<ul class="summary-list"><li><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple">Apple</a> is exploring new headsets and smart home devices to expand beyond its current lineup.</li><li>Past plans haven't always worked out, with scrapped car plans and weak demand for the Vision Pro.</li></ul><p>Apple's possible future product lineup suggests that the giant is entering a new era.</p><p>Many devices are reportedly in the works at the tech giant, and many of them are very different from its golden child — the iPhone. Apple followers, including Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman and Taiwan-based supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, have said it's exploring new headsets, smart home devices, and more.</p><p>The tech industry has long speculated about what will be Apple's next big thing, and the answer may lie in the slate that people have been reporting on for the past several months.</p><p>Creating a hit product isn't easy. The company scrapped plans for an <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-is-shutting-down-its-ev-project-2024-2">Apple Car</a> in February, and the $3,500 <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-vision-pro-production-weak-demand-2024-10">Vision Pro</a> has had mixed reviews in the months since its release. On Sunday, Gurman <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2024-11-10/apple-s-expansion-plan-glasses-home-devices-mixed-reality-headsets-airpods-m3bncxeo?srnd=undefined">said</a> Apple is focusing on smaller wins that can generate revenue on the same level as iPads or its wearable tech.</p><p>That requires Apple to tiptoe into new territory where competitors may already be making strides.</p><p>The most recent device Bloomberg said is in Apple's production lineup is a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-to-launch-ai-powered-smart-home-device-compete-google-2024-11">wall-mounted smart home tablet</a> that could have the ability to operate home appliances, use Apple Intelligence, and access Apple apps.</p><p>The project, code-named J490, could come as early as March — a month before new Apple Intelligence features are expected to roll out, Bloomberg <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-11-12/apple-home-hub-detailed-apple-intelligence-homeos-square-ipad-like-design?srnd=homepage-americas">reported</a> Tuesday.</p><p>Despite smart home tech not being a cash cow for Big Tech, there's another futuristic smart home device on Apple's radar. Bloomberg also reported that Apple is developing a tabletop robot with an iPad-like display and a robotic arm.</p><p>Analysts from Morningstar, Deepwater Asset Management, and EMARKETER were skeptical about the profitability — or probability — of the device's existence when Business Insider asked them about it in August.</p><p>Meanwhile, Kuo, known for his often accurate Apple product predictions, said in early November the tech giant delayed production of a cheaper Vision Pro to "beyond 2027" and will move ahead with an M5 processor Vision Pro with Apple Intelligence for 2025.</p><p>In the wearables category, Bloomberg said last week <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-reportedly-looking-into-smart-glasses-market-2024-11">Apple is exploring AR glasses,</a> perhaps inspired by the prototype Orion glasses Meta showed off in September. They are far from<strong> </strong>production stages, but Morningstar analyst William Kerwin previously said smart glasses are likely Apple's ultimate eyewear goal.</p><p>As <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tim-cook">CEO Tim Cook</a> continues his 13-year tenure in the role, the 64-year-old is guiding the company into a new future. The next line of products Apple launches could solidify Cook's legacy.</p>

Apple's future product lineup is starting to come into focus

<ul class="summary-list"><li>As an <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-ways-to-cook-different-steak-cuts-from-chef-2022-2">experienced chef and cooking instructor</a>, I love this take on twice-baked potatoes. </li><li>This recipe calls for mascarpone and chives but no milk or sour cream.</li></ul><p>I've been a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/useful-tips-from-culinary-school-for-home-cooks-chef-2022-4">professional chef for over 15 years</a>, yet I still remember my first taste of a twice-baked potato at my aunt and uncle's home on Christmas.</p><p>From the crispy, flaky outer shell to the creamy, rich interior that created one perfect bite, I was instantly hooked. This side dish is individually preportioned for ease of serving and can mostly be made in advance. </p><p>Here's <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chef-easy-pasta-recipe-everyone-should-know-how-to-make-2022-4">my go-to recipe</a> for twice-baked potatoes with mascarpone and chives.</p><h2>Russet potatoes are ideal since they mash well and are a good size</h2><div type="image" title="Potatoes, cheese, cream and butter laid out for twice-baked potatoes" height="2274" width="3024" msid="115314164" hostid="261" sizebytes="413734"></div><p>Russet <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trying-best-mashed-potato-recipes-from-chefs">potatoes mash beautifully</a> and retain a great shape when the insides are scooped out thanks to their thicker skin.</p><p>Additionally, this recipe uses medium-sized potatoes since cutting these beauties in half isn't as visually appealing as stuffing them whole. You can easily double the portions for a larger crowd. </p><div type="image" title="Four potatoes with oil on tin foil covered baking sheet" height="2274" width="3024" msid="115314170" hostid="261" sizebytes="437400"></div><p>The filling for these twice-baked potatoes has two notable tweaks from many <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/i-made-potatoes-the-british-way-review-photos-2022-2">classic recipes</a> — there's no added milk, and it calls for mascarpone instead of sour cream.</p><p>A rich <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-and-worst-things-to-make-with-cream-cheese-recipes">cream cheese</a> made with heavy cream, mascarpone has a high fat content, usually around 60% to 75%. It gives the mashed interior extra depth and creamy lusciousness.</p><h2>Use dried chives instead of the fresh alternative</h2><div type="image" title="tablespoon of dried cloves over bowl of potato mash" height="2937" width="3916" msid="115314155" hostid="261" sizebytes="488652"></div><p>Fresh chives are intimidating. They're so delicate that a dull knife will tear right through them. You also need to make sure you use them all up before they go bad. </p><p>Dried chives are a revelation. They retain all of that delicate onion flavor without the hassle of another <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/which-foods-to-get-from-trader-joes-list-photos">shopping trip</a> just for one ingredient.</p><p>You can use them in mashes and sauces or garnish soups and broths with them. You can even add a sprinkle to classic dishes like cacio e pepe or throw them into marinades and salad dressings on the fly. To enjoy the dish later, pack leftovers in an airtight container or lay them flat in a sealed bag, then reheat as needed. </p><p><strong>Ingredients:</strong></p><ul><li>Four medium russet potatoes</li><li>1 tablespoon olive oil</li><li>3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed and softened</li><li>1/2 cup mascarpone</li><li>1/2 cup shredded cheese (or about 2 ounces)</li><li>1/3 cup Parmigiano Reggiano, grated or shredded</li><li>Kosher salt</li><li>Black pepper</li><li>1 tablespoon dried chives </li></ul><p><strong>Instructions:</strong></p><ol><li>Heat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. </li><li>Scrub and dry the potatoes, making sure to get into all of the little crevices. Place them onto a foil- or parchment-lined baking tray. Poke some holes in the potatoes with a fork, which will allow the steam to escape. Top with a drizzle of oil and a sprinkle of salt. </li><li>Let them bake for an hour. The skin should look crispy, and a sharp knife should easily slide into the center. Remove them from the oven.</li><li>When the potatoes have cooled enough to touch, use a sharp knife to slice a long oval on the top. Then, scoop out the insides with a spoon, leaving a thin layer of roasted potato on the skin. </li><li>In a medium bowl, mash the potatoes with butter, mascarpone, and cheese, then add chives. Add salt and pepper to taste.</li><li>Load each potato skin with the filling.</li><li>If serving immediately, bake the potatoes for five to 10 minutes on the center rack. Broil them on high for another five to seven minutes, making sure they don't burn.</li><li>If your potatoes are for the following day, then refrigerate them in an airtight container. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Trump has said he plans to bring down gas prices by boosting US oil production.</li><li>ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods doesn't see a US oil boom in the near future.</li></ul>President-elect Donald Trump's promise to unleash a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cost-expensive-goods-price-impact-presidential-election-scenarios-trump-harris-2024-10">big oil boom</a> in the US and lower gas prices is running up against a market reality: The world is already awash in fossil fuels.<br /><br />ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods told <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.semafor.com/article/11/12/2024/exxon-ceo-darren-woods-donald-trump-shouldnt-scrap-methane-regulations">Semafor</a> on November 12 that while he wants to maintain US oil production at its current highs, the market is already well supplied.<br /><br />"I don't think today that production in the US is constrained," he said. "I don't know that there's an opportunity to unleash a lot of production in the near term."<br /><br />During the presidential campaign, Trump said that he planned to lower energy prices — including the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/10/us/politics/trump-economics-gas-tariffs-inflation.html">cost of gas</a> — by increasing US oil production.<br /><br />"We will frack, frack, frack and drill, baby, drill," Trump <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.factcheck.org/2024/10/the-issues-trumps-proposal-to-lower-prices-by-increasing-energy-production/">said</a> in October. "I will cut your energy prices in half within 12 months." In September, Trump <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/10/us/politics/trump-economics-gas-tariffs-inflation.html">said</a> he would reduce gas prices to below $2 a gallon.<br /><br />Energy analysts told Business Insider that big oil companies are more focused on returning money to shareholders than investing in projects that boost production, especially because China isn't importing as much oil due to its economic downturn.<br /><br />Their comments underscore how little control a US president has over the oil and gas market, including prices at the pump.<br /><br />"It's a global market," Ben Cahill, director of energy markets and policy at the University of Texas at Austin, told BI. "There's very little any president can do to change the direction of oil or gasoline prices."<br /><br />Cahill added that he expects the US to increase oil production, but it will happen gradually. The US is already producing record amounts of oil, at <a target="_blank" href="https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=61545">12.9 million barrels of crude a day in 2023</a> compared with about 11 million barrels per day in 2020, when Trump was in office. Last year, the US also became the world's biggest exporter of natural gas. In October, the US Energy Information Administration <a target="_blank" href="https://www.enerdata.net/publications/daily-energy-news/us-eia-expects-domestic-crude-oil-production-reach-135-mbd-2025.html#:~:text=At%20a%20global%20scale%2C%20the,13.5%20mb%2Fd%20in%202025.">projected</a> that the US would produce 13.5million barrels a day in 2025, hitting another record.<br /><br />And there is room for the industry to expand. Woods <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/11/01/exxon-ceo-says-us-election-wont-affect-oil-production.html">told</a> CNBC earlier this month that there are areas in the Gulf of Mexico — where federal leasing hasn't allowed companies to drill — that could be a source of additional oil production in the long term. <br /><br />Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, told BI that Trump could take some steps to try to boost US oil production, including easing regulations to open up additional places for companies to drill and working with OPEC. For $44.95, I could be the proud owner of the <a target="_blank" class="c-link c-link--underline" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/skibidi-toilet-is-good-actually-2023-10"><u>Skibidi Toilet</u></a> — complete with <keyword id="23944930" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="toilet-themed-toys" source="keywords">toilet-themed toys</keyword> in the bowl. <br /><br />And in case you were wondering: Yes, it makes a flushing noise.<br /><br />If you've spent any time lately around someone who isn't old enough to drive, you've probably heard some utterance of the word "<em>skibidi</em>." I'll spare you the full summary of the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/skibidi-toilet-gen-z-alpha-memes-internet-culture-outdated-old-2023-7" target="_blank">Gen Alpha meme</a>, but the short form is: It's a YouTube series about a dystopian battle of good and evil (the toilet guys <b>are the villains</b>). My colleague Lindsay Dodgson <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/skibidi-toilet-is-good-actually-2023-10" target="_blank">describes</a> it as "part 'Terminator,' part 'Bladerunner,' and obviously, part toilets." She says the series is actually good.<br /><br />What's interesting to me is that this absurd toilet meme appears to be doing a robust business in the toy aisle of your local discount store.<br /><br />I spoke with Dan Meyer, head of brands at Bonkers Toys, the company behind the flush. "Right away we noticed that it was exploding," Meyer said of the skibidi phenomenon online. Bonkers made a licensing deal and started pitching vendors on the toilet toy — an easy sell, he said. Bonkers started making prototypes of the toilet toy in early 2024 — and it's hit the shelves in time for the holiday season, a tight timeline.<br /><br />"When we're pitching it to [retailers], we had enough data to see that in middle schools and elementary schools, the term <em>skibidi</em> was already a thing," Meyer said. Bonkers could point to the YouTube views the Skibidi Toilet series had racked up — its channel has more than 40 million followers — or how if they searched Instagram, they'd find "hundreds and hundreds" of people dressed in homemade Skibidi Toilet costumes.<br /><br />Bonkers Toys, founded in 2017 in San Diego, has carved a niche for itself by licensing intellectual property from YouTube creators. Its first big toy was the giant "mystery egg" toy for Ryan's World. At the time, Ryan's World was one of the top channels on YouTube, a pioneer in the genre of "little kid opening toys."<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="skibidi toilet toys" height="3000" width="3000" msid="115096128" hostid="261"></div>Bonkers' move into memes is in line with what retailers are trying to achieve, Blake Droesch, a senior retail analyst with BI sister company Emarketer, told me.<br /><br />He said big box stores like Walmart are trying to respond quickly to online trends, especially for toys. They need to move fast to compete with viral shopping on the likes of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-gen-x-boomers-love-temu-2024-1">Temu</a>. "This environment has certainly created demand for manufacturers who can produce fast and cheap products that will serve this growing market," he said. "It's no different than fast fashion, but for toys. They respond quickly to viral moments and get products on the shelves while the trend is still hot."<br /><br />The original Skibidi Toilet was the creation of animator Alexey Gerasimov, who made it for his YouTube channel DaFuq!?Boom!, which has 44.3 million subscribers. Gerasimov has partnered with Invisible Narratives, a companyfounded by Adam Goodman, the former president of DreamWorks SKG and Paramount Pictures who works with YouTube creators to help them make the jump to more traditional media, like movies and TV. It also helps them with licensing their brands for merchandise, like Skibidi's deal with Bonkers.<br /><br />Merchandising, like with the toys from Bonkers Toys, is crucial to success for these new media brands, he said.<br /><br />"We believe that young people don't want to pay for content anymore," Goodman told Business Insider. "Their parents pay for subscriptions, and the don't really go to movies the way that they used to — but they like buying stuff."<br /><br />Skibidi Toilet is certainly not the first YouTube creation to enter into consumer merchandise. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-mrbeast-pitches-brands-sponsorship-deals-jimmy-donaldson-youtube-2024-10">MrBeast</a> sells chocolates and premade lunches along with Logan Paul and KSI, who make the popular drink Prime.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="Skibidit toilet plush toy" height="3000" width="3000" msid="115096131" hostid="261"></div>Meyer wouldn't provide numbers on how many toilets they've sold, but so far, things are looking promising, he said. He said Bonkers' launch of a LankyBox-themed product about three years ago — which was another product centered on a YouTube creator — was one of the "biggest, most successful-selling brands in the boys' action aisle" at discounters, including Walmart. He said the Skibidi Toilet was outselling LankyBox by around double. (Walmart didn't respond to requests for comment on sales numbers.)<br /><br />Right now, there are only a few Skibidi Toilet-theme products from Bonkers: individual action figures, mini-figures, plushes (aw, cute), and the aforementioned "mystery" toilet, which includes stickers, minifigures, and lanyards.
