Regretting that <keyword id="6358883" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Politics">politics</keyword> has acquired a bad name and is scaring away good people, <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> today asked people from all walks of life to join it and not be apprehensive about it. 
 
In his second interaction with students on Teachers' Day celebration after becoming the PM, Modi gave a pep talk asking students not to get deterred by failure in pursuit of their goals while advising parents to refrain from foisting their own career choices on children. 
 
Encouraging students to develop leadership qualities, the PM said he has asked the HRD Ministry to award aptitude certificates rather than character certificates, relflecting the overall personality of students when they leave school. 
 
During a candid interaction with students, Modi lamented, "Politics has acquired a bad name in the country. People fear, they cannot come here and that good people should not join it. This has hurt the country much," he said. 
 
A relaxed Modi responded to a range of questions including on his school days and dress sense during his 105-minute interaction with 800 students and 60 teachers from schools in Delhi who participated in the event at the Manekshaw auditorium here. Students from nine other states joined the programme through video conference. 
 
In democracy, political parties are an important constituent and it is crucial that good, intelligent and talented people from all spheres participate. The more good people join, the better it will be for the nation. 
 "When <keyword id="6355532" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mahatma-Gandhi">Mahatma Gandhi</keyword> spearheaded the freedom movement, people from all walks participated. Therefore, the independence movement was very powerful," he said. 
 
Modi also called upon the bright minds from various professions to devote at least one hour a week or 100 hours annually to teaching students, infusing a new strength in the area of education. 
 
However, he in a lighter vein added that politicians should not do so as they would end up "teaching something else". 
 
When a student from Goa asked him about his favourite sport, Modi quipped, "We all know the games politicians play." He went on to narrate how as a youngster in a family with limited means, he did not pursue any dedicated sport but had learnt how to climb trees. 
 
He had also learnt swimming while going to the village pond to wash his clothes.

India is leapfrogging the US with ambitious renewable energy goals - and it's achieving them.Following the US' departure from the Paris accord, countries like India, China, and the EU have "stepped up to fill the void the US left behind" John Coequyt, the Sierra Club's global climate policy director, told Business Insider on Monday.India <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/dec/21/india-renewable-energy-paris-climate-summit-target">wants</a> to get nearly 60% of its energy from non-fossil fuel sources by 2027, and the country is <a href="http://www.climatechangenews.com/2017/05/15/india-china-track-exceed-paris-climate-pledges/">on track to exceed</a> the goals it set in its commitment to the Paris deal."India in particular has made huge progress in terms of not only meeting but actually being on track to exceed its Paris commitments," Coequyt said, "and as the cost of solar energy and other renewables continues to fall globally, we're only going to see that trend accelerate."So how did India, infamous for its sometimes choking pollution in major cities, cut back its emissions faster than anyone predicted? One word: coal.India has been unabashedly shutting down its coal plants. For example, The Independent reported last week taht Coal India, the world's largest coal company that's responsible for 82% of India's coal, announced it was <a href="http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/coal-india-closes-37-mines-solar-power-sustainable-energy-market-influence-pollution-a7800631.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">closing 37 mines</a> due to the economic non-viability of the fossil fuel. Indian economic coal imports are falling, and <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-04-25/india-s-energy-minister-wants-to-cut-coal-imports-to-nothing">Bloomberg reported</a> the India's energy minister announced the government wants to do-away with coal imports entirely.Dropping coal isn't a new phenomenon in India. From July 2015 to July 2016, India's "coal plant pipeline" fell by 40 gigawatts, according to <a href="http://coalswarm.org/trackers/a-shrinking-coal-plant-pipeline-mide-2016-results-from-the-global-coal-plant-tracker/">Coal Swarm</a>. And under its <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/dec/21/india-renewable-energy-paris-climate-summit-target" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">draft National Electricity Plan</a> from December 2016, the country isn't planning on building any new coal power plants.By virtue of adopting renewables with such gusto, about 25,000 remote villages in India <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/india-villages-leapfrog-to-renewables-2016-3">could never</a> use fossil fuels. They'll sail right past coal and start using solar, hydropower, and biomass as their first sources of electricity.Some in India might be seeing renewable electricity before places in the United States. EPA administrator Scott Pruitt has been reaching out to coal companies, and his senior policy advisor Mandy Gunasekara told a coal conference audience that the EPA would be <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/scott-pruitt-coal-industry-epa-2017-5">there to help coal companies</a>.While the federal government is stepping down from its leadership role on fighting climate change, cities and companies are pledging their support.
