What’s the ruckus about? Currently, the OTT platforms fall outside the regulatory framework of the Central Board of Film Certification. This means that, by law, they are not required to get certified by the government and can release their movies and shows without any oversight. OTT platforms, which were formerly under the purview of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), were recently shifted to come under the gambit of the Information and Broadcasting (I&amp;B) Ministry. Recent shows like Taandav, Paatal Lok, Sacred Games, Mirzapur and others have come under scrutiny for hurting religious sentiments and being offensive to specific communities. However, the specific High Courts where these petitions have been filed have rejected or refused to entertain the petitions because they do not fall under their purview. Petitions against OTTs bounce from one High Court to the next In August 2019, for instance, the Karnataka High Court rejected a petition seeking the regulation of OTT platforms saying that the court cannot frame such regulations. More recently, the Allahabad High Court rejected the petition seeking to ban XXX2 and Paatal Lok — both on Amazon Prime Video — for the same reason. The bench headed by Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Siddharth Verma told the petitioner to file his complaint before the relevant central government authority. In a third incident, the Madhya Pradesh High Court also refused to entertain a petition seeking a ban on Amazon Prime Video’s Tandaav. As of February 2020, the High Courts of Punjab, Haryana, Allahabad and Madhya Pradesh are considering petitions which are seeking the regulation of OTT platforms, according to <a href="https://www.livelaw.in/top-stories/ott-regulation-centre-seeks-transfer-of-cases-pending-in-high-courts-to-supreme-court-169723">LiveLaw.</a> If the central government’s petition is accepted, all of these pending cases will be heard by the Supreme Court. And, the ruling against them may be according to the new OTT regulations that the government is poised to put out shortly. India's new OTT regulations are just around the corner and the central government wants to transfer pending cases to the Supreme Court

When the cabinet of PM Modi was shuffled a few days back, the biggest news came in the form of <keyword id="6612" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Smriti-Irani">Smriti Irani</keyword> being replaced by Prakash Javadekar. As soon as the news was announced, people began to speculate the reasons behind this change, one of which was the non-delivery or slow movement on the PMO’s to-do list for higher education. 
 
However, turns out, other than that, she also failed to deliver on the school education to-do list, which was also being closely monitored by the PMO. 
 
As against the five key issues that were undelivered on the higher education side, including the autonomy of IIMs and world-class institutes, school education had a 39 point to-do list, including a focus on improving learning levels, teacher training and vocationalisation. 
 
PM himself reviewed the implementation of actions taken on these issues in a meeting held on March 10. 
 
Even though the ministry was talking about addressing these aspects for over a year now, something concrete was yet to be done. However, some of the steps were taken within the stipulated timelines; however, a majority of steps were yet to be taken, which probably led to Irani’s exit from the ministry.

Aimed at bringing 300 million people online, search giant <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> has partnered content providers along with government agency, <keyword id="541856" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="CDAC">CDAC</keyword> to make regional content available on Internet. 
 It has announced the creation of the Indian Language Internet Alliance (<keyword id="2582343" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="ILIA">ILIA</keyword>), and through this group it is looking at promoting the growth of Indic-language content online. The ILIA is composed of Times Internet Limited, Patrika Group, Process Nine Technologies Pvt Ltd, Prost Innovation Pvt Ltd, Reverie Language Technologies Private Limited, Ver Se Innovation/NewsHunt, Webdunia.com etc in addition to Google. Under this alliance, Google also launched a new website called www.<keyword id="6357660" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="hindi">hindi</keyword>web.com which curates content from these content partners in Hindi language. 
	 

	In order to provide Internet connectivity to 300 million by 2017, Google will also offer voice search service in Hindi. Going forward, Google also plans to include other Indian languages such as Tamil, Marathi and Bengali. 
 

	"India has about 200 million Internet users with about 5 million new users being added every month with 100 percent coming through mobile devices. At this pace, India will overtake the US in terms of number of users in the next 12 months," Google India Vice President and Managing Director Rajan Anandan said.
 

	“However, only 198 million people in the country are estimated to be proficient in English with most of them already on the Internet. The group is committed to promoting the growth of Indic- language content online. The Indian Language Internet Alliance (ILIA) hopes to enable 300 million Indian language speakers to become highly engaged Internet users by 2017," he added.
 

	Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar welcomed this move and expressed hope that if Internet becomes available in Indian languages, then the number of Internet users in the country will go up to 50 crore. “This will help in realisation of digital India initiative of the government. It is an important initiative," he said.

representatives in India The Prime Minister is the executive head of India. He is the chief advisor to the President of India and the Council of Ministers. The Parliament decides the Prime Minister’s salary which is revised from time to time as per the provision found in Article 75(6) of the Indian Constitution. They are paid as per the Article 106 of the Indian Constitution. Apart from the basic salary, an MP will receive ₹70,000 as constituency allowance in addition to many other perks. An MP also gets a secretarial allowance of ₹60,000 per month. In the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, there is a joint committee that looks after the rules regarding the salaries, allowances, and facilities like medical, telephone, daily allowances, and housing expenses of the MPs. In consultation with the Government of India, this committee is constituted from time to time. The Union Budget 2018 announced a sharp increase in the salaries of the President, Vice-President and the Governors in India. The President’s salary increased to ₹5 lakhs per month from ₹1.5 lakhs. The Vice-President’s salary rose to ₹4 lakhs from ₹1.10 lakhs. The state governors saw their salaries increase to ₹3.5 lakhs. The same budget announced a 200% hike in the salaries of the Supreme Court and High Court Judges in India. The budget lifted the Chief Justice’s salary from ₹1 lakh per month to ₹2.8 lakhs per month. The judges of the Supreme Court and the Chief Justices of the High Courts started drawing ₹2.5 lakhs per month from the earlier ₹90,000 per month. The 2018 budget also hiked the MPs’ salaries from ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000. The constituency allowance rose from ₹45,000 to ₹70,000 and the secretarial costs increased to ₹60,000 from ₹45,000.
