Get Your <keyword id="6362088" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="kick">Kick</keyword> This Eid, yells the movie poster and sure enough, it has never been this good for a <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> release in 2014. <keyword id="1470620" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="superstar-Salman-Khan">Superstar Salman Khan</keyword> is back with Kick, his second venture of the current year, and the action-drama raced past his earlier outing <keyword id="6593120" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jai-Ho">Jai Ho</keyword> (opening weekend collection Rs 58.50 crore at home). Released on July 25, the Salman Khan-Jacqueline Fernandez-starrer netted a mammoth Rs 83.83 crore at the <keyword id="827271" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Domestic-Box-Office">domestic box office</keyword> in the first three days (trade figure stood at Rs 82.01 crore) and is expected to hit the Rs 100 crore mark on Day 5 (July 29) at home. 
 
“Kick has a SPECTACULAR weekend. Fri 26.50 cr, Sat 27.15 cr, Sun 30.18 cr. Total: Rs 83.83 cr nett. India biz. REMARKABLE,” tweeted film critic and analyst Taran Adarsh. This is the highest opening day collection in 2014, but Kick failed to beat the debut day records of <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword>’s <keyword id="24705" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Dhoom-3">Dhoom 3</keyword> (Rs 36 crore), <keyword id="4546" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shah-Rukh">Shah Rukh</keyword>’s Chennai Express (Rs 33.10 crore) and Salman’s own <keyword id="638019" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ek-Tha-Tiger">Ek Tha Tiger</keyword> (Rs 32.92 crore). Neither could it beat Dhoom 3’s record of entering the Rs 100 crore club in just three days. Interestingly, Salman’s Ek Tha Tiger entered the 100 crore club in the first weekend. 
 Although first Monday collections saw a huge 50% drop in earnings (compared to Sunday) at the domestic <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword>, the movie collected around Rs 13.5 crore as per industry estimates, taking Kick’s four-day total to Rs 97.3 crore (approx.). The flick has also done some good business overseas and grossed around Rs 22 crore at the end of Day 4. “Kick is excellent in USA-Canada and has performed well elsewhere. The business will get a further boost once the Eid festivities begin,” said Adarsh in another tweet. 
 
With Kick hitting the 100 crore mark globally, Salman now has seven <keyword id="2448807" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="100-crore-grossers">100 crore grossers</keyword> to his credit. The earlier six include Ek Tha Tiger, <keyword id="35445" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="bodyguard">Bodyguard</keyword>, <keyword id="94964" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Dabangg">Dabangg</keyword> and Dabangg2, <keyword id="18142" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ready">Ready</keyword> and Jai Ho. As for the opening weekend, Kick is the fourth highest grosser of all time – after Dhoom 3 (Rs 107 crore), Chennai Express (100.35 crore) and Ek Tha Tiger (Rs 116.05 crore). Although <keyword id="95158" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="RA-One">Ra.One</keyword> (Rs 91.10 crore) and Bodyguard (Rs 86.10 crore) had earned more than Kick, both movies had a 5-day weekend.

Kick hit more than 5,000 screens in India and 42 other countries, and had a whopping budget of Rs 125 crore. Devil, aka Devil Lal Singh (<keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword>), is initially drawn to Shaina (<keyword id="6354417" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jacqueline-Fernandez">Jacqueline Fernandez</keyword>), a <keyword id="33876" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="psychiatrist">psychiatrist</keyword> living in <keyword id="47414" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Poland">Poland</keyword>, as she manages to give him enough kick on the love front. The chemistry between the two is quite enjoyable while you have a <keyword id="1476042" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="super-cop">super cop</keyword> in <keyword id="45913" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Himanshu">Himanshu</keyword> (<keyword id="16675" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Randeep-Hooda">Randeep Hooda</keyword>), trying to decode some challenging robberies masterminded by Devil (reminds you of Dhoom 3?), and a creepy villain in <keyword id="2448803" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shiv-Gazra">Shiv Gazra</keyword> (<keyword id="6359106" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nawazuddin-Siddiqui">Nawazuddin Siddiqui</keyword>). The rest is usual Bollywood histrionics – right from accident to memory loss to melodrama and finally, a predictable climax without an ounce of surprise. But you would better forget the logic and the coherence part. The best thing that happened to this movie is Salman Khan (and the supporting cast) who sizzled all the way with devilish humour, sleek action and smooth romance.

Framestore earlier made a major investment in Jesh Krishna Murthy’s VFX Studio, Anibrain, in 2017. “Mumbai has become a centre of excellence in digital filmmaking. There’s a depth of talent that can deliver to the scale of Hollywood with the colour and flair of <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword>.In terms of visual effects, we will set the standard here as we did in Montreal almost eight years ago,” said Framestore’s founder and CEO, Sir William Sargent. But Framestore isn’t the first global company to turn to India. In 2018, global animation studio Dreamworks partnered with Technicolor to open DreamWorks Dedicated Unit, Technicolor India (DDU) in Bengaluru. And there is a reason why these companies are coming to India.  “The VFX segment in FY19 saw stereo scoping work flowing to India from international markets and a rise in VFX demand, not just from Hindi movies, but even from South Indian films,” said the report. The South Indian industry which produces a large number of fantasy movies, is early to catch on to this trend. Hyderabad-based Firefly studios was the frontrunner for Baahubali’s visual effects. The city is home to many other such studios like Makuta Studios, which won National Awards for its work in Magadheera and Eega, and also Green Gold Animation which has gained worldwide recognition for its animation series Chhota Bheem. In fact, the Telangana government is also setting up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for gaming, visual effects and animation. Meanwhile in Bengaluru, startups like MRT Studios, Thought Cloud Studios, Videogyan, and Om Studio are making noise with their VFX work in Kannada films. Unlike South India, visual effects has not yet seen a massive uptake in Bollywood -- although it is used massively for films like Fan, Ra.One etc. Ayan Mukherjee’s next with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt titled Brahmastra is slated to be India’s biggest VFX superhero movie. But a superhero movie's tie up with brands would definitely be at par with it superpower. As per a news report by The Economic Times, Hollywood superhero film 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' has emerged as the most-marketed movie in India, tying up with 50 brands for promotions, double the number of brand associations Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Ra.One had inked. The sequel to <keyword id="319257" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="The-Avengers">The Avengers</keyword>, the highest-grossing Hollywood film so far, expects to earn Rs 120 crore in retail sales from tie-ups with brands including Pepsi-Co's <keyword id="6439698" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="mountain">Mountain</keyword> Dew, Funskool and Pantaloons, said a person involved in the marketing deals. Till now Ra.One, which raked in Rs 50 crore from product placements with 25 brand associations, has been the most marketed movie in India. 
 
The difference in marketability between Hollywood and Bollywood films has blurred, thanks to various English movie channels. "Brands partnering with Avengers are leveraging on its popularity in India, with the Indian audience showing similar preferences as global ones. This is a record brand association for any Hollywood film in the country," Abhishek Maheshwari, VP and head at Disney Consumer Products told the ET.

Hindi cinema has a lot to offer to the world. There is no other film industry in the world offers a full-fledged package of romance, drama, action, comedy, songs and dance in a single film, stars some of the world’s best-known faces, and rakes in millions in the form of box office collections.

While many big-budget movies have brushed with this concept, like the Krrish series, Ra.One and the least famous one being Drona, it’s sad to state that they are nowhere close to their Hollywood counterparts in handling the fantasy genre with ease. 
 
While India is home to several comic superheroes like Nagraj, Dhruv, Tiranga and Doga, the cinematic part is left untouched by magical hands that can uplift the stand that Bollywood superhero films can hold in international galleries. When we look at Hollywood, superheroes like Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Ironman and the rest of Avengers enjoy a cult fan following in the whole world, and financially, the movies do very well, while the market for Indian superhero films is limited to Southeastern Asia. 
 
Even in India, sensible cinephiles refrain from watching these Bollywood superhero movies, and rely on Friday releases and channels like Star World to air international movies of the same genre. The reason, one might say, is that in Bollywood, even the superheroes have to sing songs in their free time, when they are not running on water or dodging bullets with their hands. 
 
Talking of the genre, both Bollywood and Hollywood love the idea of superheroes showing off their superpowers or mean machines while saving humanity from some impending troubles. However, what Hollywood shows is far different from our in-house movies, because while their superheroes are majorly protectors of earth, our superheroes have a lot of family drama to deal with before they can think of saving people. 
 
With the poster of the upcoming movie <keyword id="3116790" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="The-Flying-Jatt">The Flying Jatt</keyword>, starring <keyword id="133664" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tiger-Shroff">Tiger Shroff</keyword> as a desi superhero, released yesterday, we are sure that the path to perfection is far from being paved. Tiger Shroff, one of Bollywood’s most ‘in-shape’ actors, wears a blue and yellow costume, with a large insignia of the Sikh religion pasted on his chest, signifying that the movie would also touch religious angles; yet again falling for the demands of a particular section of society rather than trying something new to cater to the emerging, more sensible class of Indian audience. 
 
This exactly might be the saving grace for Indian filmmakers; that the Indian audience is not yet completely ready to accept great superhero films, and are happy and content with what gets served to them in the form of international movies. This is because a majority of Indian audience still likes to whistle when a superhero saves a school bus from drowning, which sadly is not the case in Hollywood superheroes who merely fight with aliens and scientific geniuses.

Known to have a knack for business, Khan has many a times proved himself to be an even better businessman than an actor. Here are some instances when the world admired the businessman Shah Rukh more than the actor Shah Rukh. 
 
1. When he promised himself that he would rule Mumbai, and went ahead to do much more than that. When Shah Rukh Khan was struggling to find a foot in the film industry, he had told his friend Benny Thomas that he would rule Mumbai one day, and the determinant businessman that he is, he went on to rule not just the city or the country but almost the entire world. 
 
2. When he co-founded his film production company Dreamz Unlimited, just years after being in the industry. It was barely 7 years since he had stepped into the industry when Khan co-founded Dreamz Unlimited, the company that produced three of Shah Rukh’s films before being dissolved. These films were Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Asoka and Chalte Chalte. Having the confidence to produce big budget movies after spending a little time in the industry proved to the world that Shah Rukh Khan was not just an actor but also an inherent businessman. 
 
3. When he transformed Dreamz Unlimited into Red Chillies Entertainment, which became one of India’s biggest production houses. After the success of Chalte Chalte, Shah Rukh realized that he could do much more with film production than just being a part of the team. He then took over Dreamz Unlimited and transformed it into Red Chillies Entertainment, which went on to become one of the biggest and most successful film production houses in India. 
 
4. When he forayed into other facets of production, and proved to be the best yet again. Not many people know that India’s biggest Visual Effects Studios is owned by Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan. Christened as Red Chillies VFX, the unit handles the special effects of all his home productions and of some other movies as well. The company has won a National Award for its special effects for the 2011 movie Ra.One. He also produces television commercials for various global brands, a strategic move which was much ahead of its time. 
 
5. When he stepped into sports, for cricket and much more. We all know that Kolkata Knight Riders is co-owned by Shah Rukh Khan, but did you know that KKR is the richest and the most financially successful IPL team? Reports suggest that to bring financial stability, Shah Rukh made sure that the money he got from the appearances he did for IPL went into the account of his team. He also planned for KKR merchandise, which sold like free cakes, all thanks to his stardom and strategic moves. Other than cricket, he also owns a racing team in the i1 Super Series and plans to buy a football team, areas where he would get the first-mover advantage.
