<keyword id="6354742" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="flipkart" source="Orion">Flipkart</keyword> Group on Thursday said it has acquired electronics recommerce company <keyword id="4160726" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="yaantra" source="Orion">Yaantra</keyword> for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition, said Flipkart, will augment its existing refurbishment business in the smartphone category. "Through the acquisition of Yaantra, we are enhancing our capabilities in a domain that is critical for the growth of the digital economy in India, as well as developing a comprehensive service ecosystem to support its expansion," said Ravi Iyer, Senior Vice President and Head, Corporate Development, Flipkart. Founded in 2013 by Jayant Jha, Ankit Saraf and Anmol Gupta, Yaantra repairs and sells refurbished consumer tech products such as smartphones and laptops. The recommerce market in India is growing at a rapid pace. However, the Indian smartphone refurbishment market is largely unorganised and fragmented, which has posed trust and convenience issues for end consumers. With the acquisition of Yaantra, Flipkart said it will enable greater access to affordable refurbished smartphones, offering value and convenience for the end consumers. The Yaantra team will help Flipkart build capabilities in this domain and accelerate its recommerce scale-up plans. The business will report to Prakash Sikaria, Senior Vice President and Head of Flipkart's Growth Charter. "We believe this association will prove to be a game-changer in making the Indian refurbished market a success and creating an even better experience for our consumers," said Jha, Co-Founder and CEO, Yaantra.

As <keyword id="1729388" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="e-grocery" source="Orion">e-grocery</keyword> platforms pick up momentum in India, <keyword id="6354742" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="flipkart" source="Orion">Flipkart</keyword>'s social commerce offering <keyword id="12587365" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shopsy" source="Orion">Shopsy</keyword> on Tuesday announced that it has started offering grocery as a category on its platform. Leveraging the Flipkart Group's supply chain infrastructure and tech capabilities, Grocery on Shopsy will cater to consumers across 700 cities, spanning over 5,800 pincodes. "Grocery is a key consumer need and we are committed to making e-grocery affordable for consumers and sellers alike. We have been working on reducing the cost of delivering groceries over the last few months. We are happy to announce that we have achieved best in class cost structure which makes us confident of scaling grocery on Shopsy," Prakash Sikaria, Senior Vice President - Growth, Flipkart said in a statement. Grocery on Shopsy will host over 6,000 products across 230 categories - ranging from staples, FMCG, and other dry groceries; matching the selection and range available on <keyword id="7658655" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="flipkart-grocery" source="Orion">Flipkart Grocery</keyword>. With groceries on Shopsy, users can now shop for value groceries by adding and checking out products in their cart or by combining orders for multiple individuals in their network. Users can avail of a flat 5 per cent commission margin that will directly be credited to the linked bank account as well as enjoy up to 50 per cent savings, the company claims. Flipkart's Grocery fulfilment centres including centres in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna and Pune that will be leveraged by Shopsy, have fully digitised processes and product quality checks. These centres have implemented effective quality management systems to ensure the products are traceable from raw materials until they reach the consumer, without losing their freshness. Launched by Flipkart in July 2021 with the aim to make digital commerce accessible across India through a zero-commission marketplace. Shopsy has over 2.5 lakh sellers on the platform who provide 150 million products across 250+ categories and is on track to enable over 25 million online entrepreneurs by 2023. Flipkart's Shopsy launches e-grocery in 700 cities

Backed by festive fervor, the platform has seen 3.6x growth in new app downloads, crossing the 10 million+ mark on the play store, within five months of its launch. With the acquisition, Mech Mocha’s gaming team will be joining Flipkart. Mech Mocha runs a social gaming platform called Hello Play. Social gaming refers to an online game that is usually multiplayer, and is played through social media networks. Founded by Arpita Kapoor and Mohit Rangaraju in 2014, the Bengaluru-based Mech Mocha is backed by investors like Accel Partners, Blume Ventures, and Shunwei Capital. Mech Mocha also has over ten games in seven Indian local languages. The move comes from Flipkart as the e-commerce platform looks at ways to develop new and innovative formats to engage with users on its platform. “We see many first-time e-commerce users come online through formats such as video and games, as they build familiarity with the medium. Our observations of Flipkart GameZone, reflect this trend as we see a strong correlation between casual gamers becoming early shoppers on Flipkart for their digital journey. Through this transaction, we will strengthen our capabilities in the gaming domain with access to Mech Mocha's IP, games and talented team that will help us accelerate our efforts in this space,” said Prakash Sikaria, Vice-President, Flipkart. Flipkart acquires gaming startup Mech Mocha as it looks to tap the social gaming space for more consumers

In August this year, when Flipkart had announced its video platform, it marked an entry into the exact sweet spot where its competitor Amazon was. Prime Video shot to popularity because of its affordable plans which offered all its benefits – free and faster shipping of products, video and music – all in one membership. Amazon Prime also produced Indian shows like Made in Heaven, 4 More Shots Please, tailoring them to local needs. But it's not the only new-age company to venture to an OTT platform.
