It was an emotional moment for the entire family. This reflects the kind of culture that the organisation owned by Ratan Tata imbibes. The respect and consideration that Tata Group has for its employees is unmatchable,” she said. Talking about how the loss of Ratan Tata feels personal, the ex-Tata Cliq employee added, “The news of Mr. Ratan Tata's passing feels like a deeply personal loss. Having had the privilege to work at a Tata company, I witnessed firsthand the incredible work culture and ethics he championed. His vision fostered an environment of respect, humility, and a deep sense of purpose, where doing good for society was just as important as driving business success. ‘My parents received a letter thanking them when I joined’: Ex-Tata Cliq employees recall Ratan Tata’s company culture

New Delhi [India], May 24 (ANI): <keyword id="21790772" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indias-data-centre-industry" source="Orion">India's data centre industry</keyword> to attract an investment of USD 5.7 billion by 2026 amid the growing demand for <keyword id="19899640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="AI" source="keywords">AI</keyword> (<keyword id="107950" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="artificial-intelligence" source="Orion">Artificial Intelligence</keyword>), says a report by real estate and investment management company, JLL. The report highlights that India's <keyword id="13391374" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="data-centre-industry" source="Orion">data centre industry</keyword> will add 791 MW capacity by 2026 and this expansion will lead to a demand of 10 million sq. ft of real state space. "The <keyword id="126804" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="data-centre" source="Orion">Data Centre</keyword> (DC) industry in India is set to witness remarkable growth, with projections of adding 791 MW capacity by 2026. This expansion will drive demand for 10 million sq. ft. of real estate space, attracting investments worth USD 5.7 billion" said the report. A data center is a facility that centralises an organisation's IT operations and equipment to store, process and transfer data and applications. The report highlights that growth in computing power and the resulting new applications are expected to drive strong demand for DC industry over the medium term. The expected demand of the Indian data centre industry to reach 650-800 MW during 2024-26. The surge in demand for data centres is primarily fuelled by the increasing adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The report points out that Cloud Service Providers (CSPs), who essentially offer IT infrastructure systems primarily for data storage and computing power accessible through the Internet, have realigned their requirements to factor in AI-led demand. The CSPs have also announced higher investments to scale up AI-led growth. "The exponential growth in processing power and data volumes, driven by AI, necessitates the development of new data centres capable of meeting energy, processing, and cooling needs. The anticipated expansion and progression of diverse AI disciplines are projected to create additional demand for data centres, expanding their capacity requirements and advancing their capabilities" said Rachit Mohan, Head, Data Centre Advisory, India, JLL. According to the report in the second half of 2023, there was a 12 per cent increase in absorption to 81 MW compared to 72 MW during the same period last year. This growth can be attributed to cloud service providers (CSP) gaining momentum after a brief hiatus during the first half of 2023. In Mumbai, absorption nearly doubled during this period as CSPs renewed their pace of absorption. "India is poised to be the third-largest economy, with a projected USD 5 trillion GDP by 2027 with digital economy contribution of around 20 per cent. This digital expansion is anticipated to propel the growth of India's data centre industry, projected to increase from 853 MW in 2023 to 1,645 MW by 2026," said Dr. Samantak Das, Chief Economist and Head of Research &amp; REIS, India, JLL. There was a lower supply addition of 75 MW during H2 2023 as the available supply from the first half was utilised to meet the demand, resulting in tighter vacancy levels of 5.5 per cent. With a large user market, talented workforce, and thriving startup ecosystem, India presents a significant opportunity to emerge as a global data hub, driven by sustainable practices. The country's DC sector expanded from 350 MW in 2019 to 854 MW in 2023, in line with the increasing digital usage trends.

Yes, if you are able to generate 1% to 2% higher returns by doing it yourself viz. a viz. working with a professional human advisor. This is really tough considering the majority get trapped by investment biases. They work well for individuals with moderate risk tolerance, favouring a hands-off, diversified investment style. However, robo-advisors may not be the right choice for those in need of intricate financial planning or highly personalised investment strategies. “Considering the early phase that robo-advisory is in today and the fact that most such models are yet to undergo major macroeconomic, business and market cycles, most robo-advisory services may be suitable to informed investors who are aware about the principles, commitments and possible shortcomings of such platforms,” says Karkera. So investors are advised to exercise caution and first understand the workings of robo-advisory before using it for their investments.

This will be applicable from July 1, 2023. Before this, TCS of 5% was applicable to foreign outward remittance in excess of ₹7 lakh. Now, apart from education and medical treatment, there will be no threshold limit for other instances of remittances. “ There is a proposal to increase the TCS to 20% from 5% for exchange remittances under LRS as prescribed by RBI. The TCS can be claimed as a credit in the tax return. This impacts the remittances being made under LRS, such as investing in foreign stocks, property overseas travel, maintenance of relatives abroad,” says <keyword id="8998975" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rohinton-sidhwa" source="Orion">Rohinton Sidhwa</keyword>, partner, Deloitte India. Let us take a closer look at how this will affect overseas remittance under LRS. Overseas education and medical treatment: For both overseas education and medical treatment, the 5% TCS is charged on the total amount of remittance in excess of ₹7 lakh. The budget proposes no change in that. Plus, when someone takes a loan to study abroad the TCS is charged only at 0.5% of the total amount in excess of ₹7 lakh. It is to be noted that education includes tuition fees and hostel expenses. “In case a student goes abroad and lives in a school/college hostel and remittance for foreign exchange is made for the same, then it can be considered as remittance for educational purposes. However, in case the student spends for food/lodging and where there is no link of such spending with the school/college, then it may be sought to be classified as other than education purposes and the field officers may seek to demand a levy of TCS at 20%. In case this happens, then education abroad would become quite cash intensive,” says <keyword id="1256264" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vivek-jalan" source="Orion">Vivek Jalan</keyword>, Partner, Tax Connect Advisory. Overseas tour packages: Overseas tour packages will get costlier and attract a TCS of 20% without any threshold limit. If an Europe tour package costs ₹10 lakh, one now has to pay ₹12 lakh for the same package going ahead. “However, this is applicable only to your packages and will not apply if someone is making bookings of hotels etc on their own,” says Rachit Sharma, Company Secretary, Taxmann Group. “While various boosters have been provided for integrated domestic travel in this budget, yet this increase in the rate of TCS would act as a dampener for foreign travel. Hence the policy of The Government seems clear,” says Jalan. Overseas investments: When investing abroad, one has to pay 20% TCS without any threshold limit going forward. Over the last few years more and more Indians have been investing overseas, especially in the US. Since every dollar one invests will now have a 20% tax imposed on it, this will affect their returns (earlier one did not have to pay any TCS on up to ₹7 lakh invested). Buying property abroad: “Similarly, if the person wants to buy an immovable property outside India, in addition to the money he has to pay for the purchase of the property, he will be required to pay 20% of the the purchase price by the way of TCS to the bank from where remittance is made,” says <keyword id="47558" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ved-jain" source="Orion">Ved Jain</keyword>, founder, Ved Jain Associates. Hence, if you are buying a property in Dubai worth Rs 3 crore, an additional ₹60 lakh needs to be paid. However, one can get a tax credit on the same as explained later. <div type="image" title="budget-table" msid="97555446" hostid="261" sizebytes="76684" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&amp;lt;em&amp;gt;Source: Taxmann Group, Only for remittance under LRS&amp;lt;/em&amp;gt;&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> TCS can be settled against tax dues: TCS on remittances essentially means that a person making a remittance will have to pay an additional 20% at the time of making the remittance, i.e. there will be an additional 20% cash flow paid towards TCS. However, it can be settled against tax dues. “This amount then will appear in their Form 26AS since TCS is linked to their PAN and can be settled against their tax dues. This is tax already collected from them. In the event the taxpayer has a refund situation, the excess tax collected via TCS shall be refunded to the taxpayer,” says Archit Gupta, founder and CEO, Clear. “However for everyone this implies more funds locked in which are only adjustable while paying taxes, or refunded after the FY once income tax return is processed,” says <keyword id="3707077" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sidhwa" source="Orion">Sidhwa</keyword>. One may infer that this move is aimed at discouraging people from sending money abroad. When sending money abroad, one thus needs to plan accordingly.

One US dollar now costs ₹80. The impact will be felt by students going to the US, Australia and Canada. If a student takes a loan of $100,000, it would now amount to ₹8,000,000 instead of ₹7,000,000 last year. “Amidst the sharp fall in rupee against the US dollar, and the expense towards pursuing higher education abroad skyrocketing, availing the right education loan has become imperative for students and their parents, especially for countries like the United States, Australia and Canada.” Mahesh Shukla, CEO and Founder of lending app PayMe India, told Business Insider. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="It’s much worse for students already studying abroad" comment="subhead" text="It’s much worse for students already studying abroad">It’s much worse for students already studying abroad</cmsannotation> Ankit Mehra, the CEO and co-founder of non-banking financial company (NBFC) GyanDhan, noted that the situation could worsen by next year if the rupee continued its downward slide. The students who took the loan this year at the deprecated rate would at least be able to pay the tuition fee at that rate for the first year of education. The matter gets more complex for students who are already studying abroad. “A student who has been paying a fee of ₹65 per dollar in 2017 will now have to pay around ₹80 per dollar in 2022, thereby increasing his financial obligations significantly,” PayMe India’s Shukla said. The value of the rupee has depreciated about 7% in the last six months. Now, students who took education loans without any margins for currency depreciation could currently be at a shortfall of 7%, which is a really big margin to cover. If the value of the rupee depreciates any further, the students who went to study this year would be in a similar situation for their second year of education. Several lenders — including GyanDhan — have launched a top-up scheme offering additional funds to students. So much for the tuition fee. After all, crypto and stock investments offered stellar returns. But the tables seem to have turned now that the cryptocurrency has been plunging for quite some time, causing losses to many investors. Bitcoin — the world’s largest cryptocurrency — hit an 18-month-low last month as the price dipped below $20,000. He noted that crypto and equity asset classes are currently on a downward trend after hitting an all-time high only a few months ago, and this has made the investors more skeptical about its future. “They all are hoping and visualizing that there may be further corrections in all the asset classes. Hence, they have split their investments into fixed deposits also. So in case it [market] goes further down they can utilise the same amount of capital [they invested in FDs] and reinvest in equity,” he explained. He also noted that the investors who did not pull out their capital from crypto and equity markets at the right time have already taken a hit and want to avoid any further loss. “Basically when greed is there, people actually jump on. People think that it [markets] will continue to go up… But now people are being a little conservative. Hence, the rise in fixed deposits,” he noted. Not that crypto was doing any better before this. A survey by Indian crypto exchange WazirX revealed that four in five traders have slowed down their investments in cryptocurrency since the implementation of a new tax. The company’s survey — involving 9,500 respondents — found that one in five crypto traders are considering shifting their trading activities to international exchanges. After all, all profits from crypto are currently taxed at <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/budget/news/from-cryptocurrencies-to-nfts-india-to-tax-all-virtual-digital-assets-at-30/articleshow/89268587.cms">a flat 30% rate</a>, which is the highest tax bracket and the same rate as lottery winnings. The government also mandated a 1% tax deducted at source (TDS) on all crypto transaction redemptions, even the ones that make a loss. So, for example, a person who buys a crypto asset at ₹10,000 and sells it at ₹12,000 would show a profit of ₹ 2,000 and pay 30% tax, which is ₹600. In terms of TDS, if you had bought Bitcoin worth ₹10,000 and sold it at the same price without any profit, you would get back only ₹9,900. Harley-Davidson has stopped production of its LiveWire electric motorcycle due to a charging glitch

New Delhi, Jan 12 () The amendments in the IBBI regulations will prevent backdoor entry of former promoters in companies under liquidation by covering the "loopholes" in the law and are in line with the objective of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), experts said.
The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) has amended the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Insolvency Resolution Process for Corporate Persons) Regulations, 2016 and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Liquidation Process) Regulations, 2016.
Under the amendments introduced to the liquidation process regulations, persons who were ineligible are now barred from being part of any compromise or arrangement at the stage of liquidation. 
Furthermore, a secured creditor who chooses to sell secured assets independently also cannot sell the same to a person who is ineligible under the IBC.
"This has been introduced to specifically overrule the decisions passed by some NCLTs, whereby it was held that no bar operated on the sale of secured assets to the ex-promoters of the Corporate Debtor, if such sale is carried out by a secured creditor under Section 52 of the IBC," said PunitDutt Tyagi, Executive Partner, Lakshmikumaran and Sridharan Attorneys.
Rachit Sharma, DGM, Taxmann said the new amendment to IBC norms restricts secured creditors from selling or transferring assets of a liquidating - company to any person who is not eligible to submit an insolvency resolution plan. 
"With the new amendment, the legislature has not left any loophole which could allow the ex-promoters and other ineligible persons to buy the stressed asset or even participate in a scheme of arrangement," he said. 
According to him, the law makers' intent are very clear, not only does the law bar the ex-promoters from participation under the Code, it now goes on to bar sale outside liquidation process also. 
The amendment is in line with the intent of the Section 29A of Code preventing any sort of re-entry of ex-promoters at any point of resolution/liquidation process, he said.
Another legal expert, L Viswanathan, Partner, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, said the changes in the regulations "is in line with the objective of the IBC" to disallow persons who are disqualified from submitting a resolution plan from re-acquiring the company through the mechanism of a scheme or in enforcement of security interests by secured creditors.
In fact, the amendment goes further to provide that such persons "shall not be a party in any manner to such compromise or arrangement thereby even possibly disenfranchising such persons also from being eligible to vote as members on any scheme of compromise or arrangement", Viswanathan said.
Mehul Bheda, Partner, Dhruva Advisors LLP was of the opinion that the amendments have been introduced to bring liquidation on par with the resolution process. 
The restrictions placed on the promoters under Section 29A of the code are now equally applicable to liquidation. 
"This means that no promoter, who is barred from the resolution process, can make a backdoor entry by buying the assets of the company under liquidation or even participating in a scheme of arrangement under Section 230," Bheda added. 
The IBC is the bankruptcy law which seeks to consolidate the existing framework by creating a single law for insolvency and bankruptcy. NKD CS
