"In just one year, about 28 crore workers from 400 areas have been registered on the portal. This has especially benefited construction workers, migrant labourers, and domestic workers," he said. The aim of the scheme is to facilitate universal access to banking facilities for all households. The scheme wishes to ensure at least one bank account to every household besides promoting financial literacy, pension facility, insurance and access to credit. PMJDY provides unbanked individuals easy access to banking services combined with an awareness regarding financial products by creating financial literacy programs. The additional facilities these bank accounts carry are RuPay debit card, accident cover of Rs 1 lakh, overdraft facility to those showing up satisfactory credit history over six months. <keyword id="2750528" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pradhan-Mantri-Jeevan-Jyoti-Bima-Yojana">Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana</keyword> (PMJJBY) The PMJJBY is provided for persons in between 18 and 50 years with a bank account. Aadhaar is the primary KYC for the bank account. The persons consenting to benefit from this scheme must enable auto debit from their account. This scheme provides Rs 2 lakh risk coverage in the event of the death of the individual on any reason. The annual premium for this scheme is Rs 330 which will be auto-debited from the subscriber’s bank account before 31st May of every year during the coverage period. <keyword id="2747429" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pradhan-Mantri-Suraksha-Bima-Yojana">Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana</keyword> (PMSBY) Available to people between the age group 18 and 70 years, the individuals must have a bank account to benefit from this program. This scheme provides a risk coverage of Rs 2 lakh for accidental death and Rs 1 lakh for partial disability. The annual premium of Rs 12 per year is auto debited from the individual’s bank account through auto debit facility. <keyword id="2746514" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Atal-Pension-Yojana">Atal Pension Yojana</keyword> (APY) APY is available for all persons with a savings bank or post office savings bank account between the age group of 18 and 40 years. The subscribers to this program will get a guaranteed monthly pension of Rs 1,000 or Rs 2,000 or Rs 3,000 or Rs 4,000 or Rs 5,000. In the event of his death before 60 years, the pension will be given to his spouse till the original subscriber would have otherwise attained the age of 60. Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana There are three sub-schemes under this program. Shishu gives a loan of Rs 50,000; Kishore gives a loan anywhere between Rs 50,000 and Rs 5 lakhs and Tarun gives a loan anywhere between Rs 5 lakhs to Rs 10 lakhs. These loans do not need collaterals. This scheme intends to create the first generation of aspiring entrepreneurs and existing small businesses that wish to expand. Stand Up India Scheme The Stand Up India scheme provides a bank loan between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 1 crore to at least one borrower from the scheduled caste or scheduled tribe category and at least one woman borrower per bank branch for the purpose of setting up greenfield enterprises in any one of the sectors including manufacturing, services or trading. Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana This scheme is aimed at benefiting persons beyond the age of 60 against a full fall in their income due to some unexpected market conditions. Under this scheme an initial lump sum payment of any amount between Rs 1,50,000 to Rs 7,50,000 will entitle the individual for a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 per month to Rs 5,000 per month depending on the payment made. A guaranteed return of 8% per annum will be paid to the individual on a monthly basis.

This is an accident insurance scheme that provides an accident and disability cover for a period of one year and this can be renewed annually. Enrolment for the program This cover is for a period of one year between June 1 and May 31 of the subsequent year. The subscriber must give the option of joining the scheme by opting for auto renewal by May 31 of every year. Those who wish to keep the policy alive for more years must give their assent for auto debit before May 31 for the further years. Coverage offered by Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) The PMSBY provides a risk cover of Rs 2 lakh in case of accidental death or permanent total disability. Rs one lakh is provided towards permanent partial disability. Permanent partial disability can be understood as the permanent loss of two eyes or both hands or feet or loss of an eyesight or the ability to use a hand or foot. The cover provided under PMSBY can be used in addition to any other insurance plan the subscriber has got. This is not a mediclaim kind of policy as it does not cover hospitalization expenses after suffering an accident which can result in a disability or injury. What it includes and excluded The PMSBY scheme covers accidents, death and disability due to natural calamities and other reasons. Death due to suicide is not covered by this scheme. Death due to murder is however covered. Partial disability without a permanent disability or loss of one hand or foot is not covered. Eligibility criteria All those persons who have a single or joint bank account and belonging to the age group of 18 and 70 years can join PMSBY <keyword id="6406875" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="life-insurance">life insurance</keyword> scheme. If the individual has multiple bank accounts with different banks, they can join the scheme through a single account only. A joint account entails all the account holders to join the scheme. Even NRIs can join the scheme. In the event of a claim by such persons, the benefit will only be settled in Indian currency. Premium amount payable The premium amount for this policy is only Rs 12 per person per year. This will be deducted from the individual’s bank account through auto-debit facility in a single installment on or before June 1 in a year. If the auto debit happens on any other date after June 1, the cover will start from the date of auto debit of the premium. If an individual has joined the scheme through multiple accounts, the benefit will only be disbursed through a single account with the other premiums being forfeited. Validity of the cover The accidental cover will automatically terminate in the following cases. The subject attaining the age of 70. Insufficient funds to keep the policy alive or closure of the bank account.

The new rules are set to come into effect next month. </li></ul>The Indian government’s flagship crop insurance scheme, the <keyword id="3205320" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pradhan-Mantri-Fasal-Bima-Yojana">Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana</keyword> (PMFBY), was launched to great fanfare in 2016. Under the scheme, <keyword id="45092" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="farmers">farmers</keyword> were required to pay only 2% of the premium expenses, with the rest being borne in equal measure by the central and state governments. However, it has not exactly been the success story it was envisioned to be. The problems are manifold. State governments haven’t transmitted data to insurers on time, Claims payments have been delayed, sometimes for <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/business/economy/pradhan-mantri-fasal-bima-yojana-farmers-wait-up-to-18-months-for-claims-5347671/">as long as 18 months</a>, and enrollment numbers are declining. Around 48.4 million farmers signed up for the scheme in 2017-18, a 16% drop from the previous year. In light of this, the government has announced a number of changes to the scheme with the view of resolving the aforementioned problems. The first action is punitive in nature. The government has said it will penalise insurance companies and state governments for the delayed payment of claims. While insurers will face a 12% interest penalty if they don’t settle with farmers within two months of the prescribed deadline, state governments will also be hit with a 12% charge if they don’t transfer subsidies to insurers within three months. Secondly, the government has also imposed enrollment targets on insurers. They will be required to increase enrollments of non-loanee farmers by 10% on an annual basis. Unlike loanee farmers, non-loanee farmers do not receive subsidised crop loans as a result of a pre-existing scheme. Thirdly, to increase awareness of the programme, insurance companies have to spend 0.5% of the revenue earned in gross premiums on advertising and publicity for the scheme. The government has effectively outsourced its responsibility of promoting its own programme. Finally, the Indian government has also increased the risks that can be covered under the scheme. Farmers will now get coverage for hailstorms, crop fires, damage from animals, landslides and rainstorms. More importantly, farmers will now get 72 hours instead of 48 hours to inform state governments about crop damage. The new rules are set to come into effect from the beginning of the rabi crop season next month. Earlier this year, in February, the Ministry of <keyword id="6355165" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="agriculture">Agriculture</keyword> also launched <a href="http://ficci.in/pressrelease-page.asp?nid=3025">an online portal </a>for the scheme. The new portal was developed to facilitate a quicker settlement process by streamlining communication between state governments and companies as well as resolving discrepancies and lapses.

India's government has modified its crop insurance scheme to attract more farmers

Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> will review next week the implementation status of some key decisions taken by the Union Cabinet, including those taken way back in July 2014. 

	Scheduled for February 17, this will be the second such review meeting that Modi will undertake with the Council of Ministers in just about three weeks.
 

	The 27 decisions of the Cabinet and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs whose implementation status would be reviewed include the amendments to the Factories Act and the Apprentices Act, which were cleared over one and a half years ago in July 2014, sources told PTI.
 

	PM Modi had chaired a similar meeting of the Council of Ministers on January 27 as well.
 Other decisions slated for implementation status review are setting up of a <keyword id="974618" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Credit-Guarantee-Fund">Credit Guarantee Fund</keyword> for providing guarantees to loans extended under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, operationalisation of Budget announcement of 2015-16 on the Atal Pension Yojana, the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana. The prime minister will also check progress in the <keyword id="2473706" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pradhan-Mantri-Jan-Dhan-Yojana">Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana</keyword>, the <keyword id="6562839" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swacch-Bharat-Mission">Swacch Bharat Mission</keyword> for urban areas, the Housing for All by 2022 mission, the <keyword id="946830" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Skill-Development-Mission">National Skill Development Mission</keyword>, the National Health Mission and the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana. 

	Other such decisions relate to the National Ayush Mission, amendment to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Bill, 2014, setting up three new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Mangalagiri, Nagpur and Kalyani and strengthening of the drug regulatory system.
 

	The decisions relating to setting up of six new IITs and IIMs, amendment to the Payment of Bonus Act, 1965, and the nationwide celebration of 125th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar will also figure in the status review.

PM Narendra Modi to review implementation status of Cabinet decisions for the second time in 3 weeks

According to the information provided by the <keyword id="20039511" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="National-Medical-Commission" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="National Medical Commission" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="National Medical Commission">National Medical Commission</keyword> (NMC), there are 13,86,136 <keyword id="20522855" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="allopathic-doctors" source="keywords">allopathic doctors</keyword> registered with the State Medical Councils and the National Medical Commission (NMC) as on July, 2024, Patel said in a written reply. "Assuming 80% availability of registered allopathic doctors and around 5.65 lakh <keyword id="20522856" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="AYUSH-doctors" source="keywords">AYUSH doctors</keyword>, the doctor-population ratio in the country is around 1:836 which is better than the WHO standard of 1:1000," Patel stated. She also said that there are 731 medical colleges in the country with an annual intake of 1,12,112 <keyword id="20585495" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MBBS-seats" source="keywords">MBBS seats</keyword> as of now. Further, there are 72,627 <keyword id="22645227" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PG-seats" source="keywords">PG seats</keyword> as of date, she said. Measures taken by the government to augment medical education facilities and to improve medical standards include <keyword id="22366985" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Centrally-Sponsored-Scheme" source="keywords">Centrally Sponsored Scheme</keyword> (CSS) for establishment of new medical colleges by upgrading district/referral hospitals, under which 157 new medical colleges have been approved and 109 are already functional. Under the CSS, medical colleges have been upgraded to increase the number of MBBS (UG) and PG seats. Support has been provided for an increase of 4,977 MBBS seats in 83 colleges with an approved cost of Rs 5,972.20 crore, 4,058 PG seats in phase-I in 72 colleges with an approved cost of Rs 1,498.43 crore and 4,000 PG seats in phase-II in 65 colleges with an approved cost of Rs 4,478.25 crore. Besides, under "upgradation of government medical colleges by construction of super specialty blocks" component of Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), 75 projects have been approved, of which 66 projects are complete. Under the Central Sector Scheme for setting up of new AIIMS, 22 AIIMS have been approved and undergraduate courses have started in 19 of these. Also, DNB qualification has been recognised for appointment as teaching faculty, to take care of shortage of faculty and there has been enhancement of age limit for appointment, extension or re-employment against posts of teachers/dean/principal/ director in medical colleges up to 70 years. <h2>Claims of Indians being unfit "extrapolated" </h2>Furthermore, Union Health Minister J P Nadda told the Lok Sabha today that WHO's recent report stating that half of India's adult population is physically unfit relied on data collected only from three states and one UT, and the results were extrapolated through a modelling technique indicating inbuilt methodological issues. Responding to a question, Nadda said the WHO defines 'sufficient physical activity' as 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activities per week (brisk walk, lifting light load etc.) or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity per week (running, digging, construction work, outdoor games etc.). The activity level so quantified is based on a self-reported response to questions about physical activity lasting at least for 10 minutes. The National NCD Monitoring Survey of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) 2020 has assessed, inter alia, physical activity amongst Indian adults and found that 58.7% had conformed to the WHO recommendations, Nadda told the Lok Sabha.

To promote smart farming, the government promotes startups in the agriculture sector and nurtures agri-entrepreneurs. The 'Per Drop More Crop' component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sichai Yojana (PMKSY-PDMC) aims to increase water use efficiency at the farm level through micro irrigation technologies like drip and sprinkler irrigation systems. PMKSY is a scheme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The <keyword id="87560" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Council-of-Agricultural-Research" source="Orion">Indian Council of Agricultural Research</keyword> (ICAR) promotes innovation, extension and education in agriculture. A total of 1,575 field crop varieties were released for different agricultural crops during 2014-21. During 2014-21, 91.43 crore agri-advisories were provided to farmers through mobiles. According to the World Bank's collection of development indicators, employment rate in the Indian agriculture sector stood at 41.5 per cent in 2020. From a socio-economic standpoint, agriculture is a vital sector which requires focus and awareness at all levels. According to India Brand Equity Foundation, the rising population and changing diets have created a huge pressure on land in India. Farmers are struggling to keep up as crop yields level off, soil degradation rises, water shortage increases, biodiversity declines, and natural calamities become more frequent. Furthermore, agriculture accounts for almost 14 per cent of India's total greenhouse gas emissions. In the meantime, the NITI Aayog (erstwhile Planning Commission of India) conducted a study entitled "Efficacy of Minimum Support Prices on farmers", in 2016, which found, among other things, that MSP declared by the government has encouraged 78 per cent of the farmers covered under the study for adopting improved methods of farming such as high yielding varieties of seeds, organic manure, chemical fertilizer, pesticides and improved methods of harvesting etc. Additionally, oilseeds, pulses and copra of Fair Average Quality (FAQ) are procured from registered farmers under Price Support Scheme of the umbrella scheme of Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanraksHan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA), as per its prescribed guidelines. The Indian national Budget for 2018-19 had announced the pre-determined principle to keep Minimum Support Price or MSP at levels of one-and-half times of the cost of production. Accordingly, government has increased the MSPs for all mandated Kharif (including wheat), Rabi and other commercial crops with a return of at least 50 per cent over all India weighted average cost of production from the agricultural year 2018-19. Moreover, India's National Crop Insurance Portal (NCIP) is the only source of enrolment for Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), on which farmer applications from various designated sources including banks/financial institutions are entered. Specific cut-off dates have been prescribed for enrolment of farmers, debit of premium, remittance of farmers' premium to concerned insurance company and uploading of data of farmers on NCIP. Smart farming can prove to be a game changer in the coming days

New Delhi, Jan 22 () The Finance Ministry will showcase achievements of the financial inclusion drive through a tableau during the Republic Day parade on January 26.
 The Defence Ministry has selected the design of Department of Financial Services (DFS) of Ministry of Finance for taking part in the parade.
 Besides DFS, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, NDRF Ministry of Home Affairs, CPWD Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and Ministry of Shipping will also participate in the Republic Day parade, according to a Defence Ministry release.
 Financial inclusion programme initiated in mission mode since August 2014 to ensure access to financial services - banking/ savings &amp; deposit accounts, remittance, credit, insurance, pension.
Under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana as many as 37.87 crore accounts have been opened with total deposit of Rs 1.12 lakh crore.
 India's financial inclusion efforts have won recognition from the World Bank as their data indicated that 55 per cent of new bank accounts were opened are from India.
As per the World Bank Global Findex Report 2017, adult bank account holders in India increased to 80 per cent in 2017 as compared to 53 per cent in 2014 and 35 per cent in 2011.
The report acknowledged impact of government policy in reducing gaps in bank account ownership between rich and poor to 5 per cent in 2017, down from 15 per cent in 2014.
 Besides, the government also initiated insuring the uninsured. Under this, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana was launched in 2015.
 The PMJJBY offers life insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh in case of death due to any reason to people in the age group of 18-50 years having a bank or post office account, who give their consent to join or enable auto-debit of premium of Rs 330 per annum.

New Delhi, Dec 9 () As many as 5.91 crore people have been enrolled under the
Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and 15.47 crore people enlisted under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) since the launch of the two social security schemes in 2015, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
The minister said that for creating a universal social security system for all Indians,
especially the poor and the under-privileged, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the two schemes in the insurance sector on pan-India basis on May 9, 2015 in Kolkata.
"As per information furnished by banks, 5.91 crore people have been enrolled under PMJJBY and 15.47 crore people enrolled under the PMSBY as on March 31, 2019," she said during the Question Hour.

LIC IPO – All your doubts cleared

New Delhi, Jan 17 () Progress across major development schemes in India, including education, health and nutrition among others, remains constrained due to sub-optimal utilisation of available funds, especially at the district level, according to a recent study by Tata Trust.
The study by Tata Trust and Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability (CBGA) stressed that India needs to improve utilisation of budgetary resources, across all levels of governance, given the limited fiscal space available to the government.
"Progress across major development schemes in India, including education, health and nutrition, water and sanitation, agriculture and rural development, livelihood, among others, remains constrained due to sub-optimal utilisation of available funds, especially at the district level," Tata Trust said in a statement.
According to statement, pressing challenges related to staff shortages, their capacity, transparency and
accountability in public financial management, monitoring have not received adequate attention.
"These need to be addressed urgently. There are also concerns with respect to the quality in fund utilisation across schemes," it said.
The 2-year study focused on ten social sector schemes including Sarva Shikshya Abhiyan (SSA), Mid-Day Meal (MDM), National Health Mission (NHM), Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) and Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).
 Other schemes included National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employement Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) in five districts across of Balasore and Bolangir in Odisha, Chandrapur in Maharashtra, East Singhbhum in Jharkhand, and Krishna in Andhra Pradesh. Progress of top development schemes remains constrained in India: Study

Ranchi, Mar 3 () The Jharkhand government on Tuesday proposed to set up a state farmers relief fund this kharif season, state finance minister Rameshwar Oraon said while presenting budget for 2020-21 in the assembly.He said a sum of Rs 100 crore has been earmarked for the proposed relief fund.Oraon presented an estimated Rs 86,370 crore budget for the financial year 2020-21 in the house, the first one of the new JMM-Congress-RJD ministry headed by Hemant Soren."There is a proposal to set up Jharkhand Rajya Kisan Rahat Kosh (farmers relief fund) from this Kharif season, changing the form of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)," Oraon said.The minister, however, did not elaborate about the proposal.The Soren-led government came to power in Jharkhand after elections in November-December last year.PMFBY was introduced on January 14, 2016 with an aim to reduce agricultural distress and farmers welfare without having to affect hefty hikes in the minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural products due to monsoonfluctuation induced risks.Oraon said in his budget speech that out of the total budget, Rs 73,315.94 crore is under the head of revenue expenditure, while Rs 13,054.06 crore on the capital expenditure.He also said that the state government has decided to introduce "Short Term Agriculture Loan Relief Yojana", underlining Rs 2,000 crore for 2020-21 fiscal for the scheme.Another Rs 200 crore has been allocated under the "Paddy Production &amp; Market Accessibility," the finance minister said.Announcing a new scheme Modern Diagnostic &amp; Other Testing Lab along with ambulance facilities for animals, Oraon said women from the above poverty line would be connected with the ongoing scheme of distribution of cows along with the BPL families.There is also a proposal to give an additional Rs 50,000 to the beneficiaries under "Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana" and allowing them to construct houses as per their choice.The minister also said that Rs 4,199 crore has been earmarked for constructing five thousand housing units under "Baba Saheb Ambedkar Yojana" in the new financial year.The government has set a target to connect one lakh families under "Livelihood Promotion" scheme in paddy cultivation, poultry, vegetables and medicinal herbs, he said.Under the "Mukhya Mantri Visesh Chhatra Vriti Yojana" (Chief Ministers Special Students Scholarship), he said that the government has earmarked Rs 30 crore with a proposal to give scholarship to all the students, from Class I to Class XII of the government schools.The minister said that there is also a proposal of Rs 1,660.77 crore to ensure regular honorarium to para teachers.The honorarium of Cook-cum-Sahaika engaged in preparations of midday meals will be increased by Rs 500, taking their monthly payment to Rs 2,000.The government has also taken several measures in the sectors of health, industry, tourism, skill development and among others.
