Jharkahnd has announced that Manoj Kumar Yadav will contest from Chatra Lok Sabha constituency in Jharkhand. Jharkhand has 14 Lok Sabha seats in total. Presently the Chatra seat is held by the BJP since Sunil Kumar Singh won from this seat during 2014 Lok Sabha elections on behalf of BJP. From Ranchi, the party is fielding Suboth Kant Sahay. From Singhbum (ST) Lok Sabha seat, Geeta Kora will face the elections for the Congress party. From Lohardaga seat Sukhdev Bhagat will fight for the party. A total of 163 ( 68 per cent) out of the 241 winners in the Bihar Assembly polls have declared criminal cases against themselves in the poll affidavits, with <keyword id="42678" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="RJD">RJD</keyword> topping the list with around 73 per cent, Bihar Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) said. Of the 163 MLA-elects, 123 (51 per cent of total affidavits analysed) have serious criminal cases pending against them, including those related to murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and crimes against women. In the 2015 Assembly elections, 142 (58 per cent) MLAs had self-declared such cases against them in their affidavits. This time, the ADR had analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 241 of the 243 victorious candidates. The ADR did not say anything on such details of remaining winners. The results of the three-phase elections were declared on Wednesday early morning after counting that went on for over 20 hours. Out of the 123 winners, 19 have murder cases, 31 attempt to murder and eight crimes against women against their names. Among the major parties, 54 (73 per cent) of the 74 winners from Tejashwi Yadav-led <keyword id="123786" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rashtriya-Janata-Dal">Rashtriya Janata Dal</keyword> (RJD) have pending criminal cases, followed by 47 (64 per cent) out of 73 from BJP, 20 (47 per cent) out of 43 from Janata Dal-United, 16 (84 per cent) out of 19 from Congress, 10 (83 per cent) out of 12 from Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist Liberation, and five (100 per cent) out of 5 from Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. A total of 44 (60 per cent) out of 74 RJD winners, 35 (48 per cent) out of 73 from BJP, 11 (26 per cent) out of 43 from JD-U, 11 (58 per cent) out of 19 from Congress, eight (67 per cent) out of 12 from CPI-MLL and 5 (100 per cent) out of 5 from AIMIM have serious criminal cases pending against them. Who is likely to win the election? The total number of seats in Jharkhand assembly is 81 and therefore the winning coalition needs at least 41 seats to be undisputed in government formation. As seen in the Maharashtra election, the BJP, which is in power in Jharkhand since 2014, is likely to be the single-largest party with maximum seats in the state assembly, according to a C-Voter survey put out by IANS. However, it may not have the majority and so, it will need allies.  3. What are the key issues for the voters in the Jharkhand state election? Jharkhand has what is called the 'resource curse' globally. Across the world from Africa to Pakistan to Papua New Guinea, places that are rich in minerals and other natural resources have most of its people suffering from back-breaking poverty. Jharkhand has been no different for many decades until recently. Between 2005-06 and 2015-16, the state lifted millions of people from poverty — the multidimensional poverty reduced to 46.5% from 74.9%, according to a United Nations Report this year — but it still remains one of India's poorest states on many counts. Therefore, "Around 25% eligible voters said employment and matters related to doing business were the most important for them in this election," the C-Voter survey that spoke to nearly 9,000 voters said. The slow implementation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA), which promised to recognise the land rights of forest dwellers, has <a href="https://www.indiaspend.com/in-jharkhand-forest-rights-could-decide-votes-in-77-assembly-seats/" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">reportedly</a> led to dissatisfaction in 62 of the 81 assembly constituencies. That's 77% of the constituencies where voters are angry with the current government, an <a href="https://www.indiaspend.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Revised-AC-State-Brief-of-Jharkhand-converted.pdf">analysis</a> by an independent research group has concluded. 4. Are people happy with the current government in Jharkhand? A broad answer will be 'No', if the C-Voter survey is to be believed. As many as 60% of the 9,000 respondents said they wanted a new Chief Minister immediately. Just as many people were unhappy with their local legislator too. However, most people still believe BJP is the best equipped to solve their problems.  So, while the Chief Minister (CM), Raghubar Das, is losing ground, his party, the BJP, is not. But the BJP has continued to back him as the CM for this election. 5. Tune into any bit of news these days, and you’re bound to come across the <keyword id="19978984" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="neet" source="keywords">NEET</keyword> controversy. With allegations of <keyword id="20118897" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bribery" source="keywords">bribery</keyword>, paper leaks and a dozen other crimes making for some murky water ahead for India’s future medical aspirations, there is no wonder the <keyword id="20039944" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="scam" source="keywords">scam</keyword> has been plastered all over the news cycle over the past week. NEET, which stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, is a mandatory test a student must attempt if they wish to pursue <keyword id="21099893" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="medical-courses" source="keywords">medical courses</keyword> in India and abroad. This extremely competitive exam is conducted once a year by the National Testing Agency (<keyword id="19985628" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NTA" source="keywords">NTA</keyword>) in different locations all over the country, where students can score between -180 and 720 marks. Nearly 24 lakh aspirants participated from 4,750 centres this year. Further, many centres had faced several exam disruptions, which could have placed certain students at a disadvantage. Further probing revealed that six of these 2024 first-rankers were from a single centre in Haryana, making for some highly unlikely coincidences. In addition, some students had scored 718 and 719 marks, which was pointed out to be mathematically impossible as per NEET’s grading systems. These individuals led the police to a meeting place where around 30 candidates had allegedly gathered to memorise leaked questions and answers. A top source from Bihar’s Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) — to whom the investigation was later handed over to — explained that such a practice might be happening nationwide. These papers were found burnt at an individual’s flat, who later confessed to the crime. "Photocopies of the question papers were given to the candidates and they were told to memorise the answers. In a confession statement, the prime accused admitted that they demanded between Rs 30-32 lakhs from each student, with the intermediate charging around Rs 40 lakh from each aspirant. The EOU makes many dozens more arrests. The Mukhiya gang procured the papers from a private school in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, as per the police report. "The gang had been plotting this for several months and it was a professor from Hazaribagh who had sent the question papers to Sanjeev using WhatsApp. Later, with the help of medical students from Patna and Ranchi, the paper was solved," explained a top official to ToI. Photocopied versions of the paper were given to around 30 candidates staying at a “safe house” in Patna. "The investigative agencies are not arresting Mukhiya because of his political connections. I will expose his pictures with politicians in the time to come," he told reporters. The RJD has also released a photo of Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary with Amit Anand. And they seem to have picked Singh's saffron over Kumar's red. As of 9:50 am, Giriraj Singh was ahead with 51% of the votes counted while Kanhaiya Kumar had half the number of votes as his rival from BJP. In the third spot is Tanveer Hasan of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which is in alliance with the Congress in the state of Bihar. The voter turnout this time was at 61.27% that is 2% more than five years ago when the BJP candidate Bhola Singh bagged the seat with a margin of 58,000 votes. Kanhaiya Kumar shot to national fame when the cops in Delhi arrested him and his friends from the Jawaharlal Nehru University for alleged anti-national activities in 2016. However, it has to be said that in the particular case of Begusarai, both RJD and CPI(M) resonate among Muslim voters, people from the Yadav community, as well as those from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes of the region. Further, Kumar and Hasan are pitted against a veteran politician and a minister in the central government, Giriraj Singh, who is riding on Modi’s charm much like many other BJP candidates across the country.
