<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mahesh+Bhalla&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Mahesh Bhalla</a>, head of business development in of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Uber+India&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Uber India</a>, has quit just after four months of his stint in the taxi-hailing company. This is pegged as the first big exit since Uber started building a corporate team in India. 
 
Bhalla joined Uber in May when he left <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Qwikcilver&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Qwikcilver</a>, a gifting card solutions company. Bhalla served as the president in <keyword id="1885090" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Qwikcilver">Qwikcilver</keyword> for nearly two years. Before, he worked for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Dell&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Dell</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Samsung&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Samsung</a>. Bhalla was the executive director of <keyword id="28251" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dell">Dell</keyword>'s consumer and small &amp; medium business in India, where he was the architect of its consumer strategy. 
 
Bhalla’s exit from Uber was confirmed by his <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LinkedIn&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">LinkedIn</a> profile, which says that he left the company in August. 
 India is one of the few markets where Uber has decided to appoint a country head. Since last year the <keyword id="12161" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="San-Francisco">San Francisco</keyword> based company has started bulding a local team regardless of Uber being known for its lean global expansion, with teams of just 3-4 executives in each city and using its global technology. 
 “In July 2015, Uber committed to invest $1 billion in India, a mark that could surpass either the US or China,” company's founder <keyword id="1739133" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Travis-Kalanick">Travis Kalanick</keyword> said.

The margin from payments as a category has been shrinking for all players and Pine Labs wants to shore it up as it prepares to go public. “For us, it (BNPL) is a crown jewel of Pine Labs,” said Mehra. “BNPL would become one of the most dominant, significant business drivers for us, and it already is,” he said. The jury is out on the other big bet i.e., adding retail customers via Fave because the acquisition happened only in April. “The first step towards our journey to really build out the B2C [business-to-consumer] story is on the back of our partnership with Fave. We've just done a quick pilot launch in India,” said Mehra. Through Fave, the company looks to start by offering discounts and gift coupons on making payments at merchant outlets, and then gradually expand its offerings to retail customers. But the focus of the company, he said, would be to continue building merchant-centric solutions and scaling them up. “At the same time, all these new areas that we have started focusing on and we just spoke about the B2C story, would also become very significant contributors in our success in the near future,” he said. Pine Labs turned profitable in the financial year ending March 2017, but swung back to losses for three consecutive years up to 2020. Nearly as old as Google, Pine Labs is betting on these two segments to make it worth $6 billion

Many of us know Mahindra for its technology and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Mahindras-Scorpio-is-thehighest-selling-SUV-ever-in-India/articleshow/47232527.cms">automobile</a>, but the group is planning to open an eCommerce portal soon! The company has brought on board angel investor and former CEO of Askme.com, Jaspreet Bindra who would strategize how the automobile maker can tap technology for business growth. 
 
Bindra, who has been appointed as the Group Senior Vice President for Digital Innovation and Ecommerce, in mid July will drive automation and implement digital technologies across the group. 
 
A source with knowledge of the matter told Economic Times, "He will be expected to drive digital but also craft an ecommerce strategy. The group had been looking to put an ecommerce framework in the past six months. This will mainly be for auto division, two-wheeler and other consumer-facing businesses.” 
 
While spearheading Mahindra Group’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/eCommerce-industry-is-wooing-merchants-Heres-how/articleshow/48017395.cms?from=mdr">eCommerce</a> plans, Bindra would be leveraging the first-hand experience he got of eCommerce while he co-founded Bazee.com, one of India's first ecommerce portals, which was later acquired by ebay after its founder. 
"Bindra would be building a centralised team, which will then work with different group companies to drive digital transformation. It could be at a product level, at a process level also - making internal operations more digital and getting in automation. It would also be at a marketing level," a second source told the ET. 
The Mahindra Group confirmed Bindra's appointment to the ET, but refused to share further details, saying it is still in early days. Bindra is also clued into the country's startup ecosystem --he has seed funded many startups like Wooplr, a fashion discovery app, and Storyxpress, an algorithmic video company. 
 
He has also mentored Mapmygenome, a molecular diagnostics startup and Qwikcilver, a gift card company, among others. Experts said that to make large companies more nimble, it makes sense to drive it at the group level. 
 
At a time when country's large industrial conglomerates are looking at technology more seriously, Mahindra seems to have pulled the lever at the right time. Online shoppers have another reason to be happy. <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>.com, one of the leading e-tailers in India, will soon begin another of its online sale, <keyword id="2591850" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Snapdeal-Savings-Day">Snapdeal Savings Day</keyword>, on November 11, 2014. The online marketplace has announced ‘exciting offers’ for every hour on Tuesday, as well as huge discounts on over 500 product categories including lifestyle products, apparel, gadgets and consumer durables among others. 
	 
	The sale is expected to start at 7:00 am in the morning and will be live till midnight. Expecting a massive turnout on the website for the sale, the online shopping site has also tied up with multiple banks, which includes Standard Chartered and HDFC Bank, to make cash back offers. 
	 
	Interestingly, the website had first come out with Snapdeal Savings Day earlier this year on April 22, 2014. The sale was offered for the products in their fashion category with 40% discounts on purchases above Rs 1,999. This was followed by another Savings Day sale on May 7, 2014 for categories such as Home Décor, Kitchen, Furnishing and Furniture. The website offered 35% on the products belonging to this category. 
	 
	On witnessing the success of the sale, Snapdeal came up with its third Savings Day sale on May 15, 2014. This time, the company had extended its Savings Day sale offer on personal gadgets including mobiles, tablets, cameras, personal care appliances and gaming consoles among others. Soon after, the fourth Savings Day sale was offered on May 22, 2014, which recorded an unprecedented traffic on the website. The enormous success of the sale forced the e-tailer to come up with its fifth Savings Day sale in June on its fashion categories. 
	 However, this time, the Savings Day sale will clash with <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword>’s Appiness Day. It’s a contest wherein users are first required to download the application, and then register for the Appiness Day contest. Users can register for the contest between November 7, 2014 and November 10, 2014. For those who have missed out, one can enter the contest by buying a product through Amazon app, which will automatically enroll the shopper into random draw of lots. 
	 
	The website revealed that following the registration, 11 participants will be randomly selected to be eligible to win an Amazon.in e-Gift Card worth Rs 1,21,000 each as 'consolation prize', issued by QwikCilver Solutions Private Limited. However, to win the contest, the selected users will have to answer a qualifying question correctly, within a given time period, which would be communicated to the selected participants by Amazon.

“Consumers are already freer than a few years ago. This method of payment gives them the first step to get over their anxieties of electronic payments”, Pratap observes. 
 
So what’s the way forward for Woohoo? 
 
“There are more currencies coming up, and the option of using credit/debit card for gifting. We’re looking to have 15,000-20,000 brands including Amazon, Snapdeal and Café Coffee Day onboard over the next six months”, Pratap says. 
 
In a country that salivates for discounts and prides itself in striking a bargain, if you don’t mind your money being tied up in an online wallet, you can now spoil yourself with indulgences minus the guilt of blowing more cash.
