The founder of Yes Bank — which was taken over by the RBI — was arrested on Sunday (March 8). In addition, the CBI has named his wife, Bindu and their three daughters — Roshini, Radha and Rakhee — as co-accused in a case of money laundering. <div type="image" title="rana kapoor" msid="74550156" hostid="261"></div>

 The company founded by his three daughters was charged a vehicle for kickbacks. This is one of those rare cases where a scam-hit person’s family is also into the dock. The government issued a lookout notice of Kapoor and his family and his daughter Roshini was stopped from flying out of the country, to London on March 8. Apart from bad credit decisions that led to crisis at the bank, Kapoor is being investigated for graver crimes like aiding the scam-hit Deewan Housing FInance (DHFL). ED also seized the family properties and is searching across seven locations in Mumbai. The start of the scam It all started in April 2018, when Yes Bank invested ₹3,700 crore in Dewan Housing Finance (DHFL). In return, Kapil Wadhavan of DHFL gave ₹600 crore fund as loan to <keyword id="8884258" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="doit-urban-ventures">DoIT Urban Ventures</keyword>, a company held by the three Kapoor sisters. DoIT Urban Ventures was formed in March 2012, listed as “limited by shares” company. "Rana Kapoor obtained undue pecuniary advantage from DHFL in the matter of investment in the debentures of DHFL by Yes Bank, through the companies held by his wife and daughters," the FIR alleged. The sisters who said ‘no’ to banking The Kapoor sisters had one thing in common — the ‘no’ to a banking career. Rakhee, Kapoor’s second daughter studied finance and even started her career with JP Morgan.  His youngest daughter Roshini had always looked up to her father and his entrepreneurial spirit. “My dad has always been my role model. His dedication and commitment towards his work and his passion as an entrepreneur and leader has fired up an entrepreneurial spirit in me. He has taught my sisters and me to dream big and not settle for mediocrity,” <a href="https://www.exchange4media.com/marketing-news/my-wife-and-i-have-always-encouraged-our-daughter-roshini-to-travelrana-kapoorfounder-ceoyes-bank-68253.html">Roshini had once said</a> in an interview. The Three Sisters Institutional Office This entrepreneurial spirit led to the foundation of the finance company — The Three Sisters Institutional Office — to manage the family wealth of Rana Kapoor, identifying areas of investment of personal wealth across sectors like tourism and logistics. The first thing <keyword id="2182807" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Radha-Kapoor">Radha Kapoor</keyword> did after studying communication at Parsons in New York, she created her own company DoIt Creations in 2009. Since then, Radha Kapoor invested in an array of businesses — starting with the laundry business Pressto, followed by interiors-design company Brand Canvas and the Indian School of Design and Innovation (ISDI), which offers courses in media and design. “During our research, we also found that a lot of people wait till they travel abroad to get some of their more expensive clothes cleaned, or send them to hotels. With the retail boom in India, we felt there was a market for a good dry cleaning service,” Radha Kapoor <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/mumbai/business/no-bank-for-radha-kapoor/article8013182.ece">said</a>. The absence of high street dry cleaners who understand textiles, embellishments such as embroidery and delicate garment pieces, convinced me of Presto's potential, she added. According to reports, the Kapoor sisters <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/rana-kapoors-daughters-bet-on-startups-new-business-invest-rs-965-crore/articleshow/58523244.cms">invested nearly ₹965 crore</a> to incubate the new business, which was founded by the eldest daughter Radha Kapoor in 2013. Talking about his family business, Rana Kapoor had once <a href="https://prime.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/67017850/fintech-and-bfsi/how-a-family-succession-plan-and-the-conflicts-it-spawned-put-yes-banks-rana-kapoor-and-his-clan-in-a-spot">said in an interview</a>, “Typically, families have a tendency of starting a business. They came up with an idea: Let us not call it the Rana Kapoor family office. We will call it TTS:IO — The Three Sisters Institutional Office,” Kapoor said in a start plus programme on father-daughter relationships. However, the very relationship has landed them all in trouble who will have to face questioning by the CBI. The investigation agencies is upping its ante and has raided and searched seven locations in connection with the case. This was after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman asked the RBI to look into the reasons behind the many troubles at Yes Bank, on which a moratorium had to be issued by the banking regulator. <ul><li>Shivinder and Malvinder, who are the founders of <keyword id="46994" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Fortis-Healthcare">Fortis Healthcare</keyword>, are being investigated for the siphoning of ₹23 billion worth of funds from their listed companies. </li><li>On September 4th, <keyword id="136456" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shivinder-Singh">Shivinder Singh</keyword> announced that he had filed a case against Malvinder and Sunil Godhwani, the former chairman of Religare, for their role in the “oppression and mismanagement” of their businesses. </li><li>A number of Indian regulators, including the SEBI and SFIO, are looking into the financial irregularities and diversion of funds at the brothers’ companies. </li></ul>Update: On September 13th, following intervention from their mother, Shivinder Singh withdrew the case he had filed against his brother Malvinder and Sunil Gondhwani in the NCLT. The brothers will now settle the case themselves out of court as their family members mediate. However, if the mediation fails, Shivinder retains the option of seeking a redressal through the courts. The decline of the healthcare czars, Shivinder Singh and brother <keyword id="6359351" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="malvinder-singh">Malvinder Singh</keyword>, has been well-documented in recent months. The pair, who are the founders of Fortis Healthcare, have seen the empire they inherited from their father Parvinder Singh unravel spectacularly over the past few years and a fortune worth billions of dollars squandered. The brothers are being investigated for the loss of ₹23 billion from their listed companies, which has resulted in their public shareholdings being frozen. Fortis, which has been posting losses since 2015, has been at the centre of a money-laundering scandal related to the approval of unsecured loans to the brothers. Another financial services subsidiary, Religare Enterprises, which owned by them and was run by a close confidante, Sunil Godhwani, has also been hauled up by authorities for the siphoning of funds to firms that were privately held by the brothers. It has been speculated that the funds have gone towards the real estate investments of a spiritual sect, the Radha Soami Satsang Beas- the leader of which is the brothers’ uncle. The brothers also owe $500 million to Daiichi-Sankyo, which bought <keyword id="82365" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ranbaxy-Laboratories">Ranbaxy Laboratories</keyword> in 2008. The Delhi High Court found that they misrepresented the seriousness of regulatory investigations in the US against the Indian pharma major over the alleged violation of manufacturing standards and falsification of data. To add to their woes, they are also reeling from the losses of Ligare Aviation, a private charter airline business, and Religare Capital Markets, a failed investment banking venture. And now, a lawsuit On September 4th, Shivinder Singh announced that he had filed a case against his older brother Malvinder and Godhwani in the <keyword id="6354457" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Company-Law-Tribunal">National Company Law Tribunal</keyword>, a bankruptcy court, for their role in the “oppression and mismanagement” of Fortis Healthcare, Religare and related firms. Shivinder claims he has no part to play in the downfall of the companies as he left the business in December 2015 to join his uncle’s spiritual sect. He also allocates most of the blame to his brother Malvinder, who was chairman of the Fortis Healthcare over the period when the financial irregularities took place. The statement is in stark contrast to one issued last month by both the brothers that placed <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/current/corporate/singh-brothers-say-sunil-godhwani-orchestrated-transactions-left-them-with-debt-load/story/281563.html">the blame squarely on Godhwani’s shoulders</a>. As things stand, a number of Indian regulators, including the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and <keyword id="107956" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Serious-Fraud-Investigation-Office">Serious Fraud Investigation Office</keyword> (SFIO), are looking into the financial irregularities and diversion of funds at the brothers’ companies. Heads are expected to roll once their findings are revealed. Meanwhile, Fortis Healthcare will get a short-term lifeline from IHH Bhd, a Malaysian healthcare group. IHH is set to invest around ₹40 billion in India’s second-largest hospital chain for a 57% stake. The investment will ensure that the cash-strapped Fortis continues its operations for the foreseeable future.

The Centre has revealed the names of three people against whom prosecution has been initiated for stashing <keyword id="6356023" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Black-Money">black money</keyword> in foreign banks. The names were revealed in the affidavit that the Centre has freshly submitted to the Supreme Court to explain its ‘misunderstood’ stand on the issue of revealing the names of <keyword id="2571247" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Foreign-bank-account">foreign bank account</keyword> holders. 
 <keyword id="2571248" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Pradeep-Burman">Pradeep Burman</keyword> of the Dabur group is among the names mentioned in affidavit submitted before the Supreme Court. The other names are <keyword id="349508" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Radha-Timblo">Radha Timblo</keyword>, a Goa-based mining baron, and Rajkot-based businessman <keyword id="2571234" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Pankaj-Chimanlal-Lodhiya">Pankaj Chimanlal Lodhiya</keyword>. The other names, which also include some high-profile politicians, will be revealed only after prosecution is initiated against them. 
 
The government had earlier said that revealing all names without scrutinising the illegalities committed by them would violate the right to privacy. As per the rules laid down by the Reserve Bank of India, an individual can legitimately deposit $125,000 in a foreign bank per year. In its earlier affidavit, it had cited bilateral agreements, according to which, names of individuals holding accounts in foreign banks cannot be disclosed unless prosecution for committing irregularities. 
 
Earlier, the Supreme Court had asked the central government to set up a high-level task force to monitor the work of intelligence and law-enforcing agencies in bringing back the black money deposited in foreign banks.

Names In The Black Money Case Get Revealed

In order to curb soaring <keyword id="456002" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="potato-prices">potato prices</keyword>, the government has decided to import potatoes. 
 "We are taking all possible measures to control price rise in potato," <keyword id="13210" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Agriculture-Minister">Agriculture Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6359516" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Radha-Mohan-Singh">Radha Mohan Singh</keyword> said. He added that the ministry will soon release tenders so that shipments can arrive by next month. 
 
In recent months, potato prices have been soaring throughout north India. Retail prices in Delhi currently range from Rs 35 to 40 per kg. 
In June, the government had imposed a minimum export price of $450 per tonne to boost availability in the country. 
 
This move aims at overcoming shortages till fresh harvest arrives in January next year.

The central government took stock of the <keyword id="67286" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Food-inflation">food inflation</keyword> on Tuesday and decided to impose a minimum export price on onions, release more rice in the open market and crack down on hoarders. State governments have been advised to delist the trade of fruits and vegetables through the Agriculture Produce Market Committee, so that farmers can sell them in the open market at lesser prices. 
 “The situation is not alarming and the price rise is only marginal. We are acting to discourage hoarding (in anticipation of a deficit monsoon) and prevent middlemen from taking advantage of the spike,” said Finance Minister <keyword id="42575" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arun-Jaitley">Arun Jaitley</keyword>. He said this while talking to the Press after a meeting with Agriculture Minister <keyword id="1081443" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Radha-Singh">Radha Singh</keyword> and Food and Consumer Affairs Minister <keyword id="973" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ram-Vilas-Paswan">Ram Vilas Paswan</keyword>. 
 
Jaitley also said that the government is monitoring the prices of 22 food items and there has been some increase in the prices of onions, potatoes and some pulses. 
 
The government has imposed a minimum export price (MEP) of $300 per tonne on onions while the Commerce Ministry will announce an MEP for potatoes. State governments will be given a line of credit to import pulses, if required. The Food Corporation of India has been directed to release five million tonnes of rice in the open market.

The competition was shifted to the UAE from Bangladesh following unrest in the South Asian nation owing to a students' protest. Spin all-rounder Shreyanka Patil and top-order batter Yastika Bhatia have been included in the squad subject to fitness. Shreyanka had fractured her finger during the Asia Cup game against Pakistan while Bhatia is recovering from a knee injury. Following the loss to Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final, Kaur will be under pressure to lead her team to the coveted title. The men were finally to able get the monkey off their back and win an ICC title after an 11 year gap back in June. The women, who too have all the resources at their disposal, would be expected to cross the finishing line on this occasion. Kaur first captained the team in the 2018 edition and since then India have reached one final but it has largely been a story of missed opportunities. Their biggest challenge will be to beat Australia as usual. Both teams are in the same group which also includes Pakistan and Sri Lanka. On expected lines, the squad is loaded with spinners including Deepti Sharma, Asha Sobhana and Radha Yadav. The two specialist pacers are Renuka Singh and Arundhati Reddy while Pooja Vastrakar is the sole fast bowling all-rounder. Titas Sadhu is a notable name missing in the pace department. "Given the players we have it's a good squad. Hope Yastika and Sheyanka get fit," former India captain Diana Edulji told PTI. Star batter Smriti Mandhana has been named Kaur's deputy and like always will be the key at the top of the order. Besides the thin fast bowling resources, India are also not a side full of power-hitters. Kaur and Richa Ghosh will be responsible for producing the big hits in the middle overs phase of the game.
