Delhi continued to battle with air pollution for the 10th consecutive day post-Diwali as a dense layer of smog blanketed parts of the national capital on Sunday. Several parts of the national capital recorded very poor air quality levels on Sunday morning as per the data issued by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR-India). Today morning, Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 351, Bawana 383, CRRI Mathura Road 323, Dwarka Sector 8 at 341, IGI Airport at 326, ITO 328, Lodhi Road 319, Mundka at 358, Najafgarh at 341, New Moti Bagh at 394, Okhla phase-2 at 339, RK Puram at 368, and Wazirpur at 366, as per SAFAR-India data. As of 5 pm on November 10, Delhi's AQI stood at 334, with Anand Vihar at 353, Dilshad Garden at 262, and Jahangirpuri at 377. For tomorrow, AQI in adjoining cities of Noida and Gurugram is forecasted to be at 208.92 and 77.51, respectively. Multiple visuals from Delhi's Kartavya Path showed the area surrounding India Gate engulfed by a layer of smog. The AQI in the area was recorded at 357 as of 7 am. High-rise buildings were also covered in smog in the Kalindi Kunj and surrounding locality, as the AQI was recorded as 323 in the area. An AQI is considered "poor" between '200 and 300', "very poor" at '301 and 400', "severe" at '401-450," and 450 and above is "severe plus." As the air pollution levels in the national capital reach "very poor," doctors say that even people with no history of respiratory diseases are suffering from breathing issues. Dr. Nikhil Modi, Senior Consultant for Respiratory Critical Care at Apollo Hospital, told ANI that apart from the regular patients, those who haven't had any respiratory issues in the past are showing up with symptoms such as runny noses, sneezing, coughing, and having increasing difficulties breathing. As it is, respiratory illnesses in the national capital are estimated to have shot up by around 15-20%. The Apollo doctor further suggested that the government close the schools for children as they remain vulnerable. Whenever the pollution levels have gone beyond a certain limit, the government has opted to close the schools, Dr. Modi said. "For the last few years, we have been seeing that the government has taken action. Whenever this pollution level has gone beyond a certain limit, they have opted to close the schools. This is important because children are from a vulnerable group. As adults, we are masked and can protect ourselves better, but children usually are not that effectively taking these measures. Secondly, their lungs are still in developing stages, so they are bound to have more harm due to this pollution," the doctor told ANI. Siddharth Singhal, Head of Health Insurance, Policybazaar.com, notes that while most standard health plans in India cover pollution-related ailments, it is always advised to also go for an OPD plan along with a health insurance plan to cover consultations, medications, and diagnostic tests that may be required frequently due to pollution. "Pollution levels in Delhi-NCR and some other parts of India have shot up post Diwali. Effects of this are very evident in the form of sore throats and breathing problems, among others. This can also result in respiratory ailments and chronic conditions like asthma, bronchitis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), pneumonia, and severe cases of respiratory or bronchial obstruction. Danny Stacy, head of talent intelligence at Indeed UK, said that a lack of transparency from employers, particularly about salary and benefits, is contributing to this rise in ghosting. Starting October 1st, 2024, your PPF account is set to undergo massive changes, thanks to the new regulations, which were notified by the government in August this year, taking effect. If you don't know about them, here's a ready reckoner for you to get up to speed. 1. If you have opened a PPF account in your child's name i.e. a minor (who's under 18 years of age), their account would earn interest equivalent to a POSA (<keyword id="20076819" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="post-office-savings-account" source="keywords">Post Office Savings Account</keyword>), which currently stands at 4% p.a. Once your child turns 18 and attains majority, the standard PPF <keyword id="20071327" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="interest-rate" source="keywords">interest rate</keyword>, which is presently at 7.1%, will kick in. Remember that in a post office savings account, no interest is credited for a particular month, if the balance in this account falls below Rs 500, between the tenth and last day of the month. The maturity period for all such accounts will be calculated from the day the child turns 18 i.e. attains majority. Normally, the general maturity period of a PPF account is 15 years, with the possibility of extending it multiple times, but only in blocks of 5 years. 2. Have multiple PPF accounts? Well, you will not be earning any interest on any of your other PPF accounts, except for your primary one. As it is, PPF rules mandate that an individual can only have 1 PPF account. Inadvertently, many people end up opening 2 PPF accounts, sometimes with different banks, or one with a bank and post office each. Also, note that if you have opened a second PPF account on or after December 12, 2019, you are not eligible for merger of both your PPF accounts. In this case, your second account would be closed, without bearing you any interest. But if you have opened a second PPF account before this date, you can request for merger. However, in case you have not requested for such a merger, only your primary PPF account will continue earning interest at the rate of 7.1% p.a. While you will be able to transfer and send funds across from your second account, interest will only accrue on your primary PPF account, so better regularize your PPF account in the next 4 days with the post office or agency bank, lest you lose out on interest income. In case the balance in your primary PPF account is below the maximum annual investment limit of Rs 1,50,000, any balances you have in your second account will be added to the same, in order to calculate interest. And thereafter, any remaining balances in your second PPF account will be rendered ineligible for further interest. Lets understand this with an example. Suppose you hold 2 PPF accounts-A and B. The balance in account A is Rs 1,00,000, and that of B is Rs 70,000. In this case, you will only earn interest on Rs 50,000 from account B, while the remaining Rs 20,000 will not be considered while calculating interest. If the primary account stays below the applicable investment limit each year, the balance in the second account will be added to it. The primary account will continue to earn the prevailing scheme rate of interest after the merger. The second account's i.e. B excess balance will be returned without interest. 3. If you are an NRI who currently holds an active PPF account, where your residency status in Form H, which is needed to extend the tenure of your PPF account by 5 years was not asked for, your account will continue to earn interest at the same rate as a POSA (4%). Starting October 1st, such accounts will accrue no interest at all. Notably, while NRIs cannot open new PPF accounts, they can continue investing in their existing PPF account, which they had opened whilst they were still Indian resident. But once their account matures i.e. 15 years are over, they will not be able to extend their account's tenure.

In a scenario where Trump pushes dramatic immigration curbs and protectionist trade policies amid minimal fiscal easing, the economy would sink into recession.Peak-to-trough profit drawdowns of 20% are typical in an average recession. Under this scenario, EPS would drop to $195-$220 next year.To be sure, BofA also sees chances of blowout growth, if the president-elect de-emphasizes trade and immigration restrictions in favor of tax cuts and deregulation. In this case, GDP growth could even exceed 3% in 2025.Second, if Trump's trade plans are implemented, retaliatory tariffs could trigger a 10% hit to EPS.During his campaign, the president-elect pledged to implement a 10% duty on all foreign imports into the US. That wouldn't apply to Chinese products, which would face a 60% rate instead.If Trump stays true to his word, BofA expects US foreign sales to take on a 3% to 4% hit as the rest of the world establishes its own retaliatory tariffs.In the mounting trade war, industrials and semiconductor stocks would be most at risk, the bank said.Third, a dramatic upswing in bond yields could slash EPS by another 10%.BofA's worst-case scenario would be if the 10-year Treasury yield surges to 7%, a situation that could be prompted if Trump's tariff and immigration reductions spark an inflation shock.If this were to happen, the yield jump implies that the Purchasing Managers Index would hit 43 by 2024's year-end.This measure monitors the health of US manufacturing and indicates a contraction whenever its reading stands below 50. As of October, PMI registered a 46.5 level.While a contracting manufacturing base would cut into EPS, higher bond yields could also weigh on equity exposure. BofA noted that stocks could face increased pressure once the 10-year rate rises above 5%.The yield has been climbing higher amid Trump's election, as uncertainty has grown over whether the Federal Reserve can cut rates amid the president-elect's policies. The 10-year rate is currently trading above 4.5%.

If the same happens this time, that would push the benchmark index up to around 6015, reflecting a forward price-to-earnings multiple of 22x."Along with the resolution of election uncertainty, resilient recent economic growth data and continued Fed rate cuts support the healthy near-term outlook for US stocks," analysts wrote.However, the bank warned that a steep increase in Treasury yields could muddy any post-election rally.That could happen, as the 10-year rate has already climbed to more than 4.4% as anticipation of a Trump win mounted through October. Some consider this signal that bond traders are worried over the US fiscal trajectory under Trump, given that he has offered little policy solutions to the country's growing debt pile.On the other hand, Goldman notes that equities have dismissed the rise in yields as they have also climbed on signs of a stronger economy.Second, the stock market should move higher as investors reallocate into equities.According to Goldman, investors decreased equity exposure of the election, with hedge funds reducing both net and gross leverage across recent weeks.
