighted the recent attack on the New Zealand Stock Exchange, expressing the importance of a product like Airtel Secure for companies as the threat of cyberattacks has increased during the coronavirus pandemic with more people working from home. Vittal is optimistic that companies will sign up because security is no longer something to mull over but ‘basic hygiene’. “It’s become a very serious subject. It’s only going to grow with respect to importance over time. Every business we spoke to is acutely conscious of cyber security,” said Vittal. For example, it can be used to design sophisticated phishing campaigns by generating audio, images, or videos to create fake identities.While hackers exploit AI technologies, companies are adopting AI as a defense tool. As the number of connected devices on 5G networks increases, generative AI in security operations will become more crucial, David Cooper, a global lead for Accenture Security, said."What used to take a human being two hours, now there's an AI solution to do it in much faster time," Cooper said. "We're able to respond faster, we're able to catch up to the bad guys faster with interesting transformational technology. We're able to move so much faster and do more with limited resources."Business Insider spoke with several cybersecurity professionals who attended the annual <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/rsa-ceo-rohit-ghai-navigating-5g-cybersecurity-2024-5">RSA conference</a> this week in San Francisco about how generative AI is increasingly used in cybersecurity for 5G devices and networks. They said that while 5G networks have higher security standards, attacks could still come from identity breaches of accounts or devices connected to those networks."If you can stay ahead of the risks you perceive when you implement 5G solutions, you're going to be in good shape," said Shaun McAlmont, the president and CEO of the cybersecurity-awareness-training company Ninjio.<h2 id="e5693285-b863-431e-b794-a5dcd40a41c0">Accelerating cybersecurity</h2>Generative AI can speed up more routine security processes and free up resources, helping cybersecurity professionals increase productivity and make decisions faster. Things like the design and architecture of a 5G application, generating code samples, conducting tests, and speeding up authentication can be automated. It can also prevent attacks by helping to configure and manage networks."There's a distinct benefit for organizations where we may leverage AI for improving network quality, improving security, and network healing," Chris Novak, the senior director of cybersecurity consulting at Verizon Business, said. "There are opportunities for AI to help us analyze network traffic flows in real time, recognize where there is an issue, and ensure little to no impact to network users."AI can also help 5G users monitor their security and ensure that the services they connect to have the appropriate certifications and authorizations for transferring data.Large language models can help mitigate security threats by identifying suspicious patterns in traffic and unusual attempts to enter the network. Because AI can process an enormous amount of data about malicious threats, it can help isolate them before they spread further. Additionally, it can triage malware and other threats, making sense of complex attack-path data and automating threat responses.Edge-protection tools powered by AI can be a "first layer of defense" that can deal with mass data, David Aviv, the chief technology officer at Radware, said."Competitors that didn't adopt those machine-learning technologies have gotten left behind," said Steve Wilson, the chief product officer at <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/exabeam-ceo-handled-covid19-four-sick-employees-2020-4">Exabeam</a>, a network security company.<h2 id="5b84898c-98d6-47be-91d0-f45686ed332b">5G to strengthen AI</h2>5G can also boost the capabilities of AI applications themselves. With 5G, AI can do more computation and sensor analysis on the edge, meaning the computation is closer to the data source."The combination of AI and 5G will make it inevitable that we will be using machines for tasks that are currently performed by humans," said Ev Kontsevoy, the cofounder and CEO of Teleport, an identity access and management software company.It's becoming increasingly important for companies to apply AI to their cybersecurity practices because humans won't be able to keep up, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/rsa-president-cybersecurity-break-with-dell-2020-8">Rohit Ghai,</a> the CEO of RSA, said."Any 5G network is very very dynamic," Ghai said. "It's changing all the time. Human approaches to securing that are not able to keep up with the dynamic nature of the network."Now that mobile and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/iot-infrastructure-technology">Internet of Things</a> devices have become more ubiquitous, they're using even more data, which generative AI can help filter and secure."We're going to be required to collect an order of magnitude more data from more devices and provide really quick analysis on that," Wilson said.

Cybersecurity professionals say generative AI can be exploited in cyberattacks — but it can also be a powerful defense

<ul><li><keyword id="14635446" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="api-adoption" source="Orion">API adoption</keyword> has skyrocketed in the last one year, with about 92% of organisations seeing increased usage of APIs.</li><li><keyword id="14635447" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="undocumented-APIs" source="Orion">Undocumented APIs</keyword> prove to be the weakest links in the system</li><li>Open source and microservices are often misleadingly considered more secure</li></ul> APIs (application programming interfaces) are often referred to as the building blocks of digital transformation, and rightly so. In today’s app-driven economy, APIs fuel innovation, faster time-to-market and help drive revenue for organisations. A vast majority of enterprises have adopted APIs with the goal of creating a competitive differentiator in the market. Emerging workplace scenarios and connected applications have further pushed the adoption of APIs. More than 96% of organisations are utilising APIs for communications between their workloads and systems, according to a recent study by Enterprise Management Associates (EMA), in association with Radware. However, its huge popularity is tied to high security concerns, which organisations tend to overlook. If we analyse some of the more recent API-related breaches – Microsoft, Facebook, Venmo or JustDial, it’s evident that <keyword id="10068829" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="api-security" source="Orion">API security</keyword> must be taken more seriously. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case at this stage. Even worse, organisations that are extensively leveraging APIs believe that they have the security aspect under control, which is more of a ‘false sense’ of overconfidence, states the EMA survey. The reality of undocumented APIs A large number of organisations (92%) have increased the usage of <keyword id="89002" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="api" source="Orion">API</keyword>s in the previous year, with 59% already running most of their applications in the cloud – indicating how widespread the adoption of APIs will continue to be. At the same time, API security often becomes an afterthought in today’s highly distributed, cloud- and mobile-intensive technology environments, where a large percentage of applications appear to be poorly documented. About 62% of organisations surveyed by EMA indicated that they have over 30% of their APIs undocumented. Undocumented or untracked APIs regularly act as the weakest link during cyber incidents. A more intriguing finding from the survey is the general perception among organisations about their ability and visibility to protect those APIs from attacks. Many of the standard solutions deployed by organisations – XDR, API gateways and web app firewalls etc., – are considered effective in identifying attacks by almost 98% of the organisations. At the same time, over 7% of those surveyed indicate that there were no attacks to identify, while about 3% reported that the tools deployed were not able to adequately identify API attacks. “For many companies, there is unequivocally a false sense of security that they are adequately protected from cyberattacks. In reality, they have significant gaps in the protection around unknown and undocumented APIs,” said Gabi Malka, Radware’s chief operations officer and head of research and development. “API security is not a ‘trend’ that is going away. APIs are a fundamental component to most of the current technologies and securing them must be a priority for every organisation,” he added. Open source API security Many industries have witnessed an increasing adoption of open APIs in recent years. The general perception is that open-source technologies are inherently secure – for example, about 65% of the respondents in the EMA survey believe that open-source code is more secure and about 74% think that containers and microservices – which enable companies to design and deliver applications with speed – are secure by default. These factors add to the false sense of security. “The belief that open source is more secure by design could explain why some organisations are lax when it comes to patch management. Yet, as we have seen with Log4j and Heartbleed, open source can have the same security flaws as proprietary code. Believing that open source is inherently more secure by default only further contributes to the false narrative that leaves organisations vulnerable to cyber-attacks,” says Malka. Open-source APIs, microservices or containers thus offer no magic bullet for security. The survey findings accentuate why API protection must become a top priority for tech and security leaders, especially in a world where app experience determines the success of a brand. But organisations in general seem to be getting API security wrong, with many demonstrating the inability to protect the unknown, overconfidence in their existing security tools, and a lack of skilled resources. This also brings to the fore the need to incorporate API auto-discovery and data classification capabilities in enterprise security solutions to ensure the security of APIs. Airtel gains CERT-In empanelment — will now be able to offer its cyber security solutions to the Indian government and its companies

India on Wednesday successfully test-fired an extended- range supersonic <keyword id="144458" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="cruise-missile">cruise missile</keyword> <keyword id="42900" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BrahMos">BrahMos</keyword> with an indigenous booster from a test facility off the <keyword id="6357961" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="odisha">Odisha</keyword> coast. The missile was launched around 10.30 am from a mobile launcher at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Balasore district, sources said. An Indo-Russian joint venture, BrahMos missile has a strike range of about 400 km. "Congratulate @DRDO_India on the successful test-firing of an extended range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. The missile with an indigenous booster will further strengthen India's defence capability," tweeted Odisha Chief Minister <keyword id="43385" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Naveen-Patnaik">Naveen Patnaik</keyword>. India successfully test-fires its supersonic BrahMos cruise missile off the coast of Odisha

As part of its plan to launch its rocket from foreign rocket ports, Chennai-based small rocket-maker <keyword id="7122982" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="agnikul-cosmos">Agnikul Cosmos</keyword> Private Ltd on Wednesday said that it has signed an agreement with the <keyword id="10026792" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="alaska-aerospace">Alaska Aerospace</keyword> Corporation. In a tweet, Agnikul Cosmos said: "It's exactly 1 year since we presented our #MadeInIndia solution to honourable PM Shri @narendramodi ji. Today, humbled to take our homegrown product further as a global solution to customers across the world. Thank you, Alaska Aerospace." As per the agreement, Agnikul Cosmos will test-launch its 'Agnibaan' rocket from Alaska Aerospace's Pacific Spaceport Complex Alaskar on Kodiak Island in the US. Agnikul Cosmos, which is developing a small rocket with a capacity to carry 100 kg satellite into low earth orbit, said that the ability to launch from high latitude launch ports is a significant advantage. "Our first preference is to use Indian rocket ports at Sriharikota or the upcoming one at Kulasekarapattinam in Tamil Nadu (both belonging to the Indian Space Research Organisation). If the customer prefers the launch to happen from some other country, we will ship the rocket and launch from there," Srinath Ravichandran, co-founder and CEO Agnikul Cosmos had told IANS earlier. In July 2020, Agnikul signed an MoU with Italian company Leaf Space for ground station services. Ravichandran had said the company has signed up with a launch port in south Australia and is exploring four to five launch ports across the world. The company is hopeful of signing a satellite launch contract in 2021 and the debut launch of its 'Agnibaan' rocket is planned for 2022. Agnikul Cosmos signs up with US-based Alaska Aerospace to test rocket

India and China on Wednesday agreed to hold a meeting soon between the senior commanders of their armies for an early disengagement along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), where the two countries are locked in a face-off since June this year. New Delhi and Beijing held their 19th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on India-China border affairs on Wednesday. Both sides agreed that the next, i.e., the seventh round of meeting of senior commanders should be held at an "early date so that both sides can work towards early and complete disengagement of the troops along the LAC in accordance with the existing bilateral agreements and protocols, and fully restore peace and tranquility". The Indian delegation was led by Joint Secretary (East Asia) of the Ministry of External Affairs. The Director General of the Boundary &amp; Oceanic Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs led the Chinese delegation. An official statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi said that the two sides reviewed the current situation along the LAC and had "frank and detailed discussions on the developments since the last meeting of the WMCC on August 20". Both India and China attached importance to the meetings between the two Defence Ministers and the two Foreign Ministers held earlier this month. They also noted that the agreement between the two Foreign Ministers should be "sincerely implemented to ensure disengagement at all the friction points along the LAC". The two sides positively evaluated the outcome of the sixth senior commanders' meeting held on September 21. They emphasised the need to implement the steps outlined in the joint press release issued after the last meeting of the senior commanders so as to avoid misunderstandings and to maintain stability on the ground, the statement said. The representatives of both the sides said that there was a need to strengthen communication, especially between the ground commanders. Both sides agreed to continue to maintain close consultations at the diplomatic and military levels. India-China agree to hold early meeting for disengagement along LAC

<keyword id="6358064" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro">ISRO</keyword> is scheduled to launch its Venus mission in 2025 and France will participate in it, French space agency CNES said on Wednesday. The VIRAL (Venus Infrared Atmospheric Gases Linker) instrument co-developed with the Russian federal space agency Roscosmos and the LATMOS atmospheres, environments and space observations laboratory attached to the French national scientific research centre CNRS has been selected by the ISRO after a request for proposals, it said in a statement. ISRO chairman K Sivan and CNES president Jean-Yves Le Gall held talks and reviewed the areas driving cooperation between France and India in space. "In the domain of space exploration, France will be taking part in ISRO's mission to Venus, scheduled to launch in 2025. CNES will coordinate and prepare the French contribution, the first time a French payload will be flown on an Indian exploration mission," CNES said in a statement. However, there was no comment from ISRO. After the Mars Orbiter Mission (<keyword id="1506013" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="mangalyaan">Mangalyaan</keyword>) and Moon missions Chandrayaan-1 and 2, ISRO has set its eyes on Venus for carrying out its inter-planetary mission. France and India share a robust collaboration in arena of the space. It is one of the three nations with whom India collaborates in the strategic sectors of nuclear, space and defence -- the other two being the US and Russia. In March 2018, the two countries also issued a 'Joint Vision for Space Cooperation'. Since September 2018, CNES and ISRO have set up a working group focused on cooperation in the field of human spaceflight, the French agency said. Initial exchanges have concentrated on training for India's flight physicians and technical teams and the supply of CNES flight systems," it added. The <keyword id="6355100" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Navy">Indian Navy</keyword> has conducted exercises with Russia and 'Quad' countries - an informal security forum comprising India, the US, Japan and Australia - in a message to China on getting a wider footprint in the Indo-Pacific region. The Indo-Pacific region is seen from the west coast of India to the US. The Indian Navy carried out a three-day bilateral maritime exercise with Japan in the north Arabian Sea from September 26, 2020 to September 28, 2020. It was the fourth edition of India-Japan Maritime bilateral exercise JIMEX, which is conducted biennially. The last edition of JIMEX was conducted in October 2018 off Visakhapatnam in India. Naval cooperation between India and Japan has increased in scope and complexity over the years. Advanced level of operations and exercises took place during three days. It is indicative of the continued upswing in Indo-Japanese defence relations and continued efforts by both governments to work closely for a more secure, open and inclusive global commons, in accordance with international regulations. The helicopter carrier of Japan JS Kaga took part in the recent exercise. The Kaga and its sister ship the Izumo are being converted into aircraft carriers that will carry US-built maritime planes, the F35-B. India, Japan, China and South Korea are the countries now involved in what is seen in strategic circles as the Asian carrier race. The Australian Navy and Indian Navy carried out passage exercise in the East Indian Ocean Region from September 23 to September 24. The exercise involved participation of HMAS Hobart from the Australian side and Indian naval ships Sahyadri and Karmuk. In addition, an Indian maritime patrol aircraft and helicopters from both sides carried out coordinated exercise. The exercise, aimed at enhancing interoperability, improving understanding and imbibing best practices from each other, involved advanced surface and anti-air exercises including weapon firings, seamanship exercises, naval manoeuvres and cross deck flying operations. To boost mutual confidence and cooperation, a bilateral maritime exercise between Indian Navy and Russian Navy took place in the Bay of Bengal on between September 4 and September 5. "The exercise was aimed at imbibing best practices between the two navies," Indian Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal told IANS. He also said that the exercise helped to further boost mutual confidence and cooperation between the two Navies and would reinforce the longstanding bond of friendship between the two countries. The exercise is known as 'Indra Navy' and is the 11th edition. It is a biennial bilateral maritime exercise between Indian Navy and Russian Navy. Indian Navy units undertook Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with units of US Navy - Nimitz Carrier Strike Group as they transited through Indian Ocean Region on July 20.
