In Instagram stories, Veronica Wang, who has 1.73 million YouTube subscribers, called Democrats "demons" and baselessly accused the party at large of pedophilia and child trafficking. </p><p>QAnon is a big-tent conspiracy theory based on the false notion that President Donald Trump is trying to defeat a "deep state" cabal of satanic pedophiles and child traffickers. The conspiracy theory has gained popularity during the pandemic and has become popular in some circles of influencers, particularly <a href="https://www.insider.com/lifestyle-influencers-using-covid-19-to-spread-qanon-conspiracy-theory-2020-5">lifestlye and wellness bloggers</a>. </p><p>Screenshots of the stories, which are no longer available on Wang's Instagram, were posted on Twitter by Dennis Feitosa, who runs the <a href="https://twitter.com/defnoodles">Def Noodles</a> influencer news account. The stories appeared to be from over the weekend, when commenters on Wang's latest post began criticizing her. </p><p>Wang, who has 197,000 Instagram followers, didn't explicitly cite QAnon, but the claims come directly from the conspiracy theory movement. Wang is known for <a href="https://www.insider.com/mukbang-video-the-extreme-eating-trend-making-youtube-rich-2020-2">mukbangs</a>, which are extreme-eating videos. She did not immediately respond to a request for comment.</p><p>In her Instagram stories, Wang made the false accusations that "satanic Democrats" were "sacrificing children, aborting and selling last trimester babies, and raping kids." Wang added that while she doesn't like Trump, she does not believe that he is "sacrificing" children. </p><p>In a later story, Wang said she was not against abortions, but attacked Planned Parenthood using deceptive smears that were largely <a href="https://rewirenewsgroup.com/article/2020/09/29/how-dangerous-conspiracy-theories-like-qanon-find-a-home-in-anti-choice-politics/">debunked</a> by a congressional investigation from the <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/planned-parenthood-fact-v-fiction">House Committee on Oversight and Reform</a>.</p><p>In another story, she posted clips from a video promoting wild <keyword id="1379614" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="conspiracy-theories">conspiracy theories</keyword> about Joe and <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/10/smears-against-biden-dont-need-make-any-sense/616824/">Hunter Biden.</a></p><p>Wang also compared Biden to Anthony Weiner, the disgraced former congressman and convicted sex offender, who is believed by conspiracy theorists to have had a laptop with a video dubbed "<a href="https://www.vox.com/technology/2018/12/12/18136132/google-youtube-congress-conspiracy-theories">Frazzledrip."</a> The video does not exist, but QAnon conspiracy theorists continue to believe without evidence that there is a video showing Clinton and her longtime aide Huma Abedin (Weiner's ex-wife) ripping off and wearing a child's face before drinking his blood. Wang said Weiner's laptop contained a video of "killery," a nickname for Hillary Clinton, "slicing a child's face off and wearing it." </p><p>Facebook, which owns Instagram, has made steps to curb the spread of the theory on their platforms, announcing a company-wide <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/qanon-banned-from-facebook-dealing-massive-blow-to-conspiracy-group-2020-10">ban</a> on the conspiracy theory and its rhetoric. But Wang's QAnon beliefs were mostly spread via stories, which automatically disappear after 24 hours, and went untouched by the platform. An Instagram representative told Insider that while Wang's account did not meet criteria for removal, the platform will not recommend her content to new users who don't follow her through the Explore page and hashtag pages. </p><p>On Wang's latest Instagram, which she posted on Friday, the comments are full of people criticizing her for the QAnon-related rhetoric. "Didn't know you were a Q anon supporter. I'm so disappointed," wrote one commenter on Saturday. "I've been a big fan of yours for years but to see you post crazy conspiracy theories and lies has me super disappointed. I am no longer a fan and will be unfollowing," said one Monday comment. "Girl! You have officially lost it," said another. </p><p>In response to a commenter saying that she was unfollowing in light of the QAnon stories, Wang said, "GOOD I DONT SUPPORT PEDOPHILES." Accusing perceived enemies of pedophilia is part of what has made QAnon hard to stop. Even President Trump said in a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-praises-refuses-to-condemn-qanon-at-nbc-town-hall-2020-10">town hall event</a> in October that QAnon was simply "against pedophilia." In reality, though, human trafficking organizations and experts have <a href="https://www.insider.com/anti-trafficking-organizations-denounce-qanon-open-letter-2020-10">repeatedly said</a> that the movement has a dangerous misunderstanding of trafficking. </p><p>QAnon's recent and rapid rise comes as the movement's incendiary theories have been linked to <a href="https://www.insider.com/qanon-violence-crime-conspiracy-theory-us-allegation-arrest-killing-gun-2020-8">several violent crimes</a>, including murders, as well as attempted kidnappings. Fans of a popular extreme-eating YouTuber were disturbed after she posted QAnon conspiracy theories

<ul class="summary-list"><li>"Hacktivist" collective <keyword id="169875" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="anonymous">Anonymous</keyword> has burst back into public consciousness after a Facebook account purporting to be affiliated with the group published a video calling out the Minneapolis Police Department on May 28.</li><li>Since then, people are attributing events like the Minneapolis Police Department's website temporarily going down to Anonymous. In certain cases, like with the Minneapolis police website, accounts affiliated with the group appeared to take responsibility. </li><li>People have also begun to make Anonymous <keyword id="1605152" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Memes">memes</keyword> and fancams in light of the collective's renewed fame.</li></ul><p>On May 28, a familiar figure in a Guy Fawkes mask broke back into public digital consciousness. By all accounts it seemed like hacktivist group Anonymous was back: a video posted on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/anonews.co/">a Facebook page with approximately 11 million followers</a> that appears to be affiliated with Anonymous brought about what <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-52879000">many heralded</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/14wardi/status/1267151762693279744?s=20">as the return of the group</a>. Per the video, Anonymous has re-emerged amid protests that followed the killing of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis.</p><p>Anonymous is a "hacktivist" collective that emerged out of 4chan in the early 2000s. <a href="https://www.wired.com/2011/11/anonymous-101/">Per Wired</a>, the group would conduct "raids" that ranged from <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/telegram-blames-ddos-attack-on-china-2019-6">distributed-denial-of-service attacks</a> to <a href="https://www.insider.com/westworld-reddit-rick-roll-video-spoilers-2018-4">rickrolling</a> people. Wired reports that the group gained a political consciousness while going after the Church of Scientology. Since then, it's gained a reputation for targeting those who misuse power, although the group is decentralized and has no distinguishable command structure — its tagline is "we are legion."</p><p>Now, Anonymous appears to have directly addressed the Minneapolis Police Department. In the video, the Anonymous speaker says, "Police brutality and murder is a widespread problem in the United States, which has undoubtedly infected nearly every jurisdiction in the country. But the Minneapolis Police Department is among the worst and has a horrific track record of violence and corruption." </p><p>The speaker goes on to call for the four officers involved in Floyd's killing to face charges, and for Derek Chauvin, the officer who knelt on Floyd's neck for approximately eight minutes, to face murder charges. Chavuin will <a href="https://www.insider.com/four-minneapolis-police-officers-criminal-charges-george-floyd-death-2020-6">reportedly face second-degree murder charges</a>, and the other three officers will reportedly be charged with aiding and abetting murder.</p><p>The video quickly circulated on social media: it currently has approximately 3.6 million views on Facebook; one tweet featuring a portion of the video currently has approximately 1 million likes.</p><h2><strong>An </strong><strong>Anonymous-affiliated account claimed responsibility for taking down the </strong><strong>Minneapolis Police Department's website </strong><strong><br /></strong></h2><p>On Saturday, May 30, the Minneapolis Police Department website, as well as the City of Minneapolis website, appeared to become unavailable as <a href="https://twitter.com/BrennaBelletti/status/1266951042542886912?s=20">people tweeted</a> about not being able to access them. <a href="https://variety.com/2020/digital/news/anonymous-hackers-minneapolis-police-department-website-george-floyd-1234621332/">Per Variety</a>, access to both sites on Sunday was still shaky, with the sites requiring visitors to verify that they weren't bots via captcha using a front-end hosted by Cloudflare, an internet security firm. Variety reports that the captcha verification was a signal that the sites were sustaining a DDoS — distributed denial of service — attack, which overwhelms sites with traffic.<strong> </strong></p><p>On May 30, people on Twitter quickly connected the Anonymous video and the presumed DDoS attack, heralding Anonymous as having taken down the site. </p><p>On May 31, an Anonymous-affiliated Twitter account attributed the website takedown among other things to the group. </p><p><a href="https://www.dailydot.com/debug/anonymous-chicago-cops-radios-fck-tha-police/?fb=dd">As The Daily Dot reported</a>, reports <a href="https://twitter.com/chloehrubin/status/1266912864226459648?s=20">also emerged on Twitter</a> on May 30 that someone had gotten access to police radio in Chicago and were playing N.W.A.'s "Fuck Tha Police." People were <a href="https://twitter.com/Mayorzy_/status/1267094777457192960?s=20">quick to claim that Anonymous was behind the act</a>.</p><p>Then, word circulated online that Anonymous had leaked the email addresses and passwords of Minneapolis Police, although <a href="https://www.troyhunt.com/analysing-the-alleged-minneapolis-police-department-hack/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TroyHunt+%28Troy+Hunt%29+Hunt%29">security researcher Troy Hunt found</a> that 95% of the data had already been leaked in previous breaches. Then, <a href="https://twitter.com/ChrisKlemens/status/1267105408226693120?s=20">tweets circulated that claimed that Anonymous had leaked documents</a> that allegedly showed that President Trump had been "involved in child rape and sex trafficking with Jeffrey Epstein" (<a href="https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/wxq5mm/anonymous-minneapolis-george-floyd-protests">Vice reported</a> that the documents in question were old and had previously been debunked). There's <a href="https://twitter.com/GersonNickiy/status/1267209331063296008?s=20">also been unconfirmed chatter</a> about Anonymous <a href="https://twitter.com/joyce36461668/status/1267326557359661059?s=20">exposing the "truth"</a> behind the death of Princess Diana.</p><p>Of course, even with the Anonymous-affiliated Twitter account claiming responsibility from some of these acts, none have actually been connected to the group in a tangible way. </p><h2><strong>There are a number of Twitter accounts that claim to be associated with Anonymous</strong></h2><p>Anonymous doesn't appear to have a central, official social media account given the fact that it doesn't have central leadership. Rather, there is a loose collection of accounts claiming to be tied to Anonymous that gained an increasing amount of attention and scrutiny in the days since the video addressing the Minneapolis PD began circulating online.</p><p>One of the most popular Anonymous-branded accounts on Twitter, <a href="https://twitter.com/YourAnonCentral">@YourAnonCentral</a>, paradoxically has both "Official #Anonymous" and "There are no official accounts" in its bio. The account, which has approximately 5.8 million followers, joined Twitter in Sep. 2011; it has recently sustained accusations on Twitter for <a href="https://twitter.com/kellylcouncil/status/1267018011048845314?s=20">being a "fake" Anonymous account</a> and <a href="https://twitter.com/ejknoodles/status/1267161384284012544?s=20">people are circulating screenshots</a> of tweets reportedly from the account (at least some appear to have been deleted) containing transphobic rhetoric. Other anonymous accounts include <a href="https://twitter.com/AnonPress">@AnonPress</a> (joined Dec. 2010, approx. 250,000 followers), <a href="https://twitter.com/AnonymousPress">@AnonymousPress</a> (joined Dec. 2010, approx. 591,000 followers), and <a href="https://twitter.com/AnonyOps">@AnonyOps</a> (joined Dec. 2010, approx. 636,000 followers), among others. </p><p>The most popular account claiming to be affiliated with Anonymous is <a href="https://twitter.com/YourAnonNews">@YourAnonCentral</a>, which joined Twitter in April 2011 and currently has 7.1 million followers. 'Hacktivist' group Anonymous is experiencing renewed internet fame after a widely circulated video calling out the Minneapolis Police Department

<p>Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Monday attacked former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) through the release of an Instagram video that targeted Bush&#xa0;on immigration.</p><p><a href="https://instagram.com/p/7DdvbEmhWG/?taken-by=realdonaldtrump">Trump posted a video to his Instagram account</a>&#xa0;that spliced together images of alleged murders&#xa0;committed by immigrants&#xa0;living in the US without permission&#xa0;with Bush's comments in 2014 that&#xa0;many immigrants illegally come into the&#xa0;US out of an "act of love" for their families.&#xa0;</p><p><div></div></p><p>The Bush campaign immediately shot back at Trump, accusing him of in the past supporting "liberal, soft-on-crime politicians." It blasted Trump's&#xa0;immigration plan, which it said would "violate the constitution."</p><p>"Jeb Bush has a record of cracking down on violent criminals as Governor of Florida, while Donald Trump has up until it was convenient supported liberal, soft-on-crime politicians," Bush spokesperson Kristy Campbell told Business Insider. "His immigration plan is not conservative, would violate the constitution and cost hundreds of billions of dollars, which he will likely attempt to pay for through with massive tax hikes."</p><p>Bush made the "act of love" comment during an April 2014 event. He said immigrants who illegally crossed into the US "<span>because they had no other means to work to be able to provide for their family" should be treated differently than immigrants, for example, who overstay their visas.</span></p><p><span>Here's the fuller context of those 2014 remarks:</span></p><p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span><span>"There are means by which we can control our border better than we have. And there should be penalties for breaking the law But the way I look at this - and I'm going to say this, and it'll be on tape and so be it. The way I look at this is someone who comes to our country because they couldn't come legally, they come to our country because their families - the dad who loved their children - was worried that their children didn't have food on the table. And they wanted to make sure their family was intact, and they crossed the border because they had no other means to work to be able to provide for their family. Yes, they broke the law, but it's not a felony. It's an act of love. It's an act of commitment to your family. I honestly think that that is a different kind of crime that there should be a price paid, but it shouldn't rile people up that people are actually coming to this country to provide for their families."</span></span></p><p>Some political observers noted that&#xa0;Trump's ad employed some of the same visual tropes that Bush's father, former President George H.W. Bush, used to attack Democratic opponent Michael Dukakis during the 1988 presidential campaign.</p><p>In the famous "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Io9KMSSEZ0Y">Willie Horton</a>" ad, a political action committee aligned with Bush accused Dukakis of being soft on crime during his tenure in Massachusetts. Horton, a convicted felon, had been released from a Massachusetts prison on a weekend furlough program, during which time he escaped and raped a woman.&#xa0;<a href="http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/the-legacy-the-willie-horton-ad-lives">The ad was credited with raising fears</a>&#xa0;about Dukakis' record, though critics suggested it was racially motivated.</p><p><div></div></p><p class="embed-spacer">&#xa0;<div></div></p><p class="embed-spacer">&#xa0;<div></div></p><p class="embed-spacer">Trump has recently taken to Instagram to&#xa0;hit his opponents with simple attack ads. And Bush has been a favorite target.</p><p>Last week, Trump released a video showing a portion of a&#xa0;2013 interview with former First Lady Barbara Bush.
