While UPI has made payments easier, scammers have also kept abreast with technology to come up with new ways to defraud people. The latest deceit has scammers resorting to quishing to steal money, personal information and committing identity theft. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="What is quishing?" comment="subhead" text="What is quishing?"><keyword id="19805899" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="what-is-Quishing" source="Orion">What is quishing</keyword>?</cmsannotation> You may have heard about terms such as phishing, card skimming, email spoofing and more. But quishing is a rising scam that involves the use of fake QR codes to redirect the user to a fake website or to steal information. According to a<a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/rise-of-quishing-the-threat-of-fake-qr-codes-for-financial-fraud-and-identity-theft/articleshow/106940852.cms"> report</a>, complaints related to UPI frauds have increased from 15,000 cases in 2022 to over 30,000 in 2023. Of this, nearly half of the cases reportedly involved QR codes It’s not just UPI, QR codes have been in use for a long time now, be it for sharing information about a product or sharing a digital menu at some restaurants. <keyword id="1011037" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="qr-code" source="Orion">QR code</keyword> frauds have also risen in countries like the US, with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issuing an<a href="https://consumer.ftc.gov/consumer-alerts/2023/12/scammers-hide-harmful-links-qr-codes-steal-your-information"> alert</a>, cautioning users about harmful links in QR codes. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Here’s how quishing works" comment="subhead" text="Here’s how quishing works">Here’s how quishing works</cmsannotation> In quishing, the scammer generally asks the victim to scan a QR code using the camera, which then redirects the user to a website created by the scammer. This website is generally an imitation of a genuine website, be it an e-commerce platform, a bank or other platforms that deal with important personal and financial information. Then, the website asks the user to enter their personal information or account details. When the user enters this information, the information is sent to the scammer, who can use this information to steal money or commit identity theft. In some instances, these QR codes also prompt the victim to enter their UPI PIN to send money. When the user enters their UPI PIN, the scammer receives it and can use it to steal money. Not just this, QR codes may also include malicious files, which are automatically downloaded when the user scans the code. Quishing on the rise – Be alert while scanning payment QR codes

<keyword id="19911549" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="meta" source="keywords">Meta</keyword> (formerly Facebook) on Thursday launched a new feature called "nighttime nudges" that aims to remind teens when they spend more than 10 minutes on <keyword id="819905" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="instagram" source="Orion">Instagram</keyword> late at night. The new feature will remind teens that it's late and encourage them to shut the app. "Sleep is important, particularly for young people, so we're launching new nighttime nudges that will show up when teens have spent more than 10 minutes on Instagram in places like Reels or Direct Messages late at night," Meta said in a blogpost. "They'll remind teens that it's late, and encourage them to close the app," it added. Meanwhile, Meta has announced that it will start to hide more types of age-inappropriate content for teens on Instagram and Facebook, in line with expert guidance. The company said that they are automatically placing teens into the most restrictive content control setting on both platforms. "We already apply this setting for new teens when they join Instagram and Facebook and are now expanding it to teens who are already using these apps," Meta said. Meta's new feature to remind teens when they spend over 10 min on Instagram

<keyword id="19906967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="keywords">Tata Motors</keyword> plans to commence production of electric vehicles at the Sanand plant, acquired from Ford India, from April this year, as per a top company official. Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, a unit of Tata Motors, acquired the facility from Ford India for Rs 725.7 crore in January last year. "We are planning to commence electric vehicle production at Sanand with <keyword id="20190169" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nexon" source="keywords">Nexon</keyword> EV from April," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles MD Shailesh <keyword id="19912128" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chandra" source="keywords">Chandra</keyword> told PTI. The company has already commenced production of internal combustion engine-powered versions of the Nexon at the manufacturing plant with an installed capacity of 3 lakh units per annum. It can be further scaled up to 4.2 lakh units per annum. Chandra said the company is also looking to produce upcoming models at the facility. When asked about the company's product pipeline, he said that <keyword id="20290613" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="curvv-ev" source="keywords">Curvv EV</keyword> would be introduced around the second or third quarter of this calendar year. "We are also hoping that by the fag-end of this year, we should also be able to introduce Harrier EV and internal combustion engine (ICE) version of Curvv," Chandra said. On sales outlook for the next fiscal, he noted that the passenger vehicle industry is expected to grow by 5 per cent. "We have few launches planned, so will be targeting to grow better than the industry," Chandra stated. On the Budget wishlist, he stated that extending FAME benefits to personal electric cars would help in accelerating the growth of electrification in the country. Chandra noted that an increase in sales of electric cars was witnessed in states like Maharashtra and Gujarat when they offered incentives to the buyers. "Also, there is a problem of inverted duty structure in EVs that is also something that we have been asking," he noted. About talks on giving some concessions to a US-based EV major, Chandra said: "Our position is very simple that we are not worried about any specific competitor. Any player who is ready to participate in the EV space with upfront investment in localisation or charging infra development is welcome". He further said: "We are not afraid of the competition...we are effectively dealing with the competition, all we seek is a level playing field". Tata Motors to commence EV production at Sanand plant from April

During the day, it zoomed 708.78 points or 0.99 per cent to 71,895.64. The Nifty climbed 160.15 points or 0.75 per cent to close at 21,622.40. In the past three days, the BSE benchmark fell by 2.91 per cent, and the Nifty declined 2.87 per cent. "A 'buy on dips' and encouraging global cues propelled the market's recovery. Today’s rebound was broad based; however, investors are disappointed and expect moderation in the rally. As FIIs persist with risk-off sparked by the likelihood that interest rates may not moderate and domestic earnings growth can slow down as per the initial Q3 results announced. Sector rotation is likely to propel going ahead," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services. Among the Sensex firms, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, Tech Mahindra, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Tata Steel, <keyword id="19963567" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ultratech-cement" source="keywords">UltraTech Cement</keyword>, Titan, Axis Bank, JSW Steel and Larsen &amp; Toubro were the major gainers. The company has now added a new disclaimer to Chrome’s incognito mode. According to a<a href="https://mspoweruser.com/google-updates-chrome-incognito-disclaimer-amid-5-billion-lawsuit-settlement/"> report</a> by MSPowerUser, Google has added a new disclaimer in its latest <keyword id="20222649" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="canary" source="keywords">Canary</keyword> build of <keyword id="182214" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="google-chrome" source="Orion">Google Chrome</keyword>. For those unaware, the Canary build of Chrome is an early-access version which allows users and developers to test new features and updates before they are rolled out in the stable build. Here’s the current disclaimer offered in Chrome’s incognito mode: “Now you can browse privately, and other people who use this device won’t see your activity. However, downloads, bookmarks and reading list items will be saved. Learn more” The new disclaimer in Chrome’s incognito mode in the Canary build reads: “Others who use this device won’t see your activity, so you can browse more privately. This won’t change how data is collected by websites you visit and the services they use, including Google. Downloads, bookmarks and reading list items will be saved. Learn more” While Google had earlier mentioned that your activity might still be visible to websites you visit, it had not revealed that Google continues to track users in an incognito window. It is to be noted that the change in disclaimer does not mean Google is starting to track users now. It has reportedly been doing so for a long time and has only updated its disclaimers now. Users must be cautious about how they use the incognito mode as it’s not just Google but also the websites that you visit that can track your activities. The move is also seen as Google taking this step to offer better information about Chrome’s incognito mode ahead of the lawsuit settlement being presented in the courts. The final approval for the lawsuit is expected to be given in February 2024. The company was hit by this class action lawsuit in 2020 for collecting user data in Chrome’s incognito mode. Google Incognito mode has a new disclaimer – You are being tracked

The global PC shipments declined by 0.2% year-on-year in Q4 2023. According to a report by Counterpoint Research, the year-end holiday season failed to boost the shipments in the last quarter of the year. With this, the year 2023 ended with a 14% year-on-year decline in PC shipments. The slowdown in decline in shipments is being seen as a positive and companies expect a recovery in the first half of 2024. The decline in shipments in 2023 is being attributed to a slowdown in both commercial and consumer segments. Global PC shipments decline for the eighth straight quarter; hopes pinned on AI to drive sales

Mysuru-based sculptor <keyword id="20030326" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="arun-yogiraj" source="keywords">Arun Yogiraj</keyword>, who chiselled the '<keyword id="19904197" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ram-lalla" source="keywords">Ram Lalla</keyword>' idol consecrated in the newly constructed temple in Ayodhya, on Monday, says he considers himself the luckiest person on the earth and believes that its Lord Ram who chose him for the task. "I have always felt that Lord Ram has been shielding me and my family from all the bad times and I strongly believe that it is him, who chose me for the auspicious task," <keyword id="20289611" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="yogiraj" source="keywords">Yogiraj</keyword>, who has received effusive praise for his work, told PTI. A fifth-generation sculptor, he was among the invitees to the grand consecration ceremony here. "I spent sleepless nights working on the idol with precision but it was all worth it. I feel I am the luckiest person on the earth and today is the best day of my life," an excited "I learnt the art of sculpting from my father. He would have been very proud to see my idol here today," he said. While it was a proud moment for him to witness the historic event in person, his family back in Mysuru witnessed the ceremony live on TV. "He (Yogiraj) had many sleepless nights thinking and concentrated on making the Ram Lalla idol. There were days when we hardly spoke, and he hardly gave time to the family. All this is now compensated by this great news," his wife Vijeta had told PTI last week. "The stone was very hard, so hard that its pointed flake pricked into his eye and it was removed through an operation. Even during the pain he did not stop and continued with the work," she said. An MBA from the University of Mysore, Arun Yogiraj trained for six months in the HR Department of a private company. "But I listened to my inner voice and left the private sector job and returned to Mysuru to carry forward the family tradition," he said. Yogiraj had earlier sculpted the 12-foot-tall idol of Adi Shankaracharya, which has been placed in Kedarnath, and the statue of Subhas Chandra Bose which has been installed near India Gate in Delhi. The 21 feet tall Hanuman statue at Chunchanakatte in Mysore district, 15 feet tall statue of Dr B R Ambedkar, a white amritashila statue of <keyword id="20290912" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="swami-ramakrishna-paramahamsa" source="keywords">Swami Ramakrishna Paramahamsa</keyword> in Mysore, six feet tall monolithic statue of Nandi, six feet tall statue of Banashankari Devi and a 4.5 feet tall white Amrita Shila statue of the King of Mysore Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar are among the idols sculpted by him. According to a UGC-emeritus professor at the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Mysore, the idol carved by Yogiraj, which is now gracing the sanctum sanctorum of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, has been sculpted from a three-billion-year-old rock. "Based on extensive geological, petrological, and geochronological studies carried out by the Department of Earth Science, for more than three decades, it has been found that the rock used to carve the idol of <keyword id="20290913" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sri-ram-lalla" source="keywords">Sri Ram Lalla</keyword> is the oldest rock from South India," he said. The azure-coloured Krishna Shile (black schist) was excavated from Gujjegowdanapura at Jayapura Hobli in H.D. Kote Taluk. It is a fine to medium-grained, sky-blue-coloured metamorphic rock and this type is generally called soapstone because of its smooth surface texture and is an ideal rock for sculptors to carve idols "Krishna Shile" was found while levelling the agricultural land of Ramdas (78) and a local contractor who assessed the quality of the stone drew the attention of the temple trustees at Ayodhya through his contacts. On assessment, it was found to be of superior quality and was selected for sculpting the idol of Ram Lalla at Ayodhya. Ramadas has now announced he will donate four 'guntas' of his land for the construction of a Ram temple at the site from where the stone was mined. Meanwhile, special rituals for temple foundation laying were performed on Monday at the same spot where the black stone for the Ayodhya idol was found. The rituals were performed at 6.30 am and were attended by Chamundeshwari MLA GT Deve Gowda and community leaders of the village and surrounding areas. Yogiraj has also been requested to prepare an idol for the temple when it is constructed. <keyword id="20290914" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rama-lalla" source="keywords">Rama Lalla</keyword>'s idols were made by three sculptors - Ganesh Bhatt, Arun Yogiraj and Satyanarayan Pandey. The temple trust had said that of the three idols, one will be placed in the sanctum sanctorum, while the remaining two will be kept in other parts of the Ram Mandir. New Delhi, The people watching <keyword id="19902033" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ram" source="keywords">Ram</keyword> Lalla's consecration ceremony on TV with folded hands or Prime Minister <keyword id="19895781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="keywords">Narendra Modi</keyword> prostrating before the idol during the ceremony are among the many images that took the internet by storm on Monday as netizens greet the devotees of Lord Ram with congratulatory messages on what many say is a 'historic day'. The new Ram Lalla idol was consecrated at the Ayodhya temple on Monday. It was led by Prime Minister Modi and watched by lakhs of people on television at their homes and in temples across the country. The religious fervour and festive atmosphere that gripped the temple town of Ayodhya was visible on social media platforms too as the Ram temple -- including prominent figures attending the grand launch event -- trended on X. The people across religions, geographies and social identities joined in to celebrate this historic event, touted to be a seminal occasion in India's political and religious history. "Congrats Bharat! Today is a very proud day for India... The new temple looks like a marvel of art and beauty. It promises to stand as a symbol of the new India - proud of its history and heritage, rapidly developing, ready to be a major power in the 21st century," tweeted United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) former executive director Erik Solheim. "I sense a different energy everywhere leading up to this day of <keyword id="19904196" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ram-mandir" source="keywords">Ram Mandir</keyword> inauguration. While Modi took part in the 'pran pratishtha' rituals in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister <keyword id="19898780" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="yogi-adityanath" source="keywords">Yogi Adityanath</keyword> and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat; senior BJP leaders, including party chief J P Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, watched the live streaming of the ceremony. Another post, tweeted by handle @imzyan07, purportedly shows PM Modi addressing a rally in 1990s, read: "A temple for Ram in Ayodhya is not just a dream of the BJP, An expression of Pm Modi's soul-melting devotion can be seen in his heart-melting tears for the Ram Temple at a rally held in 1992." Besides visuals of the newly constructed Ram temple in Ayodhya, many people also shared visuals of the Indian diaspora celebrating the 'pran pratishtha' ceremony in foreign lands -- be it lighting up the iconic New York's Times Square with Lord Ram's illustration or the one of devotees' chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' at the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris. Several BJP-run states had declared the day a holiday to allow the people to watch the ceremony on TV and also take part in events at neighbourhood temples. That said, not everyone shared the same sense of euphoria or elation over the 'pran pratishtha' ceremony and in fact said the celebration is not about divinity but one of "intimidation and humiliation of the minority community". "Never forget how it started. A criminal act of vandalism is turned into a national celebration. This celebration is not about divinity. It's about intimidation and humiliation of the minority community. The degeneration of India is complete. #RamMandir #BabriMasjid," tweeted Gaurish. In another post, Ankur Mishra, who describes himself as an advocate at the Delhi High Court, said he apologises to all his brothers and sisters who follow other religions in the country. "Whatever is happening, is breaking the secular fabric of India, politicisation of religion and serious threat to the integrity of India. I pray for my India," said Mishra in his post on X. The 16th century Babri mosque, which many Hindus believe was constructed on the site of Lord Ram's birthplace, was demolished by the kar sevaks on December 6, 1992. After a protracted legal battle, the Supreme Court in November 2019 ruled in favour of the construction of the temple. It also ordered allotment of a five-acre plot for the construction of a mosque.
