Kolkata, May 3 () West Bengal reported two more COVID-19 fatalities, raising the death toll due to the disease to 50 in the state, officials said on Sunday.A total of 41 fresh COVID-19 cases have emerged in West Bengal, according to a bulletin issued by the state health department.Till Sunday afternoon, there were 927 coronavirus cases in the state, it said. The Union health ministry, however, has put the figure at 922.The number of active cases in the state stood at 663, the bulletin said.The officer-in-charge of the Pragati Maidan police station in the eastern parts of the city and a senior state government official have tested positive for the disease and have been admitted to a private hospital, officials said.A total of 22,915 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus in West Bengal so far, they added. New Delhi, Mar 5 () In view of the coronavirus outbreak, India Trade Promotion Organisation on Thursday issued an advisory asking visitors who recently travelled to any of the affected nations to "refrain" from visiting the ongoing Aahar fair in the national capital in larger public interest.In a statement, the ITPO - under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry - also advised visitors and exhibitors to take necessary precautions, while visiting the ongoing Aahar 2020 (March 3-7) - the International Food and Hospitality Fair at Pragati Maidan."Those visitors desiring to visit this fair; who have recently travelled to any of the affected regions or countries are advised to refrain from visiting Aahar in larger public interest. Visitors are also suggested to wear face mask in case of cold / cough symptoms, while taking other hygiene precautions," the ITPO said.The deadly coronavirus has spread rapidly outside China, where it first emerged late last year, and has now reached some 80 countries and territories.More than 95,000 people have been infected and over 3,200 have died worldwide. New Delhi, Jun 12 () Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Friday constituted a high-level committee, which includes Indian Council of Medical Research Director-General Balram Bhargava, to suggest effective steps to deal with COVID-19 outbreak in the national capital, sources said. Baijal is the chairman of Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). The six-member panel also includes two members of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria, they said. The move came two days after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and both the leaders discussed the COVID-19 situation in Delhi. With 34,867 COVID-19 cases so far, Delhi is in dire straits with the city recording 1,877 cases on Thursday, the highest single-day spike yet. Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has said that it's a "war-like situation" and the city government will try every means available to get more doctors and medical staff to meet the ever-increasing requirement. "The high-level panel will advise the DDMA on various aspects of COVID-19 management, including integration of measures being taken by various agencies for effective mitigation. It would also help in formulating a practical approach to effectively deal with the COVID-19 crisis," the source said. Kejriwal had recently claimed that Delhi would need 1.5 lakh beds by July 31 if people from other states start coming to the national capital for treatment. Another panel constituted by the lieutenant governor has suggested using Pragati Maidan, Talkatora Indoor Stadium, Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium and JLN Stadium as makeshift COVID-19 facility to deal with the surge in number of cases. Delhi LG forms high-level panel to suggest measures to tackle COVID-19 outbreak in city

New Delhi, Nov 25 () The paper industry in India is likely to grow 12 per cent per annum for next five years and the overall paper consumption is expected to increase to 24 million tonne in 2024-25 from the present 15 million tonne. 
The industry is witnessing a transformation and several industry leaders are investing in capex to expand their capacity to meet the expected demand growth, said Indian Paper &amp; Manufacturers Association (IPMA) in a statement.
Besides, IPMA expects consolidation in the industry in the coming years as players would take up mergers and acquisitions to compete with each other.
"The paper industry is going through a transformation phase and few big paper companies are doing expansion to meet their region or product or category-specific demand. Overall paper consumption is projected to increase to 24 million tonne in 2024-25 from 15 million tonne currently," said IPMA VP J P Narain.
Moreover, the manpower-driven industry is expected to generate employment opportunities, both direct and indirect, it added.
To promote such opportunities, 'Paperex2019' -- the world's biggest paper show will be organised in the city from December 3-6 2019.
Around 30,000 business visitors, 600 plus participants from 29 countries are expected at the show to be held at Pragati Maidan here. The paper show is organised by London stock Exchange Hyvegroup PLC. KRH KRH ANU

India likely to see paper consumption of 24 MT in FY'25

New Delhi, Apr 20 () The Delhi High Court Monday directed the Delhi government to continue with the steps to ensure there is no dearth of food, water, electricity and sanitation requirements in the area where the inhabitants of Yamuna Pushta have been relocated for the lockdown period to contain the spread of coronavirus.A bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad, conducting the hearing through video conferencing, said it was satisfied with the steps taken by the authorities to ensure that the homeless persons, who were earlier stranded at Yamuna Pushta, and those at the Labour camp near Sarai Kale Khan are being supplied food and other facilities on a regular basis during the lockdown period.The court disposed of a petition seeking direction to the Delhi government, DUSIB, Delhi Police and Labour Department to provide facilities to thousands of homeless persons, daily wage workers, stranded and living in the open along the bank of river Yamuna at Kashmere Gate here who are without any shelter, toilet or medical facility.Petitioner Sunil Kumar Aledia claimed that payment was being demanded for using public toilet facilities in and around homeless shelters and slum clusters.He further claimed that construction workers of a company, engaged in a Pragati Maidan project, are also stranded without any proper provision for their food at the labour camp near Sarai Kale Khan.The court was informed by Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Jain, representing the Delhi government and various other authorities, that out of 4,229 inhabitants living at Yamuna Pushta, from April 14-16, 3,600 have been shifted to different schools in Delhi, 600 have been shifted to the Yamuna Sports Complex.Another 358 workers have been moved to shelter homes being run by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).He added that DUSIB has arranged make-shift shelters for them at whichever place they have been shifted to and besides this, arrangements have been made for providing free food, potable water, mobile toilet vans, sanitation and medical facilities.The ASG said none of the daily wage workers are stranded and living in the open at Yamuna pushta, as asserted by the petitioner. After noting the submissions, the bench said it was satisfied that all the three issues raised in the petition have been satisfactorily addressed by the concerned authorities and there is no reason to keep the matter pending."Accordingly, the present petition is disposed of with directions issued to the respondents (authorities) to continue taking necessary steps to ensure that there is no dearth of food, potable water, electricity and other requirements of sanitation in the area where the inhabitants of Yamuna Pushta have now been relocated or the Labour Camps at Sarai Kale Khan throughout the lockdown period," the bench said.Regarding the claim that charges were being taken for using toilet facilities, the government said since January 2018, DUSIB has been providing toilet facilities in JJ clusters without levying anyCharges and none of the municipal bodies are charging anything during the lockdown period for such facilities. HC asks authorities to ensure no dearth of food, water for homeless workers during lockdown

New Delhi, Nov 14 () The government has so far mopped up Rs 6 lakh crore or less than 50 per cent of the total tax collection target of Rs 13.35 lakh crore for the current fiscal, a senior official said.
Efforts are being made to achieve the target set in the Budget, Central Board of Direct Taxes Chairman P C Mody said after inauguration of the Taxpayers Lounge at Pragati Maidan here.
"During the beginning of the year, we were given the tax collection (target) of Rs 13.35 lakh crore. Of this, we have already collected Rs 6 lakh crore so far," he said.
Refunds due to the tax payers are done swiftly, he said, adding that the refunds have gone up 20 per cent compared to the last fiscal.
"Efforts are made towards tax collection and I have full confidence that we will reach the target set in the Budget," Mody said.
He also said that the tax payer services is one of the focus area of CBDT. Keeping this in mind, a member has been appointed for tax payer services.
The income tax department has also launched a faceless e-assessment scheme to eliminate interface between an assessing officer and a taxpayer.
To begin with, 58,322 income tax cases have been selected under the National e-Assessment Center (NeAC).
There are pressure on the government in meeting revenue target due to sagging economy. The economy has hit six-year low of 5 per cent during the first quarter of the current fiscal.
It is estimated that growth in the second quarter to remain below 5 per cent. The overall growth of the current fiscal likely to remain subdued and various estimate indicates that the GDP growth to be lower than 5.5 per cent, putting pressure on the tax collection.
Besides, the government decision to lower corporate tax rate will have revenue implication of Rs 1.45 lakh crore and rollback of enhance surcharge and other measures will also bring down tax collection.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on September 20 announced a cut in corporate income taxes for domestic companies to 22 per cent from 30 per cent previously. This would bring effective corporate tax rate, including all additional levies, to about 25.2 per cent, for companies which are not receiving any incentives or exemptions.
New manufacturing companies formed after October 1 will enjoy a 15 per cent (effective rate of 17 per cent) corporate income tax rate, against 25 per cent previously.
The move is estimated to result in Rs 1.45 lakh crore in revenue loss for the government during 2019-20.
Subsequent to this, there have been demands for a reduction in income tax rates for individuals as well so as to put more money in the hands of the common man for a consumption-led revival of the economy. India's economic growth had slipped to a six-year low of 5 per cent in the April-June quarter and the revival may take a few quarters despite announcements to boost real estate and financial sectors. CBDT mops up Rs 6 lakh cr in direct tax collection so far

New Delhi, Jul 12 () Delhi's daily COVID-19 case count on Sunday remained below the 2,000-mark for the second consecutive day and with the recovery rate improving to nearly 80 per cent, authorities have for now put on hold plans to use stadiums as makeshift coronavirus care facilities. In the last 24 hours, the national capital has recorded 1,573 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 1,12,494 in the city, while the death toll mounted to 3,371 after 37 fatalities were reported, according to the latest Delhi health department bulletin. This is the first time in July that the daily case count has remained below the 2,000-mark for two consecutive days. On Saturday, 1,781 cases were detected. The COVID-19 recovery rate improved to 79.97 per cent on Sunday, as per the bulletin. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that Delhi has been able to minimise deaths of coronavirus patients in home isolation through pulse oximeters, which he termed as "suraksha kavach'' (protective shield). The bulletin said as many as 89,968 patients have recovered, been discharged or migrated so far, while there are 19,155 active cases in the city. The Delhi government has asked all district magistrates (DMs) to document initiatives taken by them in their respective areas to deal with the COVID-19 situation. For instance, the South Delhi district administration has set up a 10,000-bed Sardar Patel COVID Care Centre, one of the "largest" such facilities in the world, at the Radha Soami Satsang Beas. Similarly, a 500-bed COVID care facility was set up at the Commonwealth Games Village in East Delhi. In North West district, railway coaches were converted into insolation wards for COVID-19 patients. The DMs have been asked to also mention the difficulties they faced while executing such initiatives. "The need was felt to showcase all such initiatives taken by the district magistrates so that their efforts are reflected in documents. All the DMs have been asked to make proper documentation of these initiatives introduced by them to deal with the COVID-19 situation," an official told . Seeing the good recovery rate, authorities in the city have for now put on hold their plans to use stadiums as makeshift COVID-19 care facilities. Last month, a Delhi government panel, constituted by Lt Governor Anil Baijal, had suggested to use Pragati Maidan, Talkatora Indoor Stadium, Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium and JLN Stadium, Thyagaraj Indoor Stadium and Dhyanchand National Stadium for the purpose. "Seeing the current situation, there is no need to convert stadiums into COVID-19 care facilities. We can use them (stadiums) for such facility, but it would be unnecessary step because many people are under home-isolation and recovering from the virus," an official in the east Delhi district administration said. He said that if such need arises in the coming days, the district authorities will use stadiums as makeshift COVID-19 care facilities. "We are closely monitoring the situation. As of now, there is no need to use any stadium for COVID-19 care facility," an official in the south district administration said. On Saturday, a government study said that there has been a "sharp decline" in daily fatality figures in the past two weeks. Terming pulse oximeters as ''suraksha kavach'', Kejriwal said these have helped minimise COVID-19 deaths of patients under home isolation in Delhi. The Delhi government has provided pulse oximeters to asymptomatic and mild symptom coronavirus patients undergoing home isolation. "Delhi has been able to minimise deaths of coronavirus patients in home isolation through this suraksha kavach called pulse oximeter. If patients detect their oxygen is falling they reach out to us for help. We immediately send oxygen concentrators to their home or take them to a hospital," Kejriwal said in a tweet. A pulse oximeter is a device that measures blood oxygen level. Coronavirus patients need to be hospitalised if their oxygen level reaches 90 per cent or below, according to health guidelines. A study of COVID-19 deaths reported in the last fortnight (from June 24), conducted by the Delhi government, has revealed that no one under home isolation has died in first week of July. The total number of daily deaths too have shown a sharp decline, the report said. In a sign of revival of economic activities post the coronavirus-forced lockdown in Delhi, over 23,000 vehicles were registered in the city in June, up from just 8,455 a month ago, transport department officials said on Sunday. Registration of cars and two-wheelers picked up after the restrictions due to the lockdown were relaxed, they said. "The registration of vehicles picked up after ''Unlock 1'' was declared, and total registrations were 23,940 in the month," said an official. Official data shows that registrations in June included 18,741 two-wheelers (motorcycles and scooters) and 4,755 four-wheelers, he said. Some restaurants reopened a month ago after being allowed to resume their business post the COVID-19 lockdown, but are still grappling with decreased sales, staff shortages and few dine-in customers. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, many restaurants have not commenced dine-in facilities and are relying on takeaways to drive their business. According to Rohit Aggarwal, director of Lite Bite Foods, post ''Unlock'', the situation has not been "very motivating, walk-in numbers are extremely low and the operational cost is soaring". "The highest number of dine-in guests we have served on a single day after opening following the COVID-19 lockdown is just 15 at Punjab Grill's Saket outlet. We are hoping to serve the same number of guests we had before very soon and are positive that this number will go up eventually. "We are making just 20 per cent sales of what we used to do.
