India’s sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore is expected to kick off the league,<a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/sports/kho-kho-to-get-its-own-league-soon/articleshow/68680124.cms"> reported </a>Economic Times. The vice chairman of Dabur, Amit Burman, will be launching the league in association with Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI). Kho Kho is one of the oldest forms of outdoor sport played by 12 players in a team. Being a game of tag, it is one of the very few field games that requires minimal infrastructure. <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/sports/kho-kho-to-get-its-own-league-soon/articleshow/68680124.cms">As per the tentative </a>plan, the first season of the league will be launched in September and October. There will be a total of eight franchises with 12 players in each team. Every team will have two foreign players, and two players who will be under the age of 21 years. There are a total of eight franchises and the teams have players not only from India, but also from other parts of the world, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Iran, Japan, the UK, Indonesia, South Korea, Oman, Taiwan, Kenya and Turkmenistan.

Other than this, the best raider, defender, the best catcher will be given Rs 10,000 each in every match. 
 
Talking of big bucks, the organiser, Mashal Sports, will keep 80% of the revenue coming from all the eight franchises. World Sport Group, which is the marketing partner, will receive 10% of it and the remaining 10% will be put across for the league. 
 
One interesting trivia of this league is that every team has at least one player who is more than six feet in height. In total, there are 16 players who are taller than six feet.

Overall, spending on sports celebrity endorsements has increased 20% by ₹124 crore to ₹749 crore in 2022 from ₹625 crore in the previous year, says GroupM ESP Sporting Nation Report 2023. Former captain of the Indian cricket team MS Dhoni is another one on the list that makes a huge amount from brand advertisements followed by Rohit Sharma. Apparently, all three Indian cricketers have 30 brands each. The report says that other Team India stars like Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan are also among the big scorers in the endorsement space, be it in terms of overall revenue, or with respect to acquisition of new brands too. New ones on the pitch of brand endorsements are cricketers like Surya Kumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. “Cricketers with a more recent ascendancy to the world of stardom, like Surya Kumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer, can be considered to be the new favourites of brands and they are expected to score at a brisk rate in near future,” said the report. As the Indian women’s team has progressed by leaps and bounds in the last few years, women cricketers like Harmanpreet Kaur, Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana are also attracting brand endorsements. With the rollout of Women's Premier League from 2023, these women players are expected to pick up pace in the endorsement arena. Share of other emerging sports in celebrity endorsement gradually picking up Other emerging sports professionals are gradually picking pace in brand endorsement. With the emerging popularity of other sports including Kho Kho, Kabaddi, Hockey and others, the share of cricket in sports celebrity endorsement has come down to 85% in 2022 from 87% last year. While other emerging sports find new audiences, the sport personalities from these segments also find takers from brands. Olympic champion in javelin throw Neeraj Chopra is on the top of the list of athletes from other emerging sports to have mass following, and brands in his kitty. With 12 brands under his belt, Chopra had the longest throw among non-cricketers. Badminton player PV Sindhu has 11 brands in her portfolio. Apart from cricket leagues, as India hosted several other tournaments like Indian Super League, Pro Kabaddi, the Commonwealth Games, Prime Volleyball League, and Ultimate KhoKho and others have helped catch more eyeballs for other sports as well.

The chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword>, has made an investment from his personal funds in <keyword id="322457" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="KyaZoonga">Kyazoonga</keyword>, the <keyword id="3404016" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="e-ticketing-start-up">e-ticketing start-up</keyword>. The start-up aims to use the undisclosed funds to stretch into international markets including the United States, West Asia, Pakistan and the Caribbean Islands. 
 
"We have our own IP and ticketing technology platform that enabled us to scale up domestically," Kyazoonga founder Neetu Bhatia told ET. "We largely focus on sporting and entertainment events, not really movies. That's how we differentiate ourselves from the existing players in the market," said the MIT graduate. 
 
Domestically, Kyazoonga has ticketed the Indian Premier League and the Pro Kabaddi League, while on international levels it has ticketed the ICC Cricket World Cup and the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. It is also likely to be a ticketing partner for the Rio 2016 Olympics. 
 
Launched in 2007, its competitors include names like Mera Events and BookMyShow.

Young entrepreneurs having a keen interest in <keyword id="6356028" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sports">sports</keyword> are exploring new avenues for investing in the lucrative <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=sports">sports sector</a>. Don’t believe us? Well, then you didn’t hear about the success several sports startups have witnessed in the recent times. 
 <keyword id="3067375" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Football-Mind">The Football Mind</keyword>, a football networking website that got operational just three months ago, has gathered more than 5,000 users, around 500 clubs, 200 academies and 50 football associations on its platform by now. What new they have done? They have brought together football clubs, academics, players, coaches, associations and admirers of the game. Quiet interesting right? 
 
Pragnesh Krishnamurthy, an IIT graduate and chief executive and co-founder of The Football Mind says, "Popularity is directly proportional to sponsorship and that helps any sports club or association grow." 
 
Krishnamurthy further said that the sports offers an opportunity of around $200 million (about Rs 1,320 crore) in the country as India has more than 25,000 professional clubs, three lakh players and over 8.5 crore fans. 
 Devinder Singh Bhusari, another sports aficionado who quit his job with <keyword id="6356834" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Oil-Corporation">Indian Oil Corporation</keyword>, and launched tennis firm Shaishya Edu &amp; Sports three years ago predicts a shining future of sports startups in India. 
 
He says, “More people are taking to sports not only as future profession for young students but also as exercise for busy working professionals and even housewives.” We can’t ignore his words, as these are coming from the man who has been associated with sports all his life. He is a former Asian champion in the under-14 category and a rank holder from the Association of Tennis Professionals, Gujarat. 
 
As reported by The Economic Times, the company, which had a turnover of Rs 95 lakh last year has around 225-275 players round the year. Of the players, 50 are business and working professionals, 10-15 are home-makers and the remaining are students. And the firm has already organised two Asian ranking tournaments and about 10 national level tournaments of various levels. 
 Tennis is another sport that has caught the attention of the middle and higher classes, says a <keyword id="50041" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="KPMG">KPMG</keyword> report. The study credits this trend to much higher disposable incomes and share of spending on educational and recreational activities, which is set to increase from 5% at present to 9% in 2025. 
 
Tuhin Mishra, managing director of Baseline, a startup which deals in sports marketing and licensing, said the overall sports industry in India has grown 10% from Rs 4,372.5 crore in 2013 to Rs 4,806.9 crore in 2015. "The global sports industry is growing faster than overall GDP and long-term prospects remain strong," he said. 
 
Mishra also believes that the industry has grown mainly due to the emergence of new sports leagues like the Indian Super League, Pro Kabaddi League and World Kabaddi League. 
 
Saumil Majmudar, managing director and co-founder of EduSports says, "We have grown from 10 schools in 2010 to 400 schools in five years." 
 A SeedFund-funded startup, EduSports’s growth led it to being featured in the 14th edition of marketing guru <keyword id="248225" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Philip-Kotler">Philip Kotler</keyword>'s book 'Marketing Management - a South Asia Perspective' as a case study. 
 
Bharati Jacob, managing partner of Seedfund Advisors, an early-stage venture capital firm, said, "We are always looking for scalable ventures and I believe sport-related ventures scale up well." According to other venture fund experts, startups are set to cater to auxiliary sports services too.

The <keyword id="1910227" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-Super-League">Indian Super League</keyword>, India’s very own football league is going to start from October 12th, and as the nation gears up for the first football league, here is what you should know about it. 
 
Bringing Indian football out of hibernation 
The Indian Super league was founded in 2013 after seeing that many Indians are crazy about football craze, but sadly, have no national football league to follow. The Indian Super League aims to turn the table. 
 
It would function like Twenty20 cricket IPL and will comprise eight franchise teams, owned from people and companies across the country. The league will commence in October and end in December. 
 
Slugging it out 
Eight teams that will compete in this league are as follows: 
 
· Atlético de Kolkata, coached by Antonio López Habas, with Spain as the foreign draft. 
· Chennai Titans, coached by Marco Materazzi with Italy as the foreign draft. 
· Delhi Dynamos FC, coached by Harm van Veldhoven with Netherlands as the foreign draft. 
· FC Goa, coached by Fatorda Stadium Zico with Brazil as the foreign draft. 
· Kerala Blasters FC, coached by David James with England as the foreign draft. 
· Mumbai City FC, coached by Peter Reid with England as the foreign draft. 
· North East United FC, coached by Ricki Herbert with New Zealand as the foreign draft. 
· FC Pune City, coached by Franco Colomba with Italy as the foreign draft. 
 
Who’s who in the <keyword id="244888" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Isl">ISL</keyword> The league is owned by Reliance Industries Ltd, Star India Pvt. Ltd. and IMG Worldwide Inc. Every year, the league would be played between October and December. Each team will play against all other teams twice on a home-and-away basis, almost like the Pro Kabaddi League. The top four teams will qualify for the finals. 
 
While building their teams, each team will have to sign: 
· At least seven foreigners, out of which two will be from the club and five will be from the foreign player draft; 
· One marquee player, which in the words of AIFF is "A foreign recruit who has represented his country in any of the continental championships like the European Championship, Copa America, African Nations Cup, Asian Cup, or FIFA World Cup will be called a marquee player;" and 
· 14 Indian domestic players, four of which have to be local players from the city the team belongs to. 
 
Stake money 
Team owners’ investments in the ISL are worth having a look. Different teams have shelled out crores to buy foreign players—the date is given below: 
 
Goa: Rs 2.46 crore 
Chennai Titans: Rs 2.34 crore 
Atletico de Kolkata: Rs 2.17 crore
