The last straw to save <keyword id="2573" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-India">Air India</keyword> seemed to have drowned. In a major blow to <keyword id="222693" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-National">the national</keyword> carrier’s reviving plans, <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata Group</keyword>, which was supposed to <keyword id="47916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="invest">invest</keyword> in Air India has backed out . 
 "That was 14 years ago (when Tatas were keen on buying back AI.) Not now," <keyword id="1878231" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Sons-Singapore-Airlines">Tata Sons-Singapore Airlines</keyword> (SIA) <keyword id="2688288" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="JV-Vistara">JV Vistara</keyword> <keyword id="6364480" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chairman">chairman</keyword> <keyword id="159032" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prasad-Menon">Prasad Menon</keyword> told <keyword id="105279" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-Times">The Times</keyword> of India. 
 "SIA always says they learnt from AI (of JRD Tata era). We can learn from AI and SIA both (for Vistara)," he added. Menon, who has been asking the government to make it easier for new airlines to fly abroad so that <keyword id="1446" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-airlines">Indian airlines</keyword> can get their rightful share of international traffic to and from India from foreign airlines. Tatas are now in both the full service space with Vistara and low-cost segment with AirAsia India. 
 
The Tatas and SIA had tied up in 2000 when the then BJP government had decided to divest 40% stake in Air India. A year later, SIA had walked out of that partnership due to an "adverse climate" and intense opposition to the privatization of AI. 
 AI was founded by JRD Tata in 1932 as <keyword id="150145" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Airlines">Tata Airlines</keyword>. The airline was later taken over by the government and has over the years fallen from its glory days under JRD's leadership. 
 
As per a news report in The Economic Times, the current NDA government is also struggling with AI and has so far not been able to find any radical solution to revive the airline. It has not even been able to find a chairman for the airline. The current CMD's three-year-term ended last August and he has been given an extension for a year till a replacement is found.

​Tatas refuse to lend a helping hand to Air India

India is set to host the coveted G20 leaders’ summit in New Delhi on September 9 and 10, 2023. The event will have world leaders like US President Joe Biden in attendance and as a result, to enhance security measures in the capital, a number of restrictions have been announced by the government which will make daily commute a hassle starting September 7 when the guests start arriving. Here is what the residents of the National Capital Region (NCR) will have to keep in mind: Commercial vehicles: All types of goods vehicles, commercial vehicles, interstate buses and local city buses such as Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses and Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMTS) buses shall not operate on Mathura Road (beyond Ashram Chowk), Bhairon Road, Purana Quila Road and inside Pragati Maidan Tunnel from 00:00 hours on the intervening night of September 7 to September 10 midnight. Goods vehicles: Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs) and Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs) will not be allowed to enter into Delhi from 21:00 hours on September 7 to September 10. However, goods vehicles carrying Essential Commodities such as milk, vegetables, fruits, medical supplies, etc., having valid ‘No Entry Permissions’ will be permitted. For the entire New Delhi district: The entire area of New Delhi District will be considered as “Controlled Zone-I '' from 05:00 AM, September 8 to September 10 midnight. However, bonafide residents, authorised vehicles and vehicles dealing with housekeeping, catering, waste management, etc. for hotels, hospitals &amp; other important installations in New Delhi District will be allowed. Roads and junctions being treated as “Controlled Zone-II”: For 14 hours on September 10 (midnight to 14:00 hrs) the following roads will have restricted access: W-Point, A-Point, DDU Marg, Vikas Marg (till Noida Link Road – Pusta Road), Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Delhi Gate, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg (from Rajghat to Guru Nanak Chowk), Chaman Lal Marg (from Guru Nanak Chowk to Turkman Gate), Asaf Ali Road (from Turkman Gate to BSZMarg), Maharaja Ranjit Singh Marg (from Barakhamba – Tolstoy crossing to Guru Nanak Chowk on Chaman Lal Marg), Mahatma Gandhi Marg (from Delhi-Meerut Expressway T-Point to Kashmere Gate), IP Flyover, Shanti Van Chowk, Hanuman Setu, ISBT Kashmere Gate and Salimgarh Bypass. No TSR &amp; Taxi: No prepaid or any other taxi will be allowed to enter or ply in New Delhi District from 05:00 hours of September 9 to September 10 midnight. However, movement of following categories of vehicles shall be exempted from the above restrictions: - i) All types of commercial vehicles including buses which are already present in Delhi shall be allowed to move on Ring Road &amp; road network beyond Ring Road towards the borders of Delhi. ii) Taxis carrying bonafide residents and tourists having valid bookings in hotels located inside New Delhi District, and intending to go to New Delhi Railway Station will be allowed to ply on the road network inside New Delhi District. iii) General traffic, except goods vehicles and buses, will be allowed into Delhi from Rajokari Border. Compulsory diversion: Further, the above mentioned traffic will be compulsorily diverted from NH-48 to Rao Tula Ram Marg – Olof Palme Marg. No vehicular movement will be allowed on NH-48 towards Dhaula Kuan. Defence and emergency vehicles: Vehicles of Armed Forces, Paramilitary Forces, Police, Disaster Management, Fire tenders, Ambulance and those engaged in emergency services like road maintenance, maintenance of electric supply, water/sewage line, communication network, etc. will be allowed to move throughout Delhi. The existing prohibition as notified from time to time for different categories of vehicles shall also prevail.

<ul><li>The shorter <keyword id="10114045" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="trade-settlement-cycle" source="Orion">trade settlement cycle</keyword> for all the listed securities in the Indian equity market comes into effect from today, January 27, 2023.</li><li>From now, securities or stocks traded on exchanges will reflect in a person’s demat account in one day rather than after two days that was the norm earlier.</li><li>It is expected to make BTST ie. buy today, sell tomorrow trade, smoother</li><li>India will be the second largest market after China to implement the ‘T+1’ settlement cycle.</li></ul> The Indian stock market has adopted a one-day trade settlement cycle for all listed securities with effect from today, January 27, in an effort to boost liquidity. This makes India one of the few markets to fully adopt the shorter settlement cycle. What this means is that securities or stocks traded on exchanges will reflect in a person’s demat account in one day, compared to two days earlier. From now, all securities including stocks, ETFs, debt instruments, REITs, and InvITs will be moving to the T+1 settlement cycle. “Stocks bought on Friday will be settled as per their new settlement cycle, T+1, and will be available for selling on Monday,” said brokerage firm Zerodha in a bulletin on its website. The process of stock moving to the shorter trade cycle began in February 2022. Gradually, stocks have been added every month, starting with low capitalisation stocks. Now, the last batch of over 250 stocks will get on to this cycle, completing the process. Analysts believe the adoption of a shorter trade settlement cycle is expected to improve liquidity and investor participation in the market. Besides, India will be the second largest market after China to implement the ‘T+1’ settlement cycle. Markets in the US, Europe, Japan and Canada still have a settlement cycle of two days (T+2). “Cycle of money would move faster due to this historic event in Indian capital markets. All issues related to BTST (buy today sell tomorrow) trade like bad delivery, auctions due to T+2 settlement would be reduced to big extent and from hereon we may see more liquidity in the market,” said Prasad Sawant, head of advisory at IIFL Securities The shorter settlement period will provide a seamless trading experience to investors with quick rolling of funds. “It augurs well for the Indian equity markets from a liquidity perspective and it shows how well we have grown on the digital journey to ensure seamless settlements within 24 hours. This will also help the investor in reducing the overall capital requirements with the margins getting released on T+1 day and getting the funds in the bank account within 24 hours of sale of shares. The shift will boost the operational efficiency as the rolling of funds and stocks will be faster,” said Ajay Menon, MD &amp; CEO of broking and distribution at Motilal Oswal Financial Services. SEBI, in a statement, had said that to bring in operational efficiency and ease for market participants. Market experts have expressed their excitement over the positive move. “Starting tomorrow, India will become the first major market to completely move to a T+1 settlement cycle (China is partly T+1). It is crazy how far ahead we are in terms of market infrastructure and safety, even when compared to the developed world,” said Nithin Kamath, founder and CEO at Zerodha. “You might be wondering, why isn't instant settlement like payments possible. This is because most trading volumes on the exchange are from intraday traders who buy and sell stocks without taking delivery or have the stocks to deliver immediately,” explained Kamath in a LinkedIn post. One important thing to note is that the change is applicable for stocks traded on Friday and not those traded on Wednesday. “Due to a change in the settlement cycle, any of these stocks bought on Wednesday, 25th January 2023, will not be available for selling on Friday, 27th January 2023 due to the risk of short delivery and subsequent auction penalty which can be up to 20%. They will be settled by the exchange on Monday as per the old T+2 settlement cycle and will be available for selling on Monday,” informed the brokerage Zerodha on its website. An independent banking analyst Hemindra wrote a report questioning the corporate governance practices of companies which have employed her. “The irony of publicly owned and listed blue-chip companies eagerly seeking Sharma for the prestigious position of independent director on their boards is that she had a poor track record and an unceremonious exit as chief executive officer of Axis Bank,” said a report by banking analyst Hemindra, who wrote a report on her. However, companies have defended their decision to have Sharma on board. Tech Mahindra’s statement on June 14 said, “She has rich experience in banking, insurance and an excellent track record and led the bank on a transformative journey from being primarily a corporate lender to a bank with a strong retail deposit franchise and a balanced lending book.” Hazari disagrees with Tech Mahindra’s take. Though her stint at ICICI-- her first job since she was recruited from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) -- had many successes including building the India’s largest private sector bank’s insurance business, her leadership at Axis Bank had a lot left to desire. E-mails sent to Tech Mahindra, Dr Reddy’s Labs and Tata Global Beverages did not elicit any response, while Sharma did not respond to a request for a call. The Cover-up Sharma’s plan for growth at Axis Bank’ was to increase large-sized corporate lending, that included a bunch of loans to infrastructure companies. Like all bad plans, it worked until it didn’t. The unrelenting chase for growth landed them in a bad soup with a large chunk <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/banking/finance/banking/boxing-on-or-boxed-in-indian-banks-are-splintering-gadfly/articleshow/59788487.cms">of toxic loans</a>. What angered investors and the regulator alike is how the bank tried to sweep it under the carpet. Right after demonetization in 2016, the Enforcement Directorate unearthed a scam where<a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/demonetisation-case-ed-files-first-chargesheet-involving-axis-bank-staff/articleshow/56959891.cms"> Axis Bank staff</a> was passing on unaccounted money into the system. According to Hazari, these are due to poor operational risk controls and other lapses which were prevalent in the bank.
