Had it not been for the "boring teaching" by Oxford teachers, <keyword id="3919492" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="faiz-siddiqui">Faiz Siddiqui</keyword> could have had a high-flying career as an international commercial lawyer. This is what this Indian-origin student who studied modern history at <keyword id="30725" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Oxford-university">Oxford University</keyword> back in 2000, claimed as he decided to sue the college 16 years later. 
 
He blamed getting a second class degree and loss of earnings in his career as a lawyer on Oxford staff's "negligent" teaching of his specialist subject course on Indian imperial history. Siddiqui now suffers from depression and insomnia. He equates everything that has gone in his life to his "disappointing examination results". 
 The Sunday Guardian reported - Siddiqui's barrister Roger Mallalieu informed the court that the problem came down to four of the seven staff teaching Asian history being on sabbatical leave at the same time during the 1999-2000 academic year. He singled out the "boring" standard of tuition that Siddiqui had received from <keyword id="3919498" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="david-washbrook">David Washbrook</keyword>, an expert on the history of southern India between the 18th and 20th centuries. "There is no personal criticism of Washbrook. Our target is on the university's back for allowing this to happen," Mallalieu further told the court. He claimed that the eminent historian's teaching had suffered from the "intolerable" pressure of the staff shortages on the course. 
 Oxford University, meanwhile, argued that the claim is baseless and should be struck out because of the number of years that have passed since Siddiqui graduated. <keyword id="3919494" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="julian-milford">Julian Milford</keyword>, the university's barrister, denied that Siddiqui's case had any substance even as he admitted that "circumstances were difficult" during that year. 
 
A judgment in the matter is expected later this month.

of <keyword id="227940" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chennai-Express">Chennai Express</keyword>, <keyword id="500441" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Krrish-3">Krrish 3</keyword> and <keyword id="1886157" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ram-Leela">Ram-Leela</keyword> (yes, this flick from <keyword id="6358308" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="sanjay-leela-bhansali">Sanjay Leela Bhansali</keyword> is finally looking <keyword id="41744" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="UP">up</keyword> and nearing the Rs 100 crore mark but more on that later), two more movies hit the screens on Friday (November 22) – <keyword id="2165" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kareena-Kapoor">Kareena Kapoor</keyword> (<keyword id="2857" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bebo">Bebo</keyword>) and <keyword id="14676" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Imran-Khan">Imran Khan</keyword>’s much-hyped <keyword id="1636016" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="rom-com">rom-com</keyword> <keyword id="1538595" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gori-Tere-Pyaar-Mein">Gori Tere Pyaar Mein</keyword> and <keyword id="9271" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sunny-Deol">Sunny Deol</keyword>’s rustic action flick <keyword id="1481019" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Singh-Saab-The-Great">Singh Saab The Great</keyword>. But after our usual 4-day tally, the numbers are none too impressive. 
 
Let’s take a close look at Gori Tere first, directed by <keyword id="112568" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Punit-Malhotra">Punit Malhotra</keyword>. According to a trade website, the total collection after 4 days (Nov 22-25) stands at a paltry Rs 16.5 crore and certainly nowhere near the Big League. In his latest tweet, film critic and analyst Taran Adarsh says: #GTPM is better in UAE, below the mark in USA-Canada &amp; UK, poor in Australia and disaster in NZ. Overseas total: $ 980,000 [Rs 6.12 crore]. 
 
If the collection doesn’t pick up soon, Imran could be in trouble. Well, <keyword id="828519" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ek-Main-Aur-Ekk-Tu">Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu</keyword> (Shakun Batra’s directorial debut in 2012), his last movie opposite Bebo, did well at <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword> and grossed a total of $8.1 million in India and abroad. But the year 2013 hasn’t been exactly great and both his films, <keyword id="814061" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Matru-Ki-Bijlee-Ka-Mandola">Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola</keyword> (a <keyword id="825824" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="political-satire">political satire</keyword>) and <keyword id="1717335" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Once-Upon-A-Time-In-Mumbai-Dobaara">Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara</keyword> (a <keyword id="1952408" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Gangster-flick">gangster flick</keyword>) failed to bomb the box office. In contrast, Bebo has done extremely well in Madhur Bhandarkar’s <keyword id="6439486" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="heroine">Heroine</keyword> and <keyword id="125922" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Reema-Kagti">Reema Kagti</keyword>’s suspense thriller <keyword id="1952412" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Talaash-The-Answer-Lies-Within">Talaash: The Answer Lies Within</keyword>. Starring <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword>, Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor, <keyword id="861273" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Talaash">Talaash</keyword> also entered the <keyword id="925977" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rs-100-crore-club">Rs 100 crore club</keyword> and raked in a total of Rs 131.78 crore. 
 However, the <keyword id="1952416" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lukewarm-response">lukewarm response</keyword> to Gori Tere could be due to the over-used theme. Although Imran sparkles in his romedy (romance-comedy) role as a rich architect and Bebo looks pretty stunning in her desi avatar while she pursues her fiery zeal for social work, the ‘bridging’ between the ‘unlikely’ partners is kind of predictable nowadays. And strangely enough, this flick reminds you of an earlier hit (<keyword id="14521" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jab-We-Met">Jab We Met</keyword>) where Bebo did it with equal spontaneity and spunk. Gori Tere is sweet and breezy, but the freshness of the <keyword id="1952417" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shahid-Kapoor-Bebo">Shahid Kapoor-Bebo</keyword> starrer is somewhat missing here and the sparks are not flying. In perspective, Adarsh has tweeted: #BusinessTalk: #RamLeela dominates, #GTPM dismal, #SSTG decent in mass circuits! 
 
And that brings us to the other movie of the week – Gadar director Anil Sharma’s Singh Saab The Great. Sunny Deol-starrer Singh Saab has moved ahead of Gori Tere and grossed around Rs 21.5 crore after four days. The response has been good in North India, especially in Punjab and Delhi, and single screens have seen good turnouts except in the East and the South. 
 In this <keyword id="1952421" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Action-drama">action drama</keyword>, Sunny plays a collector of a small city in <keyword id="6357713" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> and values his honesty and integrity more than anything else. He fights corruption and injustice to usher in the change that real-life politicos never stop mentioning. Overall, it features a contemporary and relevant theme that can impact the audience. <keyword id="1855052" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="SSTG">SSTG</keyword> [limited screens] is best in USA-Canada, but ordinary elsewhere. Overseas total: approx $400,000 [Rs. 2.50 crore], tweeted Adarsh. 
 Meanwhile, Bhansali’s Ram-Leela is catching up after some initial hiccups. Last week, the Lucknow bench of the <keyword id="48834" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Allahabad-High-Court">Allahabad High Court</keyword> banned the screening of <keyword id="1942272" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Goliyon-Ki-Raasleela-Ram-leela">Goliyon ki Raasleela Ram-Leela</keyword> in Uttar Pradesh. The court has, however, allowed the producer and director to run the film without using ‘Ram-Leela’ and ‘Raasleela’ in the title. In its ruling, the bench said, “We are only concerned with the use of word ‘Ram-Leela’ in the title of the film, which hurts the sentiments of billions of peoples not only in India but all over the world.” 
 
But in spite of the controversies, Ram-Leela continues to dominate and seems to have overtaken Krrish 3 in the global market. According to Adarsh, #Krrish3 affected by #RamLeela wave. Overseas total *after Weekend 4*: approx $8.5 million [Rs 53.07 crore]. Blockbuster! 
 
As of now (after the 26th day), Krrish 3 has grossed a total of Rs 263.20 crore. But the question is – can Ram-Leela overtake Krrish 3 and become the topmost earner? We need to wait and watch – picture abhi baki hai and the box office war is far from over.

New Delhi, Producer Karan Johar says <keyword id="21144054" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reema-maya" source="keywords">Reema Maya</keyword> of "Nocturnal Burger" fame will direct the series adaptation of his "Student of the Year" franchise. The filmmaker made the announcement on the closing day of the Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF) in Chandigarh on Sunday. "Reema Maya will be directing the digital version of 'Student of the Year'. But it will be her way and definitely not mine. "If I'll enter Reema Maya's world then I will make it more of an illusion... I just wanted it to be her voice. She made it her own series," Johar said of Maya, whose acclaimed short "Nocturnal Burger" received its world premiere at 2023's Sundance Film Festival. The filmmaker was speaking at a masterclass session, which was moderated by Namrata Joshi, CIFF Market Projects curator and film critic. Johar directed "Student of the Year", the 2012 movie which launched Alia Bhatt, <keyword id="19946417" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="varun-dhawan" source="keywords">Varun Dhawan</keyword> and <keyword id="19909594" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sidharth-malhotra" source="keywords">Sidharth Malhotra</keyword> into the film industry, under his banner Dharma Productions. Seven years later, "Student of the Year 2" was released as a standalone sequel, directed by Punit Malhotra and featuring <keyword id="19915804" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tiger-shroff" source="keywords">Tiger Shroff</keyword> as well as Ananya Panday and <keyword id="19935383" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tara-sutaria" source="keywords">Tara Sutaria</keyword> in their film debut. The CIFF, which began on March 27, showcased a line-up of over 67 titles, including world cinema, Indian feature films, classics as well as shorts films.

Center fresh collaborates with Dharma 2.0 to give a new story treatment to 'fresh breath confidence'

The first official trailer of Karan Johar’s upcoming movie <keyword id="6360799" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="brothers">Brothers</keyword> was released yesterday. An official remake of the Hollywood movie Warrior, the Hindi version stars <keyword id="2823" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Akshay-Kumar">Akshay Kumar</keyword>, <keyword id="1320874" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sidharth-Malhotra">Sidharth Malhotra</keyword>, Jacqueline Fernandes, and Jackie Shroff. 
 
In the trailer, we see Akshay and Sidharth as estranged brothers who face each other in a boxing ring. Jackie Shroff plays the role of their father while Jacqueline Fernandes plays Akshay Kumar’s wife. While Akshay plays David, a professor who turns to fighting to save her daughter’s life, Sidharth plays Monty, a fighter who becomes an internet sensation because of one viral video and wants to prove himself. 
 
The movie has been directed by Karan Malhotra, who has earlier directed the remake of the hit 1990 film Agneepath, starring Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt in leading roles. Produced by Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar and Endemol India, the film is officially presented by Fox Star India, in association with Lionsgate. 
 The trailer was awaited by the respective fan followings of both the stars, and had been trending on Twitter for a few days. It has collected 1,567,134 views in less than 24 hours of being released, and has caught the fancy of many <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> stars as well.
